Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)
FORD EXPEDITION-KING RANCH 4 X 4 Funny how time flies when you are having fun it didn’t seem as if we had the new Ford Expedition-King Ranch edition for a full week. My mind goes back to the first year Ford named the vehicle for the King Ranch in Texas a few years back. Fully equipped with a leather interior layout that rival that of one of the best Stage Coaches of the old West. We are really impressed with the deep rich red leather seats and the insigna (King Ranch) engraved on it just sets the stage for quality at its best. Inside you are greeted with front bucket seats with a roomy console as well as a simply and easily functional instrument cluster with full gauges and easily operational knobs. The back-up camera comes on automatically once you shift to reverse and automatically goes back to the touch screen for N avigation or radio
and stereo controls once you come out of reverse. That makes if simply and requires no action on the driver’s part when changing direction. Let us not forget we are talking about an 8-passenger vehicle here. With folding flat third row seats the Expedition has the most room in class. Yet it still fits into the garage with a little room to spare. Under the hood is proven 5.4 Liter 3-valve-SOHC V8 engine that cranks out 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highway. The engine is matted to a 6-speed automatic transmission allowing for smooth shifting. Power meets the pavement on 20-inch premium painted aluminum wheels circulating a set of P 275/55R 20 All season tires.
We are talking about a smooth ride to say the least. A chrome grille greets you first and the power fold heated mirrors with signal indicators really set the vehicle off. Warranty is 3-year/36,000 bumper to bumper with 5year/60,000 power train and 5year/60,000 road side assist. Our test vehicle came with load leveling suspension and head rest entertainment system and power deploying running boards. All this with a power moon roof and our price tag came in at just over $56000.

FORD FIESTA SES FIVE-DOOR HATCH A BIG HIT By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the 2011 model year rolls forward we are happy to be reporting on the all-new Ford Fiesta SES. Our test car this time around came in the model of the SES five-door hatch. With surprising amount of room in the back the new Fiesta is certainly going to push for some space the crowded compact automobile market. But we also notice the European styling of the new fiesta that included a wider stance and a more athletic looking build. Power comes from a1.8 Liter Duratec DOHC I-line
4 cylinder that produces 29 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway. Once again we did not have to add fuel all during our week long test run. Power comes thrusting to the pavement on 16-inch painted aluminum wheels and the vehicle even has an easy fuel cap less filler. That’s something you are seeing more of these days.
Some of the interior features include 1-touch up and down driver window. Plus the sounds come in clearly from AM/FM Premium sound system with single CD/MP3 with 6 speakers. A leather wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls gives you a racecar like feel. The Sync Voice Activated system makes listening to your favorite songs a pleasure and
throw in Sirius Sat radio. The message center had trip computer and ambient lighting makes reading your gauges a breeze. For a small vehicle the new Fiesta SES also has driver and passenger air bags and driver knew air bags along with side air bags and curtains. Rounding out with child safety rear door locks and security anti-theft and engine immobilizier, the Fiesta
is safety sound. Let me remind you that all this comes with a price tag of around $19700. When you throw in the fact it has 33 miles per gallon rounded off, what more could you want. Once again we must say that the American automakers are stepping up to the plate and building quality and affordable products again!
Out front you notice right off the bat with driving lamp with chrome bezel and a rear spoiler highlights the rear end of this stylistic vehicle.

FORD EDGE SEL VERY AFFORDABLE MID-SIZE CROSS OVER SUV
The 2011 Ford Edge SEL AWD By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View When it comes to mid-size Crossover vehicles the Ford Edge SEL is very affordable. Fact is our test vehicle came pretty well equipped and came in at just over $31000. To start with the unit has a 3.5 Liter TIVCT V6 engine that produces 19 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway. The engine teams with a six-speed automatic transmission and blend very well with the Kona Blue Metallic paint job. Fact is people were asking me all week long what color was that dark rich looking blue. Power rolls smoothly to the ground on 18 inch painted aluminum wheels wrapped with performance all-season tires. Inside passengers were greeted to premium cloth bucket seats and six-way driver power seat. The second row seats are 60/40 and easy fold remote release. Sounds are provided by an AM/FM single CD/MP3 with 6speakers and Sirius SAT radio. A dual zone electronic temperature control and 5-way switch cluster center as well as tilt/ telescopic steering wheel column. Let me make it clear they are making it as comfortable as possible for the driver. The greenhouse effects of the front windshield provides a great view of your surroundings, fact is it almost like driving a space ship. Equipped with an 18 gallon fuel tank the Edge did not need refueling during our week long test drive.
Safety features include fourwheel disc brakes with ABS and advance trac with RSC. Inside you have side air bags/safety canopy and side impact door beams to name a few. Child seat tether anchor and tire pressure monitor system rounds out the safety attributes of the new Ford Edge. In closing please allow me to add the new Edge also has integrated key fob and MYKEY technology.

THE EXCITINGLY NEW CHEVY CRUZE LTZ
By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the 2011 model year hits full swing, we are happy to be reporting on the new Chevrolet Cruze LTZ. Clearly its one of the best built GM small cars of all times. The new entry level model we tested has a fiveyear/100,000 mile power train limited warranty. Power comes from a 1.4L ecotex engine with DOHC four cylinder turbo power. It cranks out 24 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. This is 138 horsepower with a six speed automatic transmission with smooth shifting and good power to move in and out of freeway traffic. With stable footing the new Cruze LTZ is certainly built to perform as well as look good standing still. The aggressive grille up front with racecar like air dams makes you want to get down on it. Those 138 horses are willing and able to do the work and still get good quality mileage. Power rolls to the pavement o n 18-inch flangeless double five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped by a set of performance tires.
Speaking of space, the interior was another strong point for the Cruze with plenty of room and the stylist layout catches your eyes right off the bat. A Pioneer premium audio system with CD player as well as AM/FM stereo gives you quality sounds for the vehicle riders. Throw in XM radio service and three months Sirius and Bluetooth for phone and you have a real deal.
In addition to its good looks the Cruze has also received a fivestar rating when it comes to safety and even though it’s listed as a compact, the Cruze has the space of the midsize car. Other safety features include fourwheel disc brakes and power operated rear door locks. Air bags for driver and front passenger as well as passenger frontal knee, side impact and head curtain along with rear outboard passenger side impact and head curtains.
Let us not forget the new Cruze has 45% of its parts from the United States and Canada but 15% from Mexico and 19% of the vehicle is from Austria. Lordstown, Ohio is the final assembly point for the Cruze while the engine is from Austria and the transmission is from Mexico.
The driver is able to fit the power seat adjustable six-way to their liking. The visors for driver and front passenger are equipped with illuminated vanity mirrors. The inside rear view mirror is equipped with auto dimming feature. With leather wrapped steering wheel the handling has a race like flare to it. The wheel also has audio controls as well as climate controls so the driver never has to take their hands off the wheel. With a leather wrapped shift knob your minds go back to racecar style. Such features as heated front seats rounds out some of the reasons at a little more than $24,000 loaded, this is such an outstanding buy.
In closing please allow me to add the power sun roof completes the packages of options that make this such a great buy!

In The Love Corner By Stevie T Hey Houston, spring is in the air, and that comes with rain, time change, and lots of love. There are a lot of wedding vows being spat the next couple of months. Congratulations to Jill Perry and Mark Cruces making their special date in June. Actually I gave them a shout out over a year ago when they got engaged, and they did follow through (yea!). If you know anyone getting married anytime soon, write me and let me know. The date you get married is probably one of the most important dates and sometimes the most forgotten when it comes to remembering anniversary dates. It would seem it would be the most important date to remember in this corporation of love. As you get out of the newlywed stage, you will find that it’s the little things that will hold everything together. Wouldn’t

MARRIAGE BUSINESS
it be nice if we could stay in the newlywed state, flowers every week, dinner being cooked every night, love making every night? Back up, does that really happen? How long did the magic last after your wedding? Is there any magic left? How do you get the magic back? A lot of times we really don’t know the person we are supposed to spend the rest of our lives with until we live with them. There are a lot of factors that cause changes in the newlywed state after the wow factor wears off. Let’s look at the three F’s. There is family, that can cause lots of problems; there are friends that can but in; and there are the finances that reek havoc on our newly formed corporation. Oh yeah when I say corporation that means marriage really has to be treated like a business. It has to be maintained 24/7, you must love or at least like what you do, and financially you make a long term investment and hope your market doesn’t crash, so you can both profit from it. A marriage and a business are similar in lot aspects. And if you look up
the word marriage in the dictionary you will see that it also means a good business deal. Of course we would like for our marriages to keep that newlywed state, but in reality there are too many factors in this imperfect world that won’t allow us the privilege of doing that. Some businesses succeed, some fail. I need some good testimonies about your marriage. If everything is good in your corporation, write me and send it to 5011 Almeda, Houston Texas 77004 or you can call in on Wednesdays at 8pm when Carletta Shepard and I discuss relationships and love lives on KCOH 1430AM. That phone number is 713-526-1430. If you missed the big Valentine show at Café 4212, be on the lookout for a big April bash celebrating Carletta’s and The Blackberry’s birthday and all the Aires of Houston. If you are celebrating an anniversary during that time come out and celebrate with us I guarantee it will be a special night. The top five love songs of the month are 1 Here and Now Luther Van Dross 2 Over the Rainbow
Miss Patti Labelle 3 Love me in a Special Way El De Barge 4 Gloria Enchantment and 5 Practice What you Preach Barry White. Once again our Restaurant of the Month goes to It’s Just Good Breakfast and Soul Food Restaurant located at 4331 OST, where they do it like Grandma used to do it. Stop by and say hi to Larry and China and ask for that Stevie T love platter. They will put a little extra love in it, and help make your day. And my video pick for this month is Not Easily Broken with Morris Chestnutt, it is about marriage and how family can tear it apart. And my book pick of the month is “No Strings Attached” by Shelby Morrison who was recently on my show, check it out. So until next time keep a little love in your heart, the look of love in your eyes, and don’t let a day go by without letting someone know you love them — even if that someone is you.
THIS YOU NEED TO KNOW By Paris Eley YOU CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE In today’s world of global positioning systems (GPS), MapQuest, and cell phone communication, it may seem a gross exaggeration to some, when I write that there was a time when people used to say “You can’t get there from here.” Automobiles were a relatively new invention and far less ubiquitous than they are today. Occasionally, a big city relative with a brand new car would get the urge to visit relatives located in a small town. Without the freeways, service stations, and modern travel aids, wrong advice could easily add hours to an already long and tiring trip; relying on maps that were not very detailed, they sometimes took wrong turns that put them in out of the way communities, where their hopes rested on finding a friendly stranger who had heard of their destination, and even better, was willing to direct them there. Humorous stories abound(most probably fictional) of stranded motorists who are said to have been driven to their wits end by a slow- talking, dirt-kicking stranger, who looked around in every direction for what seemed like an eternity, only to announce: “You can’t get there from here.” It was a sure-fire punch line, guaranteed to get a laugh. None of the stories that I heard ever suggested that people turned around and went back home. Most drivers knew instinctively that there was a route to get them to their destination. Today, such stories are rarely heard, and they would certainly sound ridiculous in a time when people are traveling to the moon. Listening to such advice, driver and passengers would have been doomed to returning home in disappointment, or pushing on in frustration at considerable cost and time. Here is where you come in. You are the driver of your vehicle. It is called your life, and at a certain time you are given permission, within certain guidelines, to operate it as you see fit. There are too many of them who have convinced themselves that they cannot get to where they want to go from where they are. Even more to the point, they think that they cannot get to where they want to go because of where they are. Somewhere during your journey it is likely that you will have doubts about which path to take. It is then that you are most vulnerable to believing that your destination is so distant, and so obscure that you will not get there because of where you are. Pay them no mind; there is much to see on this journey and much to be done by and for you. The truth is that you are in a great place. Go, enjoy the adventure, and above all, drive safely!

BLOOD ON GERMAN SNOW A BOOK REVIEW BY JOHN ENGEL
Out and About with John Engel “Blood on German Snow” subtitles “An African American Artilleryman in World War II and Beyond” is by far one of the most interesting historical books I have ever read. It is the story of Emiel W. Owens and his journey form the fields around Smithville, Texas to the battle in Germany during World War II and his life after the war. Although a fairly short book, this book is very long on facts and told in a way that makes if very difficult to put down. Owens begins with his experiences in a town that was literally divided in to black and white and separated by the railroad tracks. I must be honest here; I grew up in the north (Detroit, specifically) and saw plenty of racism in my life but never experienced segregation. In the 20’s and 30’s there was no shortage of serration in the deep south. In spite of the difficulties he faces, Emiel was able to graduate from Smithville Colored High School as the class valedictorian. The Army was no different. In
Page 7
world that has never been exposed to racial diversity.
1943 Owens joined the Army, following his two brothers, and was assigned to an artillery battery. He later became crew chief of his battery. They trained on the new 4.5 inch guns. These are weapons that are mounted on trailers and towed by a prime mover, a tracked and armored vehicle. The 4.5 inch gun is capable of delivering a 55 pound projectile over 15 miles. It was the weapon of choice to defeat Hitler and the Germans on their own soil. The story follows Owens training and later deployment to Europe where he landed in France and later marched to Germany. During his travels, Emiel was injured and sent to a field hospital. He was diagnosed with ligament damage to his knee but insisted on rejoining his unit. The book chronicles his travels with his unit through France and into Germany. The story follows his unit’s successes and goes into great detail about both his military experience and his experiences as a black man in a
The war experience ends with the defeat of the German army and his successful return to America. After the war, Owens completed his education at Prairie View A & M University and married Hattie Balfour. He went on to receive his Ph.D. at Ohio State University and
became a professor. He later was recruited to travel to Liberia, West Africa to develop an academic institution in the tribal village of Kakata. Emiel Owen has lived an exceptional live and managed to succeed at every step. He is a truly inspirational person and his story is fascinating.
If you would like to read this book, it is available from the Harris County Public Library, now and used copies are available from amazon.com and it can be ordered from the Texas A & M University Press at www.tamupress.com. I was not able to locate the book in the Houston Public Library catalog or find it on digital media.

TORMENTED! WARNING.....WARNING.....WARNING Dear reader as always, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the preponderance of scriptures; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of scripture. Again we believe this allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Again, thank you so much for your interest in the WORD of TRUTH; GRACE and SALVATION; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP to HEAVEN and away from HELL! Beware of the doctrine of the prudent, concerning HELL! The doctrine that teaches HELL IS ONLY A SEPARATION FROM GOD. If they are right, then hell wouldn be all that painful. There are many people on this earth today, that are separated from God through the disobedience and or disbelief of Christ, through his apostles (see Matt.7:13-29; John 17:17-22; Acts 2:41-42; 2Pet.3:1-3; 1John4:5-6; Jude1:17-19) and there are no complaints of pain and suffering. There are even those that say they don believe there is a God, and there is no weeping or gnashing of teeth. But, rather they are Dressing well, Driving well, and Living well. Surely, Hell must be more than just separation from God. What if the prudent ones are wrong and Hell is simply what the bible says it is? What a Terrible, Fearful, Judgment in the last Day for the prudent and those that believe them. The Lord warns us of the Prudent / Intelligent through his Word, let first look at some scriptures dealing with the prudent. Then, look into the simple word of God to see what He has to say about His Hell. After reading the following scriptures pertaining to the Prudent, the Wise, which is the Intelligent in this world, one might began to think as I have learned to think, Keep it Simple Stupid; in other words, become a fool in this world, so that I might become wise in The Lord. When God hides something who can find it? PLEASE READ: The Prudent, The Intelligent, The Wise In This World. Matt 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee,
O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the (1)wise and (2)prudent, and (3)hast revealed them unto (4)babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. (see also Luke 10:21) (KJV) Definitions: (1)wise-4680 sophos-wise: a) skilled, expert: of artificers b) wise, skilled in letters, cultivated, learned (2)prudent-4908 sunetos (soonet’-os); from 4920; mentally put (or putting) together, i.e. sagacious, intelligent, wise, learned: KJV— prudent. Compare 5429. (3)hast revealed them-601 apokalupto (ap-ok-al-oop’-to); from 575 and 2572; to take off the cover, i.e. disclose, 1) to uncover, to lay open what has been veiled or covered up, to disclose, to make bare 2) to make known, to make manifest, to disclose what before was unknown: KJV— reveal. (4) unto babes -3516 nepios (nay’-pee-os); not speaking, i.e. an infant (minor); figuratively, a simple-minded person, an immature Christian: KJV— babe, child (+-ish). 1 Cor 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?(KJV) 1 Cor 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your (1)calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of
God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.(KJV) Definition: (1)calling-2821 klesis (klay’-sis); an invitation (figuratively): KJV— calling. 1 Cor 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:(KJV) 1 Cor 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:(KJV) 1 Cor 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.(KJV) 2 Cor 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s. 8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: 9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. 10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily pres-
ence is weak, and his speech (1)contemptible. 11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. (see also the 11th chapter, verses 6&7)(KJV) Definition: (1)contemptible1848 exoutheneo;KJV— contemptible, to despise utterly, least esteemed, set at nought. Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,(KJV) Now let read what GOD, through the prophets, Christ and his apostles, has to say in scripture, about His HELL! Isa 33:13 Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. 14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the (1)devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? 15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; 16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. 17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off. TORMENTED! WARNING.....WARNING.....WARNING Definitions: of HELL used in THE NEW TESTAMENT. HELL-1067 geena (gheh’-ennah); of Hebrew origin [1516 and 2011]; valley of (the son of) Hinnom; ge-henna (or GeHinnom), a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment: (Matt.5:22-30, Matt.10:28, Matt. 18:9, Matt. 23:15&33, Mark 9:43-47, Luke 12:5 and James 3:6) KJV— hell.Hell is the place of the future punishment call “Gehenna” or “Gehenna of fire“. This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem, where the filth and dead animals of the city were cast out and burned; a fit symbol of the wicked and their future destruction. HELL-86 haides (hah’-dace); from 1 (as negative particle) and 1492; properly, unseen, i.e. “Hades” or the place (state) of departed souls: (Matt. 11:23 & 16:18, Luke 10:15 & 16:23, Acts 2:27&31, Rev.1:18; 6:8; 20:13&14) KJV— grave, hell.the nether world, the realm of the dead, the later use of this word: the grave, death, hell In Biblical Greek it is associated with Orcus, the infernal regions, a dark and dismal place in the very depths of the earth, the common receptacle of disembodied spirits. HELL-5020 tartaroo (tar-taro’-o); from Tartaros (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment: KJV— cast down to hell.(2Peter 2:4) the name of the subterranean region, doleful and dark, regarded by the ancient Greeks as the abode of the wicked dead, where they suffer punishment for their evil deeds; it answers to Gehenna of the Jews 2) to thrust down to Tartarus, to hold captive in Tartarus (2Peter 2:4) Definitions: of TORMENT TORME TED-928 basanizo (bas-an-id’-zo); from 931; to torture: KJV— pain, toil, torment, toss, vex.3) torture, torment, acute pains a) used of the pains of a disease b) used of those in hell after death (Matt. 4:24, Luke 16:23&28)
the topic HELL, and our state in it has been made more scripturally clear. Remember, the purpose of these articles is to share with you scriptural truths, thereby exposing error by finding through scripture, hat Is Truth? (John 17:14-17). The alternative which is Eternal Life with the Lord, is what every man wants. But we must suffer (1Pet.4:1-6) to be obedient, hear upon this earth as Sojourners, in FEAR (1Pet. 1:17) and as Strangers and Pilgrims, (1Pet. 2:11) keeping ourselves Unspotted from the World (James 1:27). This then would make us a Peculiar People (1Pet. 2:9), just as our Lord Jesus and those that followed him was. This would also make us the little ones (Luke 6:27-37), (Christians / followers of Christ), loving not the world, neither the things that are in it (John 12:25-26; 1John 2:1516)! For us to hold to the mind that was in Christ Jesus (Philip.2:3-8), it will take much suffering, thereby helping us to cease from SI (1Pet. 4:1&6) and to gain Eternal Life in HEAVE . Now, if we scripturally understand Hell, we should also understand why so many tears were shed by those before us. When is the last time you wept about a suffering lifestyle or a Lost soul? Luke 19:39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. 41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, 42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.(KJV) John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 if any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.(KJV)
TORME TED-2558 kakoucheo (kak-oo-kheh’-o); from a presumed compound of 2556 and 2192; to maltreat: KJV— which suffer adversity, torment.(Hebrews 11:37)
Acts 20:18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, 19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:(KJV)
We hope through definitions and the preponderance of scripture,
Acts 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking
perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.(KJV) Rom 9:1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, 2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:(KJV) Rom 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.(KJV) 2 Cor 2:4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. 2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.(KJV) 2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the (1)righteous (2)scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.(KJV) (1)Righteous 1342 dikaiosrighteous, observing divine laws a) in a wide sense, upright, righteous, virtuous, keeping the commands of God . REDRICK SHINES AS THE 60TH RUNNING OF THE TSU RELAY UNFOLDS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View With more than 175 teams present the 60th Running of the TSU Relays took shape. Before a packed house at the Alexander Durley Complete, TSU sprinter Philip Redrick exploded and gave new meaning to the words flying Tigers. Despite a pretty strong head wind, Philip Redrick bolted to run a 10.66 and take the men’s 100 meters dash and Brent Lee of Jackson state came in second in a time of 11.04. Redrick led the Tigers relay team to a time of 1.25.01 in the 4 by 200 meters and came back and took the 4 by 400 in a time of 3.12.35. Assisted by Clift Swift, Arte Collins, and Vincile Williams in the 4 by 200 and with Collins, Michael Holman and Jeffery Lacroix in the 4 by 400 meters Redrick felt pretty
good about his performances. “I didn’t get out of the block like I wanted to and the wind hurt me a bit, but I just had to run through it”. The talented performer brought back memories of some of TSU’s all-time great with his showing. “Really sir I think I’m ahead of schedule because having won the SWAC 60 meters, I feel real good about running the 100 meters”. The youngster said before the season is over he can see himself running in the 10.0s and possibly the best in the nation”. It was a little cool and the wind was certainly strong but it did not bother the talented youngster at all. “Those are part of the things that goes with running track, the cool weather is fine because it makes you work to work up a sweat and the wind pushed us out there today.
In other men actions Debodrick Walton of Jackson State won the 200 meters in a time of 22.31 and the 400 in a time of 47.62. Stephone Leaks won the 800 meters in a time of1.54 and Grambling’s Darwin Price won the 1500 meters in a time of3.53.60. By that time the hurdles were up and Prairie View’s William Donelson took the 110 high hurdles in a time of 14.84 and the 400 in a time of 53.29 for the sweep. Grambling State came back and took the 4 by 100 Men’s relay in a time of 40.86 as TSU claimed second place in a time of 40.90. The Panthers clawed to the title in the triple jump with Preston Woodard leaping 50 feet 4 point 75 inches to take the title. This also rounded out an outstanding day for the TSU and PV Men at the relays. Looking over to the women side of the 60th Running of the TSU Relays Santana Lowery of Houton Tillotson rolled to a first
place in the 100 meters with a time of 12 flat. In the 200 meters it was Raina Sarden of Jackson State in a time of 24.86 and Jazzin Sims of Southern University came in second with a 25.06. Jessica Whitt of Houston Baptist University claimed the 1500 meters in a time of 4.46.48. The Women 100 hurdles went to Bridgot Ugoh of Rice in a time of 14.93. In the women 4 by 100 meters it was Alabama State doing their thing in a time of 46.03 and they also took the 4 by 200 meters with a 1.36.86. Grambling women took the 4 by 400 meter relay in a time of 3.43.99. This all made for some balance in the women division much like it was for the men. In the high school boys division Sherrod Evans of Dulles won the open quarter in a time of 48.88 barely beating the kid from Desoto who you will hear from again at the state. North Shore’s Jaylon Hicks exploded to take both the 100 and 200 meters and you can read more
about him in the Fiesta Athlete of the week. In the mile relay it was AldineNimitz in a time of 3.19.21 and De Soto got second at 3.19.28 while Alief Elsik got third in a time of 3.19.93. The boys 4 by 100 meters went to Fort Bend Hightower in a tie of 41.73 and Elsik got second. The hurdles went to Kenneth Minkah of DeSoto with a 14.17 in the 110 hurdles and took the 300 in 37.66 for the sweep. But Kashmere’s Michael Prejean got second place. In the boys 200 meters you had to notice Jermaine Authorlee ran a 21.65 to win it as Clyde Alee of Fort Bend Hightower got second and Leroy Harris of Jack Yates got third. From the opening ceremonies until the final gun sounded my mind was on the late James Patrick Green who passed away last year and how many times he was the official starter for this meet. We miss you James and may your soul rest in peace!

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
REBA DIANE DUNN
MISSOURI CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View This time we have a pleasant 8th grader to profile in our long list of Fiesta Students of the week. She’s Reba Diane Dunn the charming and talented daughter of Tina and Richard Dunn and is holding a 3.8 G.P.A. She has a love for ELA (English Language Arts) in the class room and spending time playing all girls sports at Missouri City Middle School.
It was at the 60th Annual Running of the TSU Relays we spotted Dunn along with Lagae Brigance, Brooke Prier and Jamika Broussard running in the relays. Following the instructions of coaches Maxine Hogan and Myra Brady, Dunn has a lot of potential in athletics. But she loves literary arts and says having a chance to speak on several subjects is pleasing to her. In addition to volleyball, basketball and running track Dunn has
When asked about the school spirit at Missouri City Middle, Dunn feels they are about a 9 on scale of 1 to 10. “We could use some more activities to get the student body more involved”. Other than that Reba says the school is fine from administration point of view. She went on to say she feels pretty good about her life so far and if she had it to live over again she would not change anything other than easing up on the dress code a bit. Describing herself as a hard working little girl, who is fun to be around, but she also is a focused young person. Crediting her sister (Aravia Dunn) with being her most driving force outside from her par-

ent, Reba says she noticed the response her sister got from making good grades and it made her study harder so she too can have good grades. Excited to see Barack Obama become our nation’s first African American President, Reba says it goes to show you can be what you want to be these days. When asked about the problems in Libya, Reba says she thinks the United States should remain neutral in the Middle East affairs. Hoping to get to Fort Bend Marshall and follow in the footsteps of the great quarter miler Brandi Cross, Reba says it will be great to be able to set records on the high school level. In closing Reba added that will lead to her getting a full scholarship and getting into a major college and getting a degree!

INDIA DANIELS - SPRING-WESTFIELD JAYLON HICKS - NORTH SHORE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK INDIA DANIELS Please don’t let the pretty smile fool you India Daniels of Spring Westfield is one tough cookie on the track. The lovely and talented junior blasted to the girls’ 100 meter title in a time of 12.26 and came back and took the 200 meters race in a time of 24.61. But the defending state champion says there is more where that came from. “Sir I truly need to work on my start and I feel I haven’t finished strong as I could have so far this year.
boys 100 meters title at the 60th Running of the TSU Relays. Clocked at10.71 this keeps Hicks unbeaten and it looks like he just might go all the way to state with a perfect mark. We spoke with him just as he crossed the finished line before a packed house at the Alexander Durley Sports complex. “Yes sir I knew with the win being so tough today I needed to get out the blocks real good to have a shot to win it”. With only 1 more meet before district action gets underway Hicks is still unbeaten. “I guess you could say I’m undefeated and I feel pretty good if I continue to work hard I’ll have a good shot to get back to state”.
Hicks went on to say he certainly feels some of the toughest competition came at the TSU Relays. “So far pretty much if you can win this meet, you have beaten the best that Houston had to offer”. But Hicks understands he can even be better if he works hard and follow his coaches’ instructions. “I think I can go 10.01 if I keep at it and I certainly feel I can top my PR (10.50) before the season is done. We feel Hicks can get to 10.00 flat if he works hard because he simply blew away the field at the TSU Relays and lord knows you have to be smoking to do that.

Lord knows if she can be a better starter and a better closer, there’s no telling how good she is going to be at the end. “I had a really bad start and because of the win I had to really dig in at the end”. The junior went on to say she simply just get focus, Pray and run allowing God to guide her. As we talked more with Daniels we learned she says a little prayer before she gets into the blocks and then relies on the spirit to guide her through the race. “I truly believe I can be better if I continue to work hard”. We certainly believe before her high school career is over Daniels is going to break records in numbers!

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK JOSHUA DUMAS - F.B.HIGHTOWER By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View When the Ford Bend Hightower Hurricanes faced Fort Bend Travis in the finals of the Region III Class 5A tournament it was the fourth time the two teams met. Travis had won the previous three but the Canes were not to be denied. Using a tough defense around the basket made it tough for Travis to use their height advantage and get easy shots this time around. Thanks to the outstanding defensive play of Joshua Dumas and Danuel House along with Marshun Meadow, the Canes contested every shot and literally made it tough to get points for Travis. Even the play of guards Johnathan Jordan and Bralon Addison did their share of making Travis work for points. We spoke with Dumas after the game to get some of his thoughts on the match. “We couldn’t get to the goal the first three times we played them, but this time our guards got free and dished off to the wings and we got points as a result”. Dumas went on to say each time the big men got the ball they had strong finishes in this game unlike the others. “We felt they were big inside but we may have been lit-

This was just as tough as it gets and Dumas said he didn’t feel they had it won until the final buzzer went off. “Yes sir it looked good when House got the dunk, but I didn’t feel it until that buzzer went off with us on top”. In closing Dumas stated it was tough in district and if they made it out the team felt they had a good chance to get to Austin.

A RISING STAR - RUSHELL HARVEY - WESTSIDE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View One thing good about covering the 60th annual running of the TSU Relays is that you have an opportunity to see up and coming talent. That certainly was the case when we ran into sophomore track star Rushell Harvey of Houston Westside. The grand niece of the legendary TSU trainer “Doc” Harvey had just won her heat and waiting for a chance to go in the finals. Even against the best in the business Harvey placed 6th and says brighter days are coming for her. In the 400 meters, she had a chance to work out with the legendary two time state champ Diamond Dixon who went on to Kansas. “Yes sir she ran by us a few times and it was a learning experience to go against her”. As we talked more with Rushell we learned she had a great deal of respect for Dixon. “She taught me to have confidence in what I was doing on the track and I practice the things she taught now”. Back to her heat, Harvey said she truly didn’t know she was going to win it until the very end.”I kind of noticed the girl beside me was running hard so I kind of dug a little deeper and beat her to the tape”.
The soft spoken Harvey went on to say she considers it an honor to be running in the TSU Relays and since she’s only in the 10th grade she can learn from what she seen here. “I hope I can better my times. Last week I had a 12.02 in the 100 meters and
went 24.75 in the 200 meters, but my times went up this week with the wind. It was her first time to place number one in her heat and we certainly believe it will give her a lift when she gets into district action.

SISTER LEOLA PENRICE HOMEGOING SERVICES By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View On March 3, 2011 after a brief illness Mrs. Leola Penrice quietly passed away. Born February 22, 1922 to Lucy and Fred Smith in Hempstead, Texas Leola attended Hempstead Public Schools and later moved to Houston. There she met and married the late Obrem Penrice, To this union eight children were born Willie, Obrem Jr., Walter, Oka Mae, Ora, Carolyn, Bennie and Annie Mae. Confessing Christ at an early age Mrs. Penrice was a faithful
member at Yale Street Baptist Church and was an active member until her health failed her. Preceded in death by her husband Obrem Penrice, Daughter Oka Mae and son Obrem Jr. Mrs. Penrice went about God’s work for more than 8 decades. Her brother Willie and sister Pearline and son-in-law Charles Dorsey Sr. also preceded her in death. We really didn’t know Mrs. Penrice but we know her son Walter Penrice very well. The old saying is the fruit don’t fall far from the tree. If Walter is
any indication Mrs. Penrice was a tree that planted by the water and shall not be moved. As Pruitt’s Mortuary was nearly filled with well-wishers you got the feeling Mrs. Penrice was certainly well-liked. A day later as people lined up to speak at the home going services at Yale Street Baptist you got a good feeling another of God’s soldiers was going on home. Walter best friend Eugene (Papa Lou) Ellison spoke well of the Penrice family. “I would pass up my house to go home with Walter, because I knew I would smell the pine oil in her very

P.V.’S WILSON SAYS GOOD BYE TO SENIORS AND HELLO CHAMPIONSHIPS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Prairie View, Texas- First year Women head basketball Coach Toyelle Wilson is a very impressive person. In her first year at the top of P.V. Women basketball program she not only won the conference tournament but set the stage for more to come. The charming but aggressive coach had the Lady Panthers pose to make a big SWAC run around the Christmas break and they rolled through the conference and got a win over regular season winner Southern University. They came from behind and beat the Lady Jags in the tournament championship and once again made the NCAA tournament. The third time in five years, but more importantly they actually had a solid game plan that could have won the game for them. With five seniors on the squad the Lady Panthers got off to a slow start against the Lady Bears of Baylor University including Brittney Griner formerly of Nimitz. Who could have possibly thought they would not score in the first nine minutes or so nor would they trail 16-0 before they scored any points at all. It also
seems fitting that Robin Jones a native of Waco, Texas scored their only points in the first 13 and one half minutes. But if you are wondering where is the silver lining. Well that simply, the fact is the Lady Panthers staff had some great plays called and the women got good looks at the basket and they just didn’t fall in. Yet their defense held Baylor in check and at the time we are writing this the Lady Bears’ 66 points in their 66-30 win over P.V. is their lowest output of the tournament. That’s says the Lady Panthers coaching staff had a good plan on defense as well as a good overall game plan.
have plenty underclassmen coming back. The SWAC freshman of the year in Siarra Soliz from Houston-Chavez who was one of the team’s leading scorers. Litia “Puff” Williams a junior from Riverdale, Georgia along with Sharde Henry a sophomore from Lake Charles La. has also played well for the Lady Panthers. Freshman Rennica Merida also spent a great deal of time on the floor.
Wilson is assisted by Rob Amboree, Dawn Brown, and Oretega McDavid and their graduate assistance is Pete Longoria. The first year is always a tough year, but the Lady Panther certainly have brighter days with Wilson at the control. The graduate of Manhattan in 2003 is in her first year as the head coach and she has grown as well as her staff and their program. Finishing up at 21-12 the Lady Panthers were impressive and when you throw in the facts they
Coach Wilson and her staff will have to say good bye to Dominique (Bird) Smith, Trinity Robinson, Robin Jones, Courtney Larsen and Whitney Williams. But let me make it clear the Metro-Houston area girls had better take a look at P.V. this fall because they are going to be good. With any kind
of recruiting at all they could be great! In closing we want to add we plan to do a better job of covering the Lady Panthers in the future because they are going to be a force in the SWAC and in the NCAA as a whole!

LAMARQUE COUGARS CLAW THEIR WAY TO STATE TITLE GAME By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The La Marque Cougars rolled all the way to the state title game before losing out to Dallas Kimball 78-64. What a ride it was for Coach Cedric Mason and his Cougars. It started by beating defending two-time state champs Jack Yates Lions 10291. Then they slipped past Galveston Ball 58-56 in a thriller at the Merrell Center. Many people felt Ball would have beaten them for a third time, but that was not the case. With nearly 3500 people in the stands the Cougars trailed by 29-
20 and rallied on an 11-0 run to lead 31-29 at the half and never trailed in the game again. The Cougars slowed the pace and it took something away from Ball and the Tornados just didn’t get going. Julien Lewis led the way with 27 points and eight rebounds for the University of Texas signee. He had plenty of help from Quevin Cams who was all over the boards and kept Ball from getting to the goal the way they had in the previous meeting. With the pure shooting of Darrian Provost and the foul shooting of Cams, the Cougars were able to win their semi-final game that set up the show down
with Dallas Kimball. When the dust settled the Cougars had a great season and De Quentin Greer and Brian Allen played well also. The junior guard Emmanuel Williams got a chance to see a lot of action on the court after passing for 33 touchdowns to lead the football team to the state title game also. One thing is coming out of all this is a new rivalry with Jack Yates, because the two schools have met twice in the basketball playoffs and twice in the football playoffs. In Class 3A it was Corpus Christi West Oso getting 26 points from Ray Robinson beating Burkburnett 61-57. If you recall it was West Oso that lost to San Antonio Cole with Shaquille O’Neal in 1989 and they had eight other trips to state before breaking through in their 10th trip the tournament. It marked 61 years before the city got their first state title.

Class A Division I title went to Clyde Eula who beat Tenaha 6449 as Kianon Irons ripped the nets for 31 points and 14 boards. The Class A Division II title went to Paducah who came back from a slow start to beat Bronte 45-30 with Andrew Hastings leading way with 19 points. Paducah has been a force in class A for a very long time. They won the title in 1985 the same year the Madison Marlins went 40-0 and claim the Class 5A title.

HIGHTOWER HURRICANES BEAT FB TRAVIS FOR REGION III CLASS 5A TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes had to weather three storms before they could get past Fort Bend Travis and claim the Region III Class 5A title. Guards Johnathan Jordan and Bralon Addison controlled the tempo and got the ball to their scorers when it counted most. They went on to win 55-47 to move on to state, after beating Travis for the first time in four outings. With 1 minute and 50 seconds left in the contest the Canes led by 10 when Danuel House got a steal and soared up and slammed it home to seal the victory. We spoke with House about the dunk and the overall game plan. “My teammates got a big pick up from the dunk and it put us up by 12 and kind of killed their momentum”. House went on to say the Canes knew they would

have to sell out on defense or order to get their offense going and to win the game. “We have to stick to the script and follow our coaching instructions”. The talented junior said he knew they would beat Travis when it really counted. “Our parents were really pushing us to beat them but we kept telling them to allow us to take this thing one game at a time and we’ll be all right. Guards Bralon Addison talked about trying to run with Travis was hard because they are so tall. “We knew we had to take care of the ball because this team had the ability to come back as they did last night”. The overall experience paid off for Hightower when it came to their fourth meeting. “Yes sir, they had some juniors and sophomores on their squad but they are very talented”. The guys prayed hard to get to the state tournament this time around. “You never know what God has

Point guard Johnathan Jordan (5) led Hightower planned for us and this year God led us to victory and now he is sending us to Austin”. Point guard Johnathan Jordan controlled the tempo and went to the foul line to help seal the victory. “We forced a lot of shots in district games with Travis and this time we were told by our coaches to make sure we got good shots and make better passes”. The senior guard went on to say when he gathered his team he told them we were quicker than them and perhaps had a little more heart. It certainly appeared that way as Hightower won the game and they outscored Travis 16-4 in the third to put it away. Free throws are a big key for a smaller team’s success on the court. “Yes sir, being only 5 feet 9 inches it’s tough but I feel I’m crafty enough to get some calls and when I did I just had to make those free throws to help my team win”. In closing Jordan
Bralon Addison (11) provided Canes with good guard play said working a lot on free throws in practice came into play. But House slam dunk broke the game over and to that Jordan said thank you very much! It was Hightower that ended the Madison Marlins season 78-64 in the Region III semi-finals, while Travis came from behind
Unfortunately for the Hurricanes they were beaten by Flower Mound Marcus in the state semifinals. Marcus went onto beat Garland Lake-view Centennial 40-38 to claim the Class 5A title. If you recall last year Fort Bend Bush beat Centennial for the title. But what it shows is FBISD has something to say about Class 5A basketball. From the looks of things Travis will have a lot to say about the Class 5A title in 2012.

The Way I See It By BIG John Chandler As I watched and enjoyed the NCAA men and women basketball tournament, my thoughts remained on the absolute mess that has become at Ohio State University. I shouldn’t be supposed at the trouble that was caused simply because the head football coach didn’t do the one thing he was expected to do-tell the truth. That remains the hardest thing on this planet to do; telling the truth all the time no matter what the consequences are. My beloved mother once
told me telling the truth is easy; it’s dealing with those who don’t like truth that remains hard. I can tell you that truth telling is an endangered species. People just don’t want to hear it. It’s not always lying but just not telling the real story that has become a major problem in our society. For our athletes the question first and foremost should bewhat is the role of a head coach? What are the things besides coaching ability determine just how good a coach he/she can
Page 22
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A HEAD COACH? be? By now dear readers, I’m no expert. I never claimed to be one. I’m just a writer and as my column title states this is the way I see it. My opinion in my newspaper. So here are a few thoughts regarding the role a coach must have. Integrity-A head coach must have integrity. No one wants to play for a crook. The program won’t accomplish anything if it’s drowning with all types of illegal activity. How can a coach attract top athletes if everything associated with the program is rotten from the core? Believability-Can I play for coach that’s dishonest. Is everything that he says a lie? Can
he/she tell the truth about anything? From playing time to actual questions about life issues, he coach must be able to tell the truth and be believable in doing so. Accountability-Basically the coach must be accountable for any activity that occurs regarding the team and/or the coaches and staff members that are associated. Pointing fingers at the guilty members doesn’t remove the coach’s responsibity. All the cheers and the good times associated with winning means the coach must accept the bad things that can happen to a program. Honesty-No coach should be a part of any program without
being honest. Honest about everything. This is a hard thing to do. It’s hard because honesty can sometime destroy the team. But in the end dishonesty will shred your team and everything about your team including the most important part-the coach himself. I think many people believe Vince Lombardi was right when he said ‘winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing’. But I would add a coach must be more than winning. He should also be living and teaching about life which I would say living isn’t the only thing, it’s everything. That’s just the way I see it!
