Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)
2012 CADILLAC SRX
As we roll into our 25th year of evaluating some of the world’s finest automobiles, we had a great one the other week. Yes it was the Cadillac SRX All-Wheel Drive Crossover. Clearly the most powerful vehicle in its class at 308 horse power humming from the 3.6 Liter SIDI E85 Capable V6 engine. It also seats five adults comfortably and room for luggage. We found that to be the case when we went to Hobby to pick up our special guest, World Famous entertainer Millie Jackson, her son Jerroll and his road manager Mr. Arthur Jones. Coming to town for the 17th Annual Fiesta Free Music Festival, the legendary Jackson agreed to do a meet and greet with King Arthur’s Productions and Fiesta and enjoyed her stay to say the least. Having worked in freight for many years, we easily arranged the entire luggage to fit and made the trip to and from the airport with ease. We had the opportunity to listen to the late great Tyrone Davis and his nephew Jerroll sang along with all songs of his late uncle all the way from the airport. Then on the way back, we had in one of Millie Jackson’s greatest hits and she hummed all the way back to Hobby Airport. Thanks to a 5.1 surround Sound Bose Audio System with 10speakers as Millie even commented the mixing of the CDs sounded great. The eight inch touch screen with 40GB hard drive is accommodated by
Bluetooth for phone and Aux jacks and USB port.
Inside the new Cadillac RSX the driver is greeted with a leather wrapped steering wheel with rake and telescoping and radio controls. The pedals are adjustable and both driver and front passengers seats are heated and ventilated, with eight-way power adjust. The rear seat 60/40 split fold with recline and yes the rear seats are also heated. Yes Cadillac thought of just about anything in this baby and
man we are talking about performance to go along with it. The engine cranks out 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. The Cadillac shield warranty includes a four-year/50,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Plus a five-year/100,000 miles power train limited warranty along with four-year/50,000 mile premium care maintenance. To round it off Cadillac also offers a five year/100,000 miles Courtesy transportation and five year/100,000 miles roadside assistance.

In closing please allow me to add the new RSX comes with 12-month Onstar direction and connections with automatic crash response turn by turn navigation and much more. Our test car fully loaded came in at just over $51,000. Pretty darn good!

CHEVY SONIC LTZ HELPING BUYERS WIN THE ECONOMIC BATTLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Liberty, Texas-During the first week of the month we test drove the new Chevrolet Sonic LTZ. Man it brought back memories as Darryl Bellamy and I made the trip to buy radio time with the Crown Prince on KHSN 99.9 FM. In the middle 80’s, Bellamy and I went down to Ames to do
stories on the Creole settlers from San Ann Parish, Louisiana. Fact is they are the people the movie Buck and the Preacher was somewhat based on. The new Sonic LTZ first of all was priced just below $18,000 fully equipped. With 47 % of its parts from right here in the United States and Canada along
with 20 % from Korea, the Sonic is basically home grown. The final assembly point is Lake Orion, Michigan. The engine is home grown with the transmission built in Austria. A 1.8 Liter Ecotex VVT-DOHC 4-cylinder cranks out 138 horsepower and manages to get 29 miles per gallon in the city and 40 miles per gallon on the highway.
With the rain coming down hard, Bellamy and I made the trip and we must credit the Sonic LTZ with some good handling because at times the wind was blowing pretty hard. One of the most impressive things about the new Sonic is it was named a 2011 top safety pick. Equipped with air bags dual stage frontal, driver and right front passenger, along with thorax side-front and rear outboard seat positions adds to the safety of the vehicle. There are head curtains side-front and rear
outboard positions. Keep in mind we are talking about a unit pretty much maxed out at $18,000 and it even has knee bags and child safety security. Features like tire monitoring gauge and theft deterrent system are commonly found on more luxurious vehicles. Throw in the fact the new Sonic LTZ comes with six months Onstar and leather seating surface, you have to put it at the top of the list of values for your hard earned dollars.

WHEN YOU WANT BIG CALL ON CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 4WD LTZ CREW CAB By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View When you are in the market for a big truck that makes a big foot print and carries a big load, take a look at the 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500. Yes we are talking about big truck with a
fancy appeal and still gets down and dirty when it comes to take care of farm and ranch duties. Let’s start with the Vortec 6.0Liter V8 engine that comes standard and the 6.6 Duramax 6.6 Liter V8 Turbo Diesel of our test vehicles. We are talking
about giving you a quality choice depending on the work load you need. With 365-horse power on the 6.6 Liter Duramax diesel with more than 1.2 million of them produced over the past ten years. This power train is warranty covers for 5-
years/100,000 miles on both the gas and diesel engines. Equipped with a Allison 6-speed automatic transmission and styled with 20 inch forged polished aluminum wheels, this baby not only runs good and pulls and tow good but it looks great while doing so. For another 689 dollars you can add 6 inch tubular chromed assist steps and have them installed at your local dealer. There are plenty of other accessories you can to vehicle. All things included on our test vehicle came to just under 61 grand. Again I say we can understand why. Clearly indicating Chevy is standing behind this baby. The Max towing goes up to 21,700 pounds with a payload of 6,635 pounds all of which are tops in class. Once you are inside you forget about all that big rough stuff and
The 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ
settle into a luxurious interior you’d expect from a luxury touring sedan. Leather wrapped steering wheel memory for power seats with front leather appointed surfaces. A 60/40 split rear seat allowing all passengers to take full advantage of the Bose Premium sound system complete with XM Satellite radio with all the trimming. Heated and cooled front seats and head curtain air bags for front and rear passengers are a couple of things to come to mind. Add seat mounted side impact air bags for driver and front passenger and mirrors, camper system heated and power adjustable. The vehicle is even wired for camper use also. In closing please allow me to add the new Silverado 2500 also has battery run down protection and oil life monitor system plus 24 hour road side assistance.

CHEVY TAHOE 4WD LTZ CLASSIC SUV RIDE
By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD LTZ is certainly one for the ages. We are talking about a near perfect blend of luxury and comfort as well as affordability in a SUV. Take for example it also has flexible fuel capability and runs on ethanol (E85) and gets 15 miles per gallon in the city and 21 on the highway. There is
no shortage of power in the Tahoe with a proven 5.3 Liter Vortec SFI V8 engine with active fuel management producing 320 horse power at 5400 RPM and manages 335 lbs per foot of torque at 4000 RPM. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode. The total towing capacity is 8200 pounds on the 4WD models with towing package.
Let us not forget we are talking about a full-size SUV here and those numbers are not commonly found. We applaud Chevrolet for working to find a solution to the old adage of blending luxury and comfort with affordability and style. All of the above has been rolled into one with the new Tahoe LTZ. An auto ride suspension differential, locking rear and fully automatic transfer case with -2speed trailer sway control. Throw in rear parking assist, brake assist and hill start. Again we are talking about features found on luxury touring sedans and all of this is part of the new Chevy Tahoe. We are beginning to understand why the Texas
State Troopers picked this vehicle as their D.O.T. number one automobile
One other thing about the new Tahoe is its home grown with 60 per cent of its part from the United States and Canada with 30 per cent from Mexico with the final assembly point in Arlington, Texas. Both the engine and transmission are built right here in the United States. Safety is a strong point for the new Tahoe as well with a frontal crash rating of 5-star for the driver and 4-star for front passenger, with side crash rating of 5-star for both front and rear seats. However the rollover gets a 3-star rating by the NHTSA.
Key options are Premium Bose Stereo with navigation system, rear camera display inside rearview mirror. Throw in XM Nav traffic a sunroof and a Z71 Suspension package. For those of you who like to pull trailers it has a heavy duty trailering package. Once you are inside the Tahoe you are greeted to a luxurious layout something to the tune of luxury touring sedans. Round it all off with big 20 inch chrome wheels with theft deterrent and a front console organizer. Our test vehicle came in at just over 60 grand but we can certainly understand why!

onship. Thanks to a good group of hard working girls and a dedicated staff that is getting them ready game in and game out. Jim Stephens is assisted by Veronica Johnson and Dyce McCulloch. His team basically disrupted the attack of the defending Region III champs Lady Elsik Rams and made a long day for them. We spoke with Stephens about the game and the way his team adjusted when Elsik pulled to within one point. “I think our kids have learned how to play under pressure and move the ball to the open girl and that girl is not afraid to take the shot”. On the other side of the ball Stephens pointed out “We had some big stops by helping each other against their two big post players (Crystal Porter and Akunna Elonu)”. He went on to praise Loryn Goodwin and Carol Willie with doing find jobs on those two great scorers and keeping them at bay for most of the game.
We moved over to ask Coach Stephens if his team had enough to go to Austin and win the state title. “I think so we have two losses this season losing a close one to Dekaney at their place after leading at the half and we played Duncanville well, lost in a close one”. Stephens added he really doesn’t know what to expect in Austin, but he knows he girls are ready to play hard and give it their all. “I love these girls and they are quality group and they play hard game in and game out, plus we believe in them”. KIT MARTIN-BARBERS HILL Jumping up and down on the sidelines, head coach Kit Martin could sense her girls were going to win the Region III Class 4A title for the first time. Barbers Hill is no stranger to state tournament games but this is their first time in Class 4A. Martin who has two girls on her team that have moms who were on the 1988 state championship team and she is excited to have
the tradition continues. “Each time you see Barbers Hill basketball as a player, fan or coach, you know the tradition is there and you want to do your part to help keep it going. When asked about the key to the victory, Martin said transition defense was the key. “We had to keep them from getting going and to make sure they didn’t have easy layups”. Martin went on to praise the job Kaylee Kana a junior forward did on Nekia Jones one of the state’s finest players. Kana kept Jones off balance and for the most part made her work for every point she got in the game. “Kaylee kept Jones from making that long ball pass for easy points”. Handling the press was a big key as Martin praised senior Shannon Evans and Makenzi May with making good choices with the ball all day long. The pressure applied for Ozen usually force turnovers and creates offense for the Lady Panthers. Once Ozen got behind they begin to force plays and they played right into what
Coach Martin had planned for them. Martin is assisted by Ashley Silva and Sharlene Barnett and the Lady Eagles are 38-3 going to state.

Out and About with John Engel VETERANS ACTION NETWORK (VAN)
Veterans Action Network, Inc. (VA ) is a non-profit organization located in the Greater Houston Ares. Its purpose is to serve, assist, and aid veterans of the United States Armed Forces who currently reside in the Greater Houston Area. This includes all of Harris, Fort Bend, Wharton, Galveston, Brazoria, Montgomery, Chambers, and Jefferson Counties. VAN’s primary goals are to provide transitional housing to homeless military veterans, and to help and assist those that have served our country. The goal is help them achieve, sustain, maintain, or adjust to a healthy, suitable, productive, and adequate life style. Finally their aim is to ease the transition of military veterans into civilian environment upon completion of VAN’s programs and services.
These goals will be accomplished by highlighting and addressing any unmet, unsatisfied, and/or unfulfilled social or personal needs of our veterans. VAN will address these needs, free of cost to veterans, through civic, charitable, and benevolent services. Their programs and services include, but are not limited to, nutrition, education, physical health care, substance abuse and mental health. VAN will provide counseling, personal development and empowerment to assist in attaining employment, résumé preparation, financial literacy awareness, and any programs designed to maintain self-sufficiency, determination, and independence. All of these services are provided without cost to any United States Armed Forces military veteran. (Quoted from
To achieve these goals, VAN is working to distribute meals, and furnish physical care education. They also provide counseling for substance abuse and mental health. VAN is able to assist in résumé preparation and help Veterans achieve gainful employment. Ronnie T. Curtis is the Founder and CEO of Veterans Action Network (V.A.N.) He is a 22 year honorably retired veteran. Ron served 4 years in the United States Army as an Infantry Soldier and 17 years in the Texas Air National Guard serving as a member of the 147th Civil Engineers Squadron. Ron achieved his Civil Engineering Seven Level Management certification at the NCO Academy, at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. Reginald Patterson is a Manager in the Tax Department at UHY Advisors. He specializes in Federal taxation, focusing on Corporations and Partnerships. He also provides State tax compliance. Reginald has worked across industries, including energy, manufacturing, services, real estate, small businesses, etc. A native Houstonian, Reginald and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, from Texas Southern University. VAN has joined forces with The Fallen Heroes Survivors Foundation (see article in King Size View, September 2011 or read on line at www.kingsizeview.com). The purpose of The Fallen Heroes Survivors Foundation is to aid the families of those who paid the ultimate price for their country. VAN is able to assist the men and women that returned home to face a very different battle, the one from within. Last year VAN hosted a Health and Wellness Expo at a local community center. Veterans were able to receive a wide variety of health screenings and receive advice on physical fitness and stress reduction. One of the motivations for the founding of VAN is that some of our heroes are told that they must wait up to a year to get an appointment at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. Just to get something as simple as a blood test the patient must fast for 12 hours, show up at the appointed time, then wait as long as six hours (without eating or drinking) until it is their turn to be seen. VAN has been able to help in many of these cases by referring patients to a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center). These centers are able to help the Veterans without the long waits. In addition, many Vets are able to be seen in their local communities instead of traveling to the Veteran’s Hospital.
VAN is not the largest organization in our area, but it is a local institute that is trying to get known in the community. Based inside the loop, they are trying to help the most underserved group of men and women that have served their country: the minority communities within our community that are often overlooked and ignored. Their long term goal is to create a VAN chapter in every major city. Another goal is to find a facility that can be used for many purposes. They are trying to start small and grow as funding permits. Ideally, a series of row houses that could be adapted for offices and residential living would be perfect for their needs. Visit them at www.vaninc.org to learn more or to see how you can help.
VETERAN OF THE MONTH, CPL. DANIEL PETERSON By John Engel A King-Size View A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check Made payable to ‘The United States of America ‘ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.’ That is Honor, and there are way too many people in This country who no longer understand it.’ Daniel Peterson wrote his check the United States of American and it was cashed for both of his legs. While on his second deployment, Marine Special Forces, Lance Corporal Daniel Peterson was left a double amputee after an explosion in the Southern Helmand Province of Afghanistan on July 24, 2010. Returning from a classified mission, the Special Forces Team was making their way along a tree line while returning to base when a bomb exploded, hurling
Cpl. Peterson (NOTE: Just before this article was written, Daniel Peterson received a promotion to Corporal or E-4) more than ten feet into the air. Landing in the crater created by the explosion, Daniel immediately knew he was seriously injured.
Naval Medical Center, Palo Alto Rehab Hospital, Balboa Naval Hospital, and Brooke Army Medical Center where he continues receiving therapies at this time. (Source: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hf ot and http://www.homesforourtroops.org).
Suffering traumatic amputations to both of his legs, Cpl. Peterson also had a fractured pelvis; the broken bones and shrapnel from the blast causing further internal injuries as he awaited aid. Placing tourniquets on his own legs, Cpl. Peterson was then treated by the Corpsman as his team carried him away from the tree line and prepared him for the MEDEVAC. Initially transported to Camp Dwyer, a twenty minute helicopter ride, he was later airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany before beginning his treatments at multiple hospitals state-side including: Bethesda
Peterson is currently in military housing and is looking forward to living in a home built to accommodate his needs. He spends a lot of his time in San Antonio at the Brooke Army Medical Center and hopes to move to Rose Hill outside of Tomball as soon as his house is ready. “A specially adapted Homes for Our Troops home will give me a place to call my own; one where I can focus on my recovery. Having it adapted to my needs will make overcoming all of the obstacles in life that much easi-
er,” said Cpl. Peterson. “This will be a life-changing experience, returning my life to some sense of normalcy.” Daniel is one of the most incredible people I have ever met! At 22 he has lived more than many of us will live in our entire lives, the son of a career Marine, he has military in his blood. He told me “some are here to build homes or to heal others. I am her to fight for my country.” Peterson grew up in places with Marine names like Twenty Nine
Palms and Camp Pendleton. He loves and respects weapons and will continue to hunt for the rest of his life. He is still in the Marines until the main treatments are completed. During his treatments he fell in love with Texas and found the Tomball area when his military companion and best friend invited him to visit the area. Soft spoken, Daniel speaks openly about his injuries and the events that led up to the loss of his legs and other injuries.

situation. He has accepted that he paid a willing price to help keep us all free. But what does the future hold for this brave man? Not surprisingly, he plans to recover, get adjusted to his
new legs and return to Afghanistan with another government agency. There is no doubt in my mind he will do just that.
He will live in his new home with his younger brother and Holly, a beautiful young lady that met Dan during his recovery in San Antonio and cares for him without regard to the challenges he faces. Peterson was fitted with prosthetic legs but a bone issue caused them to fail. Additional surgeries were required and we will be again fitted for new legs. His goal is to walk into his new home without the chair. There is no bitterness or anger in this American Hero about his
WWW.KINGSIZEVIEW.COM A KING-SIZE MOVER AND SHAKER: MS. BOBBYE RUTH MANNING BURKE By Dr. Victor Keys A King-Size View Our KING-SIZE MOVER AND SHAKER for the month of February is Ms. Bobbye Ruth Manning Burke. The 77 year old retired teacher is not the typical retired grandmother. She is a “MOVER AND SHAKER” who has been recognized nationally for her volunteer work. Instead of retiring to her rocking chair, Ms. Burke volunteers at Academic & Behavior Center-West (ABC-West), which is one of the special schools of the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE). There she helps with students who are Autistic and Emotionally Disturbed. These students’ ages range from 6 to 22 years old. Ms. Burke can be seen around the campus doing everything from changing a diaper to feeding one of these special needs students. As a result of her dedication to others, Ms. Burke was one of the recipients of the Lewis Hine Awards. She traveled to New York City with her family to attend the awards ceremony. This year’s program was chaired by Maria R. Morris, Executive Vice President of MetLife, Inc. Ms. Burke has over 6, 000 hours of volunteer work and
has volunteered at ABC-West for over 10 years. Ms. Burke also worked at ABC-West long before she started volunteering there. Additionally, she worked in the Houston Independent School District before retiring with 43 years of service. Ms. Celes Harris Assistant Superintendent at HCDE stated that “Ms. Burke is a truly dedicated volunteer and deserves all the recognition that is available as there are so few people committed to serving others especially students who are Autistic or Emotionally Disturbed”. When asked why she loved volunteering at ABC-West, Ms. Burked stated that “you feel like you are doing something positive. I am a great believer that older people should not just sit around”. Ms. Burke also volunteers at M.D. Anderson Hospital for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and serves as an advisory board member. She supports finding a cure for Leukemia, a disease which killed her husband. I asked Ms. Burke how she felt about receiving such a prestigious award and she stated that “she was flabbergasted by this honor”. She added “I feel like I am a representative for the thousands of others who work with
young people to make a difference in their lives. I also believe that I represent those people who volunteer without any thought of rewards”. Thank you Ms. Burke for being a “MOVER AND SHAKER”.

BARBERS HILL LADY EAGLES FLYING ALL THE WAY TO STATE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Lady Eagles of Barbers Hill High School are headed to Austin to represent Region III in the girls’ Class 4A state championship tournament. This made possible by a big 66-39 win over defending Region III champs and previously unbeaten Beaumont Ozen. Senior guard Shannon Evans scored 12 points and dished off to teammate Makenzi May who had 25 to lead the Lady Eagles to the title before an active crowd at the Campbell Center. A well balanced attack for the Eagles as freshman Kimi Carter had a pretty good game as well. Highly ranked center Kendall Shaw clogged up the middle and brought down a Region III high 18 rebounds while scoring eight points in the win. On the other end of the floor, it was Kaylee Kana doing a great job of Nekia Jones one of the greatest scorers in the state. This is the first time the Eagles will make the trip to state in Class 4A but they have very rich tradition. Fact is two girls on the team Moms were on the 1988 team in Evans and May.
In talking with Evans after the game we learned she wanted to play well because she didn’t have a good game in the semifinals the night before. “This is a wonderful group of girls and we worked so hard for this and we are going to Austin to kick some butt it’s just that simple”. Coach Kit Martin made it clear the team wants to not only go to state but they want to win it in the process. Trailing by as many as 14 points the Lady Panthers fought to get back in it but each time they came close May would hit another trey and put them further behind.

CY-FALLS EASES PAST ELSIK TO EARN STATE BERTH By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Lady Eagles of Cypress Falls High School are Region III Class 5A girls’ basketball champions after beating Alief Elsik 59-52. Jumping to a big lead and hanging on for dear life at the end, the Lady Eagles got 14 points from Loryn Goodwin and Shernise Robertson respectfully in the win. Junior post Carol Willie rattled the rim for 10 points, four of them coming down the stretch with key free throws following big rebounds. Out front it was Kit Metoyer and Sadallas Ellis doing their thing
as Ellis scored 10 points and kept the pressure on Elsik guards making it difficult for them to get the ball to their scorers all game long. Jumping to a big 21-9 lead after the first period, the Lady Eagles had to hold on as Elsik came back to close within a point. It was Willie went to work scoring four points and Loryn Goodwin added a couple to put it out of reach again. During that stretch Elsik missed the front end of a one and one two times to help seal their faith. The trip will be the Lady Eagles first to Austin and they plan to make the most of it.

The Way I See It By BIG John Chandler PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME I don’t try to claim I’m an expert at anything. I’m not a writer, actor, pro athlete or singer. I can’t solve many of the easiest problems on the planet. Never have been able to do that, and this point in my life I don’t figure I’ll ever be able to do so. But a real close friend of mine made an astounding statement that I decided to address in this months column. While attending a basketball game, he looked at the on teams crowd and stated ‘it doesn’t matter what the sport is or the the time of year, they never draw a decent crowd’. I looked at the crowd and it was horrible-I mean that sadly in the worse way, just horrible. It doesn’t matter whom they are playing nor does the sport; they don’t draw a crowd. And the question that never seems answered-why? I have never failed to like attending high school sporting events. I don’t care what teams are playing, or the area where the games are being played. I just enjoy watching young people giving their all in full competition. I knew when I was in high school that I didn’t have the talent to play at the next level. I gave all I had because I loved playing sports. I loved looking in the stands watching crowds cheer. It just gave me energy to go full out no matter what the score was. Young athletes need to feel that encouragement. Sadly a lot of parents don’t attend games to support their very own children. Where are the students? Some schools have no student support. This is just unbelievable to me. How can you attend a school and not support your classmates that in essence are representing you school? Maybe that’s one of the problems that many school face. If the students, teachers and overall employees of that school don’t support their teams, many others including their very own alumni won’t support them
either. I can honestly state never would I even think of not supporting my beloved high school of James Madison. I attend many games and enjoy seeing my former classmates and people of good will from the community surrounding Madison that love watching their games. I see that at several programs around the Houston area. Their fan base has never been small. But some schools don’t draw at all. Their athletes will to win has never ceased. They produce great teams year after year. But look in the stands and you see few faces. I feel sorry for those young people because they don’t deserve that. I feel angry at those communities that don’t offer any support. I ask why this continues to happen year after year. And again the same response is given-why? It’s truly amazing when we see and hear all of the negative things young people are involved in yet when it comes to the positive uplifting things it hardly gets acknowledged. I don’t have an answer regarding this issue, but I will continue as God allows me to do so attend report and support young people regarding their athletic events. I want them to know that some adults do care; some of us care a whole lot and we should. Many of the problems that have occurred on this planet for centuries have one general cause. Good people saw the problem, talked about it and were touched. But when it came to action to correct it, many stood by and some even left the scene thinking someone else would address it. When we don’t participate in events that young people are involved in, is it any wonder why they have the attitudes they have about us? To quote a title of one of my favorite James Brown songs‘GET UP, GET INTO IT, GET INVOLVED’. ‘That’s just the way I see it’!

2012 FIESTA FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL GOES ON DESPITE A LITTLE RAIN By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Thanks to Elisa Garnica and the rest of Fiesta Promotional people, the 17th Annual Black History Celebration and Free Music Festival still took place with the threat of rain all day long. After a 50 minute rain delay the legendary Earnest “Smitty” Smith and the Spiritual Travelers hit the stage and got the show underway. Fiesta Store # 22 Curtiss Thompson opened the show with a very positive welcome and we were underway. ‘Smitty’ defied the laws of nature as he jumped around singing and praising the Lord. You would not have known he is 91 years of age and has been singing for 77 years. The group started out with some slow songs and the legend took the mike and rocked the house with their song ‘Operator’ from their new CD. Meeting with the crowd and taking photos Mr. Smith was pleased to make the show for the first time and you can bet it won’t be his last, because we enjoyed them very much and certainly will have them back again. Unfortunately Ma’Jana Phoenix the singing sensation 9-year old became ill and was hospitalized and could not be there for the event. But next up was Lady Beatrice Ward and the Angelic Voices as they prepare to celebrate their 30th year anniversary in March. The date is March 25, 2012 at 5:00 pm at Cullen Baptist Church located at 13233 Cullen in Houston. You might want to make it out to that show. For many years we’ve worked with Sister Ward and her husband Frank along with Edith and Lynn. They are always putting on a good show and having some new songs as well and plenty of traditional songs.
The Studewood Cobras cheerleaders were also out in full force and they did a performance as well. It showed why they were this year’s competition winners again. By that time T. J. Hooker came up with the Ultra Suede Band featuring Jack Utley on guitar. They did the Johnnie Taylor Revue. Singing the songs his father made famous years ago and truly bringing back memories with some of those classic R & B tunes Having such a flare, T. J. even caught the eye of Millie Jackson who was our special guest for this year’s show. Her son Jerroll Jackson and road manager Arthur Jones made the trip with them as well. The Award Winning Texas Southern University cheerleaders took the stage and did their routines much to the delight of the crowd. Next up was the sweet and Sassy Kimberly Adams and two songs into her set it poured down rain and we had another 25-minute delay. Adams charmed the crowd with her love talk songs prompting people to line up for her CDs at the table by the stage.
Lifetime Achievement Award went the world famous Chiropractor Dr. Romanuel Washington Jr. With many years of practicing, Dr. Washington is one of the world’s best and I can safely say he worked wonders for me. The award named for the late Gloria D. Chandler for nearly five decades of working with the Houston Independent School District as a teacher at Kashmere, E.O. Smith, Madison and sponsor of cheerleaders with Sterling High School. Her son ‘Big’ Johnson Chandler presented the award to Dr. Washington who was accompanied by his daughter Dr. Madeline Washington D.C. who also practices with him on Crawford Street in Houston’s Historic Third Ward. As the rain started to let up Kyra Noons, also known as Neutral Sister, whispered in my ear she wanted to go on with show. “I came here to perform and I’m not going to let a little rain stop me”. Kyra then asked the sound man to set up the smaller sound system under the tent on the stage and let her give it a shot. It worked and she took the stage with heart warming songs including the late Etta James “At Last”. Then she brought on Mr.
After the rain slowed to a drizzle, Emaniah Shinar was provided a tent by Fiesta Promotional people and he got started with his steel drums. Talking first to explain what is going on with the drums, Shinar then played several songs and the kids were wonderful in his band and it showed just how much he has put into what he is doing. It is his plan to have a 1,000 member steel drum concert at the Presidential Inauguration Ball in 2013. The Gloria D. Chandler Fiesta

Blacc Sheep and they did their hit song “Hold On”. By that time the crowd started coming back and we were able to go ahead and get our awards in for Jerroll Jackson the nephew of the late great Tyrone Davis and his world famous Mom Millie Jackson. The weather cleared and many people started filling back under the tent. It was then the Hot and Steamy Band of the legendary soul and blues master Ernie Johnson starting warming up and Starr Sound begin uncovering their big sound system. Ten minutes later Ernie Johnson took the stage and did four songs of the late Tyrone Davis and four of his very own hits including his first song recorded in 1968. For those who thought the rain was going to stop us, think again with the help of Fiesta Promotion crew and the good Lord on our side we got it done. By the way while others pretend….The King Delivers!

MAKENZI MAY-BARBERS HILL- LORYN GOODWIN-CY-FALLS
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK MAKENZI MAY BARBERS HILL
Makeniz May rips the net for a game high 25 points as Barbers Hill goes to state in class 4A for the first time
Shooting from the left side angle, junior guard Makenzi May scored 25 points and would have made former Celtic great Larry Bird proud. With the game on the line, May swished two treys and made a layup to break up the game as Barbers Hill goes to state for the first time in Class 4A. This resulted in a big 66-39 win over defending Region III Class 4A champs Beaumont Ozen. We spoke with the talented junior about those open jumpers she hit down the stretch to seal the victory. “We just were trying to pull away and get open and it’s like a dream come true for us because we work so hard in practice every day”. Getting on the wing and waiting for senior guard Shannon Evans
to feed her, May led the way and she says it was just like another day at the office. “We all were set to block out and break away from them to make their defense work harder to apply pressure”. May went on to say they played Ozen twice last year and Coach Kit Martin found some things they could work on and they simply followed her instructions and it worked out for them. Clearly one of the leaders on the team next year, May says they are ready to retool and try to go back to the state again. We must add this was one of the finest shooting displays we’ve seen in a long time. May’s 25 points was a thing of beauty and look for her to shine in Austin as well. LORYN GOODWIN CY-FALLS With a smile on her face, Loryn Goodwin scored 15 points and hauled down eight rebounds and it was a key to Cypress Falls making their first trip to Austin. The Lady Eagles beat defending Region III champs Elsik Lady Rams 59-52 at the Campbell
Center. Getting open on the wing was the key as Goodwin took care of business on both ends of the court. “It was the way we came out with poise and confidence because there are doubters out there, but we wanted to let it be known we wanted to go to state”. Going against the Lady Rams was not going to be easy. “Our coaches told us we had to out play the player in front of us and get off more shots than they do and contest every shot they take”. Receiving their goal was aided by the fact Jazmine Ocanas who fouled out late in the fourth period. “She’s a great player and yes it was in our favor when she went out of the game”. As we talked more with Loryn we learned the team just believes in hitting the open person. “No sir, it’s not just my shooting it’s whoever is open takes the shot and today I guess I was just open more. “We have to play smart and take advantage of opportunities like free throws. We work hard at it like shooting 100 free throws in practice every day”.
In closing Goodwin says with the talent, hard work and following the coaching staff, the team can go to state and win.

DEFENSIVE PLAYERS: SADALLA ELLIS-CY-FALLS - KAYLEE KANA-BARBERS HILL By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View SADALLA ELLIS-CY-FALLS When you are playing for an opportunity to go to state you definitely need to play defense. Well guards Sadalla Ellis and Shernise Robertson did their thing as the Lady Eagles of Cypress Falls eased past Alief Elsik 59-52. The win sends the Lady Eagles to Austin for the first time with a 37-2 record.
Ellis talked about the win with the media. “We have one faith and one team and are like one big happy family; that’s what makes this team special”. Ellis and Robertson kept pressure on Elsik guards and once Jazmine Ocanas fouled out it was really in the Lady Eagles favor. I would say we rebounded well today and we also shot our treys well and that kind of tired Elsik out a bit”. In closing Ellis says the team is truly blessed to be going to state and it helped that the Rams Jazmine Ocanas fouled out of the game down the stretch.
guarding position. It’s clearly set the tone for the game. Thanks to the double team on Kendall Shaw the Lady Eagles also ran their offense through Kaylee who did a good job of helping to find Makenzi May and Shannon Evans open for easy shots. She also did a good job of helping Shaw on the boards as well.

KAYLEE KANA BARBERS HILL The Lady Eagles of Barbers Hill high school are going to Austin as the region III class 4A champions. According to Coach Kit Martin they owe it to their unsung heroin of the game in Kaylee Kana. The five feet ten inch swing-forward did a days’ work on Nekia Jones of Beaumont Ozen. Even though Jones got free a bit in the third but for the most part Kana kept her at bay. On more than one occasion Jones bolded right over her, but Kaylee took the charge and got up and assumed her

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
SANDRA MERE-ELSIK As the girls head to Austin for the state basketball championships we noticed the Elsik Lady Rams cheerleaders. They were getting their fans involved as they battled the Lady Eagles of Cypress Falls High School. We moved over to ask sponsor Melisa Hamilton to give us one of the top senior students on her squad. Yes she gave us Sandra Mere a mild-mannered senior who is the lovely and talented daughter of Rufina Emeharole. Having taken fashion designs in her sophomore year, Sandra wants to go on to become a fashion buyer so she can have a role in what’s hot and what’s not. “It’s something I would love to be able to do because sometimes what you wear says a
lot about you. Having strong Nigerian culture, Sandra knows the right path to take to her goal. On Sundays you’ll find them down at New Light Church where the Bishop I.V. Hilliard is the pastor. Once singing in the youth choir, Sandra currently is active in the youth ministry and says she loves getting other students to come to church. “The biggest thing is students think church is boring, but at our church we have a good time serving God and that’s great no matter how you look at it”. Holding a firm grip on a 3.9 G.P.A. with English as her favorite subject, Sandra has a
wonderful understanding on just how life works. “English is the only subject that two people can read the same thing and get a different understanding of it”. She went on to add comprehension is what makes English so interesting. On the subject of Barack Obama becoming our nation’s first African American President, Sandra says it confirms you can be what you want to be. “When you consider the fact the congress is fighting everything he tries to do, I feel the President is doing a fine job”. As we talked more Sandra says if she were in charge at Elsik she would cut back on the hall sweeps for late arriving students. “People could have problems at home that cause them to arrive at school late. It’s not bad to have students punish for being late to all the other classes, but the first period goes into things like the bus was late or you missed the bus and a lot goes into that”.

the outstanding student she is in the classroom as well as their Nigerian cultural values also. “My mom has always pushed me to work hard in class and she instilled those values in me at a very early age. Considering herself a happy and friendly person who, puts God first in her life and lives by the Word every day. “I feel I’m a very accomplished person and with God leading the way, I feel great about becoming an adult as leading a good God fearing life” In closing Sandra credited Melisa Hamilton the Lady Rams cheerleader sponsor with being like another mother for her. “She has strong Christian values and she pushes us to all be like sisters and I love cheering with this group”.

her own. Going against girls with much more experience, Carter scored six points and played great defense as well as filled the lanes on the break. The results are a big 66-39 win for the Lady Eagles of Barbers Hill High School. The talented freshman went on to say she is right where she wants to be on the Lady Eagles squad of Coach Kim Martin. “I just picked a great year to be a freshman and the team leadership welcomed me with open arms and I feel I’m fitting in real well”. She went on to say the team gives her advice and helps her with things she is still learning.
Lady Eagles defense simply made a long day for the Lady Panthers. “We were up at the half but we knew we had to shut them down again because they are a good team and they were going to make a run”. Breaking into the starting lineup during the season Carter has made the most of her playing time and she says the team is coming together very well. They are looking forward to making the trip to Austin and this time it’s the first time in Class 4A. But you can rest assured it won’t be their last!
champs Elsik 59-52. “Everything for us is defense and it’s a big part of what we do as a team and going against Elsik who has three big offensive players”. Willie went on to say it was important to get off to a good start because it’s so important to be able to hold on and win the game. Feeling real good about the team’s 37-2 mark, the team feels they can win the state title in Austin this weekend. “We’ve talked about this all season long and we feel real good about our chances to the title.

The Lady Eagles really bothered the Lady Panthers and made the game tough on the defending Region III Class 4A champs. “We are known for using ball pressure and it appeared they were not use to having someone in their faces on every move”. Picking them up at the three point line was the key and the
First she had a key block, then a key rebound followed by four key free throws down the stretch. If you haven’t guessed yet I’m talking about junior post player Carol Willie of Cypress Falls. Carol finished the game with 10 points and all played a big role as they turned back defending Region III Class 5A
With an a 6 feet 2 inch frame, Willie has potential to grow to be as tall as 6 feet 6 inches and with her presence around the basket she could develop into an outstanding player before she’s done. With Coach Jim Stephens stressing defense as the most important thing, the team makes it tough for teams to get points on
them. They worked over Elsik pretty good and the Lady Rams have people who can create points.

LOUIS MUNKS SCORES BIG AT P.V. TURNS BACK TSU By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Prairie View, Texas-Sophomore guard Louis Munks connected on his first seven shots as the Panthers rolled to a big 73-67 win over Texas Southern University in a packed Baby Dome. It gave the Panthers their first winning percentage in SWAC action this season at 4-3. However by the 14th game point the Panthers are in a tie for third place with a 7-7 mark. Munks who from Arlington Texas displayed some of finest shooting we’ve seen in a while. The Tigers defense got rough with him early in the second half and he suffered to a 0-5 stretch. But it was his big dunk to seal the victory for the Panthers and Coach Byron Rimm III. “Yes sir I kind of wanted to send a message to TSU and the rest of the SWAC that’s the way it’s going to be in the second half of conference play”. The sharp shooting guard went on to say he felt his rhythm early and his teammates did an excellent job f getting him the ball in good position and he was able to knock those shots down. “We got off to a fast start and yes sir it was in our minds they way TSU whipped us at their place. Munks 23 points led all scorers
in the game and his teammate Ryan Gesiakowski ripped the nets for 21 points on eight of 15 shooting and provided some balance to the Panthers attack. It was a great night for the Panthers as 5400 fans filled the Baby Dome as the Fire Marshalls had to turn away hundreds of people who were unable to get inside. “We used it as motivation the way they whipped us so coach Rimm made it clear to us we had to play defense and we pride ourselves in working hard on defense”. The Panthers goals are to win the SWAC championship and get into the NCAA tournament.
The Lady Panthers rolled over TSU 53-45 behind 26 points from junior forward Kiara Etienne. It was the one of the best nights for the junior from Jennings, Louisiana. P.V. got 10 points from junior Latia Williams and freshman LaReahn Washington a second year player from Booker T. Washington High School in Houston also had a pretty good game with four boards and two assists.
Coach Toyelle Wilson is working her into the lineup as the games go by. Freshman Jeanette Jackson chipped in nine points in the win over the Lady Tigers who have never beaten the Lady Panthers in the past seven years. They also received their SWAC tournament championship rings at halftime of the Men’s game this night also.
While at the game we had a little talk with Adrian Hamilton the graduating senior from Dallas Carter High School. He is projected to be drafted in the National Football League and some observers say as early as the late second round. One thing is for sure at 6 feet 4 inches and 258 pounds he certainly has the size for it. “I feel I can play with anyone on any level”. Having played in a one of the senior games against the top players in the country, Hamilton feels he’s ready for whatever comes his way. “I hope they don’t think just because I played in the SWAC my competition was not up to par, because a lot of players from the SWAC have made pro teams”. In the classroom Hamilton is working on his Criminal Justice Degree and that’s what he wants to do as an adult. “I want to be an attorney and work on the defense side of the law and the criminal justice system works for poor people”.
Having played at a big school, Hamilton says he feels he can play with anyone and what is meant for him will be if it’s God will. He has trained with former NFL players to make sure he is ready for the combines. “I love to run hills as a hobby so I’m ready to give it my all and with God’s help I’ll be all right”. In closing Hamilton says his Christian beliefs are a plus for him and he is not worried about falling for the temptation the world has to offer.

WHAT IS TRUTH? LOVETH & HATETH LIFE IN THIS WORLD There are many in the religious world today proclaiming to be “Christ-ians”. The name itself indicates ownership. There are many proclaiming to belong to Christ, but they are thinking and doing things their own way. There are lifestyles, “Life is Great” that are striven for and are taught by “religious leaders”, that cannot be found in the apostles’ doctrine. We cannot have it our way, if we belong to Christ “Christ-ians” we must do it Christ’s way because, he is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE (John14:1-10). We are not our own, we have been bought with a price. Christians must deny themselves take up their cross daily and follow him. The blueprint of The One Body, The One Church that Christ is building, is found in The Apostles’ Doctrine, which is in New Testament Scriptures (Matt.28:16-20; John17:16-21; Acts1:1-4; 2:4142; 1Cor.11:1-3; 2Pet.1:15-21; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John4:5-6). Now let us read as it defines those that belongs to Christ. He that hath an ear let him hear, and then strive to do, if we are to be “They that are Christ’s”. Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.(KJV) Matt 22:14 For many are (1)called, but few are chosen.(KJV) Definition: (1)called-2822 kletos (klay-tos’);from the same as 2821; invited, i.e. appointed: KJV— called. Luke 13:23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. (KJV) Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.(KJV) The Lesson: He that loveth and hateth his life in this world! John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 (1)He that loveth his life (2)shall lose it; and (3)he that hateth his life in this (4)world (5)shall keep it unto (6)life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.(KJV) Definitions: (1) He that loveth his life- 5368 phileo (fil-eh’-o); from 5384; to be a friend to (fond of [an individual or an object]), i.e. have affection for KJV—to love, to approve of, to like, to show signs of love; to be fond of doing; to be accustomed to. and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil
said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.(KJV) EARTHLY EDUCATIO AL LEVEL OF THE LORD JESUS: John 7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having (1)never learned? 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.(KJV) Definition: (1)never learned3129 manthano-to learn, to be appraised (to set value on) a) to increase one’s knowledge, to be increased in knowledge Some examples of the SUFFERINGS of those who FOLLOWED CHRIST, who also HATED their lives while in this WORLD! WHAT IS TRUTH? LOVETH & HATETH LIFE IN THIS WORLD 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: EARTHLY SUFFERI GS OF THOSE WHO FOLLOWED CHRIST: Acts 20:22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (KJV) Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. (KJV) 1 Cor 4:9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. 11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; 12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: 13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day. 14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. 15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. 2 Cor 12:6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest
I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. Phil 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. Phil 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;(KJV) Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (see also verses 26 and 27) Eph 5:28 So ought men to love
their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. (see verses 32 and 33) 1 Pet 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 1 Pet 3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.(KJV) EARTHLY EDUCATIO AL LEVEL OF THOSE WHO FOLLOWED CHRIST: Matt 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and (1)prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.(KJV) Definition: (1)prudent -4908 sunetos- intelligent, wise, learned Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were (1)unlearned and (2)ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. Definitions: (1)unlearned 62 agrammatos (ag-ram-matos);from 1 (as negative particle) and 1121; unlettered, i.e. illiterate: KJV— unlearned. (2)ignorant men-2399 idiotes-4) in the New Testament, an unlearned, illiterate man as opposed to the learned and educated: one who is unskilled in any art 1 Cor 1:17 For Christ sent me
not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. (KJV) 1 Cor 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.(KJV) 1 Cor 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:(KJV) 1 Cor 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.(KJV) 1 Cor 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.(KJV) 2 Cor 10:10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful;
but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech (1)contemptible. Definition: (1) his speech contemptible-1848 exoutheneo (ex-oo-then-eh’-o); a variation of 1847 and meaning the same: KJV— contemptible, despise, least esteemed, set at nought, to make of no account, to despise utterly 2 Cor 11:6 But though I be (1)rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.(KJV) Definition: (1)rude in speech2399 idiotes; an ignoramus: KJV— ignorant, rude, unlearned. 4) in the New Testament, an unlearned, illiterate man as opposed to the learned and educated: one who is unskilled in any art Phil 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.(KJV) John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.(KJV) 2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be *reprobates? 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not *reprobates… *{Rejected, Worthless} (KJV) Again, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls.
