Opening events for the Green Line began on “Super Saturday”, December 4th at the Downtown Carrolton, Farmers Branch, Royal Lane, Inwood, Love Field and Buckner Stations. The Grinch was on hand to pass out free tickets to see “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. On December 6th the Green Line made its opening debut beginning at 5:00 am with a customer appreciation day at all Green Line stations. The completion of the Green Line brings it to 28 miles and 20 spectacular stations, stretching as far as southeast Dallas’ Pleasant Grove neighborhood, through the heart of Dallas, and northwest all the way to Famers Branch and Carrollton. James 5:7-11 "Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You HENRY NELSON too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! “ “Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”

God’s Prescription For Patience

wonder how many would agree with me that “You must first have a lot of patience to learn to have patience.” It does seem that those who are patient have large doses of it to begin with, doesn’t it? In our text for this week James gives us God’s prescription for patience. What James says may surprise you. The genuineness of your faith in Christ is proven at such intersections in life. The best tests of your Christianity always take place in the mainstream of life, not in the quietness of a worship service or the pleasant atmosphere of a Bible study. It’s in those grocery lines, busy restaurants, delays, setbacks, and hindrances where genuine faith is proven. James was a man interested in helping people like you and me develop a faith that really works in the mainstream of life. He knew that one distinguishing mark of genuine faith is patience. So James begins the text we’re studying this week with the simple command, “Be patient.” James uses the word “patience” four times in the text before us. The original Greek term translated “patience” is a compound word taken from two other words. One word means “long,” or “far.” The other means “anger,” or “wrath.”

Putting it together we come up with the literal translation of “long-angered.” You have all heard the expression, “shorttempered”? That is a description of a person easily angered. Well, the expression for patience is “long-tempered.” Some of the readers of this letter from James were people struggling with their own impatience. The context of these verses implies that James’ readers may have been poor, working-class people who were being mistreated by the rich. Under these circumstances it would have been very understandable for them to be impatient and angry, for they were being abused and they were being denied their rights at least, from a human perspective! God means for you, as a believer in Jesus Christ, to find great comfort and practical encouragement in the promise of Christ’s return. To the person who suffers in this life, Christianity offers the only true hope. And that hope rests in the return of Christ and God’s promise of a new heaven and a new earth, a place where there will no longer be pain or suffering or injustice. The theologian once wrote, “Pain can be seen as the great ‘not yet’ of eternity. It reminds us of where we are, and fans in us

a thirst for where we will someday be.” Some of you reading this message today are feeling the sting of some very serious pain. For some of you it is physical pain. No matter what you do, you just cannot seem to rid yourself of that pain. And it seems so unfair! For others it may be an intolerable working situation, or the pain of rejection. It may be that a husband, wife, parent or child is taking advantage of you even though you treat him or her kindly. It may be that a friend has turned against you due to a misunderstanding of something you did with only the purest of motives. Or it may simply be that ongoing pressure of not being able to pay all your bills when the ungodly around you continue to prosper. Now it is important to know that all your present suffering has a divine purpose, but the point here is that it is just as important to know that your suffering is temporary. Similarly, though at a much higher level, you as a Christian are meant to find great patience and hope in the promise of the Lord’s return. Advice Column: Ask Karen Hollie An Aging Christian’s Prayer DEAR LORD: he days and years have sped so rapidly by and now I find that not only am I no longer young. I'm past the years called middle age. I also find that as I continue to grow older, I truly need Your help and stamina to keep me close to Your house of prayer. GERALDINE The Devil would have me DAVIDSON-HOOKER think of my aching bones and worn muscles. It is true that at times I am unable to get out to church, although You know, Lord, how much I really want to come. Yet, I pray that I may not give in to Satan by using my minor aches and pains as excuses to stay home from worship on Sunday and Wednesday nights, opting to follow the easy way by watching TV. Lord, as I near heaven's gate, may I be found more and more in prayer. Satan would try to deter me by whispering that I have prayed enough down through the years, and that since I am old, I do not need to spend as much time in that exercise. May I always remember that the Devil is a liar. Lord, help me also with my Bible reading. You know how Satan tries to make us think that the stories recorded in Your Word are "old hat" by now. I have gone over them time and time again, but I know better than to believe I have learned everything there is to know about them. Take me back to the Book with a new zeal and a renewed ardor. Lord, the baits of Satan are a bit different for me now than they were when I was younger. I am no longer tempted by lustful pastimes or superficial pleasures. Yet I am tempted to boredom, even to monotony, and this spills over into my spiritual life. Lord, my mind is not always as alert as it once was. But it still recalls past answers to prayer, the wonderful services I have experienced, the memories of bodily healings and spiritual touches from heaven. So remind me to share my faith in Christ with those who are younger. Help me to encourage and lift those who are starting out on the Christian walk. Lord, I see the teens and remember when I was young. But don't let me pass the youth by, myself contributing to the generation gap. Instead, help me to put my arm around their shoulders, to whisper in their ears that I am praying for them. It is easy to be critical. But, Lord, I want to love them. Lord, I need You now as much as I've ever needed You. I am growing older. In the short time still allotted to me on earth, please make me more and more like You!

FIGHT FOR SCOTT SISTERS

T

he Texas NAACP asked you to fight for the Scott sisters' freedom. This week, we need your help fighting for their wellbeing. Since 1993, Gladys and Jamie have been locked away from their friends and family. They were convicted of being accomplices in a robbery of $11 and have served 16 years in prison -- even though the teenagers who actually committed the crime served only two years. As the holiday season approaches, this horrific injustice is even more upsetting. There will be no meals around the dinner table for the Scott sisters. No present exchanges. No parties. But the Scott sisters do receive notes and letters -- and it would mean so much to them if they heard from you. Send a short message of support and encouragement to Gladys and Jamie to help them get through one more holiday, until justice is restored: The extremity of the Scott sisters' case makes it unique. But the injustice

that they are experiencing is something the NAACP has been battling for more than 100 years. The fact remains: The criminal justice system in America still disproportionately subjects people of color to unfair sentencing guidelines. Gladys and Jamie Scott are just one example of the countless men and women punished by this shameful truth. That is why we are fighting for the Scott sisters -- so that no one has to experience this kind of injustice in the future. Let Gladys and Jamie know that you're still there for them. Send your message of support and tell them why you are fighting: http://action.naacp.org/SendMessages OfSupport Thank you for giving the Scott sisters a reason to celebrate this season.

he NFL started a campaign to “keep their players safe”. Some players and some teams tend to think this is hypocritical. The Pittsburg Steelers seem to think they have been

singled out. Seems as though I’ve heard that before. As a matter of fact by the same team. It reminded me why it’s hard to be a Steeler admirer. The Steelers went 40 years without winning and they came up with the right formula. They started with a lot of small college guys with chips on their shoulders.

December 10, 2010

BarBerShOP talk with leON SimON Joe Greene from North Texas, Dwight White from East Texas State, L.C. Greenwood from Arkansas A.M., Ernie Holmes from Texas Southern and Mel Blount from Southern University. You get my drift. The Steelers never adopted the bad boy role they adopted the role of “Bully”, there is a difference. They tried and in most cases did intimidate, they’re probably the ones who came up with the phrase “hunting ain’t no fun, now the rabbit’s got a gun”. Whenever they played the truly bad boys, i.e. the Raiders, Bears, Oilers etc. they would complain to the league that there was a criminal element in football. That is when Jack Tatum and his cohorts with the Raiders would treat Lynn Swann, like Mel Blount, and like Jack Lambert did the Cowboys’ Golden Richards, and other

receiver types. That’s enough of the history lesson. James Harrison, Steelers linebacker complains that he’s been unfairly targeted, duh!! When the league announced its policy to cut back on hits to the head, and concussions that meant no more helmet hits to defenseless players. Mr. Harrison said to the National media, that he can only play the game one way. He even threatened to retire (that’s a joke). Let me make sure I understand him: Isn’t that why our jails and prisons are overcrowded by people that continue to do things that society says are against the law. The Rooney’s contacted the league just like they did when Tatum and Skip Thomas knocked Lynn Swann and Stalworth out. They never mentioned when the Raiders

www.dfwelitenews.com

said Franco Harris’ immaculate reception was an illegal catch, or the phantom interference call on Mark Washington (Cowboys) to give the Steelers another Super Bowl. The Baltimore Ravens ruffed up Ben Roethlisberger just like Mr. Harrison did the Quarter back for Buffalo. The Ravens didn’t get a flag for their hit. Well they didn’t put a disclaimer with their statement as did Mr. Harrison did. He said, “I try to hurt people”. And he wonders why he’s paid over $120,000 in fines. I think big Ben will just have to take a couple of aspirins and call the Doctor in the morning. As for Mr. Harrison, ask the Rooney’s for a raise and keep your mouth shut in the future.

Notes From Union Hope

he Highway for God” Isaiah 40:15,25-26,29-31 was Sundays church school lesson. As we enter the Christmas season we are reminded that Jesus birth was prophesied from Genesis until his birth. Like any great event the lesson reminds us that for the presence of the Lord to be realized there must first be ELD LLOYD T. MORGAN preparation. The Prophet Isaiah called on the people to clear the way for the coming of the Lord. When a King announced that he was going to visit a city they got busy filling the holes and leveling the hills so that the King’s entrance would be smooth. As we celebrate the birth of the Christ child let us not forget what the season is really all about, it’s not about how many gifts we receive or give it is a celebration of the

Page 12

Of

gift of God to the world; the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our morning message was delivered by Pastor L.T.Morgan from the subject “Give yourself away” Rom 12:1-2. We are admonished by the Apostle Paul to take our everyday, ordinary life, our sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking around life and place it before God as an offering. Don’t become so well –adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God (The message). In the Christian life, doctrine and duty always go together. What we believe helps to determine how we behave. We must translate our learning into living, and show in our daily lives that we trust God. On Sunday Dec 12, at the 11:o’clock hour the Women of Union Hope will celebrate their annual day. The guest speaker will be 1st Lady Ursula Hall of Grace Temple Fellowship Baptist Church where Rev. Keith Hall is pastor. We invite all our friend and readers to join us in this service. Be blessed

KEVAN BROWNING

elcome to t h e weekend, baaaaby! Prayers start this days column for Aretha Franklin. The 68 year old "Queen of Soul" underwent surgery and is said to be suffering from pancreatic cancer...The music video for Michael Jackson’s new single “Hold My Hand” feat. Akon has finally been

released by Sony. The clip kicks off with hundreds of fans yelling, “Love you, Michael,” then features a number of classic MJ footage and impersonations. Akon also appears throughout the video, which re-presents the first single from the album “Michael,” due Tuesday. R U ready for the NFC's hottest MICHAEL quarterback???? J ACKSONN Noooo, not John Kitna, who's done an able job during Tony Romo's absence...The Boyz would be 4-0 during the Jason Garrett era, except for a fumble fingers move by receiver Roy Williams! The hottest QB this weekend at Jerry World will not be the 38 year old Kitna, but former bad boy Michael Vick and the his Philadelphia Eagles! Vick has thrown 15 TD's this year, only 2 interceptions and leads all QB's in rushing yardage... The Eagles reside at the top f the NFC East and Sunday night will be a battle! Hat's off also to the Mavs who had a 10 game winning streak at press time. They face Deron Williams and the Utah Jazz Saturday Night at the AA Center...I know you've heard all the Oprah and Gayle are gay rumours...Well Oprah set the record straight on last nights Barabar Walter's special, saying, "I am not a lesbian" and "Stead-man is still my lover" and "I don't know of another man on this planet who could handle his situation with such dignity and grace"! Of Gayle Ms. Winfrey said, "She is the Mother i never had", "the sister everyone would want. Hat's off to you Oprah on your new Network and the 25 years you've blessed us with The Oprah Winfrey Show! Speaking of moguls...Did you DERON WILLIAMS know that our own Jessica Simpson

www.dfwelitenews.com

company groosed almost 750 Million this year and Ms. Simpson pocketed a cool 100 Million??? I mention this because I met Jessica last year and wa surprised to find her very cool...She even laughed at one of my jokes, lol! Milli Vanilli OPRAH WINFREY singer Fab Morvan is making a pop culture comeback with a new group, more than 20 years after his old pop duo's lip-synching scandal made international headlines. Morvan, a 44-year-old French singer, is the surviving member of Milli Vanilli, which was popular for the 1980s hit "Girl, You Know It's True". He released a solo album in 2003 and now performs with DJ Sean McCaff as part of a new Electronica music duo SMFM, which combines their initials and stands for "Supplying Mirages For Mankind". Milli Vanilli sold more than 7 million copies of their debut album by the same name and won a Grammy in 1990. It was revoked after it was revealed other singers had provided the vocals on the record. Good luck Fab! My partner Bloodhound Benny is reporting on the conditions that will meet Wesley Snipes when he enters the prison camp in Lewis Run, Pennsylvania for a three-year sentence on tax evasion. Snipes left behind his wife, young children and celebrity neighbors in the wealthy Florida enclave made infamous by next-door neighbor Tiger Woods – and reported to Federal Correctional Institution McKean, a minimumsecurity camp that houses 300 nonviolent inmates and does not have fences around its perimeter. After his income tax evasion conviction, Passenger 57 paid his 5 Million dollar fine...Good luck, my brotha! It was reported RAVEN-SYMONE previously that Christina Milian received a $4 million divorce settlement and $5,000 a month in child support in exchange for a gag order not to speak about the divorce or marriage with The-Dream. But the singer cleared all that up on the Wendy Williams show Monday. “Everything about that is all fictitious,” Milian said. “Everything…the gag order. I’m completely allowed to speak about anything that I want to. Except the settlement, we do choose to not make that public.” She added that she and her exhusband remain cordial and they both desire to establish a healthy environment for their child. Happy Birthday To YOU and Celebs this week: Little Richard Penniman is 78, jerry "The Iceman" Butler is 7, Jermaine Jackson is 54 and Raven-Symone is 25! thanks for "Rollin With A Brotha" in The Elite News and Online at www.dfwelitenews.com
