Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)

2014 MAZDA CX-5 GRAND TOURING AWD Fort Worth, Texas-As more and more automakers are now assembling their product line right here in the United States, Mazda still has a full line of imported products. The new 2014 Mazda CX-5 AWD is one of them with 90% of its parts content from Japan. The final assembly plant is Hiroshima Japan is where this baby gets the finishing touches and both the engine and transmission are Japanese built. For those of you who truly want in an import, well this is it because this baby has zero parts from the U.S. and Canada. As we made are monthly business trip to the Dallas MetroPlex Darryl Bellamy and I were really impressed with the CX-5. First its 2.5 liter Skyactiv engine provided us with 184 horse power and still managed to get 30 miles per gallon. Now let’s be real here with today’s gas prices closing in on four dollars

per gallon that was great news. The Skyactiv-drive six-speed automatic transmission went well with the all-wheel drive and gave the vehicle some sure footedness in heavy traffic. It was aided by 19 inch alloy wheels and P 225/55R 19-inch all season tires. Before we go too far with this let me remind you all that this vehicle was priced just below $32,000 and our model was fully equipped. Among some of the features of the exterior was first our Soul Red metallic paint job got a few looks on the trip as well. Then you throw in such features like heated-power mirror with turn signal indicators in them. Normally these are features found on more expensive luxury touring sedans. Adding the power moon roof and sometimes you have get out and look to see just what are you actually driving.

Inside driver and passengers are treated to a state-of-the-art layout with solid gauges with easy to read well-lited instrument cluster and good size knobs and buttons. A tilt/telescopic steering column with leather wrapped steering wheel with audio/cruise control/Bluetooth controls adds to the interior convenience of the new Mazda CX-5. An eight-way driver seat makes sure you are comfortable before going on a trip. The front seats are heated for those of you in the cold weather states. A center armrest and split fold-down rear seats 40/20/40 and carpeted floor mats completes a wonderfully planed interior.

sports SUV and sport sedan. We can’t go through this report without telling you about the Bose audio system with AM/FM/CD/MP3 with nine speakers and 5’8 inch screen. Man again we are talking about

HD radio, USB and the entire works. You know we could go on and on but we think it’s best if you simply visit you Mazda Dealership and see for yourself. I’m out of here zoom-zoom!

Warranties for the new Mazda are 36-month/36,000 miles bumper to bumper with 60month/60,000 mile power train and 24-hour roadside assistance. The 2014 Mazda CX-5 AWD with Skyactiv technology When it comes to stopping, the Mazda CX-5 is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes and electric power assisted steering, independent front/rear suspension and front and rear stabilizer bars. To round out some of the vehicles safety features tire pressure monitoring system and blind spot monitoring system also. These features you expect on a more expensive luxury

KIA RIO SX OFFERS TREMENDOUS SPORT STYLING By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Kia Rio SX is out to prove you can be sporty and style without going broke. We were really impressed with the 2013 Kia Rio SX mainly due to the room inside and the overall styling. Let us not forget our test vehicle was pretty well equipped and came in at just over $21,000. Most of all was the fancy styling up front with basically a front fascia that favors the up-scaled Kia Optima and you know we are talking about a fist full of dollars more. Not knowing what to expect we were pleasantly surprised when we noticed it. The overall stance giving a more sport sedan look we just were floored by the vehicle’s overall great looks. Even more impressed once we got inside and checked out the fit and feel. Getting more impressed as we took to the streets in this signal red vehicle turning heads as we rolled we got a real good feeling overall. The 1.6 Liter four cylinder engines cranks out 138 horsepower and delivers an average of 34 miles to the gallon. Needless to say we never had to add fuel during our weeklong test run. 36 miles per gallon on the highway and 31 in the city are great numbers for the new Kia Rio SX. A six-speed automatic transmission with active eco system made for a smooth ride and good quality overall fit and feel. Power rolled to the road on 17inch performance tires circulating around alloy wheels adding to the stylist appeal of the new SX model. Some of the optional equipment included navigation system with Sirius traffic, power tilt/slide roof and push bottom start with smart key. Yes it even had leather seats trim and heated front seats and carpeted floor mats. Man-o-Man we are still

A King-Size View is online

www.kingsizeview.com talking about a vehicle with a price tag of just over $21,000. When it comes to safety the new Rio SX has an overall rating by the NHTSA of four-star with four-star rating for both driver and front passenger in frontal crashes and four-star for front seat riders in side crashes and five-star for rear seat riders in side crashes and a four-star rating for rollovers. Dual front advanced airbags front seat mounted side airbags full-length side curtain. Sounds like a fullsize luxury sedan features a little bit don’t it? This vehicle is 95% Korean with the engine and transmission both built in Korea as well as the final assemble point took place in Korea. Another strong point of the Kia Rio SX is it’s 10 year/100,000 miles warranty limited power train warranty and fiveyear/60,000 mile warranty as well as five-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance, please ask your dealer for details. In addition to all of the above let me also add the new AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system complete with USB and auxiliary input jacks with Bluetooth wireless technology and rear camera display to name a few of the vehicle standard features. In closing just a couple more things to throw at you all; tilt/ telescopic steering wheel with leather wrapped gear shift knob and steering wheel paddle shifters. I think you get the point, so if you are in the market take a look at this one first at your local Kia dealership.

KIA OPTIMA SX COMING UP RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View When we first saw the ads using Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, we thought “yeah right”. But after spending a week behind the wheel of the Kia Optima SX we get the message. Clearly this product line is coming right up the mid-size segment and like a quarter horse it’s moving up fast. Peter Schreyer head of design for Kia has brought over his experience from his days at VW and put them to work. After spending over six years in Korea cranking out such successful vehicles like the Kia Soul and Sorento, Peter is now in Georgia working at Kia’s big billion dollar plant. Fact is this is where the Kia Optima SX is designed and assembled. Fact is the engine and transmission along with 45% of its parts are built right here in America. The other 55%

is still Korean born and it helps make up the new success for Kia these days. Keep in mind these days people simply want as much bang for their bucks as they can get. So let’s go over some of the bangs you get for this vehicle prices slightly over $35,000. It starts with a 10-year/100,000 miles limited power train warranty and a five-year/60,000 miles limited basic warranty plus fiveyear/60,000mile roadside assistance.

star rating when it comes to rollovers. Power is provided by a 2.0 liter 274 horse power Turbo gas direct injection four-cyldiner engine. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and has electric power steering. All this

rolls to the pavement on 18 inch tires with sport designed alloy wheels. Talking about fun to drive, with those steering wheel paddle shifters we can see what Blake was so excited. In closing please allow me to add the new Kia Optima has a

full array of electronically sound system and the other feature you expect from a luxury touring sedan and more. Mid-size automakers had better make room for the Kia Optima because it's coming right up the middle!

On the safety side the Kia Optima SX gets an overall fivestar rating from the NHTSA. That’s five-stars for driver and front passengers in frontal crashes while it gets five-star for rear passengers in side crashes but only three-star rating for front passengers in side crashes. Due mainly to the vehicle wider stance it gets a whopping five-

THE A-NOTE with Aaron Watson Please have a notebook, computer, or cell phone close by to put down your thoughts as you read this. Two things, one decision! You will work toward success or you won’t. That’s it! there is no in between. Two things can not occupy the same space at the same time. Every time you have a negative “can’t do” attitude it does not just slow down progress it takes the place of the “can do” attitude altogether and stops progress. Instinctively your mind is already made up; You will be a success. The only obstacle you will face is YOU. In today’s world we use a remarkable amount of energy trying to figure out what bad things can hap-

pen on the way to achieving our goals. Stop this practice right Now! The only job you have in this matter is to come up with a reasonable goal and purposely do at least one thing everyday to obtain it. Setting a goal is easy right? Before you continue reading, if you don’t have a goal already written, take a moment to write one goal on your notebook, computer, or cell phone. Now look at your goal, and answer the following questions (Yes or No only). Did your goal state exactly What you wanted to achieve? Did your goal state exactly Where you wanted to achieve it? Did your goal state exactly How

The legendary Earnest “Smitty” Smith turns 93 and is still jumping for Jesus -photo by Dr. Victor Keys BUILDING BLOCK ONE: THE DECISION TO SET A GOAL (PLANT A SEED) you will achieve it? Did your goal state exactly When you will achieve it? Did your goal state exactly Who is going to benefit when you achieve it? For each “YES” answer give yourself 20 points, add the points together and that is your score on the scale of 100. Example: if you answered four questions “YES” your score is 80 out of 100. That is a good score, but 100 is the only passing grade. Homework; over the next three days make sure your goal has each one of these characteristics, at least. If your goal already has them, great! You are a leader, but only to the extent that you have shared this process with those around you. Day four, after you have incorporated all of these things into your goal, YOU MUST PUT YOUR GOAL IN WRITING

AND READ IT EVERYDAY. With all of the distractions of work, personal, and financial life, you must have that nonbias piece of paper that won’t listen to you complain, that doesn’t feel sorry for you because you struggle, and that doesn’t tell you it’s ok you can quit. It will be that daily reminder “You were put here to be meaningful, powerful, and empowering because you are a game changer”. Make your goal your habit. The more you do something the more comfortable you are doing

it and the better you will do it. Read your goal everyday so it becomes a habit. By forming this habit you can quickly remind yourself that you are well equipped to face any challenge set before you. Out and About with John Engel

BAYTOWN, TEXAS

One of my earliest memories of Baytown was driving a truck through the Baytown Tunnel. When first came to Texas I was hauling agricultural products form Louisiana to Pasadena and had to travel through the tunnel daily. It was a bit scary to take an 80,000 pound, 65 foot long truck through the tunnel with less than a foot of clearance on either side. The Baytown Tunnel was a two-lane underwater motor-vehicle tunnel connecting Baytown and La Porte.

Completed in 1953, it traveled northeast-southwest underneath the Houston Ship Channel and had a length of 4,110 feet. It was closed to vehicular traffic in 1995 with the opening of the Fred Hartman Bridge, and subsequently demolished beginning in 1997 in order for the Army Corps of Engineers to deepen the channel in 1998. I have been through Baytown hundreds of times, both on I-10 and through the tunnel on Highway 145, I never gave the

town much thought until I attended a military funeral there. A local was telling me that the town had a very interesting past. It was made up of three cities that really did not like each other much. I decided to look a little deeper and was quite interested with what I saw. Baytown is located about 20 miles east of Houston and is mostly in Harris County with a small portion of the city in Chambers County. The area was settled in 1822 by Nathanael Lynch who developed a ferry crossing that has evolved and still exists to this day as the Lynchburg Ferry. The town is centered at the junction of the San Jacinto River and the Buffalo Bayou. This very flat and low area was once mostly under water and flooding is a continuing problem to this day. The city now known as Baytown was originally three separate towns. The first of these was Goose Creek, named for the bayou of the same name where Canadian Geese wintered and whose name is still reflected in the area’s Goose Creek ISD, whose establishment dates back to before 1850. With the discovery of the Goose Creek Oil Field, the rival communities of Pelly in the late 1910s, and East Baytown in the early 1920s, developed as early boomtowns. The “East” in East Baytown was later dropped because it was west of Goose Creek. Serious talk of merging the three cities began shortly after World War I, but the community of Baytown was opposed to this idea. However, in 1947, the three cities finally agreed to consolidate. The citizens settled on the name Baytown for the new combined city. Baytown as it is known today was officially founded January 24, 1948. In 1916, the Humble Oil & Refining Company founded by one-time Texas governor Ross Sterling. The company later built the Baytown Refinery, which would become one of the largest Exxon Refineries in the world. Since then, many other refineries have been built in the area. Exxon-Mobil is still one of the major employers in the city and now runs over ten plants in the area. Following the discovery of oil nearby, the population of Baytown and the Tri-cities

boomed. Many immigrants arrived in Baytown, among them a number of Jewish families who founded a synagogue, K’nesseth Israel in 1930. Steel manufacturing in Baytown began in 1970 when United States Steel opened the Texas Works near the city. The 48-inch (1,200 mm) welded pipe used in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline was produced at the facility’s pipe mill. The plant was officially closed in July 1986, due to a poor economic climate and the decline of American steel in the 1980s. The mill was later purchased by Jindal Steel and now operates as JSW Steel USA, Inc. The heart of Baytown’s economies is three industrial districts the city has created. Oddly enough, all are outside the city limits but within its jurisdiction. These districts primarily support petroleum and petrochemical processing. The anchors of the business community are ExxonMobil, Bayer, and Chevron Phillips. The Exxon-Mobil Baytown Complex, founded in 1919, is one of the world’s largest industrial complexes. The Baytown Refinery located there, in fact, is the largest in the United States. The Bayer Baytown Industrial Park is the largest of Bayer’s U.S. chemical processing sites producing a variety of petrochemical products. The Cedar Bayou Chemical Plant is similarly Chevron Phillips largest manufacturing site. The Cedar Crossing Business Park is a newer and growing industrial district which is quickly acquiring new tenants.

Page 7

In addition to the heavy industry in the business community, recent additions to the economy include major regional warehouse and distribution centers for Home Depot and Wal-Mart. The Wal-Mart Distribution Center is primarily an import warehouse where containers come from around the world through the Port of Houston and products are distributed to stores around the country. Recreation in the Baytown area includes the Baytown Nature Center located on a 450-acre (1.8 km2) peninsula along the Houston Ship Channel and surrounded on three sides by Burnet Bay, Crystal Bay, and Scott Bay, is both a recreation area and a wildlife sanctuary that is home to hundreds of bird species, mammals, reptiles, and aquatic species. Baytown is also home to Royal Purple Raceway, originally named Houston Raceway Park, is a motorsports complex featuring National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) races and a weekly drag racing program. Established in 1988, the venue accommodates 40,000 fans and included a high-banked dirt oval race track that hosts races each year from March through October. The Baytown area is essential to the economy of both the oil industry and the Greater Houston Area. Sometimes it is worth a deeper look when you pass by a city often. You never know how many interesting fact you can find.

The Way I See It By BIG John Chandler ‘90 MINUTE’ PER WEEK CONTACT PRACTICE BEST FOR YOUNG BALLERS The University Interscholastic League has decided that full contact practice for football players will be limited to 90 minutes per week. This move follows NCAA guidelines along with the National Football League. I had very mixed emotions about this. Folks, I’m from the old school. I love my classic albums from the ‘70s and ‘80s (don’t believe me? Just ask King Arthur!), old television programs, vintage old sport games (I could watch those Boston-Los Angeles Lakers games of the ‘80s every day) just to name a few. I loved ‘70s football. It took real, physical and smart men to play the game in those days. They knew of only one way to play football: be the last man standing at the end of the game. Knock out your opponent before he knocked you out. Trust me young readers, people got hurt and I do mean hurt each time the whistle was blown. Injury reports became more detailed because injuries became so important. That was football then. That’s why we grew to have such a deep passion for it. It was the type of football our fathers and grandfathers played and loved. The instilled that passion you my generation. But a funny thing happened over the last 30 years-those old school football players began being diagnosed with severe head injuries. Bones broken many years ago didn’t heal as many had thought. Some (due to heavy performance enhancing drugs, pain killers that led to addiction) became very dangerous men away from the field. All of a sudden those old school, rough and tough men began to wither away physically and mentally and sadly pass away. Games today are about survival; the less injuries your team has the better your team’s chances to make a long playoff run. The injuries were becoming too much a part of the game. The league along with the players union agreed to shorten required team off season workouts and practice sessions. The NFL saves its most violent times, the actual contact for

game time. Quarterbacks hits are limited as is on field types of hits. Head on collisions could result in not only a fine but a suspension also. These ‘rule’ changes drifted to the collegiate level and of course it went to the high school level. Many coaches in Texas have already limited contact in practice. One coach was quoted as saying ‘on our level (high school) losing one great player to injury during practice, could end the season before it ever got started’. Numbers simply don’t lie. The biggest issue high school coaches face year end and out is depth. Some inner city teams along with small towns don’t have but on average 30 plus athletes that can suit up. One major injury could ruin any hope for earning a playoff spot. Big schools with over 3.000 plus enrollment don’t face depth problems so injuries still rough to adjust too, can still compete and be successful. Remember we’re talking about major injuries in practice, not games. This means coaches must conduct daily practice like a class room with teaching the major goal. They must instruct their team all aspects of football. I think the biggest problem of this will be teams in the urban areas of Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin San Antonio, West Texas and the Valley. Numbers don’t lie and let’s remember why the U.I.L. agreed to implement this policy in the first place-safety. Yes dear readers, safety will always be top priority regarding our young men and women. There should never and I repeat never be any disagreements between anyone of us regarding that. That’s why with a strong amount of anger in my heart, I support this policy change. Football as I along with many others of my generation with a passion for the game understand one thing for sure-football as we know it will never and I mean never be seen as it was. That’s just the way I see it!

COBRAS OPEN UP FOR 38TH SEASON ON JULY 8TH By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Studewood Cobras open up their 38th season with their annual football and cheer leader champ. All Saturdays in June the Cobras were at Booker T. Washington High School Field conducting registrations and taking care of business just as they have for the past 37 years. PRAIRIE VIEW A&M'S JARVIS WILSON SIGNS WITH THE GREEN BAY PACKERS Prairie View A&M defensive end Jarvis Wilson made a favorable impression this past week on the gridiron and earned a contract with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers after participating in the team’s rookie orientation camp. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Wilson flew down to Green Bay to participate in the team’s rookie orientation camp which featured 11 of the team’s draft picks, a dozen rookie and firstyear free-agent signees and 27 tryout players. Wilson entered camp as a tryout player and overcame the odds as he was one of five tryout players offered a contract by the team and will hit the ground running as he’ll participate in Green Bay’s organized team activities (OTAs) next week.

As a senior at Prairie View A&M, Wilson registered 63 tackles, including eight tackles for loss, a half-sack, a forced fumble, four QB hurries and two passes defensed. As a junior in 2011, Wilson posted 59 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble, three QB hurries and two passes defensed. Wilson becomes the third consecutive defensive end from Prairie View A&M under head coach Heishma Northern and defensive line coach Miles Brandon to earn a spot on an NFL roster as he joins Quinton Spears (Indianapolis Colts) and Adrian Hamilton (Baltimore Ravens). Like Spears and Hamilton, Wilson will move to linebacker as the Packers employ a 3-4 defense.

MEN'S BASKETBALL POSTS HIGHEST APR SCORE IN PROGRAM HISTORY, LEADS SWAC After a history making season which featured an appearance in the conference tournament championship for the first time in 15 years, the Prairie View A&M men’s basketball program made news off the court as they posted the top score amongst men’s basketball teams in the SWAC during the annual Academic Progress Report (APR) released by the NCAA on Tuesday. The team posted its highest APR in program history with a score of 944. Only three basketball teams in the SWAC posted scores of 900 or higher with a 27-point difference separating

the Panthers from the closest institution. Head coach Byron Rimm II and staff has worked diligently to improve the program’s APR since accepting the position of head coach seven years ago. When APR was first instituted, the program was penalized and suffered an immediate reduction in scholarships coupled with a historical penalty (public notice) in 2007-08. As a result, Rimm rolled up his sleeves and went a step further by installing weekly progress reports, class checks, on-campus study hall and mandatory team study hall sessions on road trips.

After receiving public notice in 2007-08, Rimm’s APR jumped 22 points the following season and eclipsed the 900 mark two years later for the first time in program history. Since then, the program has remained above the 900 mark before this year’s alltime high of 944. “This was a total team effort by our university, the athletic department, compliance department, my coaching staff and the student-athletes,” said Rimm. “As many can attest, APR is an important piece to a program’s success and I won’t rest on my laurels until we achieve a perfect APR score of 1,000.”

STUDENT OF THE WEEK MADISON BEASLEY - CEDAR RIDGE Austin, Texas-While at Red & Charlene McCombs Field we had the pleasure of meeting junior to be this fall Madison Beasley. She is the charming daughter of Deena and Darryl Beasley, yes I’m referring to the University Interscholastic League Assistant Athletic Director. We spotted Madison working the entrance table and she provided us with programs

for the title game between Kingwood and Lewisville. With hobbies of reading and on the Lady Raiders volleyball team Madison has plans of becoming a Physical Therapist as well as an interest in sports medicine. Of those two professions, we are seeing a lot of student lean toward these days.

changes Madison says she feels things are ran rather efficiently at the school. She went on to say that Cedar Ridge in the Austin school district has a very diverse population and a solid mix of people from all walks of live. Rating the school spirit at about an eight or nine, Madison feels the school could use more pep rallies during the heavy sports weeks. Describing herself as somewhat shy to strangers but admits once you get to know her she will open up more.

Praising her parents and especially her mother (Deena) as her most driving force in life Madison feels good about herself. "Oh it’s my mother because she is always supportive of me and spends a great deal of time helping me deal with day to day life". On the subject of Barack Obama becoming the first African American President Madison says it’s good for young people to see that. She went on to say she feels the president is doing a fine job on his historic run as the leader of the free world.

Page 11

Having a father who was a outstanding athlete and working with the U.I.L. as athletic director played a role in Madison getting involved in sports. While in the 8th and 9th grade she joined the volleyball team and says she wished she had worked harder from the start. “I know what it’s like to win because we did pretty good in this my 10th grade year”. The straight A student closed by saying she felt honored to be selected for Fiesta Student of the week and she planned to make the most of the $25.00 gift card that comes with the award!

COACH OF THE WEEK: LORI ANDERSON-LEWISVILLE

By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas-Southeast Missouri State University graduate Lori Anderson led her team to the state’s Class 5A title in a thriller 3-2 victory of Kingwood. Anderson took their 29-13 mark into the state title tournament and came out on top. First beating San Benito 5-2 and then taking a 3-2 win over Kingwood for their 31st win of the season. Lewisville watched Kingwood roll up nine runs in their semifinal game over defending state champs Deer Park a 9-3. It was a bit surprising to coach Anderson that the Lady Farmers held Kingwood scoreless for sic innings. “We were trying to fig-

ure out what’s going on here and once Kingwood put the ball in play in the 7th inning we thought here they come”. But Anderson and the girls kept their composure and won the game. The outfielders played a great game for Lewisville and Coach Anderson said Maribeth Gorsuch pitched very well and deserved the Most Valuble Player but Kacie Saucedo and the rest of the outfielders played very well in their win. When it comes to being ready for the title game Coach Anderson said she felt all along that Kingwood would try to create some runs. “We worked on run downs and squeeze plays and being ready to make a play on the bunt; what we do is find

ways to win ballgames”. Anderson added her Lady Farmers are in a tough district and each time they set foot on the field they had good competition and it more than had them ready for the state level competition. ”Getting everyone healthy was a big key for us. Maribeth didn’t even pitch in the opening rounds of the playoffs and Miranda had to sit out with an injury as well, without a doubt we could not have done this without everyone being back”. In closing Coach Anderson praised hard hitting centerfielder Miranda Worthington for her leadoff homer in the fourth tagging it as one of the keys to the victory!

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL REPORT-LEWISVILLE EDGED KINGWOOD FOR STATE CLASS 5A TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas-With a crowd of 753 heat soaked fans on hand the Lewisville Lady Farmers edged the Kingwood Lady Mustangs 3-2 to take the Class 5A girls 2013 state championship. Becca Scott, a first baseman, hit led to two runs battedin in the second inning coupled with Miranda Worthington homer in the fourth was all it took to get the win. Keep in mind a tremendous defensive showing in the outfield helped produce the title run. In addition to outstanding catches center fielder Kacie Saucedo had one hit and one run scored as well as Meagan Haggard added a hit and reached on base on ball in the contest. There performance held Kingwood to the fewest run totals in 14 games and snapped a 22 game win streak as well. Maribeth Gorsuch went to work with that two run lead and mixed up six pitches well enough to keep the good hitting Lady Mustangs off balance all game long.

Congratulations are in order for the District 5-5A teams and the school district Superintendent Stephen Waddell, Principal Jeffrey Kaja, AD. Randy Mayes and the 3700 students at the school. Coach Lori Anderson and her staff are to be commended as well as every member on their team. Ford 1b and Allen Warren 3b did a good job on the hot field and kept the game in the hands of the players at all times. It took just 1 and one half hour to play. Kingwood’s Cassie McClure hurled a five hitters but the one run shot really hurt in the fourth inning. The celebrated pitcher also had two hits in three at bats and came out short to two long fly balls that could have produced runs for the Lady Mustangs. The Texas Tech signee gave it a great shot and lived up to her billings and then some. Arkansas graduate Lauren Hendrix and her assistant Krista Chavira came up one game short in their playing days at Kingwood so it was an honor for them to get to state with this team. Leigh Ann Wolfe is the other member of the coaching staff for Kingwood’s 35-4 team.

Buda Hayes won the Class 4A title with an 11-8 victory over Lucas Lovejoy. It was Lovejoy who beat Fort Bend Foster 10-5.

Class 2A title went to Pilot Point who eased past Santa Getrudis Academy 1-0. Pilot Point also beat Garrison in the semis 5-2.

The Class 3A title went to Lufkin Hudson a 12-9 winner over Mineola. Remember it was Mineola who beat LaGrange 71.

On the Class A level Weimer beat Ivanhoe Rayburn 2-0 and Weimar had beaten Beckville 13-3 in the semi-finals.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL REPORT - THE WOODLANDS BEAT DULLES 9-5 FOR CLASS 5A STATE TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Round Rock, Texas-It was a rough start for the Highlanders of The Woodlands at the state’s Class 5A baseball championship at the Dell Diamond Stadium. Starting pitcher hit a batter and walked two before giving up two runs in the top of the first inning. But veteran coach Ron Eastman took his time and calmed the right hander down and got out of inning. His team responded with four runs in the bottom half of the first innings and went on to win the game 9-5 for their 38th win of the season against only four losses. For the record Carter Hope had been selected by the Kansas City Royals just 24 hours earlier. So one could understand how he could have been a little excited. He settled down and scattered two hits struck out 9 and faced 24 batters. But thanks to some great hitting by 1st baseman Chris Andritsos, right fielder Blaine Gillespie, center fielder Charlie Warren and left fielder Kolbi Brown the Highlander went on to eight hits, eight RBIs and scored nine runs and didn’t have to bat in the bottom of the 7th inning. Four runs in the 1st and four runs in the third along with one run in the six were good enough. Brown plans to attend Harvard University and has the G.P.A. to get into school and make the most of his life with or without baseball.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK MARIBETH GORSUCH - LEWISVILLE Austin, Texas-Tossing 88 pitches and scattering seven hits and allowing only two runs freshman Maribeth Gorsuch led Lewisville to the Class 5A softball title. The win a 3-2 decision over Humble-Kingwood was good enough to earn her the game’s Most Valuble Player and let us not forget she is a freshman. Going all seven inning and facing 26 batters and suffering only one walk, Gorsuch set a new standard for freshman in high school athletics. She had eight strike outs in the contest witnessed by 753 fans who braved the 95 degree temperature to watch the game.

“I knew my team would get that last out and Kingwood needed two runs to win the game”. Those were the thoughts of this outstanding freshman as she and her teammates were ready for the squeeze play that ended the game. “We knew people underestimated us all season long but no way were we going to let that bother us”. Maribeth fought back from some injuries to get healthy in the second round of the playoffs. “I threw every kind of pitch I had at them and each time I would say to myself I know I can get this girl out and even when I didn’t my teammates helped us through”. This

is a great deal of confidence, coming from a freshman on the biggest stage in the state. “I felt good throwing all six of my pitches and we prayed for this, our coaches and players administration and fans all believed we could win this title”. She went on to praise her teammates on having her back especially at the start of the game. “I’m always a little uptight at the start of the game but as the game goes on I kind of calm down and started to feel the game and go to work” Up 3-0 with two inning left the sensational pitcher simply said to herself. “Just hang in there and get them out”. Crediting her family her community and teammates as well as coaches is the reason they are state champs. In the end the squeeze play was the key as Kingwood tried to tie the game. “We knew the girl was fast and we were watching

A RISING STAR MIRANDA WORTHINGTON-LEWISVILLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas-Center fielder Miranda Worthington put the game out of reach of Kingwood when she smacked a home run off the great Cassie McClure in the fourth. The run gave the Lady Farmers a 3-0 lead and good pitches and excellent defense led to the win 3-2 and the Class 5A state championship. The junior can also pitch, fought back from late season injuries and helped her team win it all. Coach Lori Anderson said in the semi-final game Miranda had hit a ball some 30 feet past over the fence but it was ruled a foul, but this time she caught it right and sent it out the ball park for a home run. Watching closely as the inside pitch about thigh high came in, Miranda got a good swing and the homer put some distance between the two teams at 3-0. “I was looking at it; first I thought it wasn’t going to make it and

then I got a surge of adrenalin go through me when it made it over the fence. I was so happy”. The team held Kingwood scoreless for six innings after they had exploded for nine runs in their semi-final win over Deer Park. “Well we kind of knew we were capable of doing it and we just worked hard and got it done”. They had the togetherness to get the job done but they expected a little more hitting short in the gaps from Kingwood. After struggling late in the regular season they knew once they hit the field for the first playoff game they felt good. Losing 4-0 to Hurst Bell but winning 9-3 and 14-0 to advance to the second round they knew it could end at the state title game. “It was our goal to be the underdog, we kind of like it when people don’t expect too much from us, we think it made us better. Fact is it did and they are state champions.

her but I never thought she would actually try to steal home”. Coach Lori Anderson describes Maribeth as just an ordinary high school freshman, but once she’s on the mound she transforms herself into a great softball player. Gorsuch thanked Coach Anderson for being hard on them in practice and she feels that’s one of the reasons they are state champs. “She taught us to work hard and play hard and to play together and help each other out, I could not have been on a better team of girls and coaches that what we have here”. In closing the sensational freshman added she is not at all in awe of what happened here but credited her teammates for keeping her calm so she can do her thing and win ballgames. Fact is she went 22-4 this year.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK KACIE SAUCEDO-LEWISVILLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas-Left fielder Kacie Saucedo had one hit and scored one run but more importantly she had two outstanding catches for big outs to help Lewisville hold Kingwood scoreless through six innings. The left fielder talked with us on the hot and steamy Red and Charlene McCombs Field after the game. “I saw the ball hit and knew I would have to layout to catch it”. Kacie said Kingwood is a very good hitting team but the Lady Farmer defense did a good job of holding them scoreless for six innings”. Some felt Kacie could have even been in the running for the Most Valuble Player due to her heroics efforts in the field. The team lost their last four games and narrowly made the playoffs. “We had some key injuries as Maribeth (Gorsuch) and Miranda (Worthington) got injured but once the playoffs got started and we got those girls backs we started winning games again. Saucedo went on to say their defense has always been a big part of the team’s success even during that four game losing stretch. “We told her we

would make her return a great one and win the state title for her and the rest of our team". Later in the game it was Kacie on another fly ball she grabbed robbing the Kingwood batters of what would have been good base hits.

WHAT IS TRUTH? HE THAT IS A HIRELING (JOHN 10:12) The apostles were also Ministers and Elders; and there were other believing brethren that continued in the apostles’ doctrine, that were SUPPORTED not only financially, but were supplied with food, clothing, shelter, etc. as they were EEDY. Today’s members, “the lower class saints” supply the financial WA TS, not the needs of ministers and others that receive these salaries. But when the members are needy, they are taught how to manage their monies and are supplied from the food pantry. Are today’s ministers and other “upper class saints” that receive this pay, above being supplied from the food pantry? Just maybe if they had an occupation like the Apostle Paul, a salary from the Church would not be necessary; if they managed their own monies well: unless of course it would be for covetousness. Are they beyond learning how to manage their monies? Usually those that receive this pay, live better than those that supply them. This is out of order [disorderly] according to 2Cor. the 8th chapter, verses 1115; this is why the terms “lower and upper class saints” were used. What happened to EQUALITY? Let us read what the Apostle Paul had to say about EQUALITY; “2 Cor 8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.13 For I mean not that other men be (1)eased, and ye (2)burdened:14 But by an (3)equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their (4)want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.”(KJV) Definitions: (1)eased-425 anesis (an’-es-is); from 447; relaxation or (figuratively) relief: KJV— eased, liberty, rest. (2)burdened-2347 thlipsis (thlip’-sis); from 2346; pressure (literally or figuratively): KJV— afflicted (-tion), anguish, burdened (3)equality-2471 isotes (ee-sot’-ace); likeness (in condition or proportion); by implication, equity: KJV— equal (-ity). (4)want-5303 husterema (hooster’-ay-mah);from 5302; a deficit; specifically, poverty: KJV— that which is behind, penury, want.1) deficiency, what is lacking 2) in reference to property and resources, destitution.

Take the salaries out, and see how many “MINISTERS” are left standing in the pulpits! Take away the money; the so-called “care for the souls” goes out the window because THE HIRELI G FLEETH. You know, the only way one can prove that he is not a “HIRELI G” (preaching for money), is that he doesn’t take any, unless he is EEDY. Then they that are in need according to New Testament scripture, are to be supported in the same manner the apostle Paul and others were; because they did not PREACH FOR A LIVING and neither did Christ for that matter, as is done today. They did the work of an evangelist (2Tim.4:1-5), without charge, for a heavenly reward (1Cor.9:14-18; 2Tim.4:6-8). They LIVED TO PREACH the gospel. Their lifestyle was preaching the gospel for the SAVING of SOULS. Today’s lifestyle is preaching for the SAVINGS in their BANK ACCOUNTS. According to the apostles’ doctrine, the apostles were not on SALARIES whether they were in need or not. They lived a low and humble life (1Cor. 4:9-17; 2Cor.6:410; 2Cor.10:1-18; 11:7-9; 12:511). They were instructed both to be full and to be hungry. Contrary to what is practiced today, their concerns were for the SPIRITUAL and FINANCIAL NEEDS of THE FLOCK. The Church that Christ is building, (Matt.16:18-19; Acts 2:47; 20:28; Eph.3:9-21; 5:25-27&32; Col.1:12-20), cannot only follow the examples of being full and abounding. The Church must also follow the examples of being abased, hungry and suffering needs; thereby having afflictions, if we are to be followers of Paul as he was of Christ (1Cor.11:1-3). This would truly cause us to love our lives less in this world. Please read: John 12:25 (1)He that loveth his life shall lose it; and (2)he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. Definitions:(1)He that loveth his life shall lose it-5368 phileo-1) to love a) to approve of b) to like c) to sanction d) to treat affectionately or kindly, to welcome, to befriend 2) to show signs of love; to kiss 3) to be fond of; to have affection for. (2)he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal-3404 miseo (mis-eh’-o); from a primary misos (hatred); to detest (especially to perse-

cute); by extension, to love less: KJV— hate (-ful). Acts 20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 1 Cor 4:11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; 12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: 13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day. 14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. 15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.(KJV) 1 Cor 9:6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working? 1 Cor 9:11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? 12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? evertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. (KJV) 1 Cor 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. 15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! 17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. 18 What is my (1)reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ (2)without charge,

that I (3)abuse not my power in the gospel.19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. Definitions: (1)reward-3408 misthos (mis-thos’); apparently a primary word; pay for services (literally or figuratively), good or bad: KJV— hire, reward, wages.1) dues paid for work, wages, hire (2)Without charge77 adapanos ; from 1 (as negative particle); and 1160; costless, i.e. gratuitous: KJV— without expense, requiring no outlay, costing nothing: KJV— cost. (3)Abuse not-2710 katachraomai; from 2596 and 5530; to overuse, i.e. misuse: KJV— abuse. 2 Cor 11:6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.7 Have I committed an offence in (1)abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God (2)freely? 8 I robbed other churches, taking (3)wages of them, to do you (4)service. 9 And when I was present with you, and (5)wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. (KJV) Definitions: (1)Abasing myself5013 tapeinoo-to make low, to bring low b) metaphorically, to bring into a humble condition, to reduce to lower circumstances 2) to abase 3) to be ranked below others who are honored or rewarded 4) to humble or to abase myself by humble living c) 4) devoid of all haughtiness (2)Freely-1432 dorean (do-rehan’); gratuitously (literally or figuratively): KJV— without a cause, freely, for naught. (3)Wages of them-3800 opsonion-1) a soldier’s pay, an allowance; that part of the soldier’s support given in place of pay (that is, rations) and the money in which he is paid (4) to do you Service-1248 diakonia (dee-ak-on-ee’-ah); from 1249; attendance (as a servant, etc.); figuratively (eleemosynary) aid, (official) service (especially of the Christian teacher, of the diaconate): KJV— (ad-) minister (-ing, -tration, -try), office, relief, service (-ing). (5)Wanted-5302 hustereo (hoos-ter-eh’-o); from 5306; to be later, i.e. (by implication) to be inferior; generally, to fall short (be deficient): KJV— come behind (short), be destitute, fail, lack, suffer need,

(be in) want, be the worse. Phil 4:12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.” Even though the Church is instructed to support the needy saints, the apostles and believing brethren before us did not abandon the flock “congregations” because of the lack of financial support or any other hardship, as is done in the religious world today. They suffered needs! This is because they were not “HIRELI GS” and cared for the souls of the flock (2Cor.12:14-15; 1Thes.2:8). The apostles and believing brethren before us did not approach congregations with resumes to determine their pay, as it is done in the religious world today; because they were not “HIRELI GS”. There are those in the religious world today moving from one congregation to another, until the “money is right”. There are those today with family incomes that are sufficient not only for their needs, but for their wants also; yet they take money from the Church, just because they are “preaching”. Finally, there are those today that take money for anniversaries, birthdays, vacations, song leading, secretaries, etc. There are no examples by the apostles and believing brethren before us, of these prestated practices “traditions” because, they were not “HIRELI GS”. Some might say “we don’t do that here”. We must remember according to scripture that if we fellowship in any manner, those that are partakers of any unscriptural practices “traditions”, we are then partakers of their evil deeds (Gal.6:7-9; Eph.5:1-11; 2Thes.3:6-9; 2John1:9-11). The scriptures are clear on what the Church of and by Christ (Rom.16:16-18; Eph. 3:21), is to continue steadfast in and that is the apostles’ doctrine (Acts 2:41-42). The traditions, examples, and commands for the Church that Christ is building (Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:41&47) are also found in the apostles’ doctrine, and they are clear, and must be followed circumspectly (Eph.5:13-17), to be right (righteous) with God through Christ Jesus, and his apostles. (John17:17-21; Acts 1:1-2; Philp.3:16-20; Col.2:6-10; 1Thes.1:5-6; 2Thes.2:10-17; 3:6-7; 2Pet.3:1-3)

WHAT IS TRUTH? HE THAT IS A HIRELING (JOHN 10:12) John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.13The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. John 10:12 But he that is an (1)hireling, and not the (2)shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the (3)wolf coming, and (4)leaveth the sheep, and (5)fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.(KJV) Definitions: (1) Hireling-3411 misthotos (mis-tho-tos’); from 3409; a wage-worker: KJV— hired servant, hireling; 3409 misthoo; from 3408; to let out for wages, i.e. (middle voice) to hire: KJV— hire. (2) Shepherd-4166 poimen (poy-mane’); a shepherd (literally or figuratively): KJV— shepherd, pastor. (3) Wolf-3074 lukos; 1) a wolf 2), used of cruel, greedy, rapacious, destructive men (4) Leaveth-863 aphiemi (af-ee’ay-mee); from 575 to send forth, in various applications (as follow): KJV— cry, forgive, forsake, lay aside, leave, omit, put (send) away, remit, suffer, yield up. (5) Fleeth-5343 pheugo (fyoo’-go); apparently a primary verb; to run away (literally or figuratively); by implication, to shun; by analogy, to vanish: KJV— escape, flee (away). According to the apostle Peter we are to be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the apostles of the Lord (2Pet. 3:2) John 10:12 ... he that is an hireling: Eccl 5:10 He that loveth silver

shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? > (please read 1John2:15-17) (KJV) Isa 56:9 All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. 10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. 11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. Ezek 34:1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock. 4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. 5 And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered. 6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. 7 Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 8 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; 9 Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; 10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. 11 For thus saith the Lord

GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.(KJV) Let’s be honest with ourselves Col.3:9-10; Rev.21:8, who do you know that truly fits the scriptural office of a bishop/elder or deacon? If those in these positions are not following the scriptural commands and examples of this office, then they are out of order and are disqualified for the office according to the apostles’ doctrine. They must also be withdrawn from (2Thes. 3:6-7), if they continue to hold their positions. Now let’s read the scriptural blueprint if you will, for these offices: 1 Tim 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be (1)blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, (2)no striker, (3) not greedy of filthy lucre; but (4)patient, (5)not a brawler, (6)not covetous; Definitions: (1)blameless-423 anepileptos-1) not apprehended, that cannot be laid hold of, not open to censure, irreproachable; cannot be reprehensible 1. (adj.) cannot Cause shame or disgrace. (2)no striker-4131 plektes (plake’-tace); from 4141; a smiter, i.e. (quarrelsome person): KJV— striker.1) bruiser, ready for a blow contentious (3)not greedy-146 aischrokerdes-eager for base gain, greedy for money (4)patient1933 epieikes (ep-ee-ikace’);from 1909 and 1503; appropriate, i.e. (by implication) mild: 1) seemingly, suitable 2) equitable, KJV— gentle, moderation, patient. (5)not a brawler269 amachos (am’-akh-os);from 1 (as a negative particle) and 3163; peaceable: KJV— not a brawler.2) not contentious 3) abstaining from fighting (6)not covetous-866 aphilarguros (afil-ar’-goo-ros); from 1 (as a negative particle) and 5366; unavaricious: KJV— without covetousness, not greedy of filthy lucre, not loving money. 1 Tim 3:4 One that (7)ruleth (8)well his own house, having his children (9)in subjection with all (10)gravity; Definitions: (7)One that ruleth4291 proistemi (pro-is’-taymee); from 4253 and 2476; to stand before, i.e. (in rank) to preside, or (by implication): KJV— maintain, be over, rule, to set or to place before, a) to set over, b) to be over, to superin-

tend, to preside over, c) to be a protector or guardian (to give aid), d) to care for, to give attention to profess honest occupations. (8) his own house well 2573 kalos (kal-oce’);adverb from 2570; well (usually morally): KJV— (in a) good (place), honestly, (full) well, excellently, well a) rightly, so that there shall be no room for blame, well, truly b) excellently, nobly, commendably c) honorably, in honor; (9) having his children in subjection-5292 hupotage (hoop-ot-ag-ay’); from 5293; subordination: KJV—subjection, 2) obedience, 5293 hupotasso (hoop-ot-as’-so);to subordinate; reflexively, to obey: KJV— be under obedience (obedient), (be, make) subject (10) with all gravity-4587 semnotes-1) the characteristic of a thing or person which entitles to reverence and respect, dignity, majesty, sanctity 2) honor, purity 1 Tim 3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6 Not a (11)novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.(KJV) Definition: Not a (11)novice3504 neophutos (neh-of’-ootos); from 3501 and a derivative of 5453; newly planted, i.e. (figuratively) a young convert (“neophyte”): KJV— novice. 1 Tim 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not (1)muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. Food for thought: Deut 24:14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: 15 At his day thou shalt give

him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.(see also Titus 1:5-9) Definition:(1)muzzle 5392 phimoo (fee-mo’-o);from phimos (a muzzle); to muzzle: KJV— muzzle.1) to close the mouth with a muzzle 2) metaphorically: a) to stop the mouth, to make speechless, to reduce to silence b) to become speechless 1 Pet 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.(KJV) Now again, after reading the above scriptures, HONESTLY, who do you know fits the scriptural qualifications, for the office of a bishop/elder or deacon? John 10:12 ... the wolf coming, (KJV) Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are (1)ravening (2)wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Definitions:(1)ravening-727 harpax-1) rapacious, ravenous 2) an extortioner, a robber (2)wolves-3074 lukos-1) a wolf 2) metaphorically, used of cruel, greedy, rapacious, destructive men Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God,

WHAT IS TRUTH? HE THAT IS A HIRELING (JOHN 10:12) which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 2 Tim 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not (1)endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, (2)endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.(KJV) Definitions:(1) will not endure sound doctrine 430 anechomai (an-ekh’-om-ahee); middle voice from 303 and 2192; to hold oneself up against, i.e. (figuratively) put up with, 2) to hold oneself erect and firm 3) to sustain, to bear: KJV— bear with, to endure, forbear, suffer. (2)endure afflictions-2553 kakopatheo; from the same as 2552; to undergo hardship: KJV— be afflicted, endure afflictions (hardness), suffer trouble.1) to suffer (or endure) evils, troubles) John 10:13 ... careth not for the sheep. (KJV) Phil 2:19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.(KJV) 1 Tim 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and (1)destitute of the truth, (2)supposing that (3)gain is godliness: from such

(4)withdraw thyself. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Definitions: (1)Destitute of the truth -650 apostereo (ap-os-tereh’-o); from 575 and stereo (to deprive); to despoil: KJV— defraud, destitute, kept back by fraud. filthy, lasciviousness, unbridled lust, excess, wantonness, outrageousness, shamelessness, insolence.li·cen·tious (lº-sµn“sh…s) adj. 1. Lacking moral discipline or ignoring legal restraint, especially in sexual conduct. (2) covetousness-4124 pleonexia (pleh-on-ex-ee’-ah); from 4123; avarice, i.e. (by implication) fraudulency, extortion: KJV— covetous (-ness) practices, greediness.greedy desire to have more, covetousness, avarice (3) feigned words-4112 plastos (plas-tos’); from 4111; moulded, i.e. (by implication) artificial or (figuratively) fictitious (false): KJV— feigned. (4) make merchandise of you -1710 emporeuomai (em-por-yoo’-omahee); i.e. (by implication) to trade: KJV— buy and sell, make merchandise. 4) to use a person or a thing for gain Now concerning the collection for the Saints (1Cor.16:1). The collection is for the support of all EEDY Saints, according to the rules of the APOSTLES’ doctrine; including EEDY ministers and elders, not of covetousness. There seems to be no misunderstanding with verse 2 of 1Cor.16, in that it is done on the first day of the week, but the understanding seems to fail with verse 1, (the collection for the saints). The Apostle Paul, one that is our example (1Cor.11:13), practiced what he preached, because he preached, without charge, so that the gospel would not be hindered (1Cor.9:12). Paul, one of the apostles that the Church MUST follow, worked with his hands. In other words, he had a craft, an occupation (tentmaker) Acts18:3, so that he would not be chargeable to any of them. According to scripture it was not because they the apostles had not the power, but to be an example for us to follow them. Paul continued to teach by command that if any would not work, neither should he eat (Acts 20:32-35; Eph.4:28; 1Thes.2:9; 2Thes.3:7-15). But in the religious world today, there are those two or three that are guaranteed a check, whether they are needy or not, some not working at all. Again there are no commands, and or examples for salaried preachers, given in the apostles’ doctrine, to the Church that Christ is building. Many, we believe, misunderstand “muzzle not the ox” 1Cor.9:9-18; 1Tim.5:17-18. We must remember that as long as the ox is muzzled it CA OT EAT, and if it cannot eat it CA OT WORK. Likewise, neither should one be kept from teaching or preaching the WORD, or

living for that matter, because of the lack of support if NEEDED (note the muzzle definition: (1)muzzle not-5392 phimoo (fee-mo’-o);from phimos (a muzzle); to muzzle: KJV— muzzle.1) to close the mouth with a muzzle, to muzzle 2) metaphorically: a) to stop the mouth, to make speechless, to reduce to silence b) to become speechless ). This is not the case today. There are those professing to be “Religious Leaders”, living well and are able to go anywhere they want to, even on vacations with their own salaries. This being true, surely they can go and PREACH THE WORD without having to rob God [covetousness]. We believe according to scripture we should get a job and go to work, to take care of our own needs, as well as the needs of others. Please read: “1Thes 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing”. Remember, a working ox will only eat what it needs to sustain. It is a shame to say that the ox understands more about “ EED”, than we do. If we are to follow Paul and the other apostles, as they followed Christ, we MUST follow the examples and or commands for the support of EEDY ministers, elders, and members (saints), or we will be [disorderly]. Acts 18:1 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; 2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. 3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers. (KJV) 1 Cor 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.(KJV) 1 Cor 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him

in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 3 And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. (KJV) Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 1Thes 2:8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be (1)chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. Definition:(1)Chargeable-1912 epibareo; from 1909 and 916; to be heavy upon, i.e. (pecuniarily) to be expensive to; figuratively, to be severe towards: KJV— be chargeable to, overcharge. pe·cu·ni·ar·y-1. WHAT IS TRUTH? HE THAT IS A HIRELING (JOHN 10:12) 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they (1)work, and eat their own bread. 13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. 15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.(KJV) Definition:(1)work and eat their own bread -2038 ergazomai (ergad’-zom-ahee); to toil (as a task, occupation, etc.) be engaged in or with, etc.: KJV— commit, do, labor for, trade (by), work. 2 Cor 9:5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of (1)bounty, and not as of (2)covetousness. Dear readers we believe according to the apostles’ doctrine, as they received it by The Holy Ghost, those professing to be of Christ MUST be mindful of the same question; and the results. Remember as always, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the Preponderance of SCRIPTURES; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of SCRIPTURE. Again we believe this allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Again, thank you so much for your interest in the WORD of TRUTH; Grace and Salvation; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP to HEAVEN and away from HELL! “2 Tim 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” E-mail Address: bibletruth1@sbcglobal.net Fax #: (281) 987-9703
