some of the Wonders of Prayer. Nothing is more convincing and inspiring than to Court the blessings ofMoments prayer. The Bible is full of Christian cases where prayer became an ingredient which served as healing for body, mind and Spirit. In the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 38 we read of the healing and recovery of Hezekiah. The Lord said “Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die and not live. Then Hezekiah prayed unto the Lord. Then the Lord said unto Hezekiah, I have heard thy prayer and I will add fifteen years to your life. We can see clearly in this case, that “Prayer changes Things. Prayer changes sickness to wellness. Prayer changes death to life. Prayer will move the Hand of God in your favor.

Strange relationships The Lord said to me, "Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes." 2So I bought her for fifteen shekels[a] of silver and about a homer and a lethek[b] of barley.3Then I told her, "You are to live with[c] me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will live with[d] you." 4For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or idol.5Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.” Our relationship with God should
not be weighed by how we relate to the things of God, but how we relate to the person God. So let us stand fast in the relationship that God desires to draw us into. If I were to ask you to rate certain relationships on a scale of 1 – 5, how would they rate? For instance, how would you rate your relationship with your supervisor? On the scale of 1 5, with 1 being poor and 5 being good. How would you rate your relationship with your peers, your co-workers on that same scale? How would you rate your relationship with your spouse, with your children, with your parents, with your siblings? Now you know that I have to ask you, how do you rate your relationship with God based upon who He is rather

than what He has done? Do not rate based on what He has done for you lately, but rather how intimate you are with Him. Drawing close to Him as much as He desires to draw close to you. What is your number 1, 3, or a 5? You have to agree with me that our text this week offers what I have called a strange relationship; the marriage of a prophet and a prostitute. There is a man whose name is Hosea and a woman whose name is Gomer. Hosea was a young preacher in the nation of Israel. Gomer was a young woman living in the land. There is nothing unusual about a man loving a woman enough to want to marry her. There is no mystery when a woman gives her hand to be united to a man until death do them part. But this is an unusual relationship.
This is an abnormal covenant between a man who will be answering a call to God and a woman who would be answering a call to men. Hosea was called to preach, Gomer was called too. The prophet a man of God. The prostitute a woman of the night. The Prophet a lover of one The Prostitute a lover of many. The prophet saved for God. The prostitute estranged from God The prophet a name known in time. The prostitute a name known in town. The prophet who stands up for righteousness. The prostitute who lays down in unrighteousness. Rev. Danny Kirk, Sr. murdered FOREST HILL -- As frantic members of Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church rushed to the church Monday afternoon, they could see a car still embedded in the side of the building. Inside, their pastor, the Rev. Danny Kirk Sr., was dead, fatally beaten with an electric guitar. His assailant, who crashed the car into the church about 11:15 a.m., was caught by police officers as he bashed at Kirk in the church's music room, Police Chief Dan Dennis said. An officer subdued him with a Taser, arrested him and placed him in the back of a patrol car. Later, officers reported finding the attacker dead in the car. Authorities had not released the names of anyone involved in the slaying Monday night, but church members identified Kirk, 53. Late Monday, WFAA/Channel 8 identified the attacker as Derrick Birdow, 33.
Kirk, who stood well over 6 feet tall, was a standout football player at Marlin High School near Waco and at Texas A&MCommerce. He also made it to the Seattle Seahawks' training camp in the early 1980s. But church members remembered him for his uncompromising teaching of Scripture, his ready smile and love for everyone. A "gentle giant," is how Velma Marshall and Valerie Jones, church evangelists, described their pastor. "He had a hug for everyone," assistant minister Claudie Loftin said. "If you came in this church, you got a hug, no matter how long the line was. He was a man of honesty and integrity, and he showed it every day."
Because the attacker died in police custody, Dennis said, Texas Rangers will take the lead in the investigation. The incident began about 11:15 a.m. when the driver of a Mercury Grand Marquis crashed it into a wall of the church, 7312 Forest Hill Drive. He then confronted Kirk. Dennis said initial investigation indicated that the attack moved inside, eventually to the music room, where the attacker grabbed an electric guitar. It was "a weapon of opportunity," Dennis said. The man was still beating Kirk when officers arrived, Dennis said. An officer discharged his Taser at the man, who was later put in the back of a patrol car, Dennis said.
When officers returned to the car, he wasn't breathing, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said. A church maintenance man was injured as he tried to stop the attack and was taken to a hospital, . Dennis said. A church secretary locked herself in a storage closet and was not injured, Dennis said. She called 911. As word of the attack spread, hundreds of church members arrived. One, who is believed to be a relative of the attacker, was overcome when she saw the car, Dennis said. Paramedics treated many griefstricken people. The crowd was not allowed inside -- their church had become a crime scene -- but was directed next door to the Forest Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church, which opened for prayer and counseling. Dennis went there late Monday afternoon to take questions.

TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY COMMISSIONER VISITS DALLAS ISD SCHOOLS Miles invited Williams to join him at 3 campuses Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Mike Miles had a special visitor recently on his regular instructional tours of Dallas ISD schools: Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams. Miles invited the newlyappointed commissioner to tour three Dallas ISD schools: Roosevelt High School, W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy, and Felix Botello Elementary. “It was important to me
that Commissioner Williams get a first-hand look at the quality of instruction in our schools,” said Miles. “A lot of changes are taking place in our schools and I am hopeful that today’s visit will help inform the commissioner of our needs during the next legislative session.” Both the Commissioner and Miles wanted to avoid a rehearsed visit that turns into a media event so the visits were unannounced. Several classrooms were visited and

"We don't have any idea on a motive," he said. "It's way too early to comprehend that." Did police know who the attacker was? "We have a name," he said, adding that the Tarrant County medical examiner's office was working to confirm it. "I'd hate to tell a family that someone has passed and it turns out to be the wrong name." Another person asked whether the Taser caused the man's death. "He was alive, walking around and talking," Dennis said, "so that will be a question for the medical examiner." Someone asked whether Kirk had been shot, saying it was hard to believe he was beaten to death, considering how big he was. "There is no indication he was shot," Dennis said. "As best we can tell, he was beaten with a guitar." How long did it take for officers to arrive? "Three minutes," Dennis said. He expressed his condolences. "I'll be praying for you," he said. "Your loss is my loss." The people responded with applause. State Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, said: "Danny Kirk was very helpful to me when I was first elected to office in 2004. I had one of my very first town hall meetings at his church shortly after I was sworn in to office.

"He was a man of faith who was interested in spreading the word to the community, and he talked to me a lot about golf and LaDainian Tomlinson," he said. "My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and congregation." Former Forest Hill Mayor James Gosey said Kirk was responsible for the church's growth. "You can see what he meant to people by this response," Gosey said. Kirk, who was ordained in 1984, started the church in 1995 in a storefront in a strip shopping center, according to the church's web site. At its current site, the church has more than 850 members and offers a food pantry, a clothing ministry and a scholarship program for students. Members were planning an expansion, largely because of Kirk's leadership. "People wanted to come hear and see him," youth minister Cleveland Starr said. A native of Marlin, Kirk graduated from Marlin High School in 1977 and attended East Texas State University, now called Texas A&M-Commerce. According to the university Hall of Fame website, Kirk was named NAIA second and AP honorable mention All-American as a linebacker. His football career apparently ended in the Seahawks' camp. Loftin said that Kirk loved football, but that once he was called to the ministry, he never looked back.

There is a lot of hard work taking place in Dallas ISD schools.” Instructional visits are a regular part of Miles’ weekly schedule as he assesses the challenges schools face and the
Kirk also worked as a manager at the Pepsi Beverages Co. on Blue Mound Road in Fort Worth. There he mentored management trainee Andre McEwing, who later joined Kirk's congregation in Forest Hill. "I remember I could hear him training, correcting and supporting his staff in whatever they needed to do," McEwing said. "And he always had a Bible on his desk." O.D. Wyatt High School football coach Zachary Criss said Kirk was a regular mentor there. Criss said Kirk didn't try to impress anyone with his own football experience. He was more interested in the kids, and not just the athletes at Wyatt. Criss said Kirk was also active at Dunbar High School. "He wasn't one to toot his own horn,"
progress being made under the Destination 2020 initiatives. So far, the superintendent has been in 63 schools and is on track to visit all 223 schools by the end of the school year. During some of those visits, he has taken other community and education leaders for an up close look at the improvements and transformation taking place in Dallas ISD classrooms.
Criss said. "He was just there to help. We're fortunate to have had him for as long as we did. "We're not the only school hurting today." Members of the Baptist Minister’s Union Rev. George W. Crowns
By Lorie Blair Is a hat just a means to cover up a bad hair day or is there another reason we use them to adorn ourselves? The African American Repertory Theater (AART) opens its 5th season at the DeSoto Corner Theater with a rousing musical play “Crowns”. Crowns is a historical accounting of African American’s adornment of hats. Director Sonya Ewing Andrews and musical director Melanie Bivens with the melodic voices of the casts takes you through the history of hats as seen through the eyes of a young troubled young lady. This play weaves the history of hats with the field songs from the 1800’s, traditional gospel, and rap with actors Catherine Whiteman, Natalie King, Ebony Marshall, Kenneisha
Thompson, Malcom Beaty, Tommy King, Liz Francisco and Ardina Lockhart. It educates and entertains on the right attitude we must have when wearing a hat, the importance of the brim size to the tilt of our hats. But the harmony and the ease in which the cast shares
their songs are worth the trip to see this play. Crowns will run through Sunday, November 18th at the DeSoto Corner Theater 211 E Pleasant Run, DeSoto, TX . The Friday
and Saturday evenings shows are at 7:30pm while the Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2:30pm. From young to those well seasoned take the time to see this well produced play. To purchase your ticket visit the AART website at www.aareptheater. com, or call (972) 5720998. AART produces engaging, culturally diverse theater, while educating the community on African American history and the arts. You won’t be disappointed.
Just a Bite with Lorie at Nagoya Japanese Restaurant L th p A so w ta a ta eat
By Lorie Blair
I am a fan of Hibachi style Japanese cuisine. You know the kind that seats several at a common Lorie table where all dishes are prepared at your table. I like the show from the chef as he prepares each dish and the ability to see how each dish is prepared. When I need my Hibachi fix I usually go up to Las Colinas for my immersion in this Japanese cuisine. Going to Las Colinas is limiting so I was pleased to know that there was a place in Arlington that offered the same style and possibly the same flavor within the southern area of the Metroplex. I have driven by this restaurant for years and always bypassed it until this week. I was told that they were comparable in price as well as in taste so I had to and see if what I heard was true. I went for lunch and was surprised that I had a choice. I could sit at a private table and have my meal prepared in the kitchen
or Hibachi style. I decided on the Hibachi style; shrimp and scallops, streamed rice and vegetables. My meal came with soup and salad first then the main dish. My table mates had the fried rice so I got to watch as the chef prepared their fried rice. Quite similar to what I once use to make years ago only they have a flavored butter that is amazing. I can’t tell you what is in it but it is used on everything and is wonderfully flavorful. You are provided two sauces to dip your food in, one a nice ginger sauce and the other is a light cream sauce. Both serve well with the rice, meat and vegetables. They offer desert but my table was not offered anything. To round out my Just a Bite of Hibachi fix I sure could have used some green tea ice cream. Maybe next time I will be offered my desert. DONUTS FOR DADS

On October 26, 2012, Ronald E. McNair celebrated its 13th Annual Donuts for Dads program. It was a great success! There were nearly 150 dads, granddads, uncles and older brothers come out to support their students. Nate St. Clair II, of Jones Day Law Firm, addressed the crowd with an exciting message
charging fathers to help their children visualize their future opportunities. He informed them that the possibilities are endless now more than ever before. Shelby Bowens-McDade, school counselor, has been hosting this program for the entire 13 years and is extremely pleased with this year’s turnout. She looks forward to an even bigger celebration next year.

Ask Dr. Hollie Dear Dr. Hollie, I have been dating this new guy for about 4 months. Before him, I was in a relationship with a man for three years. That man cheated on me twice that I know of, and I eventually decided that I had had enough. We were broken up a couple months before I met the new guy, but he continued to contact me wanting me back. Eventually I got to the point where I could have a conversation with him, but I made it clear that we would never be together again. So, now the new guy…. We’ve been good together. We are taking things slowly, trying to get to know each other. Well, we were at his house last week sitting on the couch watching a movie. A text message came through on my phone. Without even thinking about it, I opened up the text. It was an inappropriate text from my exboyfriend. Sitting so close together, of course he saw it. He freaked. Before I could even say anything, he started accusing me of cheating, and all kinds of crazy stuff. I told him that nothing was going on, and that it wasn’t my fault that the fool had texted
some mess to my phone. The angrier he got, the angrier I got and I let him know he was blowing this way out of proportion. So then he was all kinds of stupid you-know-what’s and dumb so-an-so’s. So now I don’t know where we are in our relationship. We can be on the phone talking nicely, then he’ll bring up the incident and we’re fighting again. My friend tells me that I handled the whole thing wrong from the beginning, and that I should see it from his angle. He’s a good guy, but I’m about to call it quits because I think he is making a big deal out of nothing. Please tell me what you think. I’m Right, He’s Wrong Dear I’m Right, He’s Wrong, Your signature alone bothers me because in a relationship, we do not have to compete with who is right and who is wrong. What I think happened is that you purposely opened the text hoping to get a response from your boyfriend, and it backfired. So, I say now, try to recover your current relationship, especially since you say he is a good guy. Good Luck! Dr. Hollie is a Pastor and practicing psychotherapist in the city. Clergy says: The serial rapist will be caught Police welcome community support and media attention
By Joseph E. Green-Bishop A violently sadistic and overweight rapist has been assaulting women in the Dallas area for nearly two years and area clergy are calling for a massive campaign to bring the violent offender to justice. Many of the women being attacked are members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, whose members the rapist seems to be familiar with, according to police and members of the sorority. At least four members of the Deltas have been attacked in their homes in the Dallas area. The rapist even called one of his victims from a pay phone after the attack to inquire as to whether she was “okay,” according to police. Some women in the organization are living in a state of terror, afraid to leave their home and unsure if they are safe havens when they return to them. Members of the faith community are outraged with the actions of the rapist who they say will soon be caught by area authorities who have a picture of him and have samples of his DNA. “We are going to put the word out about this man and his despicable behavior,” said Reverend Dedrick Jennings, the former pastor of a church in Denton and owner of the Sacred Funeral Home located on Lancaster Road in Oak Cliff. “The fact of the matter is that God will bring his acts done in the darkness to the light,” Reverend Jennings said. “This man has a mother and perhaps has sisters, and how would he feel if someone were raping those women who are close to him. It is just a matter of time before the law catches up with him and he receives the punishment that he deserves.” Some members of the clergy are calling for a greater participation by members of the church community in the judicial and criminal justice process to punish people like the rapist. “This type of behavior cannot be tolerated,” said Dr. Corey C. Toney
Sr., an area business owner and nondenominational preacher and minister. “Once this individual is caught he should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. People like him harm our community, which is already wounded.” Reverend Charles Lightner, pastor of the New Comforter Church of God
Video footage of suspect In Christ called the actions of the rapist a tragedy that the community should not endure. “We must address what he is doing,” Pastor Lightner said. “His actions have affected the members of the sorority and members of our congregation who know them and work with them. He will not be allowed to terrorize us. He will be caught and he will be brought to justice.” Police officials said that the rapist seems to have personal knowledge about his victims. “The attacks are not random,” said Coppell police official Matthew Kosec. “We are taking this very seriously.” ”Many of us believe that this man is sick and may have a vendetta against the Deltas,” said Journalist Cheryl Smith, a 35- year member of the Sorority. “Look at what other communities do when they are under
attack. We must do more. This guy could be caught if the community was in an uproar.” As the organization prepares to celebrate its centennial next year, there are so many other stories that need to be focused on. Boasting a membership that includes economist Dr. Julianne Malveaux,
our members are being targeted is disturbing and extremely disheartening,” said Cynthia M. A. Butler-McIntyre, the Delta’s national president. “Our primary concern has been the safety of our members.” Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson also epressed outrage over the assaults and held a community forum addressing the assault on women. She said she also reached out offering support to President Butler-McIntyre, as did other leaders of organizations. According to police officers involved with the case, the media attention, most recently from NBC 5’s Randy McIlwain, and previously from others, including former CW 33 reporter Giselle Phelps, who broke the story, as well as coverage in Ms. Smith’s publications, is helpful. “If we don’t get this guy caught and the media attention winds up dropping down on this there’s going to be a lot more opportunity for him to actually commit the offense because a lot of people will be letting their guard down,” Officer David Tilley, of Plano’s Police Department told reporters. There is a $5,000 reward being offered by Crime Stoppers. The case was also featured on America’s Most Wanted.
