Former Council members supporting Natinsky are Ed Oakley, Gary Griffith, Lois Finkelman, Craig Holcomb, Chris Luna and Mary Poss. Caraway urged voters, especially those in the southern sector, to choose Natinsky instead of David Kunkle or Mike Rawlings because the city is already headed in the right direction. Mayor Dwaine Caraway stated that "We've got great things happening," he said. "We got people already working together that we already know. We

Patience in the Face of Suffering Psalms 37:7-8 “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from henry nelson anger and turn from wrath; do not fret it leads only to evil.”

hat is patience? It can be difficult for us to be patient especially when you are experiencing suffering. "Patience is a calm endurance based on the certain knowledge that God is in control." Longsuffering is that quality of self-restraint in the face of provocation which does not hastily retaliate; it is the opposite of anger, and is associated with mercy. It is the quality that does not surrender to circumstances or succumb under trial; it is the opposite of despondency and is associated with hope.
What tests your patience? Bible teachers who talk too long. Long lines at the grocery store. Working with computers. Telemarketers at 5:00 P.M. What does the Bible teach about patience ? 1st Corinthians 13:4 says, “Love is patient.” Proverbs 14:29 says, “A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly.” Amen! For years William Wilberforce pushed the Britain’s Parliament to abolish slavery. Discouraged, he was about to give up. His elderly friend, John Wesley, heard of it and from his deathbed called for pen and paper. With trembling hand, Wesley wrote: “Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you would have been worn out by the opposition of men and devils. But if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them stronger than God? “Oh be not weary of well-doing! Go on, in the name of God and in the power of his might, till even American slavery shall vanish away before it.” Wesley died six days later, but Wilberforce fought for forty-five more years and in 1833 he saw slavery abol-
ished in Britain. Three days later he died. What if he would have given up? What can you do when you are angry and want to complain? First think about whether is this really worth getting angry about? Will it cause more problems than it solves? Control your anger you have a choice. You can recognize it, admit it, and express it properly. Direct your anger at a thing not a person. Do not say “You make me angry!” Amen! How can you be more patient? Remember how patient God was and is with you. Remember to make allowances for each other. Patience is an act of worship. Please remember that nothing has come into your life that God has not allowed and do not be discouraged because perseverance pays off. Amen! Here is a short story that I read years ago. When this figure in history was seven years old, his family was forced out of their home on a legal technicality, and he had to work to help support them. At age nine, his mother died. At 22, he lost his job as a store clerk. He wanted to go to law school, but his education was not good enough. At 23, he

Current and former Dallas City Council Members endorse Ron Natinsky for Dallas Mayor at Press Conference... continued from the front cover don't have time to try to learn about anybody else new when we already have the right tools in the toolbox in Councilman Ron Natinsky." The Council members also mentioned his ability to bring people together and collaborate toward a common goal. His support for public safety was mentioned, in addition to his leadership. “Ron is an independent leader who can bring us together – businesses, community leaders and elected officials from across the political spectrum – to move Dallas forward,” said Delia Jasso. They noted that reducing crime is a top priority for Natinsky. During his tenure, the Council added funding for 200 additional officers and crucial equipment. In addition, for two consecutive years, Natinsky led the Council in adopting a “no-tax-increase” city budget "What's

o we really take gene tuner God at His Word? We say we do, but do we really, totally believe what God says will eventually come true? Well, we do not act like we do, because if we really take God at His word, we would not do some of the things that we do. The reason why I say that is because I am a prime example, and that is why I was a non-believer for so long. In other words that is why I remained in the world of sin not knowing, and not wanting to know God, because I did not take God at His word. I heard my mother talk about the joy of Jesus Christ. I read about it in Sunday School all my childhood days. I’ve heard preachers preach about the joy God will give, but I did not really believe that is because I was never baptized until I reached the age of forty-two. I did not think that anything could top the good times, and the fun I was having in the street of Dallas. I thought I was at the epitome of fun, and that is just what it was FUN. I did not think things could get any better that it was at the time in my life, but I had never experienced joy until I met the Lord Jesus Christ. After I met Jesus I found JOY and you know it is a funny thing about JOY, you can’t explain it no matter how much you try. All you can do is tell somebody how to get it, but you cannot explain to anybody about it. All you can tell them is that you found complete JOY in Jesus Christ. They have to get it for themselves. After experiencing the joy I would not give it up for
www.dfwelitenews.com
any amount o f money. When you have JOY you will be able to do great things in God’s name. You remember when Peter and John went down to Samaria (Acts 8:14-18) and Simon the soceror asked Peter and John to sell him some of this power or magic. Now, when I became a Christian I began to understand why a sinner would not take God at His word. Men of God often get caught up in traps, because they go through the motion of taking God at His word, but in some instances they really don’t, but we as Christians must learn to take God at His word. There are some people we read about in the Bible who did not take God at His word. Take Adam for instance, He really did not take God at His word when God told him if he ate of the forbidden fruit he would surely die. After Adam sinned. God made it plain that to please Him or make atonement for your sins, there must be the shedding of blood. Well Abel and Cain understood this, but Cain offered up fruits and vegetables which was good, but not acceptable for sin, and that is why God turned his offering down, but accepted Abel’s offering. Cain did not take God at His word. Don’t you be a fool enough to believe that if you want something, just believe hard enough and you will have it. This is not faith. Faith is taking God at His word. It is believing and acting on what God has revealed. Joy is inward, a response to man fulfilling his creation purpose of fellowship with God, and how can man fulfill his creation purpose? By “Taking God at His Word”. As Christians we say we believe God’s word. Do we really? Let us remember to read our Bibles. May God bless you REAL GOOD, and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

The Flight of the Butterfly (Another version of the Flight of the Butterfly worthy of repeating.)
O
ne day, man found a cocoon of a butterfly. Soon, a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny geralDine hole. Then it DaViDson-hooKer stopped, as if it couldn’t go further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon. The butterfly emerged easily but it had a swollen body and shriveled wings. The man continued to watch it, expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge and expand enough to support the body, neither happened! In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around. It was never able to fly. What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required by the butterfly to get through the opening was a way of forcing the fluid from the body into the wings so that it would be ready for flight once that was achieved. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. Going through life with no obstacles would cripple us. We will not be as strong as we could have been and we would never fly. This allegory not only applies to our own lives, but also to our parenting skills. It is so difficult to see our children struggle and all too often we decide to help or protect them from life’s struggles. But they too are like the butterfly–they must experience physical difficulties to develop their muscles. They must also experience loss, heartache and difficult challenges to develop strong personalities and character. Truly there are instances in life that what we’re doing for other people doesn’t result to what we expect it to be. Yes, we may have valid reasons and good intention, but it ended up to their immaturity and misfortune. Sometimes we cannot afford ourselves to just watch and see them suffering, that is why we tend to offer our unsolicited advice for their growth and development. But we must have to learn also…that they must spread their wings like an eagle, they must have to stand on their own, discover their potentials and bear the consequence of their actions. We must learn to encourage our children as they crawl and struggle. To be a full blown butterfly is a process as well as to be a matured Christian. There are certain stages that we need to undergo and experience. It takes time……..in HIS time! Then possibly, they can be …. the best person GOD wants them to be. Then we can rejoice when they Fly!!!!!!

an you imagine not having God to pray to? Man without God is a pitiful thing. We are wretched creatures and cannot master ourselves. In other words, without pastor ClarenCe God, we can do nothing. It is henDerson because of our weakness and incompleteness that we are driven to pray to our Heavenly Father and this could be the means of establishing a deep and abiding fellowship with God. David the Psalm writer, felt an urgency to call on God for help, after realizing that he was helpless without God. In Psalms 55: 16-17, “as for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me.” Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, and he shall here my voice.
Notes From Union Hope
I
nstructions about worship I Timothy 2:16; 3:14-16 was our church school lesson. Paul writing to his son in the ministry says “I exhort therefore, that “First of all” pray for all elD lloyD t. people. Ask God to morgan help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them”. Prayer to Paul was the first priority the most important thing in the public worship of the church. What happened to prayer in the church? It’s sad to see how prayer has lost its importance in many churches. Someone said that if you announce a banquet, people will come out of the woodwork to attend. But if you announce a prayer meeting you would be lucky if the ushers show up. Not only have the special meetings for prayer lost stature in most local churches, but even
prayer in the public services is greatly minimized. Many churches spend more time on the announcements than they do in prayer! Jesus said “Men ought always to pray and not to faint”. Christians must pray for everyone, that they might be saved. The lesson established that “there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. Sunday was communion Sunday at Union Hope; the communion message was delivered by Pastor Lloyd Morgan from the subject “Remembering the Good Shepherd” John 10:11-15. Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd contrasting him to the false shepherds who were in charge of the Jewish religion of that day. He set himself apart because he reversed the old order where the sheep died for the Shepherd, the Good Shepherd dies for the sheep. He did not die as a martyr, killed by men; he died as a substitute, willingly laying down his life for us. Until next time;be blessed

Black Female Author wins The Matrix Copyright Infringement Case speCial to elite news
T
his little known story has met a just conclusion, as Sophia Stewart, African American author of The Matrix will finally receive her just due from the copyright infringement of her original work!!! A six-year dispute has ended involving Sophia Stewart, the Wachowski Brothers, Joel Silver and Warner Brothers. Stewart’s allegations, involving copyright infringement and racketeering, were received and acknowledged by the Central District of California, Judge Margaret Morrow presiding. Stewart, a New Yorker who has resided in Salt Lake City for the past five years, will recover damages from the films, The Matrix I, II and III, as well as The Terminator and its sequels. She will soon receive one of the biggest payoffs in the history of Hollywood, as the gross receipts of both films and their sequels total over 2.5 billion dollars. Stewart filed her case in 1999, after viewing the Matrix, which she felt had been based on her manuscript, ‘The Third Eye,’ copyrighted in 1981. In the mid-eighties Stewart had submitted her manuscript to an ad placed by the Wachowski Brothers, requesting new sci-fi works. According to court documentation, an FBI investigation discovered that more than
thirty minutes had been edited from the original film, in an attempt to avoid penalties for copyright infringement. The investigation also stated that ‘credible witnesses employed at Warner Brothers came forward, claiming that the executives and lawyers had full knowledge that the work in question did not belong to the Wachowski Brothers.’ These witnesses claimed to have seen Stewart’s original work and that it had been ‘often used during preparation of the motion pictures.’ The defendants tried, on several occasions, to have Stewart’s case dismissed, without success. Stewart has confronted skepticism on all sides, much of which comes from Matrix fans, who are strangely loyal to the Wachowski Brothers. One on-line forum, entitled Matrix Explained has an entire section devoted to Stewart. Some who have researched her history and writings are open to her story. Others are suspicious and mocking. ‘It doesn’t bother me,’ said Stewart in a phone interview last week, ‘I always knew what was true.’ Some fans are unaware of the case or they question its legitimacy, due to the fact that it has received little to no media coverage. Though the case was not made public until October of 2003, Stewart has her own explanation, as quoted at aghettotymz.com:
‘The reason you have not seen any of this in the media is because Warner Brothers parent company is AOL-Time Warner…. this GIANT owns 95 percent of the media… let me give you a clue as to what they own in the media business… New York Times papers/magazines, LA Times papers/magazines, People Magazine, CNN news, Extra, Celebrity Justice, Entertainment Tonight, HBO, New Line Cinema, DreamWorks, Newsweek, Village Roadshow and many, many more! They are not going to report on themselves. They have been suppressing my case for years.’ Fans who have taken Stewart’s allegations seriously, have found eerie mythological parallels, which seem significant in a case that revolves around the highly metaphorical and symbolic Matrix series. Sophia, the Greek goddess of wisdom has been referenced many times in speculation about Stewart. In one book about the Goddess Sophia, it reads, ‘The black goddess is the mistress of web creation spun in her divine matrix.’ Although there have been outside implications as to racial injustice (Stewart is African American), she does not feel that this is the case. ‘This is all about the Benjamins,’ said Stewart. ‘It’s not about money with me. It’s about justice.’ Stewart’s future plans involve a record label, entitled Popsilk Records, and a
motion picture production company, All Eyez On Me, in reference to God. ‘I wrote The Third Eye to wake people up, to remind them why God put them here. There’s more to life than money,’ said Stewart. ‘My whole to the world is about God and good and about choice, about spirituality over ‘technocracy’.’ If Stewart represents spirituality, then she truly has prevailed over the ‘technocracy’ represented in both the Terminator and the Matrix, and now, ironically, by their supposed creators. Stewart is currently having discussions with CBS about a possible exclusive story and has several media engagements in the near future to nationally publicize her victory. June 13th 2004. Sophia Stewart’s press release read: ‘The Matrix & Terminator movie franchises have made world history and have ultimately changed the way people view movies and how Hollywood does business, yet the real truth about the creator and creation of these films continue to elude the masses because the hidden secret of the matter is that these films were created and written by a Black woman…a Black woman named Sophia Stewart. But Hollywood does not want you to know this fact simply because it would change history. Also it would encourage our Black children to realize a dream and that is…nothing is impossible for them to achieve!’

swac – a full week of activities by: JorDan blair The SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) has been around since 1920, and has always been colorful, vibrant and full of life. The SWAC has produced some outstanding athletes and students over the years. This week, the activities are taking place in the Garland Special Events Center, centrally located in the Metroplex with good accessibility, and makes for some good basketball and people watching. But the 8 teams that are competing brought a repertoire of bands, cheerleaders, mascots and dancing girls. The good thing is that SWAC will be here for the next three years at least. The Garland Special Events Center is a great facility that rolled out the red carpet for this event. Each school mined for students and had a chance to show what they had to offer to the Metroplex. Each one of the HBCU’s came with their own flare. This could be the start of
something big for SWAC and the Metroplex. This gives the SWAC and the Metroplex exposure to some of the areas and the State’s HBCU talent and opportunities for higher education. The last time the SWAC was in the Metroplex was back in 1998, and Prairie View A & M won the SWAC championship. It was good to see Alumni of HBCU’s volunteering and working extremely hard to assist and recruit while working throughout the tournament. It is extremely important for the students of the Metroplex to get a chance to see successful HBCU Alumnus up front and personal. As it stands right now, Texas Southern University seems to be poised to win the SWAC tournament on the Men’s side if they can increase their free throw percentage. On the Women’s side, Prairie View A &M and Southern University seem to have what it takes to win the SWAC.

BaRBeRshOp Talk wiTh leON simON January 2010, the outlook for area professional teams was: The Texas Rangers would play 162. Miss the playoffs by 10 games as per usual. The leon simon Dallas Cowboys would be the in the first Super-Bowl at Jerry’s world. That’s achievable as a matter of fact expected. The Dallas Mavericks would lose in the first round of playoffs; achievable, and expected. The Texas Rangers played in the last game of the year in the World Series! The Cowboys followed the economy and went down the tubes. The Dallas Mavericks are coming to the end of the regular season. Earlier I wrote that they were close enough to make that block buster move to get them in the last game of the year. I mentioned a Carmelo Anthony type move. The Mav’s tried to obtain Devin Harris from the New Jersey Nets, knowing the Utah Jazz had a big infatuation for Devin. Then the Mav’s would put together a package that included Devin to get the Colony’s own Deron Williams from the Jazz. That would have been the Carmelo Anthony type move I mentioned. That failed but I’m not sure the Mavericks failed. They got veteran forward and sharp shooter Peja Stojakovic a 12 yr veteran. Peja’s been in the league long enough he won’t be jockeying for time or shots. Peja could get hot and hit 50 any given night. They finally got Roddy Beaubois off the injured list. He could
be the best athlete on the team. Roddy can get hot and hit 50. They picked up a 6’9” Corey Brewer. I don’t think they brought him her to hit 50, they brought him here to keep The Kobe Bryant, and Lebron James types from hitting 50;despite going through a 6or7 game losing streak earlier this season. The Maverick’s are tied with Boston at 45 wins the second best number of wins in the NBA. They lost a tight game at home, to the Memphis Grizzles. I don’t ever think losing is beneficial but sometimes it can be like caffeine and give you a wake up call. We have about 20 games remaining. I believe if the Mavericks stay health they will duplicate what the Rangers did. They will play in the last game played in the NBA this season. I’m one that says: When you get down to the last 4 teams it’s still hard to pick a champion. I didn’t say they would be champions I said they would play in the championship game. I will say they will have a better chance to win that game than the Rangers did. In previous years The Spurs and for sure the Lakers would strike fear in the Mavericks. I don’t believe that team exist anymore that strikes fear in the Mavs. This team is built to play any type game. The half court, the run and gun, any type game they chose or any type game they are forced to play. Forced through foul trouble or what ever. They won’t feel uncomfortable playing any team or style. With a little luck this team could easily be NBA champions. That laugh I hear sounds like the same one the world heard when the Saints won the Bowl.

Dallas hanged 3 Slaves in Civil War Hysteria July 8, 1860. It was the fire that consumed most of downtown Dallas. But Michael Phillips, "White Violence, Hegemony, and Slave Rebellion in Dallas, Texas, before the Civil War quotes people who say it was an accident. Other reported fires around the state didn't really even happen, and some of the "evidence" against the abolitionists was suspect. In 1892, one community leader told the Herald, "We whipped every negro in the county, one by one" in order to get confessions and accusations. In July, a fire burned down most of the business district. Arson was suspected and two abolitionists were run out of town and three slaves, Patrick Jennigsm, Sam Smith, and a slave called "Cato" were hung. The remaining slaves were beaten. The verdict was a divided one. Sam Houston claimed that the fire eaters exploited a series of accidents to whip up the hysteria. Dallas County voted for secession by 76%, but it was only 7 months after the Dallas fire and the hysteria.

The SWAC again extends a special welcome and thank you to the tournament’s title sponsor, Framers Insurance Group. It is through this partnership that the conference is able to provide SWAC fans and teams with what is truly a championship experience. I know I speak for all our constituents what we are grateful for - the commitment Farmers has made to the SWAC collegiate athletics.” The Garland Planning Committee, including Mayor Ronald E. Jones and staff, has been wonderful in helping make this inaugural event at this venue a success. The SWAC owes special thanks to John Wilborn, the Garland Independent School District, and all the people at the Special Events Center for their dedication and desire to make this the best SWAC basketball tournament ever. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and attend some of the events, what are you waiting for? The SWAC tournament will be going on until March 12, 2011.
