2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT 4X4 This time around we are behind the wheel of the all new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4X4 and let me tell you off the bat this one is special. Under the hood is the proven 5.7 Liter V8 MDS VVT engine with fuel safer technology. What it does is drops to 4 cylinders when power is not need and this lower the use of fuel. But when you want to get on down the road all 8 cylinders kick in and you have the most power in class. This engine is mated to an eightspeed automatic BHP 70 transmission. Offering 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway. The new Jeep sends the power to the pavement on 20 inch X 8 inch aluminum polished wheel wrapped by 265/50R20BSW All-Season tires. We are talking about smooth sailing to say the least. Let us not forget the new Jeep has Quadra Drive II their registered trademark 4WD system. Its also equipped with Electronic limited slip rear differential, anti-lock four-wheel disc Heavy Duty brakes and a 3.09 rear axle ratio. The new Jeep has 68 per cent of
its parts from the United States and Canada but the engine is built in Mexico and the transmission in Germany with the final assembly point being Detroit, Michigan. Our test vehicle came is an excellent Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat exterior paint mated to a Grand Canyon Jeep Brown Interior color. Leather-trimmed bucket seats with heat feature for both front and second row seats, the front seats are ventilated as well. Driver will to happy to notice an eight-way power seat with memory and the passengers can’t complain because the front seat passenger gets an eight-way power seat as well. Both front seats also get four-way power lumbar adjustments. Comfort is enhanced further with A/C Auto temperature control with dual/zone control. A

8.4-inch multi-view touch screen display opens the door to the 19-premium speaker complete with subwoofer sound system. This includes navigation with integrated voice command with Bluetooth. You also get a full year of Sirius XM satellite radio along with HD radio. The steering wheel is wood/leather wrapped and even has heat feature for those cold morning. Safety comes at a high premium for the new Jeep also with advanced multi-stage front airbags and supplemental sidecurtains front and rear air bags. Throw in driver inflatable kneebolster airbags and Parkview rear back-up camera. To round it all off the new Jeep has Forward collision warning with mitigation and Hill Start Assist. Warranties are five-year or 100,000 mile power train limited warranty, three-year or 36,000 mile basic limited warranty and Roadside assistance (certain restriction apply-ask dealer for a copy of the limited warranties). In closing let me tell you this new Jeep comes with a base price of just over $50,000 and our test vehicle came in at just over $54,000!

TOYOTA CAMRY XLE 4-DOOR SEDAN STILL PRICED AT 30 GRAND WELL EQUIPPED By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As we continue our closeout on 2013 model we took a look at the Camry XLE and first of all we can’t believed it is priced at 30 Grand for the well equipped model we tested. Starting with a 2.5 Liter 4-cylinder DOHC-16 valve engine with dual VVTI and mated to a 6-speed ECT-I transmission. The power rolls to the pavement on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped by P215/55R 17-inch tires. All translates into 25 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. Now we hope you are beginning to see why this vehicle has been the number one selling vehicle for quite some time. Handling is enhanced by electric power steering and power assisted front solid and rear disc brakes. The NHTSA gives the new Camry a eight-star overall rating with eight-star rating for both front and rear passengers in side crashes. A total of 10 airbags including driver and front passengers knee airbags help make the new Camry one of the safest vehicles in its class. The front seats are whiplash injury-lessen and there is also a
tire pressure monitoring system available on the new Camry. Color-keyed heated folding rearview side mirrors and integrated chrome fog lamps and side rocker panels with chrome inserts. Yes the new Camry is here to stay and one doesn’t have to look very hard to see what’s all the talk about this industry leading product. Inside a dual-zone air climate control greets you with selections to make your trip exciting comfortable. Sounds are handled by a 6.1 audio touch screen with
AM/FM/CD with MP3/WWA and eight speakers. Complete with Aux jacks, USB with I-Pod connection and Bluetooth. Camry offers such features as 8-
way power driver seat and power tilt/slide moon roof. The rear seats at60/40 split folddown and center armrest with cup holder.
Just a couple of the options on this vehicle were the leather package that included 4-way power adjustable front passenger seat and carpeted truck mat set.

BUICK ENCORE OFFERS LUXURY IN A SMALL SUV By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View If you are in the market for a new automobile please take a long look at what’s available, because sometimes good things come in small packages. Take for example as we flash back to the 2013 Buick Encore and found the FWD premium group package is a nice fit for a small family. To begin with the new Encore is a cross model with 51 percent of its parts from Korea, another 18 percent from China and 21 percent from the United States and Canada. With the engine built in the U.S. while the transmission is built in Korea with the final assembly point at Bupyeong GU, IN Korea. But lets deal with the facts. This small SUV is powered by a 1.4 Liter VVT-DOHC four-cylinder engine that cranks out 138 horsepower and 148 lbs per ft of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. We are talking about 25 mile per gallon in the city and 33 on the highway. A 14 gallon
fuel tank and a final drive ratio of 3.53 reduces your trips to the gas pump on long trips. Clearly a five-passenger luxury crossover vehicle that’s turning some heads due to the extraordinary value and at this price. Our test vehicle full loaded came in at under 30 grand and man that’s saying something. With 39.6 cubic inches of head room and 38.8 rear head room plus 40.8 inches of leg room front and 35.8 in the rear. These numbers are normally found in mid-size crossovers. I’d say it safe to say Buick might have something here. Taking cues from the Enclave, the Encore is carving itself a place in a market that crowded to say the least. Let’s just go over some of the features likes Voice-activated Buick Intellilink with full-color display radio support audio streaming from Pandora Internet radio and Stritcher Smart-radio. Available “Active On-Demand” All-wheel drive along with Buick’s first application of Bose Active Noise cancellation tech-
nology. The list goes on with available dual-zone climate control heated steering wheel, rain sense wiper and Bose premium sound system. “One tire” philosophy optimized around 18-inch wheel/tire combination delivers more precise handling and great driving refinement. We kid you not, we are also informed that for 2014 the new Encore will have available rear cross traffic alert and side blind zone alert safety features. The new Encore
will also have enhanced intellilink with text message support, Siri Eyes Free and Smartphone voice recognition pass-through. All this goes with the ten standard airbags and standard rear-vision camera and available lane-departure warning. This all leads to a 4-star rating by the NHTSA with 5-star rating for both driver and front passenger in frontal crashes and 5-star rating for both front and rear seat occupants in side crash-
es plus a four-star rating for rollover in single vehicle crashes. If you’ve been following us over the years you know these are features normally found on Luxury touring sedans that cost twice as much. Keep the name in mind because this vehicle is going to be around for a while and it won’t be long before you are going to be seeing a lot of them on the road!

CHEVY SILVERADO GETS FACE LIFT FOR 2014 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As we roll into the 2014 model year we take a look at the allnew Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 2WD LT Crew Cab. We are talking about notable changes from the hood to the trailer hitch. New EcoTec3 engines provide class-leading V-8 fuel efficiency and towing capacity. The new high strength steel makes the frames and cabs stronger and lighter. A new interior gives the vehicle more than ample storage as well as multiple power and USB connections that are suitable for the entire family. It’s easy to knock the dust of this truck and take the family to Church on Sunday. Revised steering, suspension and brakes makes for an improved ride and handling feel. In the past few years automakers worldwide have done a marvelous job of making these automobiles more safe. As we stated earlier the five-star rating is special for a compact automobile. The threedoor hatch we tested had ample cargo space enough to put all our Video Productions equipment as we made the trip to Dallas to visit with Bishop Joe Simon as he brings his commu-

Getting an early start Jerry Woodley Jr. and I made real good time and thanks to the excellent fuel consumption of this vehicle we used only $11 worth of gas before we filled up just outside Dallas. To breakdown the overall fivestar rating the Scion tC threedoor hatch received you get a five-star for driver and frontal crashes with four-star for front passenger. While both front and rear seat occupants get five-star rating in side crashes and a fourstar for rollovers in single vehicle accidents. NISSAN ROGUE SV FWD STILL UNDER $30,000 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Fort Worth, Texas-As we wind down our coverage of the 2013 model year we took a flash look at the Nissan Rogue SV FWD SUV. Once again we are talking about a vehicle that handles well and has ample room for whatever a small family needs, yet it still came comfortably equipped for under $30,000. Taking the Rogue to Fort Worth Texas we were able to take advantage of the 23 miles per gallon in the city a surely the 28 miles per gallon came in handy on our
trip. The 2.5 Liter DOHC 4cylinder engine cranks out 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The new Xtronic CVT the trademark Continuously variable transmission with sport mode. With 17-inch aluminumalloy wheels transform the power to the ground. Yes this front wheel driven small SUV has the handling of a more expensive sport/luxury sedan. Rogue scored a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA with five-stars for front and rear seat passengers in side crashes being its strongest rating. Los Angeles is the final assembly point for
the new Nissan Rogue and Nissan has a place in Franklin, Tennessee. As the years go by more and more automakers are making America their home. For safety Nissan did their homework as the new Rogue is equipped with such features as Energy-absorbing steering column, four-wheel anti-lock braking system and vehicle dynamic control with traction control. When you throw in electronic brake force distribution and brake assist as well as tire pressure monitoring system you are talking about first class luxury sport features. Keep in mind we
are talking about a vehicle that costs less than $30,000. Inside the comfort and convenience features are excellent as well with six-way power driver seat with power lumbar support, with a four-way manual front passenger seat. The SV style cloth seating surfaces with folddown front passenger seat adds to the versatility of the Rogue. The rear seats are 60/40 split with fold-down feature for added cargo space. If you want there are optional leather seating surfaces as well as leather wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats all part of a
package that’s included in our under $30,000 test vehicle. Lets move forward with these options on our test model a Bose fiveinch color screen with touch screen monitor seven-speakers plus subwoofer and Around View monitor. A power sliding glass moon roof adds to the romantic side of the vehicle. While 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels adds to the sport appeal of the vehicle. NISSAN SENTRA SL INCREASES IN VALUE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the bring the 2013 model year to a close and make way for the 2014 full time we couldn’t help but tell you about the new Nissan Sentra SL. Man we are talking about an upgrade in overall size and yet it maintained a good price tag of just over $21,000. Our test model came equipped with Pure Drive technology as well as some good overall looks. Keep in mind this model comes in a much bigger shell and some enhanced styling gives it a much more expensive look. Having known someone who had a 1997 model and kept it nearly eight years and it was still in good shape when he sold it. We are talking about good value back then but the new models have much more and still has a good price. Take for example the new Sentra SL comes with a 1.8-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with Xtronic CVT (Continuously variable transmission) and Eco and Sport drive modes. Front and rear stabilizer bars and power-assisted vented front disc
brakes and rear drum brakes makes for good handling and great stops. This baby rolls on 17 inch alloy wheels and has a pretty good list of safety features to go along with all its other features. A six-way adjustable driver seat greets you with Premium cloth seats and maple wood tone-trim, plus power windows with driver one-touch feature and up/down feature. The extra space in the truck caught me eye since we were supposed to be talking about mid-size sedan here. An six-speaker AM/FM/CD/USB audio system provides a quality sound. With a optional 5.8 color touch-screen display with Nissan Voice Recognition. The new Sentra SL was final assembled in Aguas (ABV) Mexico and gets 30 miles per gallon in the city and 39 on the highway. As the American Dollar continue to shrink one has to make the most of everyone you get your hands on. So if you are in the market take a look at this affordable new styled mid-size model before you buy!

JEEP COMPASS LIMITED FWD GROWS IN QUALITY By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As we roll into the 2014 model year we took a stroll behind the wheel of the new Jeep Compass Limited FWD. Listed as a small SUV with two wheel drive the new Compass outdone its class with a roomy more like mid-size SUV cabin. When you take into consideration the new Compass is priced at just over $27,000 nicely equipped. Under the hood is a proven 2.4 Liter Inline 4 Cylinder DOHC 16-valve Dual VVT engine. This baby is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and cranks out 21 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. Power passes through to the ground on P215/55R18 inch BSW All-Season performance tires circulating around a 18-inch X 7.0-inch aluminum wheels. Funny how the right kind of wheel and tire tandem can make for such a much smoother ride. We were really impressed with the new Jeep Compass and found it to be on the money with increased value for roughly the same amount of cash. All total 72 percent of the vehicle’s part are from the U.S. and Canada with the engine built right here in the U.S. and the transmission built in the Republic of Korea. The final assembly point is Belvidere, Illinois. Taking several of the styling cues from their big brother Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Compass is growing in quality and value as the years go by. Once we were inside the new Compass we could visually see some of the changes. For example a more user friendly interior layout with such features as full-length floor console and interior removable/rechargeable lamps.

Once again we must commend Jeep on taking the time and using a much more attention getting color scheme.

THE SHELL GAME The first part of adult life is to serve humanity. This is true no matter if you are to be a great business person, great parent, great visionary or other wise. What is also true is that the vast majority of people disguise their motives under the umbrella of service in an attempt to gain. To gain is the ultimate divide in what is naturally a harmonious bond between human beings in the quest toward progress. In today’s society to be rich and famous beyond your needs is the goal, unfortunately if that is your only goal you will inevitably cause people to suffer in the process. As it is true that their is not enough sickness in the world to make one person well, there is also not enough money in the world to make one person truly good.
The shell game! Perhaps if you are familiar with this game you know that it is a trick, a slight of hand, and a con. The object of this game is to make you think the object you are looking for is under one shell when it is actually under another. How does this fit into the A-Note leadership series? Well, now that we are in phase two, you will began to see that once you start making your goals known, people will begin to see action and you will get a level of support. This initial support will be the people who can’t do any better for themselves but through you they can see a dream or a vision realized. To be clear these are the same people that allow APPLE, WAL-MART, Home Depot, and others to be global leaders so don’t take this group lightly. I,
myself, also fall in this group of people and again do not take us lightly as we are not easily fooled. This portion of the A-Note Leadership series is the formative piece, molding and shaping must be done, and it can be painful. If done correctly. On the other hand, you will be set up beyond your needs because you helped others fulfill their needs. How do I, through the A-Note Leadership Series, plan to mold and shape those whom have plans and aspirations to help others fulfill their needs? Starting in November I will start taking applications on the aspeaker1.com web-site to choose at least one small business or non-profit to award a $10,000 prize for their commitment to excellence. This will not be easy, and I will not fall for the shell game. My goal is to help take someone’s passion to the next level and I will do exactly that because that is my mission and my vision. Back to the shell game...if I can close on just one note it would be this. We all have priorities and they are important, sometimes they feel as though they are the most important things in life as we see it. CAMPTOWN CEMETERY-BRENHAM, TX
Out and About with John Engel THE HISTORY It sits at the end of Mangrum Street in Brenham, a block away from the Mount Rose Church that owns it, two miles or so from the Blue Bell Creamery. Many members of the church did not know what it was. Most, including the neighbors and the principal of the school next door, thought it was a long abandoned 6 ½ acre plot. What it is, actually, is a very neglected and overgrown cemetery which served the black community when many were still enslaved. Kids from the elementary school would lose a ball in the field and return to tell the teachers stories of the graves in the field next door. The teachers never took the tales seriously. The Camptown Cemetery was the cemetery of the church for almost 200 years. It is the final resting place of many original citizens of The Republic of Texas. Although the records are very incomplete at this time, the earliest graves date around 1830. An estimated 600 people are

buried at Camptown. There are several pecan trees that may be old enough to have been there during the Union Army occupation. These trees will also be dated as part of the restoration. During the era when Texas was an independent republic slavery was illegal. That said, however, many plantation and ranch owners used enslaved labor to harvest the crops and heard the cattle. The area was settled in the 1820’s by the Harrington family. The Harrington’s were among the families that received grant land under the “Old 300” land grant project of 1823.When the Harrington’s arrived in the area they may have brought some slaves with them to help run the ranch. History is very unclear on slaves in Texas as it was outlawed but this may have been the beginning of slavery in Texas.. After the Civil War ended, the area around the cemetery was used as an encampment for Union Soldiers, hence the name Camptown. Most of the soldiers that occupied the area were the Buffalo Soldiers. This is a name given to The Negro Cavalry by the Native Americans they fought. The soldiers were there to protect the emancipated slaves. When the soldiers left, the land was given to the Freedmen of Brenham. In fact, there is evidence of a distillery and brewery built by the Union Army near the cemetery which is the subject of another archaeological project in the area.

The plot of land had been neglected and overgrown over the years. Deacon Eddie Harrison of the Mount Rose Church is directing the volunteers along with Bob Wishoff, a professional archaeologist, are in the process of clearing the land.
After the investigation and identification is completed, the land will be restored and historic markers will be placed to tell the story. Pathways will be added and the remaining trees will be trimmed and preserved. This project is not funded and is relying on the generosity of volunteers and private funds.
This is the first phase in the restoration of this historic land. After the land is cleared, Texas A & M University will be using some very high tech equipment to locate as many graves as possible. It is thought that there is a mass grave of Yellow Fever (also called The Texas Plague) in the cemetery. It is known that two Union Officers were struck down by the fever and buried at another location. When slaves died, the family was not permitted to attend a funeral. The reason was that the owners did not want their property to gather and plot against their owners. Usually a couple of men were sent to dig a grave and bury the body without ceremony. If the deceased was lucky, a pine box was used to inter the remains. A wooden cross or upside down bottle was often used to mark the burial. Many of the gravesites are unmarked and many of the markers are worn or damaged. There is evidence of family plots that contain several graves. Some of these that are more recent are bordered by cement foundations and fences, many of which are badly damaged. At the back side of the cemetery runs a small creek. Over the years it is believed that the creek may have eroded and taken land that was once part of the cemetery. There is a possibility that some graves were
My involvement came through a group of motorcyclists I am associated with, Rolling Thunder. Rolling Thunder is a group of military supporters who believe that our heritage military must be preserved. Many of the residents of the cemetery served in the United Stated Armed Forces in several wars. Some of the markers even declare the dated of service for the deceased. Rolling Thunder was contacted by the Brenham Heritage Museum and when asked if they could help, they jumped at the opportunity. We were joined in this effort by several other groups, including students from Brenham High School, The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. About 40 of us arrived mid-morning on Saturday. We grabbed chain saws, machetes, weed trimmers and other tools. During the day we were able to increase the area cleared from about one acre to over three acres. A few more clean up days will be required to finish this phase of the project.
The objective is to clear the grounds enough by the end of the year so the process of identifying graves and plot the history of the cemetery could begin. The next phase will involve grave identification and marking. Records will be created to identify and remember as many of the deceased as possible. Then the land will be leveled and the stones reset where possible. According to Deacon Harrison, because of the poverty in the area, many people were buried without markers and many without coffins. If two family members died together it was not unusual for them to be buried together without casket or gravestone. If a marker was set it was often either very soft sandstone or a wooden cross. Oddly enough, some of the older stones are in remarkable shape and some of the newer ones are extremely faded and worn. Apparently, families that had more resources were able to afford marble stones that endured the neglect well. Many of the markers were knocked over and broken, most likely by vandals. Evidence of very old bottles (alcoholic and otherwise) have suggested that the land had been used by youths to make out or sit and drink. In fact the Brenham Heritage Museum has started a display of bottles uncovered in the cemetery and dated. Bottles from every decade starting in 1920 are currently in the Camptown display.

CAMPTOWN CEMETERY-BRENHAM, TX WHAT CA BE DO E The restoration project is being handled by the Brenham Heritage Museum under the direction of Director Doug Price. The next work date will be on Saturday, November 16. Several groups from Houston and other cities will be heading to Brenham to further clear the land. Currently about 50% of the area is cleared enough to be examined. who spent years working with the Chittilin’ Circuit and working with the likes of the late Marvin Sease. In the mid-90s Pat also met Soul and Blues Legend Ernie Johnson out of Dallas, Texas. They have been friends for years so it was fit and proper for Johnson to headline some of Pat’s friends to help her celebrate. Johnson talked about coming to Houston to help Pat celebrate. “King you know Pat has been so good for our profession and I consider it an honor to be part of her birthday weekend”. Ernie was also one of the performers at Pat’s wedding. “It’s the least I can do considering how much she has help us over the years.
Karen Wolfe made the trip to Houston to be with Pat on this special occasion. Wolfe, who is the former sister-in-law to the great Denise La Salle and spent more than 12 years singing background with the Lady of the Blues. “Yes it was rough when I first went out on my own by Denise told me to get on out there and I’m glad I did and we are working hard to keep this brand of music alive“. Making the trip from Memphis was Terry Wright who played with the late Marvin Sease among others was excited as well. “You King, Pat has been there for us so I feel it’s the right thing to do is to come to Houston and be with her”.
Still employed with the Harris County Sheriff Department, Pat has been able to work full-time and still stay busy helping the Southern Soul circuit keep going as well. Last year we ran into Pat at the Jus’ Blues Music Award Dinner in Memphis. Charles Mitchell was happy to have her there.
On the way they stopped in Louisiana and picked up the Artist known as Lysa-the 200 per cent Woman and she too was excited to make the trip to Houston. “We are working hard to keep our brand of music alive and well and this trip is just another way to keep it going”.

LINEMAN OF THE WEEK JOSHUA KIRKENDOLL-JACK YATES By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Jack Yates Lions rushed for 339 yards and scored 50 points to win the 9th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic in a blowout of Booker T. Washington. A massive offensive line led by Joshua Kirkendoll pushed the Eagles front all over Delmar stadium on Friday night. With help from his friends Titus Bryant
and Devin Allen the Lions controlled the line or scrimmage right from the state. The sophomore Kirkendoll told us after the game he and his teammates wanted to come out hard and run the ball and simply dominate the game. “Yes sir that was the plan to get after them right from the start and Titus and I wanted to get going early”. The Lions got going early and ended up with 477 yards of offense for the night.

COACH OF THE WEEK JEFFERY CEASAR-YATES By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View While recovering from an auto accident this summer Yates first year head coach Jeffery Ceasar is still getting the job done. Thanks to outstanding offensive coordinators Marshall Lawson and defensive coordinator David Phillips the Lions are off to a 6-2 start and moved to 4-1 in district with a resounding 50-0 win over the Booker T. Washington Eagles in the 9th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic. Dressed in his Classic Tee-shirt and cap Ceasar was driven on the field by Houston ISD Athletic Director Marmion Dambrino to receive the winner Cup along with Offensive coordinator Marshall Lawson. Having spent time with the Lions program under Clarence McKinney a while back Ceasar feels good about the direction the program is headed. “I would say we are jelling going into the playoffs after bouncing back beating Furr 20-13”. Having a good week of work, the Lions were ready. “We reminded them the records don’t matter and the BookerBryant Memorial Classic is big for our team and we told BTW would be ready. Having played under the late Eddie Robinson at

JACK YATES LIONS ROAR PAST BTW IN 9TH ANNUAL FIESTA BBMC 50-0 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Jack Yates Lions roared past the Booker T. Washington Eagles in the 9th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic 50-0. Striking quickly and often the Lions rolled up 477 total yards as QB Brandon Harris led the charge and accounted for five touchdowns in the win. Yates opened the scoring when Harris a 5 feet 11 inch junior hit Ma’Cajah Freeman from 13 yards out and the Lions were on the board. He would find Freeman again and twice he would connect with Kenyon Tennessee on scoring passes. After that Hayes broke on from 82 yards away to put the game on ice and also put his name in the record books as the top performer in the nine-year Classic.
Running back Anthony Martin led the Lions with 152 yards rushing and one touchdown in 17 carries. Still recovering from injuries received in an auto accident head coach Jeffery Ceasar did make the game and offensive
coordinator Marshall Lawson and Defensive coordinator David Phillips took care of things in his absence. The 50 point win is the largest in the Classic history topping the 4125 win in 2009 and the Lions 40-13 win in 2007.

BRAVES SCALP TIGERS IN HOMECOMING SHOWDOWN AT BBVA STADIUM By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The TSU Tigers held their annual Homecoming game at the new BBVA Compass Stadium with only a handful of people present. Alcorn jumped to a 6-0 lead as Haiden McCraney booted field goals of 40 and 27 yards. But TSU came back with a Daveonn Porter 2 yard run to take a 7-6 lead. Eric Medina, a La Porte native connected from 30 yards out to give the Tigers a106 lead. It was then former Studewood Cobra and BTW Eagle John Gibbs Jr. get his rhythm going and found Anthony Williams III from 32 yards out to give the Braves a 13-10 lead. TSU kept on fighting and Medina connected from 44 yards out as the half game to an end with the score tied at 13. The hard running of QB Homer Causey who finished with 110 yards on 15 carries help keep the Tigers in the game all the way. We were happy to guest on KTSU 90.0 FM with Larry “ChattBox Hale and Devin Wade. It gave us an opportunity to talk about the 9th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic. Also with me on the day was former Houston Oiler running back Ronnie Coleman and it was fitting that Coleman talk with Devin Wade about the loss of the legendary Bum
Phillips. “Bum was a special person and much more than a football coach, he got our team together and he made us want to play harder for him and this City”. Coleman and is wife Julia have a Ministry and he praised the fact Bum Phillips was also a Christian. “Yes I got a call from former Oiler lineman David Carter and former tight end Mike Barber and we knew it was Bum’s last days but he took it like the man he was”. Coleman closed the interview by saying he recalls Bum talking about how the Oilers would kick the door in after going to the AFC title game two years in a row against Pittsburgh in 78 and 79. “Well Bum just crossed over into Heaven and this time he didn’t have to kick the door to get in”.
The two teams traded turnovers in the second half and Gibbs again got a good drive going and found sophomore receiver LaDarrien Davis from 39 yards out to put the game away at 2013. We spoke with talented QB who is the conference second leading passer. “Yes sir we came out with a lot of ups and downs and to be honest with you more downs than ups, but our defense was able to hold them until we got on track and got a win”. Gibbs went on to take the blame for a couple of fumbles but he got help from senior setback Arnold Walker who had 23 carries for 136 yards in the contest. “Coach told us we are stopping ourselves and if we stop that we can score at will”.
When it comes to coming home Gibbs was very excited. “Yes sir you see my family over there and plus I know guys on TSU team and we knew they would play us hard because they didn’t want us to spoil their homecoming”. As we continued talking with Gibbs we asked about the game winning 39 yard TD toss to Davis. “Actually I was reading to will and when Will shot out I read to Mike and then to LaDarrien popped open and I hit him and he scored”. Looking back into his pass Gibbs praised
the Studewood Cobras coaches and BTW coaches along with former Houston Oiler Ronnie Coleman who worked with Gibbs this summer. “It all helped me and especially what Mr. Coleman taught me because I was able to go back to it and it all helped me get better”. After a slow start Gibbs finished the day 15 of 40 for 230 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed 8 times for 36 more yards. As he continues to work with coach Jay Hopson and QB coach Fred “Air” McNair the sky is the limit on how well this kid is going to play before he’s done!

WORTHING COLTS GALLOPING TOWARD THE PLAYOFFS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Worthing Colts spotted Jack Yates a 13-0 lead and then scored 30 points to win the game 30-19 and take over sole first place in district 23-3A. The Colts rushed for 160 yards and passed for another 186 on the Lions proud defense in the win. It marks the second time the Colts have beaten the Lions in the past decade. If the Colts can hang on they can claim for first
district title since 1986 when Robert “Bull” Wilson led them to the title over Madison. The defense held Yates to only 11 first downs and only 57 yards passing. Coach Brandon Ellis was excited after the game and talked with us. “I’m so proud of these guys because we’ve known since they were freshmen this day was coming and they have worked so hard on 7 on 7 and getting ready for this day”. Ellis who played at Colorado and a brief stint with the Houston Texans went on to say he feels if they can stay injury free they are not only expecting

WHAT IS TRUTH? THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving: There are many in the religious world today having FUN; having HOLIDAY feasts, parties, drinks, just having a merry good time (REVELLI G). We are sure some if not most would ask, what’s wrong with that? There is nothing wrong with it according to our FLESH, actually it is FU ! But according to Christ and his apostles, to our SPIRIT it is a vexation, to our SOUL it is damnation John12:24-26, because the FLESH cannot please GOD. The CARNAL MIND is hatred against GOD and is not SUBJECT to the LAW of GOD. Thereby, not having the Spirit of Christ (antichrist), please read; Rom.8:1-10; Gal.5:16-25; Phil.3:16-20; Titus3:8-11. For even when the, “Holiday” season starts, what is truly thought of the most? Is it Christ or is it the time off, the fleshly family gatherings, the glutinous foods and drinks, the carnal games, the vain carnal trees and decorations, and or the materialistic “gifts”? According to scripture our thoughts cannot be of Christ, when the things that we are observing and or doing, CANNOT be found in HIS instructions to HIS BODY, the Church (Matt.17:1-8; Matt.28:18-20; John17:16-23; 2Cor.1:12-14; Eph.3:1-7; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John4:56). But rather are the things that goes against Christ, thereby DENYING HIM and his FATHER, (ANTICHRIST) (Isa.29:11-14; Matt.15:7-9; Mark. 7:6-9; Luke 6:43-49; 1John2:15-26; 2John1:7-13). Let your conversation be ONLY about the ONE thing that is NEEDFUL; Christ, the scriptures, and soul salvation while at these gatherings, and see how popular you will be (Philp.1:27; 1Tim.4:11 -16; 1Pet.1:13-19; 2Pet.3:8-12). Take the carnal, fleshly wants of man out of the equation; there would be no observance of these CARNAL days that Christ has not authorized, to those that are his. If these instructions were followed, the so-called Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter FEASTS would not exist with those professing Christ. Christians are to give to the
needy always, not on some day put in place by man, the creature, please read: (Matt.5:3848; Luke 6:27-36; Acts20:29-35; Rom.12:9-21; Gal.2:9-10; 6:910; Eph.4:28; Phil.2:1-8. Then, we would be following the instructions of God, the Creator, through Christ, and his apostles. But many choose NOT to follow these and many other instructions left by Christ. Why is this; is it because of the lack of knowledge or just being rebellious, because of what we like, (our BELLIES)? “Matt 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” “Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Now here is a day that is among many others, that is Highly Esteemed among MEN, and has been set up by man for his BELLY, the things that he LIKES. Note the origin of this day; “The Thanksgiving holiday has its origin in the Puritan Thanksgivings of colonial New England. Both the Pilgrims of Plymouth and the Boston Puritans were strict Calvinist Protestants.” “Cal·vin·ism) n. The religious doctrines of John Calvin, emphasizing the omnipotence of God and the salvation of the elect by God’s grace alone.” Please check the complete history of this tradition, and you will find it NOT being at all CHRIST LIKE. As we have read, this tradition came MUCH too late to be of Christ or his apostles. Here again is the problem; it follows not the instruction given by Christ (Luke14:12-14; Rom.12:16). There is no need for man to set up such, not for a Christian because; the instructions for giving thanks has already been set by THE WORD, and it is Perfect and Complete. The CREATOR needs NO help from the CREATURE (Rom.1:25). The creature MUST OBEY and follow the instructions already given, IF we are to be followers
of CHRIST through his apostles, (Christians). Christians must abound in thanksgiving 24/7, and give thanks when ever we eat, according to the apostles’ word, not on some day given by man. Christianity is not SEASONAL, but a 24/7 LIFESTYLE, and according to scripture ALL THI GS MUST be done with thanksgiving. The statement, “salvation of the elect by God’s grace alone,” is OT according to scripture; therefore it is ERROR and is dangerous! According to scripture, we are saved by grace, but NOT grace ALONE. We are saved by many things, grace being one, baptism and the obedience of the WORD being another, which is another lesson, but for now please read (James1:21-27; 1Pet.3:20-22). As we start this study please get your Bible, and pay close attention to all scriptures and all definitions. The study: Thanksgiving by Christ through his apostles to His body, the church; Thanksgiving-2169 eucharistia (yoo-khar-is-tee’-ah);- from 2170; gratitude; actively, grateful language (to God, as an act of worship): KJV— thankfulness, (giving of) thanks (-giving).

According to scripture, Christians MUST not live by the flesh anymore. Christians MUST put on Christ in baptism and KEEP him on, thereby putting on the new man, and that NEW man MUST be a SPIRITUAL one (Rom.8:5-9; Gal.3:27). For when we choose to take Christ OFF for our Belly’s sake (fleshly wants); we then become that old fleshly man, and we SIN. We all have kinsmen in the flesh, but Christians MUST remember who their family truly is. The SPIRITUAL family reunion is set on each Lord’s Day (Acts20:1-7), and it must be attended (Heb.10:25). Jesus said….. “Who is my mother or my brethren, (Matt.12:47-50 & Mark3:32-35)?” If we are to be of Christ’s family, we MUST follow HIM. For all have not obeyed the gospel; Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Contrary to what is being taught in the religious world today, EARTH is a Christians’ WORK place (Philip2:5-16), there is no time for FUN (horseplay), Christians MUST redeem the time (Eph.5:14-17). Christianity is a SERIOUS LIFESTYLE, and there is nothing more serious than it; in that it is about either having eternal life in HEAVEN, or eternal death and torment in HELL (Matt. 12:34-37; Mark9:43-48; Luke16:19-25; Heb.10:24-31). If Christ and those before us SUFFERED not to participate in such things, why do “Christians” today think they have the right not to suffer? True Christians today must SUFFER also, we MUST suffer to be obedient and follow those before us, so that we can cease from sin (Philip.1:29; Heb.5:89; 1 Pet 4:1-4). We believe that weakness maybe one reason. We also believe that such ones might ask these questions: “How can I tell my wife, husband, children, or friends?” “How can I tell my father, mother, or kindred, that these are truths?” The question should be: “How can a Christian, i.e. follower of Christ, not tell the truth to all (the truth being the WORD)”, John17:16-17? Followers of Christ through his apostles MUST tell the TRUTH at all times, for no lie is of the truth, and there is no lie in Christ, James 3:14; 1John 1:510 and 2:21-29. Christians must be strong in the faith, not in a
faith, and have been instructed to quit like men. “1 Cor 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, (1)quit you like men, be strong.” Warning, for being timid, “fearful”; cause damnation. “Rev 21:8 But the (2)fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Definitions: (1)quit you like men-407 andrizomai (an-drid’zom-ahee);middle voice from 435; to act manly, 2) to show oneself a man, be brave: KJV— quit like men. (2)fearful 1169 deilos-timid, fearful We believe that pride may be another reason for the refusal of the truth, in that we don’t like admitting that we have been wrong. Jesus said that pride, among other things is evil, and defileth the man, see Mark 7:20-23; Mark 9:43-48. This is true because first, and most of all Jesus said it. Secondly, when it hinders one from saving his own soul and the souls of others, by not admitting the truth by the word, can anything be more evil? Remember, among other things the WORD is profitable for correction: 2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. We must not be too proud to accept the WORD; after all it is Christ John1:1-18, and it is what will judge us in the last day John12:46-50. We must change our minds and then our ways if we want to be SAVED, “Repent” Mark 9:43-48; Rom. 12:1-2; 2Pet.3:8-18. Dear reader, our hope is that you would question those “Religious Leaders” by the Apostles’ doctrine, that observe, and or impose these unscriptural traditions upon you. Jesus Christ said that the belief of him is in the apostles’ word, so that we ALL will be ONE (John17:1421; Acts1:1-4; 2:42) because he gave them, the apostles the Word, and they Kept IT, (John17:5-10). Remember the engrafted Word is also able to save our souls if we are doers of it and not hearers only (James 1:21-22). He that hath an ear, let them hear and then strive to do, if we are to be of the Church that Christ is building (Acts 2:47). Please remember as always, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to the WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the Preponderance of SCRIPTURES; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of Scripture. PV HOMECOMING A PICTURE PERFECT DAY By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Prairie View, Texas-once again it was a picture perfect day for Homecoming upon the Hill at Blackshear Field and Lord knows it was packed again. Photographer Andre Odums captures the events of the Panthers Homecoming and their big win over Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils to remind in the hunt for a SWAC division title. Earlier in the month the Panthers had traveled to Dallas and beat Grambling State handily for the third straight year. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
BRANDON HAYES-YATES Senior QB Brandon Hayes led the Jack Yates Lions to their 6th win of the season against 2 defeats. It was there 4th win in 5 district ballgames and their 7th in the 9 years of the Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic. Hayes connected on 7 of 11 passes for 117 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed for a 119 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. A busy night
for the senior who walked away with the MVP of the 9th Annual Fiesta BBMC. You can see the work offensive coordinator Marshall Lawson had put in getting his QB ready for big time action. In talking with Hayes we learned he felt good going into the game and knew the Lions needed to get out to fast start. The jumped to an 8-0 lead as
Hayes found Ma’Cajah Freeman from 13 yards out for a score and then hit Kenyon Tennessee for a two point conversion. Hayes found Tennessee from 29 yards out and the Lions led it 30-0 at the half. But the senior wasn’t done rewriting the record books for the 9 year Classic. He then found Freeman again from 14 yards out and later Kenyon Tennessee grabbed a 20 yards from Hayes to put the game out of reach. But with 4 touchdowns in the air Hayes bolted 82 yards for another score with 9 minutes left to seal the deal. “We just wanted to come out and play hard and try to get a jump on them”. He went on to say if the Lions continue to work hard they could very well go all the way to state. “I’m

THE WAY I SEE IT - BY BIG JOHN CHANDLER - SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE As I continue my recovery regarding eye surgery, I Ifound a recent column regarding support for girl athletics. I hope this column will inspire everyone! As I entered the M. O. Campbell Center in the Aldine Independant School District to attend the Region II 5A and 4A Girls Basketball tournament, I noticed the same sight I’ve observed for the last twelvewhere were the fams? I kid you not dear readers; where were the fans? They were not outside the arena, nor was there a big criown on the freeways going north to get to the site. Yes the was the annual rodeo parade for Saturday 2/’22/13, but that was
completed by noon. Their was plenty of time for fans to load everyone up in the car, suv or truck to make the trip to Campbell to support these young athletes. But sadly few did. I have thought about this issue for years bit never sat down at my computer to type a column about it. This time I had to because it is painful and an outright shame of all of us. These young ladies work hard, very hard to play sports. They are not only competing against each other but sadly a mindset that should be out of our minds years ago. There seems to a dead idea that still hangs on that women should not play sports. Yes I iknow that sounds stupid to print this but
yes there are many of us walking around muttering this idiotic thought. Some of us won’t support young women playing sports even if we are related to them. I watched talented athletic young ladies play their hearts out to have the chance to advance to Austin Texas to play for a state championship. Many have worked for this moment for years. They just the support of family and close friends to enjoy this special moment. I sat there in the arena and watched the joy of League City Clear Springs celebrating their 2013 Region III basketball title, They won it and had a blast doing so. It’s just a outright shame that they did it with so few fans in the arena.
Katy Seven Lakes High School, Clear Springs opponet, wasn’t any better regarding fan attendance. I understand that we all have a ton of things to do in 48 hour weekend. Families are loaded with children activites, errands and someties (we know ‘sometimes’ always means ‘most times’) activities that just wears everyone out and then Sunday is upon us and its time for the 40 hour grind beginning Mpnday all over agin. I get that. But can’t we squeeze in a couple of hours for these young ladies; our daughters, neices, cousins and friends? Don’t we understand that those little girls sitting in the stands with those big eyes are watching
those young ladies on the court and thinking to themselves that soon very soon when they reach thier teenage years they too can play basketball. Can we just think of them sometime? No I guess not, because the attendnaxe will continue to be small and we will always question as to why. We have people waisting gas and attempting to crash phony alleged stars and ‘their’ parties just to gossip about who was there at the event, what they were wearing and more importantly who they were seen with. Te more times change, the more things never seem to change. That’s just the way I see it!
A RISING STAR - NEAL BLACKLOCK - BTW By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The BTW Eagles has fallen on hard times these days after being beaten 50-0 by Jack Yates in the 9th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic. But the spirits are still high for the young Eagles squad as well as senior Neal Blacklock. The senior was all over the field for the Eagles and led them in rushing with 55 yards as the Yates Lions defense teed off after getting an early lead. “We kept trying to play hard because that’s what we are about”. When asked about the importance of the Fiesta BBMC game Neal said he had heard a lot about it and was honored to play in the game. “We had some players go down with injuries but we just kept fighting trying to get some points”. Neal added the Lions played very hard and
very well in the win and the Eagles will continue to work hard and try to get better!. Former Houston Oilers running
back Ronnie Coleman liked the way Neal carried the ball and said with better blocking this kid has a shot and getting big yards.
