James 2:14-26 ”What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one Henry Nelson of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”

and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”

T

his week we are studying some of my favorite verses of the bible: James 2:214-26. Please enjoy these verses as we read this week. Perhaps you too will come to love this part of the bible like i do. alexander Graham Bell was an amazingly talented person. He invented the multiple telegraph, the audiometer which is used to test your hearing, the tricycle landing gear you find on planes, and a host of other less well-known machines. in addition to this he was cofounder of the prestigious magazine science, served as President of the National Geographic society, and spent his life working with deaf people. But most famous of all his creations was the telephone. it also made his family and his descendents enormously wealthy. But he almost lost it all. You see Bell never seemed to get around to submitting a patent application. finally, his father-in-law, who had financed a

lot of the research, got so impatient that he filed the patent on Bell’s behalf on the 14th of february 1876, Bell’s 29th birthday. and it was a good thing he did, because just a few hours later, another scientist by the name of Elisha Gray went to the patent office to get a patent on a machine he’d been working on for many years you guessed it, the telephone. this story reminds us that sometimes it is not enough simply to have great ideas. You need to act on them. Bell and his father-in-law are a good example of the relationship between faith and works. Bell had faith in his telephone, but did nothing about it. His father-in-law had faith and works to go with it. Background: James here in this passage expands on what it truly means to be hearers and doers of the word, what it means for us to “be real” about our lives. James now switches his focus from playing favorites and reiterating the law of neighbor love to how “faith” and “works” relate to all he has said up to this point. James shows us that faith and works are ultimately two sides of the same coin. three times in this passage (17, 20, 26) he repeats his thesis “faith without works is dead” in this James is stating clearly that “empty faith” is not true faith, not saving faith, it is nothing more that mouthing words. James sets out to convey to us

that our faith in God and trust in Jesus must work in tandem with our actions, or our faith isn’t really faith at all. Proposition: James sets out to covey to us that our faith in God and our trust in Jesus must work in tandem with our actions, or our faith isn’t really faith at all. Here again we see James not beating around the bush but getting straight to the issue at hand, the first thing we see him telling us is that workless faith. faith without works is no faith at all (14-17) James opens this passage with two rhetorical questions followed by a third first “what use is it brethren if a man has faith but has no works”? second “can that faith save him” third “what use is that type of faith”? all three of these project a negative response. the answer to all three is “NO” it is no good if a person merely mouths the words, but has no actions to back them up. it amounts to nothing more than meaningless jabber. simply saying that you are a great racecar driver, basketball player, Christian, whatever it is you may be does not mean anything unless you can demonstrate your skills in a way that would convince any who saw them . if you would like the entire message please request it at: revelations_75044@msn.com

continued from front page.....Mistrial them in a grand jury trial and arrest warrants were issued wednesday. Jurors say they are deadlocked in their deliberations of Dallas County Constable Derick Evans, who is accused of engaging in organized crime by holding a raffle to benefit his re-election campaign. the jury sent state District Judge tracy Holmes a note saying they were divided 8-4, though it did not say whether the majority supported an acquittal or conviction. Judge Holmes and the attorneys sent the note back instructing the jurors to keep deliberating. rules state that a judge won’t declare a mistrial over a hung jury until jurors have deliberated for the same amount of time they heard testimony. after hearing testimonies for the past four days last week, the Jurors began deliberating again on tuesday evening. Derick Evans, who was accused of one count of engaging in organized crime by holding a raffle to benefit his re-election campaign, also faces four charges of illegally accepting contributions greater than $100. District attorney Craig watkins appointed special prosecutor ted lyon to look into corruption in both the constables’ offices; Evans and Cortes of what an assistant called “an outrageous scheme,” but especially the allegations the men held raffles to raise money for their political campaigns. texas law does not allow raffles to be used for the purpose of raising funds politically. Craig watkins did not investigate because he had a conflict of interest. some current and former employees of Constable Evans, Precinct 1, testified that they risked losing their positions or being refused permission to work off-duty jobs if they did not sell enough tickets to satisfy Evans or refused to sell the tickets. Deputies were supposedly given $250 worth of the $5 tickets, but witnesses for

for Constable Derick Evans

the defense have testified that selling them was strictly voluntary. Many of Evans’ deputies were in court with him for support like John Beckwith who said, “Constable Evans has shown himself friendly to our community, and it showed in the support he received. we will continue to support him through this political witch hunt.” Guess we just have to stay tuned to see what the Jurors will say during the new trial in 2012.

n a newly released book, veteran african-american engineer and business executive James w. Breedlove, says that racism is weakening the U.s.’ position in the world, and that a ‘Black-white’ dialogue is needed immediately to “stop its self-destructive slide into third world status. Breedlove, a retired engineer and former regional administrator for the U.s. JAMES BREEDLOVE small Business administration, says his new book, “let’s Call them Nigger and Other Controversial Commentary on Black america, (taylor Books,) is going to ruffle some feathers, but he says it’s long overdue. Breedlove will be autographing books from Noon to 4:00 p.m. on saturday, December 10th and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on sunday, December 11th at the 2011

Kwanzaafest at the automotive Building at fair Park. “Do not let the title fool you into thinking this is a pity-party for Black americans, says Breedlove who is a small business consultant and award-winning columnist. “it is a polemic on how racism is undermining america’s position as a global dominator. the book asserts that racism is at the core of the internal division that keeps america from maintaining its position of global dominance. in the book, he says that he knows that the word “nigger is a “lightening rod that is racism’s dreaded calling card is lurking in the background. Breedlove writes that “that an open dialogue must take place between Black america and white america if america is to stop its self-destructive slide into third world status. Breedlove insists that Black and white americans have to sit down to talk to stem the pervasive “race-based viruses that are eroding the foundation of one of the basic premises of the nation that “all men are created equal. Breedlove writes, “it is absolute racism when a majority of the congress, who have been mandated by the constitution with the fiduciary responsibility to legislate and spend wisely for the benefit of all the people decide they will let the country go bankrupt rather than permit a black president to participate in creating viable solutions for the declining economy, widespread joblessness, ballooning debt, escalating health costs, and unaffordable highly questionable wars that beset the nation. to book Breedlove for interviews, contact Neil foote, foote Communications, llC, 214.448.3765 or via email at neil@neilfoote.com to purchase his book, go to http://www.taylorgroupbooks.com/

was driving along in my car today, and the radio station played Gene Turner MlK’s “i have a Dream speech”. i almost cried as i did while looking at the march on washington the day that he made it at the Capitol Monument. King was a great man, and God truly dealt with him while he was on this earth. King was really talking about more than just freedom in his speech. if you recall he talked about Blacks not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Not all Blacks, but too many of us have let the work and suffering of Dr. King blow away with the wind. Black character meant something once upon a time, but those times are gone and done away with in this day and time. in those days even drunks had respect for God’s church and God’s people. i remember when i was just a lad in Honey Grove, texas when a drunk and his buddy would approach a church, one would say to the other “man let’s straighten up because we are going by the CHUrCH HOUsE”, or man stop cursing don’t you see those woman, or don’t you see those church people, or don’t you see those grown people, or don’t you see that preacher. that’s the way it was we had respect for one another, and especially for older people. to show you how much respect we have for our own churches, we not only disrespect them, but we will break into them and steal microphones and what ever else that is not nailed down. we don’t want to work for a living any more, we want to take short cuts to life by stealing, robbing, selling drugs that poisons the mind of our neighbors causing lives to be cut short, where Black potentials never reach the point of God’s original plan for each of us. i am talking about the character Dr. King was speaking of at washington. Dr. King never would have dreamed that one-day He would see our young Black boys and men walking around with the crotch of their pants hanging between their knees and their ankles. it is pitiful how we allow our kids to dress in the present of society. these kids live with their par-

ents somewhere. why a parent would tolerate these issues is beyond me. “so you look, so you think.” Our dropout rate has doubled since the hip-hop claimed age developed. we don’t want to go to school; we don’t want to learn nothing about maturing to God’s promise to us. we don’t want to do anything that is worthwhile, we don’t want to open businesses because that will take away too much of our boogie time. for the life of me i do not understand it. i’ve been Black for over 70 plus years and i find myself not being able to understand another Black in this generation. that’s very funny, one Black can’t understand another Black. God made the Neutron star before creation, and Neutron stars do not blow-up and destroy themselves, they destroy themselves by emploding, which means that they destroy themselves from within, the emplode instead of exploding. that’s what we do, we emplode, we destroy ourselves and our character from within. we as Black people do not think in terms of owning grocery stores, neighborhood stores, small and large shopping centers, hotels, clothing stores, etc. we never get to that point because we are too busy emploding before we can get to this point. Other cultures do it, and most of them just got to this country and come right into our neighborhood and buy convience stores that we could have gotten, but you know what we say? they don’t want Black people owning nothing. as Booker t. washington would put this if he were still alive, he would say that’s a cop out. any five (5) Blacks could come together and put up anything they want. it does not look as though this Black nation will ever get it together. i hope we do, i hope i’ll be able to look down from heaven one day, a 100 years from now and say, we finally got it together.” remember Black people, it all starts with what MlK included in his speech, the Content of Character.” without character we will become a limb lying in the middle of a log wagon trail. we will get run over by much larger logs that was once a limb. Now, they are on their way to a much higher call. let us not forget to read our Bibles. May God bless you real good, and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

Dear Caught,

if we truly believe, our life will produce fruit and we will do good works; "faith, if not accompanied by action, is dead" (James 2:17). But our good works will never save us - salvation is a gift. if we truly believe, we will desire to obediently follow; "we know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands" (1 John 2:3). But our obedience will never save us - salvation is a gift. if we have never settled the issue of salvation, then today is the day to "trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). we must come before God with empty hands, acknowledge our sin and need for a savior, and receive the gift of grace offered through Jesus. as we then continue our walk with Christ we learn to love Him with all our heart and strive to present our very best, bringing Him glory and honor in all we do. But while we walk, love, and strive, we must remember that our "best" is not what earns His favor. Our "successes" will not make us more worthy, and our "failures" will not cause us to lose His love. His gift is everything! let's give Him everything in return as we continue to live each moment of this wondrous journey Eld Lloyd T. Morgan by trusting in His grace. “and Jesus said unto them ... , "if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to younder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you." romans 1:17

he church school lesson for sunday was “a Blessing for all N a t i o n s ” Gen.12:1-9.this lesson was so uplifting as we saw God “Choose” a man to reveal Himself to from among a people who worshipped many god’s. Jesus would later confirm this as a New testament fact when he said in John 6:44 “No man can come to me, except the father which hath sent me draw him:” the choice of who God use is always His. faith always demands obedience to the word of God. He promised abram that he would make him the father of a great nation although he was 75 years old and his wife was barren. to the human mind this was an impossible promise and a challenge to leave everyone that was your support group to follow the leading of a God that would not tell you where you were going. But when he

got to Canaan God told him that this was the land he was going to give to his off springs even though at the time Canaanites were living there. the morning message was delivered by our Pastor Eld.l.t. Morgan who returned from his sabbatical after a month of rest. His subject was “will you be the “One” that give glory to God for his blessings” luke 17:12-19. we are quick to pray and slow to praise, we always want the blessings of the lord but we give very little service to him and to his kingdom. Jesus healed 10 lepers and 9 of them thought there were other things they could do now that they are healed, it didn’t resonate with them that thanks was owned to the one that healed them. How do you show your gratitude to the lord for all he does for you? Be blessed Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the lOrD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

ave you noticed that when you commune with God in your prayer closet, you began to see more into the spiritual realm? Prayer causes your spiritual eyes to be opened so that you can see into the unseen. Keenness in the spirit realm come as you discipline yourself in prayer, praise, fasting and renewing your mind by God’s word. ask God to reveal spiritual reality to you like Elisha did when he asked God to open servant’s eyes and allow him to see the chariots of protection. recorded in 2 Kings 6:16-17, so he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them”. then Elisha prayed and said, “O lord, i pray open his eyes that he may see”. and the lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. he Cowboys lost to the Cardinal’s could have really been disastrous, yet it could set them up for an even greater accomplishment. Leon Simon a win over the division rival New York Giants, could end the Giants season which would be a great accomplishment for the Boyz. and a devastating blow to the Giants, getting knocked out by Cowboys. some say the lost to the Cardinals was a brain dead decision by Jason Garrett. Being a long time Nfl fan i would agree that it didn’t make his alma Mater ( Princeton ) look good, but i can assure you that i’ve seen worst. this league as well as NBa, MlB make tons of brain

page 8

dead decisions. Up until recently most professional league has been recycling coaches for years. a coach get fired for ineptness. look at wade phillips they thought he had lost control of the Cowboys he got hired less than 2 month after the Cowboys sent him packing. so don’t think dumb decision are restricted to Dallas. New England go for it 4th and short on their own 29 yd line, that should qualify as born head. and that’s New England a team that personifies intelligence. these guy’s get cut slack all the time. teams like san Diego, the Jet’s have had teams that was so talented and let the talent leave one by one. You think those are smart moves. san Diego had the best receiving corp. Drew Breeze , and a stable of Pro-bowl running backs and they left one by one. the Bengals, and lions got high round draft picks back to back years forever and the Bengal played in one super-Bowl Detroit doesn’t have a clue what goes on at super-bowls never even been in the vicinity of one. there are 4 games remaining and the seasons worst decision has yet to be made. i have faith in the recycle coaches in the Nfl to

www.dfwelitenews.com

make more Dumb decisions. Jason Garrett, basically said he was afraid to get a negative play to get pushed farther back. On that same drive they had a well block play to DeMarco Murray that slipped done lost 4 yds. 2 illegal motion penalties 10 negative yards. Jason knew 49yds wouldn’t be a chip shot, but it was make able. He made it he just couldn’t duplicate it. Mind you that’s exactly what he get paid to do. the receivers are paid to catch all passes , Offensive lineman are expected to block every play. is it too much to expect a kicker to replicate a kick he just made. this is the Nfl this isn’t DisD. i’ve heard the blame go as high as Jerry Jones, when it should all go to the kicker. these guys only kick allday, no meetings, just kick. the degree of difficulty is about the same as a free throw in basketball. is it unreal to think a guy can make two free throws back to back , especially when that’s all he’s required to do all day is KiCK.!!!

Schedule Set For Dallas Mavericks By: Bettye “Katt” Williams Elite News Staff Writer

I

reported last week that the Dallas Mavericks will play on Christmas and now the Mavs have more great news this week. the Dallas Mavericks released their full 66-game schedule for the 2011-2012 NBa season on tuesday. free agency officially begins friday, the same day training camp opens. the league’s 66th season kicks off with five games on Christmas, including an NBa finals rematch of the Mavericks versus the Heat at home at 1:30 p.m. and we know all the Mavs fans will be either watching that game on tV or there in person just like the fans did when we watched last season’s defeat against the Heat in six games in finals. the Mavs will renew their division rivalry with the san antonio spurs on Jan. 29 at the aaC. lakers, Kobe Bryant will play here in Dallas on feb. 22. Every team to play on three consecutive nights at least once. Dallas will play seven games in nine nights in March. teams will play 48 conference games and 18 non-conference games before the regular season ends on april 26. as far as the roster for the Dallas Mavericks, well there will be a change on Christmas day because the team players who are free agents like tyson Chandler, who has said on multiple occasions that he does not expect to be back in Dallas, and guard J.J. Barea, who said he wanted to be come back because he believes the fans wanted him back. the Mavs are also unlikely to bring back Caron Butler, who suffered a season-ending injury in January and may go to the Bulls and Clippers. rumors are spreading that Deshawn stevenson maybe possibly leaving as well. But myself and fans are not giving up on the Dallas Mavericks because they are the team to watch. On Christmas Day the Mavs will see their title banner raised to the rafters during the season opener on Christmas, even though Mark Cuban has not gotten their rings made yet because he has not had the 2010-11 championship rings designed because he wants to get input from Dirk Nowitzki, Jason terry and Jason Kidd as to how the rings should look and wants to give them on another game night. 2011-12 regular season individual game tickets go on sale this saturday, Dec. 10th at 10am. tickets will be available simultaneously at american airlines Center Box Office, online at mavs.com, via phone by calling 214.747.MaVs, and all ticketmaster outlets

85 year old neighborhood man dies in house fire Special to Elite News n elderly Dallas man was killed when a fire broke out in his red Bird home this morning. firefighters were called to the home on Billie Drive shortly before 2:30 a.m. and found fire and heavy smoke pouring out of the brick home. the medical examiner’s office says the victim tuesday was Marvin Dorsey. they found 85-year-old Marvin Dorsey passed out inside. He was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, fire officials said. the fire appeared to have been caused by an electrical

short in a fuse box in the victim’s bedroom closet, according to Dallas fire-rescue. Police said there were no working smoke detectors in the home. Channel 5 spoke to one of Dorsey’s seven children, who described him as a family man who was “greatly loved.” Dallas fire-rescue officials say an electrical short in the wiring caused the early-morning fire that was centered in a rear bedroom. Dorsey was unresponsive when located in the wood-framed home. authorities say Dorsey was transported to a hospital, where he died
