it was during the early morning hours, that a storm tore through the Jordan Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1515 Dewberry Blvd. in lancaster, texas. to see the

photos of the Church after the destruction, one can’t help but be saddened and yet amazed at God’s work! we are saddened that Pastor sinclair royal and the Jordan Baptist Church have lost their place of worship, but amazed that despite all of the destruc-

tion and devastation, the bricks remained on the building, and the structure is basically still intact. the only sign of a storm is the huge hole in the roof, and all you can see is the beautiful blue sky beaming through the roof of the Church; which iron-

how to win when you fight giants ephesians 6:10-18 “Finally, be strong in the lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of god so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against henry nelson the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of god, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. in addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of god. and

pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” amen!

1st samuel 17:8-10 says, “No one is israel dared to accept the challenge.” the scripture says that saul and the rest of the israelites were gripped by fear. for 40 days this challenged was posed. Goliath was the ultimate bully. He was staring down at people half his size, challenging them to a fight. He saw Goliath shout out his challenge to israel. David’s heart stirred immediately.” amen! How could anyone have the gall to defy israel and defame the name of God? David volunteered to accept the giant’s bold invitation. He stood ready to defend the name of the lord. in today’s world being a parent sometimes leaves you feeling like your facing a giant. raising kids in today’s world is a giant undertaking. trying to protect them from the ungodly influences that invade their minds every day is a monumental task. Parenting can be a giant battle.

Parenthood is a huge giant sometimes! we all will face giants, “huge obstacles” or opportunities that we fear. we all feel like we are facing a giant with the rise in gas prices. Have you seen the email goingaround encouraging people to boycott Exxon gas stations? Exxon is the biggest oil company in the world. we are just a bunch of David’s attempting to defeat the mighty Goliath. would it not be wonderful if you could approach and face your giants with the confidence that David faced his giant? You could if you apply the following lessons learned to help you fight giants. what was Paul’s secret for overcoming the giants in his life. Philippians 4:1113says, “i have learned to be content in whatever situation i am in. i know how to live in poverty or prosperity. No matter what the situation, i have learned the secret of how to live when i am full or when i am hungry, when i have too much or when i have too little. i can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.

Directions: Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and heat the oven to 325°f. trim away any skin and external fat to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. set the ham fat side up and score the fat 1/4 inch deep with diagonal slices every 2 inches so that it forms a cross-hatched diamond pattern. let the ham in a sturdy roasting pan or a baking dish. it should fit fairly snugly with only a couple of inches of space on any side. add 1 cup of the pomegranate juice, plus enough water to reach a 1/4-inch depth. Bake, adding water as needed to maintain 1/4 inch of liquid in the pan, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the ham registers 105° to 110°f, 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 hours (it should take about 15 minutes per pound). while ham is baking, gently warm 1/4 cup of the cherry preserves in a small saucepan set over medium-low heat. stir in the mustard and brown sugar to combine.

Brush with the glaze:remove the ham from the oven and raise the temperature to 425°f. add more water to the pan so the liquid is about 1/2 inch deep. Using a large spoon or pastry brush, smear the glaze generously over the top of the ham. return the pan to the oven (even if it hasn’t reached 425°f yet) and bake until the glaze on the ham bubbles and begins to darken, 10 to 15 min; the ham should have an internal temperature of 120° to 125°f. remove the ham from the oven and transfer to a carving board or large platter. tent loosely with foil and let rest for 20 to 30 minutes while you make the pan sauce. During this period, the ham’s internal temperature should rise to 130° to 140°f. make the sauce:Pour the pan juices into a gravy separator or a 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup. let sit for 10 to 15 minutes to allow any fat to rise and then pour or spoon off the fat and discard (some hams don’t exude much fat). in a 2-qt. saucepan, combine the kirschwasser, dried cherries, and the remaining 1/4 cup pomegranate juice. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. add the pan juices and the remaining 1/4 cup cherry preserves. taste the sauce, and if the flavor isn’t as intense as you’d like, continue to boil to concentrate the flavors as desired. stir in about half the cornstarch mixture (called a slurry), and whisk until the sauce thickens slightly, about 15 seconds. add more of the slurry for a thicker sauce. set aside and keep warm while the ham rests. Carve the ham, arrange on a platter, and serve with the sauce alongside.

David’s eyes were not on the giant. His eyes were fixed on God. with invincible confidence in God, David faced his giant with confidence. 1st samuel 17:47 says, “all those reading this message knows that it is not by sword or spear that the lord saves; for the battle is the lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” there is the key and secret of David’s success over his personal giant-the battle is the lord’s. we fight in our own way. what i have learned is that you should never adopt the enemy’s method. the thing in David favor was that he was quick, young, and mobile. the liability of Goliath was his size: big, clumsy, and immobile. On other occasions David had to kill lions and bears that tried to attack the sheep flock he tended. He was an awesome shooter with a sling shot and rocks. He knew that if he could kill a bear with a sling shot, Goliath was going to go down.

JORDAN BAPTIST CHURCH got hurt,’” said Donna solomon, who joined Jordan Baptist Church more than three years ago, after relocating to lancaster since Hurricane Katrina. Pastor royal and the membership remain thankful to God that no one was hurt. “Pastor teaches about trials and tribulations, and this is just one we will have to endure,” said, Phil foster, a church Deacon who has been a member of the Church for more than 30 years. although the storm devastated the church, it does not appear to have dampened the spirits of the congregation. “My Dad used to say, ‘“there comes a time when you have to live the faith that you talk about.’ i tell my members often that “we are blessed to bless others, so we will watch and see what blessings we can be to others as a result of this tragedy,” said Pastor royal. “Our theme for this year is, ‘we walk by faith and not by sight,’” said Pastor royal, as they go about the business of rebuilding their church home. On tuesday, Pastor royal and the members met at the lancaster recreation Center to decide where they will worship.

He was called to Pastor the Church more than five years ago. the Jordan Baptist Church was founded some years 46 years ago, by the late roston Meredith robertson. Pastor r.M. robertson was

the older brother of Dr. C.C. robertson, Pastor of the Bexar street Baptist Church and President of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of america. when Pastor robertson’s health began to fail; and on the insistence of Pastor robertson and the membership of the Jordan church family members; rev. royal accepted the call to Pastor, making him the second Pastor in the Church’s 46 year history. “Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Pastor sinclair royal and the members of the Jordan Missionary Baptist Church and i want them to know that we stand ready to assist them in any way possible, as they begin the process of rebuilding after this tragedy,” said Dr. william “Bill” Blair, Jr., senior Publisher of the Elite News. the Church is located at 1515 Dewberry Blvd in lancaster, texas. to find out how and what you can do to help in the recovery process, you can call 214.402.6406 or 214.629.3310. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Unlike some of us, they got Jesus’ point. they not only listened well, but they took his message seriously and acted on it. Do you listen well to God? Do you spend time in his word? Do you let his instruction change the way you live every day? that’s what it means to be a disciple, a follower of Jesus Christ.

Notes From Union Hope

ur church school lesson was “Praise Builds Us Up” Jude 17-25. Jude writes with the intent of warning the church to stand fast in the faith that they had received from the eld lloyd T. apostles. morgan the church then had the same problems that she suffers from today, the word of God was questioned and misinterpreted to suit those that were carnal minded. today truth is traded for political correctness; we say what people want to hear to avoid offending anyone. Our churches have fallen away from the guiding principles that once made the church respected and the lord of the church revered. Jude encourages us to build up one another by praise and prayer rather than tearing each other down with criticism. the Message was delivered by Pastor

l.t.Morgan from the subject “God in Everyday life” Ps.34:15; 17-19. the question was asked of the congregation “What do you do with the Lord after Sunday service?” sunday being youth day the first of the message was directed to our youth. Pastor Morgan told the youth that they were not too young for God to use them. He then told them about a young man named Josiah that became the sixteenth King of Judah at the age of eight, and that at the age of 16 he began to seek the lord, and in spite of the fact that his father and Grandfather had been worshippers of idols, he became one of the greatest reformers in biblical history. He charged them with Prov.4:14-16; “Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers. Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way. Turn away and keep moving. For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble. (NLT) we were all encouraged to appreciate the privilege of prayer. Be blessed

Prayer Closet there is a portion in the model prayer that Jesus taught us to pray, and it say’s “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Even though it is collective in its contents, should be personal in our PasTor ClarenCe prayer closet. henderson simply because the deliverance from evil brings out revival in the person and ultimately it brings revival to the church. as you know sin is a road block to revival. No matter whether it is sin in the pulpit, or sin in the pew it will hinder revival from occurring. it obstructs the flow of blessings, it hinders the effectiveness of prayer; sin also restricts the work of the Holy spirit. therefore we pray “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from all evil.

he last few years it appeared that the Uil (University interscholastic league) was trying to sabotage the track and field programs around the state. track and field teams around the state use the texas relays, texas leon simon southern relays, to showcase theirs wares. the Uil, over the last few years has made demands on these teams that made it hard, if not impossible to run at texas relays. this year for instance the Uil said all District times had to be in by the 14th of March. in other words your District meet must be ran, and times reported by the 14th. in abiding by these rules the teams from Houston and Dallas chose to stay at home and run their District meets. for the kids that run track, and play no other sport, they missed the biggest opportunity to have the Major schools see them; thus losing a major opportunity to get scholarships. the Uil for some reason makes sure the state meet is run before the school year is over. what’s wrong with that you ask? if they would get more time they could bring in more kids and have preliminaries. right now they take the first 2 in each event, from each of the 4 regions, as opposed to the best times around the state and eliminate them in a preliminary. as it is presently designed, one year in Dallas they had 3 schools run the Mile relay in 3: 10. which is close to High school record time; only two teams could go to austin and compete for a title. in those other 3 regions they had teams running 3:15 - 3: 19 etc. How fair is that? they use as an excuse time…Yet baseball plays into June. Usually when there is a problem like that money is the problem. But Baseball brings in about as much money as snowed out schools days, and about as many fans as we have astronauts. the good news is although there will be the same problem with the state track meet; the texas relays made an adjustment to allow all the high school athletes to attend. the next five years the texas relays will be the last weekend in March as opposed to the first weekend in april. Next year the relays start March 28. i figured as soon as the city of austin realizes how much money they lost by excluding or allowing the Uil to exclude high schools from the texas relays, there would be some changes made. they had a few high schools, but there was better competition at some local meets. High schools are the Bell Cow for most track meets. Parents and Grand parents follow kids in High school. they don’t follow their Grand kids in college. in some cases the high school times are faster than some of the colleges. it’s about time for the Uil to get on the same page with the other tEXaNs.

Visit www.ariseintl.org for additional information. the city of Dallas crime report shows that in 2010, 505 rapes and 4021 assaults occurred, sadly that does not include the victims that were too afraid to come forward because of the fear of threats from their abuser(s), the guilt within their own heart and mind, and the shame placed on them by family members and society. How hard is it for us to understand the overwhelming catastrophe this has on our children which will ultimately radiate throughout the city, state, nation and world? this tragedy not only affects the victims but it spreads and bring resounding negative affect on those that come in contact with the survivors because of the anger, hate, isolation and self- destructive behavior that’s entangled within. imagine the peace that can enter homes as we with courage join those who are hurting, and the many organizations that help fight for the rights of our children

liTTle KnoWn BlaCK hisTory By BeTTye Williams “KaTT” Part 4: Despite the notion among some historians that Texas did not need a civil-rights movement to end its legacy of racial discrimination, African Americans had to use both the courts and direct action in the 1950s and 1960s to win access to public services throughout the state. Using a variety of methods, black citizens won the right to sit on juries, equal pay for equal work for black teachers, the elimination of residential segregation in the state’s major cities, jobs on the police forces of Dallas and Fort Worth, and open seating on public transportation throughout the state. They also used sit-ins in Houston and Marshall to end segregation in public accommodations. By the mid-1960s, only one area of citizenship rights continued to elude black Texans: serving in elective office.
