What Made These Wise Men So Wise? Matthew 2:1-2:12 “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Henry Nelson Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” ”When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:” “ ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’ ”Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a care-

ful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” ”After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.”

T

he day after Thanksgiving Day, is known as the busiest shopping day of the year. From all the reports I have seen, the malls were full of shoppers. You know what that means do not you? American men are once more under incredible stress. In a recent article, British psychologist David Lewis reports that shopping is hazardous to men’s health. He tested volunteers 22-79 years old by sending them out Christmas shopping. He recorded blood pressure rates that “you would expect to see in a fighter pilot going into combat.”

were called “Magi.” As such they were devoted to the study of the stars, but more than that, we do not know. Where were they from? Some have suggested Arabia Babylon Persia; we do not know. There is so much about these men that remain a mystery even to this day. All that we really know about these men is that they were called wise men. The question I would like to pose this morning is what makes these wise men so wise? And even more to the point, how can we be just as wise today? They Were Wise In Their Decision To Search For Jesus. They recognized God at work in the world surrounding them. The wise men, these men of science and the stars were brought to a decision to seek out and find “the King of the Jews.” They did not have all the facts when they started, but they had enough to know they needed to search. Not every man of science has been led to acknowledge God; many in pride have turned away from the Lord, but these men were brought to a conviction not only of God’s existence but of God’s active dealing in the affairs of men. If you want the entire message please request it at: revelations_75044 msn.com

According to this same test, only one in four women showed any significant signs of stress from shopping just one of many gender differences in America today. The question has been posed: “What would have happened if there had been Three Wise Women instead of Three Wise Men?” The answer: They would have asked directions immediately upon commencing their trip, which would have allowed them to arrive on time; they would have helped deliver the baby, cleaned the stable, made a casserole and brought cute little outfits that baby Jesus could have worn on his trip home. Amen! As it happened, they were wise men not wise women and while we think of these men as part of the Christmas story, they were not present on that first Christmas. They did not arrive on the scene till well over a year later. Starting this today and going through the month of December I would like for us to consider a group of people, who while we think of them as being part of the Christmas story, never made it as witnesses to the event. This morning we will be looking at a group of men we know as the wise men. How many were there? Most assume three gifts, but there may have been more. We do not know. Who were they? They

A Look Back at 2011 Events, Deaths, and News By: Bettye “Katt” Williams ELITE NEWS STAFF WRITER

ell, in a couple of days, the world will leave the past year behind and celebrate another new year. As we reflect on the beginning of 2012, we can’t help but remember things that happened that will be a part of your memory and our history. Whether it was a birth of a child, the death of a loved one(gone but definitely not forgotten), news that got your attention, a kiss or gift from a loved one, or an event that happened in 2011 that you will always remember or cherish. I would like to take you back to a few things that I remember from 2011, as we look back in review of 2011. An earthquake hit Japan on March 11, 2011, triggering a massive 23-foot tsunami. The 9.0 magnitude offshore quake, the largest in Japan’s history, was followed by hundreds of aftershocks. Japanese officials say more than 3,300 people have died in the disaster. The Royal Wedding of British: Royalty began when Prince William and his blushing bride Kate swapped vows April 29, 2011, Prince William of England married Catherine Middleton — and the world was invited to the wedding. Casey Anthony Trial: A jury acquitted Casey Anthony of charges that she killed her 2-year-old daughter Caylee. Occupy Wall Street Movement: took root in Zucotti Park before spreading across the country and around the globe — and then disappearing as cities cracked down on the protesters. Occupy Wall Street started as a single protest in downtown Manhattan and it exploded into a global movement. Penn State Scandal: Assistant coach testifies to what he saw involving Sandusky and a young boy. Gay Marriages: Daily news readers said “I do” to the decision, rating gay marriage as the second biggest local news event of the year.

S

Conrad Murray Trial: Two years after Michael Jackson died, jurors convicted his personal physician of involuntary manslaughter. Weeks later, a judge sentenced Murray to four years in prison. Iraq War ends after eight years, and thousands of U.S. casualties, the White House ordered virtually all troops out of Iraq. John Edwards, the disgraced former Democratic presidential candidate, was indicted this summer and charged with six felonies in connection with an alleged coverup of his extra-marital affair during the 2008 election campaign. In October, a federal judge denied Edwards’ motions to dismiss the charges, saying the arguments by Edwards’ legal team were not sufficient. Oprah Winfrey’s decision to pull the plug on “The Oprah Winfrey Show“ was a long time coming. Though the final episode made for a sad day for her gazillions of die-hard fans, it was hardly a shock. She’d been threatening to end the long-running No. 1 talk show for years, ever since she’d first mentioned plans to retire way back in 1997. Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s betrayal was far more traditional. In his first year back as a civilian, he returned to the scandal sheets when his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver, filed for divorce after learning that he had fathered a child with their housekeeper while he was in office. Herman Cain, a newcomer to the political world, didn’t even have a chance to become an elected official before years-old sexual harassment charges surfaced about the crowd of accusers. The 2011 NBA lockout was the fourth lockout of the (NBA). The owners began the work stoppage at 12:01 am on July 1, 2011. During the lockout, teams could not trade, sign or contact players, and players could not access NBA team facilities, trainers or staffs. On November 26, the players and owners reached a tentative deal, including a 66-game regular season, with games commencing on December 25. The lockout offi-

cially ended on December 8 when the (NBPA) and the team owners approved the new collective bargaining agreement, allowing training camps, trades and free agency to begin the next day. William Blair Jr. Park was official during a dedication ceremony on September 17, 2011. The park was formally named “Rochester Park” until a group of visionary’s decided that there should be a park to honor the legacy of William “Bill” Blair, Sr., Publisher of the Elite News. The Kimball High School boys basketball team and Coach Royce Snoop Johnson on Thursday, March 10, 2011, led the Kimball Knights to a State 4A Championship and South Dallas-based Elite News coordinated a parade and rally for the team. The Dallas Mavericks won 1st NBA Championship in Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, 105 to 95, giving them to the franchise’s first championship. The Texas Rangers played in the 2011 World Series where the best of seven playoffs was played against the St. Louis Cardinals defeating the Rangers in seven games to win their 11th World Series championship.

Safety Tips: New Year’s Eve If you are hosting a New Year’s Eve party Following a few simple rules could prevent a tragedy: Plan ahead by naming a “designated driver.” Make this your responsibility as the host. Contact a local cab company to provide rides for your guests.Serve non-alcoholic beverages as an option to your guests. Stop serving alcohol to your guests several hours before the party ends.Provide your guests with a place to stay overnight in your home.

If you are attending New Year’s Eve parties If you drink, don’t drive plan ahead and always designate a sober driver before the party or celebration begins. If you are impaired, call a taxi, use mass transit, or get a sober friend or family member to come pick you up.Or, stay where you are until you are sober. Take the keys from someone if you think he/she is too impaired to drive. The tragedies and costs from drinking and driving impaired don’t just end with the potential death, disfigurement, disability, and injury caused by impaired drivers. Driving impaired or riding with someone who is impaired isn’t worth the risk. The consequences are serious and real. Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can be significant

t a recent community event, an elder taught me the history behind “watch night services.” So much of what we do culturally as African Americans has a poignant historical significance. We must share the history of our enslavement, struggles, culture and traditions with our children, grandchildren and the larger community. Maybe there wouldn’t be so many “lost” young black people, if we inculcated African American history, cuture and traditions into their marrow. Despite centuries of revile and persecution, Jews have survived as a people, religion, culture, and nation, not just because they are God’s “chosen people,” but because every observation and celebration is a transmission of their history. I would daresay that African Americans know more about Jewish historiography and culture than about their people. Like you, in 2011, I resolve to follow the lead of that community elder by sharing the facts behind Watch Night and other black traditions. Reprinted below is an excerpt of an article originally written by Charyn D. Sutton for her Watch Night© presentations and published by The Positive Community in 2004. For more information, please contact Ms. Sutton at charynsutton@aol.com. “Watch Night Services,” the gathering of the faithful in church on New Year’s Eve was a fairly standard Christian religious service. There’s a history of Watch Night in the Methodist tradition. However, New Year’s Eve services are particularly important in African-American congregations. On December 31, 1862, also known as

“Freedom’s Eve,” Americans of African descent came together in churches, gathering places and private homes awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had become law. Then, at the stroke of midnight, it was January 1, 1863, and according to Lincoln’s promise, all slaves in the Confederate States were legally free. People remained in churches and other gathering places, eagerly awaiting word that Emancipation had been declared. When the actual news of freedom was received later that day, there were prayers, shouts and songs of joy as people fell to their knees and thanked God. But even before 1862 and the possibility of a Presidential Emancipation, African people had gathered on New Year’s Eve on plantations across the south. Many slave owners tallied up their business accounts on the first day of each new year. Human property was sold along with land and furnishings to satisfy debts. Families and friends were separated. Often they never saw each other again in this earthly world. Thus coming together on December 31 might be the last time for enslaved and free Africans to be together with loved ones. So, Black folks in North America have gathered annually on New Year’s Eve since the earliest days, praising God for bringing us safely through another year and praying for the future. Certainly, those traditional gatherings were made more poignant by the events of 1863 which brought freedom to the slaves and the Year of Jubilee. Many generations have passed since and most of us were never taught the African American history of Watch Night. Yet our traditions and our faith still bring us together at the end of every year to celebrate once again “how we got over.” — Charyn D. Sutton © 2004.

Is it Time for All Christians to Standup and be Counted? Part I

Y

es, it is time for all Christians to stand Gene Turner up for the Laws of God. God created Adam & Eve, not Adam and Steve. Listen to what God says: “ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him: Male and Female created he them (Gen. 1:27). And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it (Gen. 1:28). The first dispensation innocence was governed by the Edenic Covenant. Under this Covenant, Adam had six obligations (1) to replenish the earth with children; (2) to use nature for his physical needs including food and shelter; (3) to have dominion over animal life; (4) to eat fruit and vegetables; (5) to labor for his sustenance; (6) to obey God. Let us deal with the first obligation. First of all God told him to replenish the earth. Now, how is it possible for two men to replenish the Earth with children? The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do are abomination unto the Lord thy God. (Deut. 22:5) That word abomination mean – detestable by God. In the Greek language, which comprises the New Testament, abomination could mean, looking at a dead dog that’s rotting with maggots in him. Listen to God’s word again in Romans: “ Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lust of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the creator. For this cause, God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature ( Romans 1:26). After reading these scriptures one should understand that God made the world to go in a certain cycle. He made woman for man, if you don’t believe that turn to (Genesis 2:18) And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I (God) will make him a

help meet for him. Helpmeet is not a degrading position for the woman. The verb form basically means to aid or supply that which the individual cannot provide for himself. The New Testament translation boethos is used in the sense of physician. It conveys the idea of aiding someone in need, such as the oppressed. A Godly woman meets this need of man. Meet comes from the Hebrew word meaning opposite. God made this world to go in a certain direction, which means creative order, and anything that goes opposite of this creative order is outside of God, because God created everything within Himself. The Bible says that it is better to obey God than Man. It is against God’s’’ law, and His will for two ol rusty foot men to lay along side one another and say ““Baby I sho do love you” from a man and a woman relationship, or two women. It’s a slap in God’s face, because what they are saying is that God made a mistake when He made me, I should have been a man (woman) or, I should have been a woman (man). We as Christian no matter what Denomination, all should come together and storm Washington with a lobby that has never been witnessed before, and stand up for God. We are too quiet on certain issues. We pay taxes, we vote, we have businesses, so we have a right to be heard, and we as Christians must stand up and be counted to let the world know that these Gay marriages are morally wrong and stands against everything the Fathers endorsed for the basics of this Country. I read the article that James Ragland wrote in the Dallas Morning News, “ Marriages for Gays? I say yes.” He states that he had been trying to dodge that question. Being from East Texas and Black I was floored, because I know those people carried their children to church. Going to church was not an option. I still can’t believe he is in agreeance with Gay marriages. He mentions tradition, a man and a woman marrying is no tradition, it is God’s will, and anybody who do not think that is God’s will has the mentality of an atheist. Gay marriages is not what God ordained, God ordained man and woman not the other way around. May God bless you real good, and may He ever keep you in his loving care. .

Advice Column: Ask Dr. Hollie Dear Dr. Hollie

henever, I am challenged with what seems an insurmountable problem, I can easily become stressed – trying to resolve the issue myself; instead of going to God in prayer, and asking for His help Geraldine and guidance. Davidson-Hooker I think – as humans our initial response to any difficult situation is to attempt to ‘work things out by ourselves’ – and yet we can save ourselves so much anguish by ‘giving it to God’ and asking Him what we need to do. When things go awry, in my life, my tendency is to isolate myself or to busy myself doing anything and everything – rather than confront the very issue that is causing me to waste my time and energy, “hiding in busy-ness”. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 encourages us to: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (NKJV) That’s pretty hard to do – because when troubling times have come - the first thing I have tended to do through life, has been to ‘panic’not even stopping to think to thank God for an opportunity to grow in my faith – that is, before I learned how my God, who loves me, strengthens me, guides me, helps me – when I have given my concerns to Him – but of course I do have to ask for His help and how I should deal with the situation. Invariably, a solution happens along that I would not or had not thought of – I’d been so wrapped up in worry! God pursues us each and every day – He wants what is best for us, and when times get tough we need Him more than ever – let’s not hide ourselves in busyness, let us make our first step to ask Him what we need to do, and then wait for His solution. Prayer: Abba, when we are trying to resolve troubling issues in our lives, please remind us that You are ready and willing to help – but we have to ask You to! Keep us from draining our energy resources, by keeping busy and keeping you at bay. Amen

Notes From Union Hope

W

e trust that you a n d yours had a blessed Christmas and you worshipped the Christ child on the day designated as His birthday. We Eld Lloyd T. Morgan started our services earlier than usual to allow our children to present their Christmas presentation. The church school lesson was “According to the promise” Lk.1-46-55. Again we see God keeping a promise that he made in Is.7:14 saying that “a virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel.” The lesson itself focused on Mary’s song of praise to God for being chosen to be the vessel that God would use to bring his son into the world. From this lesson we was once again assured that our God is a keeper of promises even when the one he made the promise to is dead. Our Morning message was delivered by our Pastor Eld.Lloyd Morgan from the sub-

ject “How we know that Jesus was the Christ.” For this the pastor formed a group of witnesses who presented the Prophesies concerning the coming of Christ and after hearing the doubter asking for proof of the fulfillment of the prophesy the witness for Jesus read from scripture the fulfillment of the prophesy. After having gone through many passages of scripture the congregation who was the designated Jury was asked to render a verdict on whether or not the scripture proves that He was indeed the Christ, the foreman then arose and declared that by a preponderance of the evidence Christ was in truth the Son of God. On Saturday December 31, beginning at 10:00pm we will observe our “Watch meeting”, we invite all that have a desire to worship with us as we see the old year out and the New Year in. in the event we don’t see you we wish you and you’re a Happy and blessed New Year. he NFL season is just about to come to a conclusion, the tough is getting tougher, the pretenders are still pretending. I guess somewhere Leon Simon down the line we made this a season for make believe. Instead of what it’s about. Speaking of pretenders, I’d like to apologize to Jerry Jones. In all his wheeling and dealing, somebody sold him a plow mule for a race horse. I’d like to apologize to the Cowboy players, we or I, expected you to do something you’re not capable of doing “WIN”. I know there’s no special way to win. I had the fortune of traveling with the last 3 Cowboy teams to win Super Bowls. The Only thing this team has that those teams had

page 8

in common, the star on the helmet, nothing else. And if I were Jerry Jones, until they show some improvement I’d change the helmet to white, and put a clown on the helmet. In respect to first off Tom Landry, and the rest of the Cowboys that earned the name “Americas Team”. Since 1966, every team that had a string of championships or Super-Bowls with the exception of New England had to beat the Cowboys to get there. All the Lombardy teams, the Jim Brown Cleveland Browns, The Steelers and 49ers. The league is setting records on these guys, scoring records, and come from behind records. But back to my apology, they don’t have a thing at valley ranch. They don’t have one player on their defensive team that’s playing Pro- bowl caliber of football. They don’t have one on the offense that should be allowed to buy a ticket to the Pro-bowl. Romo’s playing pretty good but there are 4 quarterbacks better right now than he is. Some poor souls might even think DeMarcus Ware. Ware doesn’t have enough Bull Dog in him, and the Cowboys don’t have enough Bull Dogs on their team.

www.dfwelitenews.com

You couldn’t keep Charles Haley, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, and I could name 20 more on the bench as easily as it is to keep DeMarcus Ware on the bench when a game is about to be decided. Win or lose a true Bull Dog wants to be in the fight. I think Jay Ratliff can play has played Pro-Bowl Caliber tackle, he’s getting worn down because alike of body weight. Jason Whitten same thing about to wear him down. The rest of them shouldn’t be in the league, if so they should be chasing Kick offs. I thought as most people thought they might have a coaching problem. But I’m not about to disgrace the coaching profession by asking them to win with Terrance Newman, Mike Jenkins type players. And if you have a team with Brady James as a Captain, you have big time problems. Aside from being short on talent it’s even shorter on intelligence these guy’s make childish mistakes. I’m not talking about a backup safety, I’m talking about frontline guys De Marcus Ware get a couple offside’s every game, and he’s a captain. Take this plow Mule out of the Kentucky, then your expectations change.

Dallas Mavs Lose First Game Back To Miami Heat By: Bettye “Katt” Williams ELITE NEWS STAFF WRITER

hristmas Day started off with Christmas breakfast and returning all the text, calls, and emails to wish me a merry Christmas, than a couple of visits to friends to wish them a Merry Christmas then goes to the excitement for the day. The NBA Finals rematch with Miami at Dallas. It’s time for Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks to defend their title on the court. Dallas was in a bind and didn’t seem like they were wanting to win until newcomer Lamar Odom was ejected for something he said while arguing a charging call late in the third quarter. Then Jason Terry got hyped and that got the Mavs within 17 midway through the fourth. Dallas coach Rick Carlisle recognized how unlikely it was that they would come all the way back, so he kept Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion on the bench the entire final period. Terry ended up leading Dallas with 23 points. Nowitzki scored 21 in three quarters. Marion scored 12, and Delonte West added 10 in his Dallas debut. Lamar Odom, the NBA’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year, got a standing ovation, and got fans roaring again when he made a 3-pointer that tied the game at 11. He missed his next five shots before getting tossed, but still left to loud cheers. He had four points and four rebounds in 13 minutes. LeBron James had 37 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as the Miami Heat got a measure of payback for the NBA Finals by opening this season with a 105-94 victory on Christmas Day against the Dallas Mavericks. Miami scored at least 30 points in each of the first three quarters. James had the top highlight, tipping an alley-oop pass to Dwyane

Wade so he could have the dunk. The Mavs were down by 15 after one quarter, 21 at halftime, and 35 a few minutes into the second half. Dwyane Wade had 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Heat cemented their status as the preseason favorite to win it all. Miami was seeking revenge from an NBA finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks. “We didn’t come together to make the playoffs or come together to win a playoff series, we came together to win the NBA finals,” stated LeBron James this week. I still believe we won’t miss out on a winning season in the Dallas Mavericks, I have faith in them and I’m sure all of their fans will to. Go Mavs

Full Gospel Holy Temple’s Apostle Lobias Murray Dies At Age 84 Special to Elite News

A

postle Murray is the pastor and General Overseer of Full Gospel Holy Temple, and founder of Lobias Murray Christian Academy, a 12-grade fully accredited school, located at 330 Ann Arbor in Dallas, TX. He dies at age 84 on Dec 23rd As a pastor in the City of Dallas for the past 40 years, he has consistently dedicated himself as a Servant of God to the religious, educational, and humanitarian welfare of the Dallas community, and to all mankind. As a Man of God, he preaches an authentic, transforming, and deliverance gospel. Like a balm in Gilead, his message is the antidote for broken lives and wounded spirits. Endowed with a ministry that is evidenced by signs, miracles and wonders, souls are saved, delivered and set free by the power of God in each service. His ministry transcends ethnic barriers and reaches people from all walks of life. The hallmark of his ministry is the laying on of hands for the receiving of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. In the religious community, Rev. Murray founded Full Gospel Holy Temple Church in 1961. Under his astute leadership the church has expanded to a membership of 3000 locally, and an incorporated body of fellowship churches, numerous outreach ministries, a bi-monthly church magazine, numerous radio broadcast, and the L&S Christian Camp. In the educational community, Apostle Murray founded the Lobias Murray Christian Academy (LMCA) in 1979. LMCA, located at 330 Ann Arbor (in Dallas' Oak Cliff section), is a 12-grade private school accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and Texas Education Agency. Presently, it is distinguished

as the first accredited, K-12th grade African-American owned school in the city of Dallas and state of Texas. Located on the same premises with LMCA is the Shirley Murray Child Development Center. This licensed and state accredited facility for ages 18 months through kindergarten is named for its namesake and founder, Evangelist Shirley Murray, Apostle Murray's wife. As a humanitarian, Apostle Murray and First Lady Evangelist Shirley Murray started the Helping Hand Outreach Ministry, in December 1981. The organization gives food, clothes and toys to needy, indigent, and homeless families during the Christmas season and throughout the year. During the 1998 Christmas season, the Helping Hand aided over 2500 families in the Dallas - Ft. Worth metropolis with toys, clothes and food. Apostle Murray is the recipient of numerous awards, plaques and plaudits from community and social organization for his humanitarian and spiritual contributions. During the 1985 Summer Commencement of, now defunct, Bishop College, Dr. Wright Lassiter, former college president, conferred the coveted Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree upon Apostle Murray, esteeming him as a 'renaissance man' and as a 'principal architect in the religious and education communities in Dallas.' The church was established in June 1961 with only six members. A remnant of those six remain today as faithful charter members. Since the beginning, the handiwork of God has continually manifested itself upon the Full Gospel Holy Temple ministry. God's Shekinah glory is witnessed in each service, bringing forth testimonies of deliverance, miracles and transforming lives. Due to an increasing membership, Full Gospel Holy Temple has relocated three times in its 44-year history. In 1963, the church moved from Second Avenue to 1103 East Ninth Street to accommodate the young, growing congregation. At this location, the first

FGHT "Broadcast of Deliverance" was aired over radio station KHVN (formerly KNOK). The first radio announcer, as well as choir director was Dr. Shirley Murray, first lady of the church. Six years later, due to a flourishing membership, larger facilities were once again needed. Thus, in June 1969, the church relocated to 2152 Fordham Road. Within three years the sanctuary was filled to capacity. The term, "wall-to-wall people," was frequently used to describe the packed conditions in this edifice. Today with an active membership of over 4000, and steadily growing, God's Divine, infallible Word remains at the forefront of the FGHT ministry. With God's help and guidance, "We've Come This Far By Faith."All services will be held at Full Gospel Holy Temple World Headquarters. Left to cherish the memory of a great man of faith, vision, integrity and wisdom is: his widow, Dr. Shirley Murray, three daughters, Sharon (Eld. Alfred) Smith, Gwendol Renee Murray and Brenda Rice; one brother, Lovester (Margaret) Murray; one sister, Velma (J.C.) Reedy; 14, grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a loving nephew, Dr. Autry Terry; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Full Gospel Holy Temple, Inc. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Herman and Mrs. Willie Mae Trimble Murray, his only son, Elder Herman Lobias Murray, Sr. and a brother, Bishop Lorenza Murray. The wake for the Apostle Lobias Murray will be Thursday night at 7pm. The funeral services for The Chief Apostle

emarcus Larry West, son of state Sen. Royce West, dies in Dallas at

33 State Senator Royce West and family are mourning the loss of his middle son, Remarcus Larry West, age 33. The younger West died after a lengthy battle with a gastrointestinal illness. Remarcus Larry West was born in Houston, Texas on October 3, 1978 to State Senator Royce West, Sr. and Ruby West. He spent his childhood days growing up in Dallas, where he attended Good Street Baptist Church. It was during this time that he realized the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and accepted Christ as his Savior through baptism. Remarcus was educated in Dallas Independent School District, but later graduated from Duncanville High School in 1997. He continued his pursuit of knowledge at the University of North Texas and Prairie View A&M University. Remarcus was employed at Southwest Airlines as an Appearance Technician. He enjoyed his work and those that worked with him. He often had funny stories of his time spent at Southwest Airlines. Remarcus Larry West had a dream of studying photography in New York but could not overcome a gastrointestinal condition that prevented his progress. Remarcus West passed away on December 26, 2011 “He would always take one step forward with his education and then two steps back when he would get sick,” said his father, state Sen. Royce West

december 30, 2011

Remarcus was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lovell and Johnnie Mack, and paternal uncle, Larry West, whom he was named after. He leaves to mourn his passing – mother, Ruby West; father, Royce Barry West, Sr. (Carol); paternal grandfather, Willis West, Jr. (Eunice) of Washington, D.C., paternal grandmother, Gloria Ashford; brothers, Stephond West, Royce Barry West, II (Bree), Rolando West, Roddrick West, Brandon West; sister, Tara West-Franklin (Derrick); uncles, Willis Kevin West (Barbara), Arthur Lee Mack (Madelyn), and Cornell Mack; aunts Zina Ashford-Obasuyi (Fatai), Shirley James (Isaac), Patsy Mack, Johnnie Ann Mack, Jeanette Mack, Senola Kay Mack; family members, Demetrice Smith, Kendra West, Jodie West; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Remarcus touched the lives of many people with his smile and funny sense of humor. He passed away to rest in the arms of our God on December 26, 2011, surrounded by all those who loved him deeply. In honor of the memory of Remarcus West, the West family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the University of North Texas at Dallas for the Remarcus West Memorial Scholarship Fund. Contributions to the scholarship fund can be sent to The University of North Texas at Dallas, Attn. Office of University Advancement, 7300 University Hills Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75241-4600." Services for Remarcus Larry West, is scheduled for Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Street Baptist Church, 3110 Bonnie View Road, Dallas, Texas.
