It’s Back! The Universoul Circus August 2-7 Walker. Mr. Walker’s vision behind the Universoul Circus was to bring something “different” to create a show that presented a wide spectrum of black talent to a wide demographic of spectators. “To reach deep into our culture and search for what talent and skills lie asleep in the black entertainment experience. We wanted to apply our gathered years in the live appearance industry, to make a difference, to change the industry we live in, creating growth and new opportunity”, said Mr. Walker. And he’s done just that. Before the UniverSoul Circus, for many of

Triumphs In Troubles Job 19:25 “And as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth.”
H
ere we are again taking a look at the life of our dear friend and brother in the Lord? Job! He is our brother, but one that we may not understand all that well because he is known as the one who has had the most trouble in the world? In fact, trouble that was permitted by God Himself and imposed by Satan! Not many of us could say that as fact? But, then again? Maybe we do know him or at least, we can identify with him because we know troubles too! I think that it is safe to say that we do not know the troubles that Job knew or at least to the extent that he did know them. Jobs troubles were greater than most troubles that we may know and ever know in a lifetime? And thank God for that! Henry Nelson
Job 14:1 says, “Man, who is born of woman, is short-lived and full of turmoil. Sincere words that come from one whom does know troubles? Amen!-Almost sounds depressing? In fact, within this one chapter alone? (chapter 14) Job asks some questions that would only be instigated by a man who has faced severely adverse situations?-Verse 4? Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean thing?-Verse 10? If a man gives up the ghost, where is he? Verse 14? If a man die, shall he live again? Do you hear the hurt? Rather, do you hear the deep thinking and longing within this man? A man who is looking to someone who is much stronger than he? Job was faced with some terribly adverse situations, but yet he was able to triumph! My friend God wants all us a believer who are suffering and are oppressed (and that involves most of us, at one time or another). He wants us to know that there is coming a day? A day of Resurrection and a day of Victory. A day when we will be with the Lord forever! So to answer the questions that Job posed? Yes, Yes, and Yes! Yes! We can be made clean when we are unclean! Hebrews 10:22 tells us our hearts have been sprinkled clean
from all evil?Yes! We will be with God when we are absent from this body! Paul said in 2nd Corinthians 5:8 that, to be absent from this body, is to be present with the Lord!? Amen! Yes! We will live again, if we know Jesus as Savior! In John 11:25, Jesus tells us?”I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies?” Amen! Dear fellow suffers at the time that we do experience the fullness of our salvation? What I mean is, when we are in heaven at that time when we experience heaven firsthand? Then we will know the reality of Romans 8:18? For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. This kind of verse may seem like a copout to quote to one going through troubles? But when we really do know heaven and its fullness it will be the farthest thing from a cop-out. It will be fact! Are you facing troubles? There is hope! Are you in a whirlwind of chaos? There is peace! Are you taking on huge battles? There is victory! All of which are found in our Redeemer! I believe that it is safe to say that it is at
this point in the letter of Job? At this moment and season of his life, that Job is coming to grips with what is transpiring within his life. This is one of the most loved and best-known portions of this book? And it is also a point at which Job is pleading with his friends and warning his friends and this statement is squeezed in the middle of these words? Job testifies and makes an impression with these simple words! Just read chapter 20; which is the response of one of his friends and you will see that there can be testimonies that do break through the hard heart. You too can have a testimony while facing many troubles; even the worst time of your life and others can be changed! Changed, because you are still focused on the fact that there is a great and loving God in heaven? Changed, because you are focused on the fact the God is still the most important and not yourself? Changed because you are able to move forward and Triumph in your troubles; much like Job was able to do! Was America Really Ready for an African American President?
President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner’s
By: Jordan Blair
ELITE NEWS PUBLISHER
A
fter hearing President’s obama’s speech on Monday night, and then Speaker of the House Boehner’s speech afterwards, it was quite obvious that Washington has not gained any ground on solving the national budget/debt problems. Any person can see, whether you are rich or poor, employed or unemployed, democrat or republican, educated or uneducated, that the Republicans are snowballing. As the wealth gap widens between the “haves” and the “have nots,” the Republicans ignore the will of the people with their reckless and irresponsible actions. The Pew Research analysis finds that, in percentage terms, the bursting of the housing market bubble in 2006 and the recession that followed from late 2007 to mid-2009 took a far greater toll on the wealth of minorities than whites. From 2005 to 2009, inflation-adjusted median wealth fell by 66% among Hispanic households and 53% among black households, compared with just 16% among white households. As a result of these declines, the typical black household had just $5,677 in wealth (assets minus debts) in 2009; the typical Hispanic household had $6,325 in wealth; and the typical white household had $113,149. These findings are based on the Pew Research Center’s analysis of data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), an economic questionnaire distributed periodically to tens of thousands of households by the U.S. Census Bureau. It is considered the most comprehensive source of data about household wealth in the United States by race and ethnicity. Before there was a black president it would have been deemed unpatriotic to say you wanted the president to fail. In fact, in an article written by Goldie Taylor, it was reported that it took House Speaker
s
John Boehner 36 hours to return the President’s telephone call. “Despite this unprecedented era of strident partisanship, until now we could take a lot of things for granted. For instance, the seemingly small matter of Speaker Boehner answering the telephone when the president calls. Twice in two days, President obama called and was forced to leave a message. I am willing to wager that this has never once happened in the history of telephones,” said Goldie Taylor. Ms. Taylor also reported that in a stunning show of unchecked zeal, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said his number one goal was to make Barack obama a one-term president. Not creating new jobs, not advancing public education, not reforming our tax system or investing in America’s future. McConnell announced that he is wholly devoted to making sure obama gets a one-way ticket back to Chicago. From the looks of things, he and his colleagues plan to kill any effort to jump-start the American economy. They seem to believe that if they can just hold on to this bad economy long enough — maintaining the uncertain environment so business won’t invest and Americans will stay out of work — that they can re-take the White House in 2012. Ms. Taylor goes on to say that the real deal is they don’t want a deal — not on the debt ceiling or anything else. The president was right to wonder if there was anything the republicans could say “yes” to. The answer is no. But it isn’t because of some trumped up commitment to so-called core principals. The truth is today’s Republican Party is controlled by a fringe group of players who are after one thing: Making sure the first black president is the last. History shows that former President Ronald Reagan raised the debt limit 18 times. So why is it an issue that our current president, Barack obama (who happens to be part African American), wants to raise the debt limit to pay the country’s bills? Are the rich and wealthy so selfish and self-centered that they would allow the country to go to ruins instead of just working with the President to help the whole of America and not just a select few? What is the debt ceiling? The debt ceiling is a cap set by Congress on the amount of debt the federal government can legally borrow. The cap applies to debt owed to the public (i.e., anyone who buys U.S. bonds) plus debt owed to federal government trust funds such as those for Social Security and Medicare. The first limit was set in 1917 and set at $11.5 billion, according to the Center for a Responsible Federal Budget. Previously, Congress had to sign off every time the federal government issued debt.

Since March 1962, the debt ceiling has been raised 74 times, according to the Congressional Research Service. What happens if Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling before Aug. 2? The going assumption is that no good can come of it. Treasury would not have authority to borrow any more money. And that can be a problem since the government borrows to make up the difference between what it spends and what it takes in. It uses that borrowed money to help fund operations and pay creditors. During President obama’s speech, there was a subliminal message to the American public. He called for the public to get in touch with your elected officials (i.e., write, email, text, tweet, face book or call) to let them know that you are fed up and speaking up. We are tired of taking the brunt of everything, including paying over and above your share of taxes and believe that everyone in America, including those in the House and Senate, should pay their fair share of taxes as well. As President obama has said, it took a long time for this country to get into debt and it’s going to take an effort on everyone’s part to get this country out of debt. To find out who represents you, visit www.Congress.org. The Republicans are already thinking about the upcoming elections. In fact, they seem to be more concerned about the 2012 elections than keeping this country on track and in good standing. Well, why don’t we give them something to think about? Why don’t we start looking at and thinking about who can replace them in the House and in the Senate for the upcoming 2012 elections? Maybe the thought of them losing their positions to someone else might give them something else to think about. (www.thegrio.com/politics/beforeblackpresidents-hashtaghighlights-debt-ceiling-double-standard.php). According to an article written by Mike Brunker, in Washington, the wealth gap has been a major point of friction in talks about raising the debt ceiling and putting the nation on sounder fiscal footing. Brunker says that President Barack obama and Democrats have sought a variety of ways to increase revenue, all aimed at those in the upper income bracket. “The president has proposed closing loopholes in the tax code, such as breaks for owners of private jets and for oil companies as well as higher income tax rates on wealthier individuals and families. Republicans have made resistance to any tax increases a focal point in the debate, arguing that raising taxes in a recession is an impediment to creating jobs. Neither plan currently under consideration contains any tax increases,” says Brunker.

What’s in your heart comes out of your mouth; what comes out of your mouth shapes your future
od had placed us in charge of our divinelydesigned destiny. We are the masters of the treasures He has given us. God has granted us rich resources to meet any challenge facing us. By learning from our past interpreting our present, we can build for our future. Therefore, there is hope regardless of how hopeless our situations, circumstances and conditions are. “The Parable of the Householder,” told by Jesus, found in Matthew 13:51-53 (NRSV) THIS PARABLE IDENTIFIES KINGDoM-MINDED DISCIPLES AS MASTERS oF A HoUSEHoLD. That’s right! For those of us who are MoVING FoRWARD FoR THE KINGDoM”S SAKE, the Lord grants us lordship. As it relates to the kingdom’s purpose, He compares us to “masters of a household.” When we seek Him first, He rewards us with rulership. In other words, in designated areas and specific situations in the Kingdom of God, He allows us to reign with Him. We may be His servants, but Kingdom-citizens need not be subservient to any other but Him. We are masters, I tell you, of a household. As masters, we are in charge. We have been assigned responsibilities from on High. Note that our Lord did not liken His disciples to house help, field hands, yard workers or gatekeepers in this passage. No, He left us in a position to give orders. As a matter of fact, He is looking to us to keep things in order until He gets back. As masters, we have liberties. We are not restricted in caring for the household. He has faith is us to do what needs to be done. He gives us privileges that others do not receive. He empowers us to be free to exercise our respective gifts and talents in His service. We are provided with “the keys of the Kingdom” to “loose and bind” whatever is necessary to further His work. As masters, we have access to resource. God would not put us in charge and grant us liberties without providing us with resources to fulfill our mastering responsibilities. We have got goods to work with. No Kingdom-builder serves empty handed. To be sure, He has left us with timely tools and valuable resources to master the household well. So, never Forget, in this parable, the Lord identifies KINGDoM MINDED DISCIPLES AS MASTERS oF A HoUSEHoLD. AL. Kingdom-minded disciples understand Kingdom principles and precepts. Matthew 13 contains six parables. After Jesus has told five of them, He then asked His disciples, “Have you understood all this?” To which they answered, “Yes”. Then, in a commending spirit, an affirming accolade, and an encouraging enunciation, the Master told His attentive and attached followers, “The Parable of the Householder.” He wanted them and us to know that Kingdom-building pays off. MoVING FoRWARD FoR THE KINGDoM’S SAKE reaps big dividends. The guarantees that we are treasurer-finders. And we become treasure-finders as a result of our being Kingdom-seekers. The Lord’s disciples understand how the Kingdom operates. Kingdomprocedure, Kingdom-priority, Kingdom-purpose and Kingdom-promise are not “Greek” to us. We learn to know and understand what He teaches. Kingdom-minded disciples appreciate the treasure at their disposal. Like the record says, “(Kingdomcitizens) bring out of (our) treasure what is new and what is old.” We give thanks for the rich heritage of the old. We treasure the old Testaments, with its Law, Writings, Poetry, Wisdom and Prophets, knowing that it was the only Bible of Jesus and the Early Church. We value the timeless truths, which carried our righteous foreparents from Abraham’s call to Malachi’s Prophecy. We are enriched by the stories of men and women of old who exemplified faith in God who kept His promises to them. We know that the treasure in the Sacred Scripture is more valuable than rubies, diamonds and gold. Moreover, Kingdom-minded disciples praise God for the wealthy-knowledge we find in the new. Because we have walked and talked with the Master-teacher Himself, we have access to treasured truth about which Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Samuel, David, Solomon and Elijah knew not of. Through the eyes and ears of our Lord, we see jewels in the Word about which the Prophets only predicted. With the mind of Christ, we can proclaim new insights that have never before been revealed to His people. The Gospel of Christ makes new applications in new forms even in our new age. Let us not forget to read our Bibles and may God Bless you RAL GooD and may He ever keep you in His loving care. For any information about Layman and activities please call Gene Turner at 214-228-9470

T
he oppression by the Midianites was so severe that many Israelites lived in caves and harvested their crops in secret. When the people cried to God for help, He chose to use Gideon; “‘But Lord,’ Gideon asked, ‘how can I save Israel? My clan is the Geraldine weakest in Davidson-Hooker Manasseh, and I am the least in my family’” (Judges 6:15). God wanted His Children to know that true deliverance is only through His strength and by His grace. By using Gideon to save the people, God taught a valuable lesson of trust. Judges 7:2-3 “The Lord said to Gideon, ‘You have too many men for Me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against Me that her own strength has saved her, announce now to the people, “Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.”‘ So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.” God’s message of grace and power would not be obvious if the army had any hope of victory by their own strength: “But the Lord said to Gideon, ‘There are still too many men’” (Judges 7:4). Gideon’s army started with 32,000 but he was not sent into battle until the army was shrunk to only three hundred. These were impossible odds! But God always reigns supreme in the impossible: the battle was completely victorious!! God is never interested in the “wonderful” things we can do for Him. He is pleased only by our obedience and our trust. In fact, God allows many of our great endeavors to fail simply because they are being pursued without giving Him absolute control. We are never to rest in our own strength and ability; rather, we are to continually walk by faith. Several hundred years after Gideon, the prophet Isaiah gave this same message: “Woe to those who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy one of Israel” (Isaiah 31:1). God will lead us into victory, but we must give Him our total trust. When we walk in His victory, we will have the joy of witnessing His mighty hand and find true fulfillment in bringing Him glory and honor. His victory is never by our strength, savvy, cunning, or intelligence. It is only as we trust Him to work in and through the empty vessel of our life. True victory will only be won as we go into battle with ALL of Him and without too much of us.

Notes From Union Hope
S
u n d a y c h u r c h school lesson could very well serve as a reminder to all believers that God is the one that gives us the victory in our lives. Eld lloyd T. Morgan our subject was “Let God Rule” Judges 7:2-4, 13-15; 8:22-25. In this lesson we see God take a man who was not heroic nor a military man, and use him to defeat Israel’s enemies. Gideon was instructed to gather an army and 32,000 men answered the call. God then says a strange thing “Gideon your army is to big” tell all those that are fearful and timid to go home, and 22,000 went home leaving only 10,000. God says you still have too many and he then reduces the army to 300 and says it would be through these few men that he would gain the victory. God does not depend on numbers but uses those that are willing to put their faith in him and
his ability to accomplish the impossible. often this is the situation in the local church, there may be a lot of people but only a few that are willing to do something to support the church in kingdom building. Many are called but few are chosen. The morning message was delivered by Pastor Lloyd Morgan from the subject “Let it be real” Matt.23:18.The sad truth is that there are people in churches that are not real. What they do is for some personal motive, to make themselves look good. The Bible calls them Hypocrites and Job 27:8 says; for what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul? The message focused on two groups the scribes and Pharisees and Jesus said “all their works they do for to be seen of men:”the Christian is challenged to be sure that everything he does for his master is real. God bless! So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2: 5

hen we pray, w e must remember that we can come to God as his little children. We must not forget the God Almighty is also our very own Pastor Clarence Henderson Father. “For we have not received the spirit of bondage to fear; but we have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15). And because we are God’s children through faith in Christ, “God has sent forth the spirit of His son into our hearts, crying “Abba”, Father” (Galatians 4:6). The word “Abba” is a term of intimacy. We can come to God in simple faith as a child would go to his natural loving father. Mark 16:15 He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation

All of the fuss you heard, suspicion of being tricked BaRBeRshOp Talk nothing of any consequence was changed. Now it’s a wiTh leON simON good deal. Saturday you would have thought there was a possibility that it could be a while yet, before the
T
he NFL owners unanimously agreed on a labor agreement last Thursday. The players were expected to ratify the agreement last Wednesday, but that never happened. leon Simon After the owners signed the agreement unanimously the players screamed foul. The players said the owners agreed to some things that were not originally in the negotiation. They said they had been hood winked, bamboozled, tricked, etc. The players had certain leader type players on every sports media outlet in the country saying, things like we don’t have a time line. We will go over this thing with a fine tooth comb. They gave the impression that the owners had pulled a fast one on them. Saturday the day after all of the accusations and words of distrust the players’ leadership team announced after studying the deal they would recommend approval by the players.
lockout was officially over. Listening to the players you would think the owner had put the player back past the Curt Flood ruling. I thought the owners had taken free agency away from them. It used to be very puzzling to me why a college student and in some cases college graduates need an agent if they are undrafted? After the negotiations and listening to some of the trouble these guys get in with what they say and do; I know now why they need representation. These guys tweet things and say things before the press and then they have to retract their statements. Guys that readily come to mind; James Harrison, Dez Bryant, just to name a couple, believe me there are more. There is always something taken out of context or misquoted, with these guys. I would really like to see some one hold James Harrison’s hand. This guy bad mouthed the commissioner, and two team mates. The Commissioner took $100.000 bucks from Harrison in fine money in 2010
and still has the power. Mr. Harrison hasn’t made a dime since the Super Bowl and yet he’s laid the ground work to start the season off in a financial hole. The Steelers could fine him and the commissioner, yet this genius tried to clarify his position in an apology. He never apologized to the commissioner or his teammates he apologized to Gay people. out of the three he offended Gay people are the only ones that cannot fine him. Unless someone takes a telephone from him he could play this season for free, so the strike could have been a benefit to him. At least on strike he can’t get fined for illegal hits. FYI ten teams will report Wed. 27t . 10 teams report on Thurs., 10 report on Fri.; The Texans and Jets on Sunday. Football is back!!

The rest of the UniverSoul circus cast includes a daredevil motorcycle globe act, trickster dogs, high wire tigers, Caribbean and stilt dancers and the elephants of course! This year, Tony Tone of Memphis, Tennessee will be handling Ringmaster duties along with his sidekick Zeke (Zanda Charles) from Hartford, Connecticut and there is a rumor circulating that Shuckey-Duckey, just might drop by to entertain the crowd. “We are a circus with a rhythm and beat all our own,” said UniverSoul Circus Founder and CEo, Cedric Walker. “We will always produce a show filled with soul and hip hop music, and we will always feature only the most dynamic performers from around the world. We have long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us.
