2015 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED La Porte, Texas-Having to drive down to Sylvan Beach in La Porte, Texas, we went on rainy wet day in the Dodge Durango. Man it gave me an opportunity to check out the vehicle under some tough situations. To start with the 3.6 Liter Pentaster 24valve V6 engine delivered on its promise of 25 miles per gallon and it’s 290 horsepower showed itself as it climb the Houston Ship Channel Bridge on Loop 610. Let us not forget there is
an available V8 Hemi 5.7 liter engine as option on one of the five models made available for the Durango this model year. The AWD model really get the attention of most driver with the overall smooth operation. The 8-speed automatic transmission seems to adapt to any driving conditions. Inside the new Durango you are in automobile Heaven when you check out the flush and plush layout with padded dash and
state-of-the-art styling with wrap-around dash integrates with the doors. When it comes to technology Dodge went all out with baby starting with the three-spoke leather wrapped and padded steering wheel with mounted controls and paddle shifters. When it come to instrument cluster again the Durango set a new standard with an 8.4inch display touch screen. A Premium sound system with 506-watt gets you in the grove while going down the road. A new gear shift selector with a knob to twist. Rear seat entertainment is excellent with DVD on the back of the front seats with separate headphones so each rear seat passenger can enjoy their very own movie or DVD. With a power rear door the Durango can be used for
shopping with easy low access to cargo space in the rear. If you are into towing the new Durango equipped with the V8 came tow up to 7400 pounds and is equipped with Sway control along with regular ESP and Electronic Roll Mitigation producing individual braking to help reduce the chances of rollover and help stabilize the vehicle while taking curves. This is further enhanced by allspeed traction control reducing wheel hoping during curves at high speeds. One thing is for

sure the new Durango is clearly one of the most technology sound vehicles on the road today. With five models to choose from the new Durango certainly has something for all buyers. The R/T, SXT, SXT-Plus, Limited and the Citadel and most are equipped with a tremendous amount of standard features. My only regret during our week long test is La Porte, Texas was the further we had to go that week.

THIS WEEK IN BASKETBALL-PLANO WEST EDGED CLEAR LAKE ON GAME WINNING SHOT By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View San Antonio, Texas-In one of the most exciting games in the history of the state championship, it was Plano West edging Clear Lake 56-54. Senior forward D. J. Hogg hit one from 18 feet out as the big clock at the Alamodome sounded off giving the Wolves the class 6A boys state title. In a game that saw Clear Lake jumped to an early 9-2 lead only to watch as Plano West came within three at 16-13 after one. It was more of the same in the second period as Christian West scored 16 points in the game getting off to a great start. With help from Bradley George who had 14 points and a team leading 7 assists Clear Lake led it by 6 at the half and 7 at the end of three periods. But in the fourth period it was all D. J. Hogg who scored 16 of his team’s 22 points and walked away with the MVP. Clear Lake had a pretty good plan under coach Tommy Penders as guards Christian West, Bradley George and Orion Lewis beat West Wolves off the dribble all night long and fed Chris Stenerson and Alex Westby all game long. Fact is Christian West had the ball with 37 seconds to go and the score tied at 54 and made his move with 15 ticks left but was called for an offensive foul leaving plenty of time for Plano-West to set up Hogg Historic making shot as the clock experienced. The Falcons closed the season at 35-3 and made a great showing for H-Town. It was a well played game and each team took turns making the other pay for defensive mistakes. Tyler Davis
had 14 points after connecting on 6 of 8 from his center position and he too is going to Texas A & M this fall. Mickey Mitchell added 9 points and 6 assists for the Wolves who closed the year out at 33-2 and never lost a game to a Texas team. Soso Jamabo who signed to play football at UCLA this fall added 7 points in the win. Congratulations are in order for coach Anthony Morgan and his staff on a job well done! LA CASTER BEATS BEAUMO T OZE FOR CLASS 5A TITLE San Antonio, Texas-Head coach Ferrin Douglas was all smiles after his Tigers clawed their way past a good Beaumont Ozen team 59-47 for their first ever boys basketball state championship. “Yes sir you know coach Beverly Day-Humphrey won 11 track and field championships so I think it’s about time we get one in hoops you think. Douglas a graduate of Howard Payne University went on to say his team worked very hard and played well because Ozen was a good solid basketball team. Elijah Thomas led the charge 17 points and 9 rebounds despite sitting out most of the first half in foul trouble. The big 6 feet 9 inch center also made a three point shot. “I’m a shooter man, naw just joking, but our team worked very hard to get here and we just wanted to make a great showing for the Dallas Metro-Plex. Already signed to attend Texas A & M this fall the big guy just simply made it look easy and at one point the slammed a couple home to let Ozen know he had could get rough if he had too. But the mild-mannered Center hit on 8
of 11 from field and was an easy pick for MVP of the Class 5A game. But wing player Antwon Portley led all scorers with 21 points in this game. Portley made good on 8 of 12 from the foul line as Ozen could not stop him off the dribble. John Comeaux led the Panthers 15 points and was the only players in double figures for the game. Coach Marquis Saveat and his staff coached the Panthers to a great 34-4 record this season. Lancaster’s JaColby Pemberton added 8 points and 8 rebounds for the Tigers as they closed out the season at 34-4. Guard Dominique Fobbs added 7 points and 5 boards in the win as the Tigers jumped to a big 16-5 lead in the first period and never looked back. BRIDGEPORT ROLL PAST ROSS STERLI G FOR CLASS 4A STATE TITLE San Antonio, Texas-It was all Bridgeport in the class 4A game as the Raiders of Ross Sterling just couldn’t get going. Trailing only 14-9 after one period the Raider fell into a big second period hole as they were outscored 19-7 and then 27-21 and 23-16 as the night went on. Caleb Smith had 23 points and 8 rebounds mostly in the early going and Devonte Patterson went wild for 29 points and 15 boards to seal the Raiders doom.
Andrea Young of the Sterling Raiders considers it a learning curve for his players. “We are happy with the way this year went and this was a great experience for our kids to come here and play for a state title”. Young an outstanding player in his days at Texas Southern University under the direction of the great Robert Moreland. “I take things that I learned from coach Moreland and put them in place and man let me tell you it worked well for us“. When center Curtlon Wesley got in early foul trouble the Raiders could get their offense going. “We kind of like to work inside out and with Wesley out it hurt us and we fell into a big hole said coach Young. But thanks to the great play from Corey Burks 18 points and Joshua Young 17 points and 9 rebounds the Raiders hung in there until midway in the third. By that time Smith and Patterson were taking turns running up the score from all over the court. A total of 25 fouls were called on Sterling while only 14 fouls were called on Bridgeport in the contest. Keenan Holdman added 12 points and 9 boards for Bulls and Ethan Chapman chipped in 11 points and 3 assists as well as
3 rebounds as the Bulls rolled to the title. BROCK WO THE CLASS 3A TITLE WITH A 37-32 WI OVER RA DOLPH The Class 2A title went to Canadian who beat Big Sandy 68-60 , Big Sandy is home of Tampa Bay head football Coach Lovie Smith. The Class A title went to Texline who beat Lenorah Grady 76-55.

LADY PANTHERS CLAIM THIRD SWAC BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP ARLINGTON, Texas – Prairie View A&M clinched its third SWAC Bowling Championship in school history as they held off rival Texas Southern for 4-3 decision at the Bowing ITRC. The Lady Panthers remained red hot to open the championship round as they bowled a pair of 200-plus games to jump out to an early 2-0 advantage. However, the Lady Panthers would cool off in games three and four as TSU would fight back by squeaking out a 165156 win in game three and a 188-180 decision in game four to knot the contest. Head coach Glenn White, the architect of PVAMU's bowling renaissance, had been down this road before as it was beginning to resemble the 2011 SWAC Championship which also came down to the wire against Southern. White regrouped his team and they responded in a huge way by powering past TSU with a 263154 margin to set up the clinching match. However, TSU would bowl its highest score of the
match (221) as they forced a seventh and final game after the win. The final match opened up very tight until PVAMU had a strike fest midway to create some much-needed separation as they led 184-158 entering the 10th and final frame. TSU closed out the final frame with a vengeance and briefly led by a few pins but it was too little too late as the Lady Panthers closed the match out with a strong 10th frame and finished with a 222 and the school's third title. Prairie View A&M had one solid tournament from start to finish as they only
dropped one match out of eight. The team also peaked at the right time as they bowled 11 games with 200-plus pins in two days.Alexis Borman, a sophomore from Allen, Texas, hreturned to DFW Metroplex and claimed the SWAC MVB (Most Valuable Bowler) honor as she bowled 14 frames, tossing six strikes and seven spares. Borman only allowed one open frame. The contest will be shown on ESPNU next Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. The team will hold a watch party at a location to be announced later in the week.

JOSHUA YOUNG-STERLING
By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View San Antonio, Texas-When the chips are down is when the best of true athlete shows. That’s what happened as Sterling simply were outmanned and roughed up by Bridgeport in the class 4A state title game. But forward Joshua Young kept his cool and scored 17 points and grabbed a team leading 9 rebounds and all during the timeouts he kept telling his team don’t give up. “I kept telling everyone to keep playing hard because that’s what it’s all about”. Young who made a great showing for the scouts and certainly is going to help someone program this fall. Beating Sterling with just 6 guys was like looking in the mirror because the Raiders normally go with a 6 man rotation themselves. “We have to do a lot more running because we use 6 guys most of the time”. Winning the KHOU Channel 11 “Athlete of the week” Young went and took is SAT on Saturday morning and played in
the state championship game later on the same day. “I just did what I had to do and we are happy to be here because it shows hard work really does play off”. When asked about coming to State Young said it meant a lot to be part of the first team in Ross Sterling History to go to State in boys basketball.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THE LESSON: THE AUTHORIZATION OF EASTER? Please Get your Bibles and Follow this Study! Is the Observance of Easter, by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God through Jesus Christ and his Apostles?
We ask this question because, those of us that proclaim to be Christians, have been given a commandment by the words of the apostles of our Lord and Savour Jesus Christ; “1Thes 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” But first, bear with us as we be scripturally reminded of the order of things, if you will, “The Chain of Command” in the belief of GOD. Jesus DEFINES those that are and those that are NOT of God, please read; “John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.” God made it clear in His Word, that we MUST hear Jesus Christ His beloved son, and in verse 8, him ONLY; “Matt.17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.” John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. Jesus, the only one that God has commanded us to hear, tells us how we must believe on him; “John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.20 either pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” We must believe on Christ only in the manner he has stated, through his Apostle’s word, simply because he said so; being the head of every man; “1 Cor 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
Before Jesus ascended back into heaven, he left instructions with his apostles; “Matt 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” These instructions are for the one church that Jesus is building; “Matt 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Upon what rock; Christ for he is the Head of the church? “Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”(See Eph. 4:1416, 5:23-24) Jesus gave instructions to his Apostles, the ones that God gave him, on how to run HIS church, as they were guided by The Holy Ghost. No one else was given this authority. Remember he told them in verses 16 thru 18 of Matt. 28th chapter, that all power had been given him, by his Father in heaven and in earth. Jesus also told them in verses 19&20 to go and teach all nations, and to baptize. He also made it clear by what names baptism was to be done and what things they were to teach to be observed, and those were the things Jesus had commanded them. There were also things that he had yet to tell his apostles, after ascending back into heaven. According to scripture this was to be done by The Holy Ghost “The Comforter”, The Spirit of Truth, please read; “John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”
How then MUST we believe and hear Jesus? According to Jesus, it is NOT through some voice that comes to us, but rather through his APOSTLES words as THEY were guided by The Holy Ghost; the things that are WRITTEN. Please read; “John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.“Eph 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: 3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;”. “I Jn 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.” We MUST remember the Church by Christ (see Eph.3:2021), the one he is building, and is the Head of, has been commanded not to follow traditions and commandments of men (see Matt. 15:8-10; Col.2:8-12; 1823; Titus1:13-14), but to follow the traditions and commandments of the apostles which is found in New Testament scripture (Acts 2:41-42; 1Cor.11:12; Philp.4:9; 2Thes.2:13-15; 3:6). It is true; Jesus and his Apostles did observed the Passover, before his death. Jesus was born under the Law (seeGal.4:4), and so was his Apostles. After his cruel death on the cross; the New Testament, which was in his blood (see1Cor.11:25), and after His resurrection, we find no scriptural evidence of him observing such. Neither do we find any instructions in the apostles’ doctrine and or word, for the Church that Christ is build-
ing, (Acts 2:47) to observe such. We believe that we are SAFE and COMPLETE ONLY in Christ Jesus, NOT in Moses, Elias or anyone else, note what the apostle Paul admonished the Church in Colosse to do; “Col 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”
Remember Christ left the apostles and only them instructions, and or commands on the things that ARE to be OBSERVED (see Matt.28:16-20), by the Church that he is the head of ; “Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the (1)preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; Definition: (1)preeminence4409 proteuo (prote-yoo’-o); from 4413; to be first, to hold the first place (in rank or influence): KJV— have the preeminence. We must also remember that Jesus Christ, the only begotten of God was and is perfect, and so is The Holy Spirit. They did not forget anything, so that even before the deaths of all the apostles, there were offices put in place for the overseeing of the Church by Christ, the one that he is building (see Matt.16:1618; Acts20:16-17, 26-31, Philp.1:1; 1Tim.3:1-12; 5:17;
Titus1:5-11; Heb.13:17-18). They, as well as all those that professes to be Christians, must follow the traditions and commandments of the apostles as they were guided by the Holy Spirit, until The Chief Shepherd shall appear; “1 Pet 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; (1)not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” “2Pet 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:” Definition: (1)not for filthy lucre-147 aischrokerdos (aheeskhrok-er-doce’); adverb from 146; sordidly: KJV— for filthy lucre’s sake, eagerness for base gain; 146 aischrokerdes-eager for base gain, greedy for money I hope we are clear on the order of things (chain of command) according to New Testament scripture. Now let us begin to answer the question; “Is the Observance of Easter, by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God through Jesus Christ and his Apostles?” Let us start with the two origins and there traditions. Now let us by scripture, prove Easter #1. Easter, which means Passover, was given by Moses from God to be OBSERVED by the children of Israel according to the law. It was never given to the Church by Christ, to be observed by Christians according to the Apostle’s doctrine and or word. Christ is the end of the Law (see John 1:17, Rom. 10:1-5). Notice the difference in the two Easters, the first one we can find scripture for the customs, traditions and sacrifices that was set in place. Again this was given to Moses by God, for the Israelites and for a specific reason. The preparation of the foods that they were to partake of was specified by God through Moses, Please read… Ref. THE AUTHORIZATION OF EASTER? the Passover (the meal, the day, the festival or the special sacrifices connected with it); 1) the paschal sacrifice (which was accustomed to be offered for the people’s deliverance of old from Egypt) 2) the paschal lamb, that is, the lamb the Israelites were accustomed to kill and eat on the 14th day of the month of Nisan (the first month of their year) in memory of the day on which their fathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door posts with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might pass over their dwellings; the paschal feast, the feast of the Passover, extending from the 14th to the 20th day of the month Nisan: KJV— Easter, Passover. Exod 12:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: 4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the (1)purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. 13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. Definition: (1)purtenance thereof-7130 qereb; midst, among, the inner part, the middle a) the inward part: c) entrails (used of sacrificial animals) Exod 12:47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. The first Easter “Passover” was authorized by God through Moses, to Israel and is of the truth. The instructions of observance and the dates were set, by God, and it was much earlier than A.D. 325. If Christians are under the Old Law “The Law of Moses”, which we are not according to the apostle’s doctrine, then all of the instructions of observance including the SACRIFICES and the dates given, must be followed circumspect, to be right “righteous” with God. There were no fables, nor Greek gods or goddesses, in it. We must remember Christians MUST follow Christ through his Apostles, not Moses. Christ is the end of the Law (see John 1:17, Rom. 10:1-5). Now let us by scripture disprove Easter #2. EASTER “Bill Petro, your friendly neighborhood historian www.billpetro.com/holidayhistory” “The most joyous of Christian festivals, and one of the first celebrated by the Christians, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox. The English word “Easter” corresponding to the German “Oster”, reveals the association of many Easter customs with those of the Teutonic tribes of central Europe. When Christianity reached these people it incorporated many of their heathen rites into the great Christian feast day. Easter month, corresponding to our April, was dedicated to Eostre, or Ostara, goddess of the spring. There was in common the time of spring and the triumph of life over death. The practice of eating eggs on Easter Sunday and giving them as gifts to friends and children probably arose because, in the earlier days of the church, eggs were forbidden food during Lent (the 40 days before Easter) and were therefore always eaten on Easter Sunday. But the custom of coloring eggs goes back to the ancient Egyptians and Persians, who practiced this custom during their spring festival. The Easter hare, or bunny, comes from antiquity as well. The hare is associated with the moon in the legends of ancient
Egypt. It belongs to the night when it comes out to feed. It is born with its eyes opened and, like the moon, is “the open-eyed watcher of the skies”. Through the fact that the Egyptian word for hare, “un”, means also “open” and “period”, the hare became associated with the idea of periodicity, both lunar and human, and so became a symbol of fertility and of the renewal of life. As such, the hare became linked with the Easter, or paschal, eggs. In the U.S. the Easter rabbit is fabled to lay the eggs in the nests prepared for it or to hide them for the children to find. Although Easter was celebrated very early in the church, its date was not established until A.D. 325 when Constantine convened the council at Nicea, where it was decided that it should be observed on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox, to be fixed each year at Alexandria, then the center of astronomical science. The date is an approximation, and may vary. This means that its date may vary as much as 35 days!” Bill Petro, your friendly neighborhood historian www.billpetro.com/holidayhistory The second Easter has been disproved simply because, not one scripture was given for the instructions and dates of observance. Not one of the traditional observance given, matched any of the ones given by God. It is also stated that “Easter” is a Christian festival, ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE this is ERROR, which is FALSE DOCTRI E! We must remember “Christian” and “Christianity” are not just words, but are lifestyles! Using the apostle’s doctrine as a reference, as the Church of and by Christ has been commanded to do, Christian and Christianity are the two MOST misused and misapplied words on earth. Christians MUST follow Christ through his Apostle’s word (John17:20-23). The truth is, the only Easter/ Passover authorized by God was given by God through Moses, to the children of Israel “those under the Old Law”. The second one was given to man by man in A.D. 325 MUCH too late to be of God or Christ for that matter, and it has not one custom or tradition given by God, Christ or his Apostles; thereby it is not of the truth. It’s full of customs and traditions of men; men such as “heathens and Greek goddesses”. It also consists of Fables, which are lies; such as egg laying rabbits. Not only does rabbits lay eggs according to the lie that children are told, but they lay hard-boiled, colored ones. This lie is passed on from generation to generation. Children should be taught the truth because the scriptures teach that all liars will have their part, see Rev.21:8. We all may fall short and lie at some point in our lives, but to practice, to observe and to look forward to lying,
makes us LIARS. The scriptures teach that Jesus’ resurrection was early on the first day of the week, at the end of the Sabbath, OT on Easter Sunday or Christian Sabbath. “Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.” “Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.” (see Matt.28:1; Luke24:1) Christian Sabbath, according to scripture is a contradiction, in that according to the apostles’ doctrine the disciples, which were called Christians, came together on the first day of the week, “Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” “Acts 20:6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. 7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to (1)break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.”….Definition: (1)break bread 2806 klao-to break used in the New Testament of the breaking of bread (communion). The (1)Sabbath on the other hand, which was the seventh day of the week, ended the Passover; (Definition: (1)Sabbath 4521 sabbaton (sab’-bat-on); of Hebrew origin [7676]; the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); 1) the seventh day of each week which was a sacred festival on which the Israelites were required to abstain from all work a) the institution of the sabbath, the law for keeping holy every seventh day of the week: KJV— sabbath.) All must believe the truth to be right with God, please read; “II Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but
Page 12
had (1)pleasure in (2)unrighteousness.” Definitions: (1)pleasure-2106 eudokeo (yoo-dok-eh’-o); 1) it seems good to one, is one’s good pleasure a) to think it good, to choose, to determine, to decide b) to do willingly c) to be ready to, to prefer, to choose rather 2) to be well pleased with, to take pleasure in, to be favorably inclined toward one: KJV— think good, (be well) please (-d), be the good (have, take) pleasure, be willing. (2)in unrighteousness-93 adikia (ad-ee-kee’-ah); from 94; (legal) injustice (properly, the quality, by implication, the act); morally, wrongfulness (of character, life or act) 3) a deed violating law and justice, act of unrighteousness: KJV— iniquity, unjust, unrighteousness, wrong. Now let us set by New Testament Scriptures the foundation of belief. But first let us look at the only place the word “Easter” is found in the bible and it’s of Aramaic origin; it was used to define the feast of the Passover. According to Acts 12:1-4, these Jews were not of the body, the Church that Christ was building (Col.1:1820; Matt.16:17-18), because it pleased them that king Herod stretched forth his hand to vex certain of the Church. The scriptures then go on to name those of the Church that King Herod vexed, killing James, the brother of John with the sword, and putting Peter in prison. Acts 12:1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people (KJV) We must remember All FLESH including GENERATIONS ends in Christ; we are neither Jew nor Greek in Christ, according to scripture we MUST become NEW SPIRITUAL creatures, Please read… Ref. Scriptures: Exod 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. 2 Cor 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.(KJV)

(KJV) 1 Cor 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took (1)bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.(KJV) Definition: (1)bread-740 artos (ar’-tos); from 142; bread (as raised) or a loaf: KJV— (shew-) bread, loaf.
We have been looking but, we have not been able to find in the Apostle’s word, Lent, Palm Sunday, Good Friday or even Easter Sunday, which again would be a CONTRADICTION and CONFUSION(1 Cor 14:33), thereby making them traditions of men. According to scripture, true followers of Christ “Christians” cannot, MUST not, be followers of traditions and customs, not authorized by Christ through his Apostles. Because if we are, then there is a command given by the apostles, for such ones, please read; II Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 6 ow we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (1)ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that (2)walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. Definitions: (1)ye withdraw yourselves-4724 stello (stel’lo); probably strengthened from the base of 2476; properly, to set fast (“stall”), i.e. (figuratively) to repress (reflexively, abstain from associating with): KJV— avoid, withdrawself. (2)walketh 4043 peripateo-to walk: b) Hebrew for, to live 1) to regulate one’s life 2) to conduct oneself 3) to pass one’s life We were able to find Easter “Passover”, not as the Church observing it, but the Jews, before being converted to Christ. There is no need for Jews or anyone else to observe Easter/Passover any more. Remember Christ is the end of the Law and there is neither Jew nor Greek in Christ Jesus (see John 1:17, Rom.10:15). We must not frustrate the Grace of God, by observing the things of the law (seeGal.2:1421, 3:1-5). We are all one in Christ, if all hear and obey the law of God’s only begotten Son (seeJames1:22, Rom.3:27, Gal.6:2), to be right with Him according to scriptures, please read… Ref. Scriptures: John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.(KJV)
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.(KJV) Those that has been baptized into the one Body which is the one Church by the one Lord Jesus Christ, must know and believe according to scripture, there is only one Holy Father and He is not on earth John 17:11-13. The belief and obedience of Eph 4:45 would make all have the one Spirit of the one Faith striving to be followers of Christ “Christians”, after the one Baptism… Ref. Scriptures: Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,(KJV) Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.(KJV) 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and (1)one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Definition: (1)one mediator3316 mesites (mes-ee’tace);from 3319; a go-between, i.e. (simply) an internunciator, or (by implication) a reconciler (intercessor): KJV— mediator.1) one who intervenes between two, either in order to make or restore peace and friendship, or to form a compact, or for ratifying a covenant 2) a medium of communication, a arbitrator We hope it is scripturally clear on the One Mediator between God and man. There is no one else that man can appeal to as a medium of communication, or to make or restore peace and friendship, but Christ, Christ, Christ, Christ, Christ. If there is a mediator, between man and Christ, then that would be two mediators between God and man. According to God, Christ and his Apostles, there is only ONE MEDIATOR. If anything else is taught, it is not of the truth and is false Doctrine! Now to answer the question that was asked at the start of this
Page 13
study. “Is The Observance of Easter, by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God (the one and only Holy Father which is in heaven, through Jesus Christ), the one and only mediator between God and man and His Apostles?” The SCRIPTURAL answer is, ABSOLUTELY OT! If anything else is taught, it is not of the truth and is false Doctrine! Dear reader, remember the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, which is false doctrine, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the PREPONDERANCE OF SCRIPTURES; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of SCRIPTURE. Again we believe this allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Thanks again for your interest in the WORD of TRUTH; GRACE and SALVATION; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP to HEAVEN, and away from HELL, and the continuance in it, is the O LY thing that allows the man of God to be perfect, 2Tim.3:12-17! 2 Cor 13:5 (1)Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be (2)reprobates? 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.(KJV) Definitions: (1)Examine yourselves-3985 peirazo (pi-rad’zo); from 3984; to test (objectively), i.e. endeavor, scrutinize, discipline: KJV— assay, examine, go about, prove. (2)reprobates-96 adokimos (ad-ok’-eemos); unapproved, i.e. rejected; by implication, worthless (literally or morally): KJV— castaway, reprobate. 2 Tim 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. TO THOSE ON THE OUTSIDE DEAR SINNER HEED THIS CALL PRECIOUS is Time. Therefore while you have time, use it to learn and do Gods Commandments for at the end of life is pay time and your pay will be according as your work has been. You will find in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the following: “For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that everyone may recive the things done in his body according to that he hath done, whether it be good or evil.” You will find in John 15:14. “Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.” Solomon said in Proverbs 1:5 “A wise man will hear and will increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain unto wise counsel.” How shall we escape if we neglect to great Salvation: Hebrew 2:1-3 Salvation is to be worked out. ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
D.J. HOGG-PLANO-WEST ERICA OGWUMIKE- CY-WOODS D.J. HOGG-PLA O-WEST San Antonio, Texas-It was one of those games where the end was in doubt all the way until the end. Standing on the floor of the Alamodome moment after he hit a big shot from nearly 3point land to win the first Boys Class 6A state title over Clear Lake, D. J. Hogg could not hold back the tears. With his parents draped all over his 6 feet 8 inch frame and tears of joy running this his cheeks Hogg finally said. “This is crazy, I’ve never hit a shot that won a game before in my career”. He went on to say his teammates kept telling him on keep on shooting even though up until that point the was 8 of 20, but had scored
20 points because he was able to connect on 4 of 11 from long range. Finishing with 22 points on 9 of 21 and 5 rebounds and 3 big blocks the Texas A & M Signee said he simply love his teammates. Hitting three treys in the third period that saw Plano came back from a 6 point deficit at the half and still trailed by 7 at the end of the third. Early in the fourth period Hogg went to work as his team rallied behind his 16 points in the fourth period for the win over a good Clear Lake team. “Our coaches told us to stay focus and keep playing hard and finally those shots starting falling for me”. The big forward said his teammates kept looking for him and when he got the ball in the
closing seconds he knew time was running out so it was catch and shoot. “Once my shots started falling it felt good because people had been doubting us all year long and we wanted to prove them wrong”. He did just that as Plano-West Wolves are the state’s first ever Class 6A Boys State champions. ERICA OGWUMIKE CY-WOODS San Antonio, Texas-With plans on winning the State championship from the start this season. Erica Ogwumike, the youngest of four sisters achieved her goal. Cy-Woods high school took the title in a 57-49 win over Dallas Skyline. Ogwumike led the way with 26 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Each time Skyline would try to come back Erica would simply get a rebound and go coast to coast to put some distance between the two teams. Reflecting back on the regional playoff games Erica said; “The atmosphere was crazy and we love the hype for girls basketball and were physically and mentally team prepared for those game. Beating North
Shore and blasting Westside to get to State tournament. “Coming into my senior year I wanted to be a leader for our team the way Olivia was last year. “She was very mature as a leader of our team and I hope I’m doing well at that this time around”. Moments after she had won the MVP and talking to Fox Southwest, Erica made it clear she just wanted to have fun during the state championship weekend. My sisters Nneka and Chiney told me to just relax and play hard while having fun”. Those sisters should now because they won state titles at Cy-Fair before both became AllAmerican at Stanford University

before starring in the WNBA. Erica plans to follow her sister to Pepperdine University this fall and hope to go after a National title together. Olivia started as a freshmen out there this year. It is also the same school the later Dennis Johnson attended in his college days. Having a goal of going to state and winning was a plus for CyWoods and it turned out just right. Favoring U.S. History in the classroom Erica is leaning toward Business or Pre-Med as college majors but says he would love to see the Corruption in Government stop. Well good luck on that one Erica and good luck at Pepperdine this fall!
D. J. Hogg a six-foot eight-inch senior scored a game high 22 points including a game winner at end as Plano West wins 56-54 over Clear Lake in picture with Dr .Vincent and Dr. Breithaupt
Erica Ogwumike wins it all as number one ranked Cy-Woods lived up to their billing and won the state’s first ever Girls’ Class 6A title!
