New Day in Dallas County and the promise to make county government and the criminal justice system more efficient and transparent were the promises being made at “swearing in” ceremonies at the Sixth Floor Museum and across Dallas on New Year’s Day. Newly elected and incumbent Democrats took the oath of office since sweeping Dallas County elections this past November. “26 years ago I was sworn in as a Jr. Commissioner and now I am the Elder.” “Today I have a predominantly Democratic Court, and the first Hispanic to serve on the Commissioner’s Court. “Today is a new day and a new time”, said Dallas County’s most tenured Commissioner, John Wiley Price. Among those taking the oath of office was newly elected County Judge, Clay Jenkins. Judge Jenkins, a Highland Park civil attorney defeated Republican Judge Wade Emmert in November’s county elections. After receiving the oath of office from Commissioner Price, Judge Jenkins had this to say to those in attendance. “We sit at the crossroads of commerce for goods traveling between the West Coast and the Eastern seaboard and north from Mexico.” “Yet the area of Southern Dallas County has one of the

Dr. Garcia wife of Dallas Attorney and former State Representative Domingo Garcia defeated Republican Kenneth Mayfield to seal a Democratic majority on the Commissioner’s Court. “A new day means new leadership and new ideas, and we’re ready to confront our challenges, she said. Commissioner Garcia said that she too, would push for more accountability and transparency in County Government. “Obviously being the first Latina brings big
