Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)

2013 LEXUS ES 350 Bastrop, Louisiana-When it comes to luxury automobiles in the mid-size range, the Lexus ES 350 takes the lead. Fact is the all-new 2013 model we tested the other week lived up its billing and then some. Starting with the rough and tough Houston traffic and then up Highway 59 North up and down the hill country and then over on I20 where you must drive 80 miles per hour to stay with flow of traffic, the Lexus held its own. We were very impressed with the climate control being so balanced that you never had to

raise or lower the fan speed. That’s fine when you consider the vehicle gets an average of 24 miles per gallon that being 21 MPG in the city and 31 on the highway. Only $21, 00 in fuel cost from Houston to Tenaha, keep in mind that’s half way to Bastrop, Louisiana which is 367 miles from Houston, Texas. The 3.5 liter 288 horsepower engine with four cam 24 valve V6 engine with all-aluminum engine construction & Dual VVT-I . All this mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift and is front wheel driv-

en. Another thing about the new Lexus is the Dual exhaust with chrome finished tips making you think about the 60s and 70s. A four-wheel independent Macpherson strut-type suspension with gas pressurized shock absorbers with front and rear stabilizer bars. All this power rolls to the pavement on 18-inch eight-spoke liquid graphite finish wheels circulating around Allseason tires. Keep in mind this is a vehicle with a $47,000 price tag and a 4-year 50,000 mile with a basic warrant with five year, 70,000 miles power train warranty and five year unlimited miles corrosion perforation warranty.

action. The blind spot monitor came in handy once a twice while on I 20 as the traffic sometimes creeps upon you. Inside the new Lexus you are in driver automobile heaven with clearly one of the state-of-the-art layouts in the history of instrument clusters. Everything is within finger tip and is clear and easy to read. Safety is at an all-time high in the new Lexus starting out with dual front air bags with dual knee airbags front and rear seat mounted side impact bags and front and rear side curtains. Stability Control with TRAC and 4-wheel anti-lock brakes system with EBD and BA as well. There is even an energy managing crumple zone, side door beams and theft deterrent system with engine immobilizer to round out the safety features. In closing please allow me to add the Mark Levinson Premium Audio package with an 835 watt audio system with 15-speakers and DVD/CD player, hard disc drive navigation system with backup camera. Yes Lord when you are behind the wheel of this vehicle you somehow get the feeling you are in Automobile heaven and are riding in the clouds!

Our test vehicle came in Matador Red Mica that really turned some heads up and down the freeway on our Labor Day weekend trip. At one point we ran into just a little rain and had a chance to see the new rain sensing wipers swing into

SCION FR-S PUTS YOU IN THE FAST LANE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Dallas, Texas-Thinking back some 15 years ago, we drove a Toyota Supra all the way to Dallas, when we made the trip to Big D in the all new Scion FRS, it came to mind again. Yes this little roadster surely reminded me of the Supra and it also signals the fact Toyota wants to get back into the fast lane. The peppy little roadster handled a

lot better than you would expect for a vehicle with an estimated price tag of around $25,000. It’s powered by a four cylinder flat DOHC 16-valve power plant that produces 200 horsepower at 7000 RPM and delivers 151 lbsft of torque at 6600 RPM, the FR-S gets out with best in class. The six-speed automatic transmission with manual shifter simply adds to the fun when driving this vehicle. This power hits the ground running hard on P215/45

17 inch tires coming from Michelin HP stock so we had a little fun with it as well. With a reported 0-60 in 6.2 seconds the FR-S gets the standing quarter in around 15.5-7 seconds making it really fast. Let me add the new FR-S gets 19 miles to the gallon in the city and about 27 on the highway making for a less expensive trip. The sport car feel did however make you want to punch it a lot and forced you to be on the lookout for the

police because it was easy to go past the speed limit.

Getting in and out wasn’t a thrill for these old bones but once behind the wheel you knew you were going to get a reward. The sound system was real good and noise levels were lower than we expected it to be with a small roadster. The overall interior

sort of reminded you of a race car so that helped to amp you up once you closed the door. Funny how the trip to Big D isn’t so bad when you are having fun behind the wheel. In closing please allow me to add the small back seat area caught my attention but the well built trunk space more than made up for the lack of back seat room.

MICHAEL BURTON DIRECTOR OF DESIGN EXTENDED RANGE ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EREV) INTERIORS Michael Burton grew up in the inner city of Lansing about 90 miles from his studio in GM’s North American headquarters. The Michigan capitol city was once the place where Oldsmobiles rolled off the assembly line and several of Michael’s family members went to work. Automobiles were a family affair and some of his earliest preschool memories include learning the alphabet by spelling the names of GM cars as they drove down his street. And when he wasn’t spelling them, he was drawing them. Michael Burton always knew what he wanted to do.

delight he did. One of GM’s personnel representatives wrote a personal letter encouraging Michael to keep drawing, along with some advice about how to break into the car design business. It was advice Michael took to heart.

As an early teen, Michael wrote a letter to General Motors and included some of his sketches. He never thought he’d hear back. But to his surprise and

When he joined GM in 1999, Michael served as a lead exterior designer for the Cadillac SRX and STS. His next assignment included exterior and interior

Not many years later, Michael attended the Center for Creative Studies on a four-year scholarship and then went on for his Masters degree. Upon graduation he accepted a position at Ford and then moved to Chrysler, becoming that company’s first African American designer.

TABLE FOR ONE Lisa Smith I hope that you have begun to put in practice some tips from last month’s article and are ready to continue on discovering the more adventurous side of you and even conquering some fears. Here is Tip #2 Try something new! Try a new activity such as zip lining, (I’m afraid of heights) but I tried it anyway. Fear of water sports? Then join your local YMCA for swimming lessons to be more comfortable with water outings.

Put together a cool trip with friends or co-ed trips can always be lots of fun. Do more than lounge on the beach, talk to the locals when on vacation and see where the coolest “non-tourist” hangouts are in the area. (Safety First! Always stay with your group or let someone know where you are going.) Activities can be as close as a nearby winery so plan a day trip and do a wine tasting with lunch. Check out a sporting event with a group of your girlfriends, think football there are tons of guys there! Men try

work on more Cadillac vehicles as a design manager for GM’s prestige and performance platforms. Michael was named to his current assignment in January of 2011 to direct the interior work for GM’s extended range electric vehicle programs and meet this segment’s future growth and demand. Other recent assignments include Director of Exterior Design for FWD and luxury crossovers and the Director of Interior Design for the GMC, Saturn and Buick FWD programs, including the breakthrough interior that debuted on the Buick Enclave Show Car. “That car really demonstrated how far GM interiors had come. The many unique and innovative features on this car really set a new bar something new and attend a sporting event that’s unfamiliar to you. Find like minded or open minded people and take the opportunity to get group rates or group specials on exciting activities. Party buses can be a fun way to get around as a group; paint ball parties where you can create teams to battle it out; even bowling can be a great activity for two or more! It’s always fun to have a prize for the winner; it tends to get people motivated to play. Watching a novice is always fun so, experts need not apply! You must find out what things you really enjoy and what things you have always wanted to try.

in terms of quality and craftsmanship and a new design esthetic for the brand.” Michael’s passion for art, design and attention to detail stretches beyond the studio, to other facets of his life. An accomplished songwriter, vocalist, musician, and minister of his local church, Michael wrote, composed, and performed songs for his wedding, and designed a special altar for the exchange of vows. His personal style is as tailored and fashion-forward as his work, but more importantly is the hometown success story he now represents for other youths – and for Michael Burton this is exactly what he wants to do. Michael Burton So this month learn the rules of an unfamiliar sport and grab some tickets to the next event. Next vacation, take off your floppy beach hat, designer sunglasses and get out there and

swim with the dolphins! See you next month, can’t wait to hear what fears you’ve conquered and adventures you have tried.

Out and About with John Engel

A NEW LEGEND A legend is described as a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. I have always thought a legend is also an event that is extraordinary or above and beyond the normal. People can be described as legends also. Sam Houston, Martin Luther King and George Washington can be called legends.

In Texas there is a new legend. Thomas Germann founded The Original Texas Legend Distillery and is in the process of building his own legend. He has always had a passion for high quality vodkas and fine hand-crafted spirits. Tom took his knowledge of distilling crude oil into various base components which are then blended to make fuels and applied it to the process of distilling spirits and turned it into great hand-crafted vodka. The processes for creating both are very similar. His start up product is the Troubadour Vodka. This premium beverage is made from a blend of grains with Red Winter Wheat and Texas Rice. Red Winter Wheat has unique flavors and is sourced from Idaho and the East Coast and is Rice, which provides a clean, crisp finish is sourced locally right here in Texas. The water used to create this vodka is also a blend. Germann says the key blend comes from a source in the Ozark Mountains which has been protected since the 1800’s and has been served in the White House and aboard Air Force One for decades. All the ingredients are brought together and distilled into a very smooth and drinkable product. The wife of Texas Music Legend, Shake Russell, was talking to Tom while the product was under development and suggested that Troubadour would be a good name. Obviously, since Russell is known as the Texas Troubadour, Tom said it would be an honor to share his namesake for this product. The bottle design is also unique.

Very tall and lean with broad shoulders and a long neck, it represents the heroes that built this great state. The label uses designs that would have been used a century ago, when things were done by hand, just like his vodka. Instead of a conventional plastic screw cap, Troubadour uses a wood topped cork which they sourced right here in Texas. The distillery itself is not very large or impressive but it represents the rebirth of an abandoned location. Formerly an auto repair shop and most recently a convenience store, the Orange Texas location is giving new life to an otherwise unused building. The transition into a distillery was done by the partners with their own hands. The copper and stainless steel still used to create this product was handmade and came from Kentucky (as did Jim Bowie and several others that fought for the independence of Texas). It is a plate reflux still which is similar to those used in petrochemical distilling for refining products into a more pure state. This type of still creates a higher quality product and is the still of choice for certain craft beverages. While developing his product, Germann went to a small distillery in Denver to make test batches. It is illegal to distill alcohol in Texas without permits and you cannot get the permits

without having a building and all the necessary equipment already purchased. Data from The American Distilling Institute lists that in 2011, there were just 12 permitted craft distillers in our great state, with most residing in and around Austin and less than 250 across America. It is very difficult to get a product on the market here. Texas law prevents the distillery from making any direct sales to anyone but a distributor. The final shelf price isn’t set by the manufacturer either, first the product gets marked up by the distributor and then again by the final retailer. Texas just recently legalized the sale of wines directly from wineries to consumers. In the past the winery had to secure an agreement with a distributor. The distributors are very wary about taking on new products that may or may not sell because once they buy them from the manufacturer, they own them. Texas has a three tiered system for alcohol: The manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer. Several craft distillery owners are forming an organization this year to hopefully influence laws in Austin which will benefit these small craft businesses and help how they can operate, interact with customers and distribute. Changes to current laws will allow many more high quality but limited production products to be available in our favorite’s stores. The Original Texas Legend Distillery is not trying to make a huge profit for themselves alone. Germann sought a worthwhile charity from the beginning as they wanted to give back to the

community. Tom believes that the Fallen Heroes Survivors Foundation is worthy of their endorsement and will be giving 5% of all net profits to the group. In addition, The Legend Distillery is supporting various events of that Foundation. For example, the FHSF is sponsoring the poker run at the Texas Lone Star Rally in Galveston the first weekend of November. Some lovely ladies will be wearing “uniforms” provided by the Distillery to collect money for the Foundation and promote the poker run. Germann has stated that it is a shame that more companies don’t offer more to support worthy causes. It is easy to write a check now and then to a good cause, but it takes true commitment and caring to give a percentage of your profit in good times AND bad to charity. Germann said that he could think of no better way to honor a soldier who was killed while serving our country than to give back to the family they left behind though Fallen Heroes Survivors Foundation. When asked how Troubadour Vodka should be enjoyed, Tom had this to say.” It is a very smooth mixer (when mixed with Dr. Pepper it has a slight chocolate taste). It can also be used as a sipping beverage, both neat or on the rocks.” Tom says its base grain flavor profile stacks nicely as a mixed beverage or when served chilled the faint hearti-

ness of the wheat is detected just before the clean refreshing finish of the rice cleanses the palate. UPDATE: After this piece was written, The Original Texas Legend Distillery has made a deal with United Wine & Spirits for the distribution of Troubadour Vodka. It is going to be available at Spec’s within weeks and other retailers can place orders for it now though United Wine & Spirits. Look for it at Specs or request it at your favorite retailer and support our troops and their families while rewarding yourself with a true hand-crafted Texas Vodka.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THE DAY OF THE LORD Dear reader, again we are so thankful for Mr. Prayther and staff and of course Fiesta, for allowing us the opportunity to share with you some scriptural TRUTHS. Again, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe by using definitions and the preponderance of scriptures; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of scripture, allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Again, thank you so much for your interest in the WORD of TRUTH; GRACE and SALVATION; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP to HEAVEN and away from HELL! There have been MANY predictions over the years concerning “the end of the world”, which according to scripture, will be “the Day of the Lord”. According to SCRIPTURE they have always been and will always be predictions, without SUBSTANCE. What has been MOST disturbing to us is, some making these predictions, have been those “professing” Christianity. This is just one of the many reasons why we believe, the word “Christian” is the MOST misused and abused word on EARTH. The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, while on earth, didn’t KNOW; nor did the angels. Since the Father in heaven didn’t share this information with them, especially with His Son in whom He was well pleased (CREATOR); we MUST then conclude that GOD has not shared it with any other CREATURE, especially man. Please read: “Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” “Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.”

Why does MAN seem to always focus on the WRONG things? These things have OT been given us to know, nor have A Y control of; (see Col.2:1-23): intruding into things which he hath not seen nor heard, VAINLY puffed up by his FLESHLY MIND! One day man the

CREATURE will learn to stay out of THE CREATOR’S business, but then it will probably be TOO LATE. According to scripture, His coming is as a thief in the night, as in: this second, next second, this moment, next moment, today, tonight, tomorrow, this week, next week, this month, next month, this year, next year etc. According to scripture, whenever it is, it will for SURE be when we ALL LEAST expect it. The TIME or the DAY of THE LORD’S RETURN should not be our focus; we should be focusing on what happens on that day. For when we close our eyes for the last time, our next consciousness is THE JUDGMENT, (Heb.9:24-28). Man should be using this valuable TIME to prepare for this day that is to TRULY come.

According to scripture, the best way to get started is; by Hearing and understanding the Word of God through Christ and his apostles (Rom.10:14-17; James1:22; Eph.5:15-17); by Believing the Word to the point of OBEDIENCE, for Devils believe and tremble, but a devil will not obey (Mark16:16; John3:13-18 and 17:20-21; Philp.1:29-30; Heb.5:5-10; James 2:17-26; by Repenting, (having a change of mind) of the lives that we have been living out side of Christ (Luke13:3; Acts 2:38; by Confessing Christ, thereby DENYING what we like in this world, consenting to Him (Matt.10:32-39; Rom.10:10), and then by being Baptized INTO Christ, thereby PUTTING ON CHRIST (Gal.3:27; Matt.28:18-20; Acts2:41-42; Col.2:11-12; 1Pet.3:20-21, suffering to follow Him through His apostles word. Let’s read what Christ said: “Luke 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.” The Day of the Lord should be a glorious day, but for most it will be a sad day of RECKONING. For because of MAN’s BELLY, (the things he like in this WORLD Phil.3:16-21; 1John 3:15-17) he chooses NOT the STRAIT and NARROW PATH; “Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many

there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” “John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”

Since without a doubt there WILL be such a DAY (Judgment), you would think one would want to know what the LORD will use in that day. But O, man doesn’t want his WRITTEN WORD, MAN wants to HEAR things; SEE things; FEEL things and have his OWN THOUGHTS on things; “Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Man wants to have SALVATION his OWN WAY, thereby believing on JESUS his own way. Let’s READ what God, Jesus and His apostles have to say: “Matt 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” “Matt 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” (see also Matt.28:16-20) “Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” “John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”“John 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I

speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.” “John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”(see also Acts 1:1-4; 2Cor.2:14-17) “Eph 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;” “2 Pet 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:” “I Jn 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.” “Jude 1:17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.” ow let’s start the study, THE DAY OF THE LORD, as always please get your BIBLES: Prov 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. 21 There are many (1)devices in a man’s heart; (2)nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. (KJV) Matt 24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THE DAY OF THE LORD 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (see also Mark 13:22-27)

cometh shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. (KJV)

Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: (KJV) Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. (KJV)

1Thes 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (KJV)

2 Pet 3:10 ... as a thief in the night; (KJV) Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. (KJV) Luke 12:39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.(KJV) Luke 12:43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he

If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. (KJV) Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. (KJV) 2 Pet 3:10 ... in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, (KJV) Isa 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished. (KJV) Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. (KJV) Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 2 Pet 3:10 ... the elements shall (KJV) 2 Pet 3: 11 Seeing then that all these things (1)shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in (2)all holy (3)conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? (KJV) Definitions: (1)shall be dissolved-3089 luo (loo’-o); a primary verb; to “loosen” (literally or figuratively): KJV— break (up), destroy, dissolve, (un-) loose, melt, put off. (KJV) Ps 97:5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. (KJV) Amos 9:13 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. (KJV) 2 Pet 3:10 ... the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (KJV) 2 Pet 3: 1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the

water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Let us focus on the things that will SAVE us from all the things that shall be dissolved. Let us get READY, by knowing what manner of CREATURE ought we to be. Let us focus on THIS; “2 Pet 3: 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns,

or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. (KJV) Luke 21: 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. (KJV) 1 Cor 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (KJV) 1 Cor 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. (see verses 35-49) 1 Cor 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THE DAY OF THE LORD 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.(KJV)

the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV)

2 Cor 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (KJV)

2 Cor 5:17 ... a new creature: (KJV)

2 Cor 5:17 ... be in Christ, (KJV) Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after

Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (see also John17:17-23; 1Cor.1:1931)

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV) Gal 6:13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. 17 From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. 18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. (see also John 3:1-7; Eph 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (KJV) 2 Cor 5:17 ... old things are passed away; (KJV)

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. (see also Rom.7:1-6; 1Cor.13:11; 2Cor.5:16-21; Eph.2:12-22) Rom 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. (KJV) Phil 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Phil 3:1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. 2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. 3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. 4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteous-

ness which is in the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. (KJV) Col 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. (see also Col.2:1-23) II Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: (see also 1Tim.2:1-15; 3:1-16; Heb.8:113; 9:1-28; 11:1-27) James 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of

truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (KJV) James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (KJV) James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THE DAY OF THE LORD 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (KJV)

1 Pet 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. (KJV) 1 Pet 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their

part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous (1)scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. (KJV)

Definition: (1)And if the righteous scarcely be saved-3433 molis (mol’-is); probably by var. for 3425; with difficulty: KJV— hardly, scarce (-ly), + with much work, not easy. 3425 mogis (mog’-is); adverb from a primary mogos (toil); with difficulty: KJV— hardly. I Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. (KJV) I Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the

world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (KJV)

I Jn 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.(KJV) Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (KJV) Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (KJV) Dear reader, neither hiding in BUNKERS nor anything else, will keep us from the terror of THE LORD in HIS DAY, “The End Of The World” for “...the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2 Pet 3:10). Neither hiding on “MARS” nor “ the MOON” or anywhere else, will keep us from the terror of THE LORD in HIS DAY, “The End Of The Heavens“ for “…the heavens shall pass away with a great noise…”(2 Pet 3:10) and “…the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved…” (2 Pet 3:12). Remember, even the DEAD shall RISE; for we shall ALL STAND before the judgment seat of Christ ( Rom 14:10); 2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath

done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. 2 Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Again, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe by using definitions and the preponderance of scriptures; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of scripture, allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Therefore while you have time, use it to learn and do Gods Commandments for at the end of life is pay time and your pay will be according as your work has been. You will find in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the following: “For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that everyone may recive the things done in his body according to that he hath done, whether it be good or evil.” You will find in John 15:14. “Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.” Solomon said in Proverbs 1:5 “A wise man will hear and will increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain unto wise counsel.” How shall we escape if we neglect to great Salvation: Hebrew 2:1-3 Salvation is to be worked out. COACH OF THE WEEK-TOM NOLEN-LAMAR By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Lamar Redskins are off to a 4-0 start and headed into their first district game against Westbury with a full head of steam. For longtime coach Tom Nolen this looks like another year of his team having what it takes to make the Houston I.S.D. best football program even better. Nolen has the respect of his peers and does a fine job of having his teams ready to play week

in and week out. After a slow start the ‘Skins scored 27 unanswered points to beat Elsik 3410 at Delmar. Nolen told reports sometimes kids get to thinking it’s easy so seeing the Rams score first sort of opened their eyes. “Getting slapped in the face isn’t a bad thing to get our team ready for district play”. Having the mind set to allow his position coaches to coach their position well, Nolen is noted for just kind of overseeing every-

thing and it has worked well for him for more than a quarter of a century. With a pure dual threat in Darrell Colbert at quarterback and several good runners and a host of receivers who can catch the ‘Skins seems primed to make a good run.

Finishing with 363 yards of total offense against a pretty good Rams defense, Lamar has once again shown they are worthy of being ranked.

When Lamar takes to the field against Westbury for their first district game they will be well represented by the Studewood Cobras Little League organization. Starting tackle Zelt “Peanut” Minor along with Levy “Smoky” Whiteing who is one of the ‘Skins best backs and Jacoya Neloms is one of the captains of the ‘Skins cheerleaders. All got their start with the Cobras Organization and are certainly making the Cobras proud these days.

WWW.KINGSIZEVIEW.COM some big plays for us” Smalls said and “he just keeps us in the game under we could get our offense rolling again”.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK EDWARD PERKINS-LOVING-TSU After trailing 27-17 at the half, the Texas Southern University Tigers went to their speedster from San Antonio, Texas and he delivered big time. Sure I’m talking about Edward PerkinsLoving the fleet footed 5 feet 9 inch 175 pounder. Getting outside and inside on the Prairie View Panthers defense Loving led the Tigers back into the game when he scored two of

their third period touchdowns in the win. He finished the night with 18 carries for 98 yards and two scores. In talking with Quarterback Rico Smalls, who had 222 yards in the air and 104 on the ground, we learned he truly counted on Loving to make the big runs and it certainly appears to be the junior receiver can also run the ball from scrimmage as well. “Ed just made

Coach Darrell Asberry credited Loving and Rudy Johnson as the two players he is counting on to get the Tigers going each time out. “These guys are having growing pains and the game against Jackson State was a valuable experience for them both said Asberry. Loving is truly a big part of the Tigers approach and he continues through their first four games as the lone bright spot for the Tigers. “We just kept trying to get going and when we were down we wanted to stop the string P.V. had on us and I just wanted to help make our team a

winner”. Loving also gave all praises to God for he and his teammates that broke the string with a 44-41 win over the Panthers of P.V. who had won the last five games in the annual Labor Day Classic. “We wanted the streak to end and we worked hard and practiced to get ready for this game and now that we’ve gotten it we can move forward to try and get back to SWAC championship form”. The junior big play guy added his defensive unit kept them in the game until their offense got rolling in the second half. The kicker Robert Hersh a senior from Pearland, Texas booted a 47 yard field goal with no time left for the Tigers to win before more than 22,500 fans at Reliant Stadium.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SMOKY WHITEING?

By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Just in case you are wondering why we are doing this column, the reason is to follow some of the stars from little league all the way to the pro ranks. During the fall of 2005 Levy ‘Smoky’Whiteing was running the football for the Studewood Cobras all the way to a Super Bowl title with his moves and shakes. Fact is this guy was destined for greatness then and we sort of lost contact with him. Well low and behold Whiteing scored on a one yard run in Lamar’s win over Elsik. The win is the Redskins 4th of the year and they remained unbeaten headed into district play against

Westbury. Levy or ‘Smoky’ as we use to call him with the Studewood Cobras is on the same team with former Cobra Zelt “Peanut” Minor who is on the defensive front for the Lamar. We are looking forward to seeing the Redskins play so we will have an update on what Smoky is doing these days.

JACOYA NELOMS-LAMAR

STUDENT OF THE WEEK This has been a very special week for me and we are truly seeing the fruits from our 30 years of laboring covering high school sports and youth athletics. For example we are following up on one of our Fiesta Students of the Week in Jacoya Neloms who is now a senior at Lamar High School. The charming and talented young lady is holding a 3.8-6 G.P.A. and already plans to attend Texas A & M University or Oklahoma University to study Veterinarian Medicine. We first met Neloms back in 2005 when she was a member of the Studewood Cobras Super Bowl championship cheerleading squad. At that time she was one of the captains under the leadership of Nikki Penrice and Jacoya talked about what it was like working under Penrice. “It was wonderful because she taught me the basics and I learned a lot about the game so we would know when and when not to cheer and that’s what helped me along to get to what I’m doing today. She is the captain of the Lady Redskins of Lamar High

School cheerleaders and doing a fine job. Having done Praise Dancing while at her church (Strong Life Ministries Church) and also spends time visiting at Community of Faith Church as well. Considering herself blessed to have cheered with the Studewood Cobras and meeting some of the people she now attends school with. One such person is all world defensive tackle Zelt “Peanut” Minor and the two remain friends today. “We didn’t know a lot of people at Lamar so we were kind of like big brother and little sister we kind of looked out for each other”. When asked about President Barack Obama and the job he is doing as the first African American President she stated “Oh I think he is doing a very fine job because people don’t like to talk about it because he has faced a great deal of racism in the White House”. Neloms went on to say she feels under the circumstances the President is doing a phenomenal job.

Considering her mother Sha’Nassa King as her most driving force in life Jacoya feels confident she has made the most of all opportunities her young life has afforded her. “Oh she pushes me to be the best and every time she thinks I’m slipping she gives me that wakeup call and tells me to get it going again”. The exciting young lady went on to say she considers herself to be a very friendly person who is caring to the degree to give you the shirt off her back if you are in need”. “I’m truly

blessed to be at Lamar because our school spirit is a 10 and we have to sometimes remind our student body to sit down so the people behind them can see the game as well”.

The Nation Honor Society Student like Biology best and also takes chemistry and physics at Lamar High School. These are

good classes for Veterinarian Medicine major and she is leaning toward Texas A & M because of their outstanding school for that field. In closing Jacoya says she feel truly blessed and if she had it do over again she wouldn’t change a thing.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL REPORT-LAMAR RUNS PAST ELSIK 34-10 FOR FOURTH WIN By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Redskins of Lamar High School rolled to their 4th win of the season against no defeats with a 34-10 victory over Alief Elsik. It marked the first perfect preseason since 2009 when the ‘Skins went 8-2 that year. Using a well balanced attack Lamar went up 14-3 at the half and scored 10 points in each of the finals two periods to seal the win. Justin Hollie hauled in a 16 yard scoring pass from Darrell Colbert for the first score. Then former Studewood Cobras Levy “Smoky” Whiteing ran in from one yard out for the half time lead. Lamar struck again as Ronnie Wesley took it in from 3 yards away. The defense lead by Zelt “Peanut” Minor and linebacker Jack Anderson held Elsik in check most of the game and to only 75

yards rushing. Kicker Alan Melgar booted two field goals of 27 yards each and Nicholas Turner grabbed a 41 yard pass from Colbert for another score, while Caleb Bedford ran 10 yards for the Skins other score. Now looking forward to district play Lamar is posed to make a solid run that will make the Houston I.S.D. proud. On the other hand many HISD programs are taking it on the chin including those that in the district with North Forest who are now at 4-0 also. Having beaten Yates 56-6 and Reagan 61-6 and then blasting Milby 707, North Forest is making a case for more schools to combine their programs. Booker T. Washington dropped to 1-2 when they fell to Cleveland 31-14 this past weekend beating Lee for their only

win two weeks ago. Yates opened the season with a big win over Wheatley but has since lost big to North Forest and Madison for their 1-2 mark. Kashmere rolled over Wheatley in the early edition of the Lockwood Classic 28-0. Coach Garry Dunham K-Rams played closed to Huffman and should give Yates and B.T.W. a good run for the District 23-3A title. Yes we did mean to print Class 3-A as the HISD now has one 3A one 4A and one 5A district as their enrollment continues to drop. Making the most of a bad situation, Dunham just keeps rolling right along. “King we’ve only got 500 students but I walking those hall everyday trying to find football players and we have about 85 to 90 on our teams and we play a good hard preseason schedule, so we will be ready when district time

comes”. The fact is year in and year out Dunham has taken what he has and made the most of it. Two-way player Albert Davis is one of the leaders on the squad and quarterback John McKelvey has played well for the Rams among others. Around the area Spring Westfield edged Klein 24-21, and Clear Lake squeezed by Conroe 42-39, while Cy Springs sneaked past Cy Lakes 37-34. But Kingwood rolled over Klein Forest 31-10, Dayton blasted Crosby 45-21, Langham Creek got the upper hand on Cy-Fair 24-21. Summer Creek whipped New Caney 64-0 and Kingwood Park rolled over Porter 63-24, Clear Creek over Baytown Sterling 33-7, while Waller lost to Brenham 24-14. As the blowouts continued Beaumont Westbrook spanked Chavez 49-0 and Port Arthur

Memorial ran over Bellaire 41-7. It was Aldine over Channelview 28-7, Sam Rayburn over Northbrook 30-7 and Fort Bend Christian won over Cypress Christian 49-13. Episcopal whipped Brookshire Royal 48-8 and El Campo edged FB Foster 16-7. Pearland Dawson roughed up Clear Falls 55-24 and St. Thomas got the better of Huffman 52-28, Deer Park beat Dickinson 37-27, Alief Taylor edged Angleton 8-7 and La Porte ran over Brazoswood 5214. Westside doubled up Kempner 48-21 and Sharpstown rolled past Austin 69-0. It was Fort Bend Marshall over Worthing 68-0. In the late games on Saturday it was North Shore moving to 4-0 with a 56-8 victory over Madison. Spring Dekaney whipped Klein Oak 63-14 and Cy Ranch beat Jersey Village 50-35. Nimitz blanked Oak Ridge 37-0 and Reagan beat Wheatley 41-21, while Cy Falls whipped Cy-Creek 27-9.

8TH ANNUAL FIESTA BOOKERBRYANT MEMORIAL CLASSIC COULD BE FOR THE DISTRICT 23-3A TITLE Even though the Kashmere Rams will have a say in it the 8th Annual Fiesta BookerBryant Memorial Classic could be for the district 23-3A title. Jack Yates and Booker T. Washington will me on Friday October 26, 2012 at Barnett Stadium with a 7.00 PM kickoff. The series is led by Yates 5-2 with BTW winning in 2006 the second year of the Classic and again last year in a thriller 1413. As the enrollments drops year after year at these historic schools they have been forced to drop in class. Funny how 30 years ago when we started covering high school sports Jack Yates had 3800 students and BTW was so crowded you had to bump against students to get through the halls between classes. Those days are long gone and some people say the proposed Bond Issue will actually help rebuild those schools but with smaller campuses. Fact is we are looking forward

to another great game between two of the state’s finest high schools. Again we want to thank Fiesta for stepping up to the plate and hitting a home run when they teamed up with King Arthur’s Productions to sponsor the game.

TSU GIVES PRAIRIE VIEW THE BOOT IN LABOR DAY CLASSIC 44-41 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Texas Southern University Tigers trailed the Prairie View A & M Panthers by a score of 20-7 at one time but came fighting back and won the game 44-41. In the end it was a big 47 yard field goal by kicker Robert Hersh a Pearland native who did the Panthers in with no time on the clock. It was clearly one of the best games over the weekend and in the SWAC as a whole. Fact is P.V. had won the last five meeting in the annual classic and the Tigers again with first year coach Darrell Asberry got the job done. The Panthers jumped out to a big 13-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes

old. But TSU got on the board when Dantavio Parker found James Davis from 36 yards out for a score. Again Courtney Brown scored and P. V. went out in front 20-7. It looked as though P.V. was going to run away with it again but the Tigers kept fighting and clawing their way back in the game. Rico Smalls had over 200 yards passing and one touchdown; he also had more than 100 yards on the ground in the win. “It’s about time we win one of these games; five years is a long time, but we knew Coach Darrell Asberry had us ready to play and we just kept fighting until we got on track”. Smalls a native of Dallas Texas sent a shout out on Jerry Lee

Woodley’s College Sports Report to his younger brother who is playing in North Dallas. But unfortunately Smalls went down to injury the next week against North Texas.

mom a couple of years ago and was injured earlier last year and missed the season says he felt the kick was to honor his later mother. “When I came to TSU in 2008 we felt if things go well we would win games and we did

that and we’ve been through some tough times but things are looking up with coach Asberry now in charge”. The game lived up to its billing and with a three point win fans got their money’s worth.

JACKSON STATE WINS BATTLE OF THE TIGERS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Jackson State University Tigers came to Houston and spoiled the Texas Southern Tigers home opener in BBVA Compass stadium before a crowd of more than 14,000 fans. The final count read 45-35 and the fans got their money’s worth and then some. Texas Southern scored first as Rudolph Johnson found Bill Rosenberg from 52 yards out capping a 4 play 76 yard drive. But Jackson State

answered quickly as Rico Richardson grabbed the first of three scoring passes from Clayton Moore from 12 yards away to cap a 5 play 75 yards drive. Johnson, pressed into action when Rico Smalls went out with an injury against North Texas State, scored from 21 yards out. But once again Moore found Richardson from 44 yards out to tie the game at 14. TSU scored again as Johnson hit Fred Plummer from 53yards out and a 21-14 half time lead. Jackson State opened the third

period with two Moore runs for scores as well as a 27 yard field goal and a 10 point lead at 3121. TSU would close to 31-28 when Johnson hit Harry Brown from 13 yards out and surge ahead when Ed Perkin-Loving ran 5 yards for a score. But it was only for a minute because Moore scored on a 5 yard run and then found Richardson from 25 yards out to seal the victory at 45-35 with 1.55 left in the game. One thing we found while visiting BBVA Compass stadium is the building is fan friendly and you get a warm feeling while sitting so close to the action on the field. TSU fans certainly loved their visit and certainly this is a well put together complex.

It was certainly an honor for us to be there among the legend in Texas sports history. Let just take up where we left off with some more Meritorious Award winners. Major General Nathaniel James was a commanding General of the New York Army National Guard. Effecting some 14,500 soldiers and he served as President of the Reserve Officers Promotion boards. Spending most of his time in the 369th Transportation Battalion Division Artillery Command and Division Support Command Commander in the 42nd Infantry Division In 1992 James became the first African American to sever as Commanding General of the New York Army National Guard. For the past 5 years he and his wife have been big supporters of the PVILCA. Charles Adams Hebert was born in College Station, Texas and later moved to La Porte where he learned to play baseball. He went 18-1 for one of the best records of all-times and it earned him a scholarship to Southern University. Hebert went 7-1 as a freshman and 8-0 as a sophomore, and then failed in his bid to make the cut with Houston Astros. He went to work for Lubrizol Corporation and retired after 35 years of service. Another one the Astros let got a way. On the hoops scene Tommy Amerson of Navasota moved to San Antonio and finished from Wheatley high school in 1953. Amerson was an outstanding forward on that Wheatley basketball team and was the team captain his senior season. He went on to attend St. Phillips College and TSU before being drafted in the U.S. Army in1958. He and his wife Ann have been married for 53 years and have four children. Clinton Booker came out of Rosewald high school in Bess May, Texas in 1960. Drafted in 1967 in the U.S. Army and was awarded two Purple Hearts in Viet Nam. He currently lives in Beaumont and loves to fire up

the Barbeque pit. Hired on in 1964 at East Tex Pulp and Paper Company, Booker is still at the Mead West Vaco Company in Evadale, Texas just north of Beaumont. Robert Mitchell a native of Malakoff, Texas and a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1959. Mitchell joined the Air Force and worked as an administrative Personnel Specialist. He went on to attain the rank of E-6 before retiring in April of 1981. Later on Mitchell took a job with the City of Austin Police Department as a clerk and was promoted to Police Equipment Supervisor in 1990. In December of 1998 Mitchell retired and lives in Austin today with his wife of fifty years. Jerry M. Richard is a Timpson, Texas native and graduated from Timpson colored high school in Temple, Texas in 1946. While in high school Richard was good n track and basketball. Getting a full-four year scholarship to Tillotson College where he was a left tackle on the football team. He went on to get his degree in P.E. in 1950 and later in 1962 received his Master’s in Education from Prairie View College. He followed that with

an outstanding career as a coached at several schools before serving as Director of Secondary Education following years as a Principal. Just like most of the PVILCA legend Richard has been married to Vivian Richard for 60 years and they have 3 daughters and four grand children. John D. Richardson a graduate of Lincoln High School in Malakoff, Texas in 1958. Richardson went on to attend Paul Quinn College in Waco receiving his B S degree in P.E. and teaching certification in driver’s education. After obtaining his degree in educational administration supervision Richardson would go on to teach for 40 years. In the early 70s they moved to Dallas, Texas and he continued to teach until retiring in 2003. But his love for athletics keeps him around the stadium as a manager and sharing his wealth of knowledge with those who need it. Pervis Rosemon Sr. grew up in Mount Union in Southeast, Texas and was a member on the 1963 Walnut Hill high schoolWest Kirbyville state championship basketball team. He also ran track and went to state in the

440 yards relay. Later he joined teammate Odis Booker Jr. and played in an All-star game at TSU. Going against the late Bubba Smith and Mel Farr at Beaumont Hebert high school was the highlight of his career. After 31years Pervis retired from Houston Light and Power Company.

School, where she excelled in both girls basketball and track setting a state record. Mason went on to Bishop in Dallas and later Angelina Junior college before joining Jasper Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. For 39 years Mason has practiced Nursing and is a loving wife and proud mother of three sons for her husband John Fleming.

Williams R. Bill Rosemon who played all sports at West Kirbyville high school just like his big brother did. Bill ran the 880 yard and was all-district in football and basketball as well. He went on to become a Paratrooper in the 82nd and 101st airborne division of the United States Army and served in Viet Nam. William went on to make the National Dean list as a senior at TSU after starting out at the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas. He too was employed at Houston Light and Power Company and became the regional director for the AFLCIO. Deborah Mason of Jasper, Texas graduated from J.H. Rowe

THE COLLEGE SPORTS REPORT Jerry Woodley TSU SPORTS To start the season with a win over your conference rival, your archrival. It gets the juices flowing and everybody is filling well about themselves. Well 1 win does not a season make. Beating Prairie View was not the end. Prairie View was the beginning. Coach Asberry mentioned that in the post-game. Three games into the season, a defensive coaching change is made. And yes in all 3 your conference game teams scored 40+. And you’ve got Sam Houston State coming in on a short week. Is the only team capable of playing a semblance of defense is on the pro level. Can’t have too many weeks of this. Shoot outs are only as good when you have skilled depth to incur them. Something, or somebody has to break out of this defensive slump. Mind you TSU has its share of injuries. They’ve got back-ups. Depth chart flip cards say they do. Where TSU is at a disadvantage is at quarterback. Sophmore QB, Rudolph Johnson is stepping into

the SWAC fray. With TSU playing its last nonconference game this Thursday against Sam Houston State University, who comes into this game (1-2, 0-1). Sam Houston also has a conference game battle with their archrival SFA next Saturday. Hopefully SHSU has their mind on that game rather than this one against Texas Southern. TSU has to offensively get started early on Thursday and be able to defensively slow then make stops late. Because it won’t get any easier with SWAC games the rest of way. HBU SPORTS School started and additions got added. Not just student-athletes, but another football program got started in the city of Houston on the NCAA Div 1 level. That’s right; Houston Baptist University Huskies are in the football business. Even though they won’t be playing a conference schedule for two years (Southland Conference). Practice has begun and a small pre conference

schedule is being put together for the year before they began playing in the Southland Conference. They’ve had their first signingclass. Quite a few of home grown talent, 33 of the guys in shorts and T’s are from the Houston area. Where they were expecting about 20-25 start drills with. The word of football team on campus swelled those numbers to around 40+ for their first practice. With at least 1 addition a week, to try their luck. Practice is open to the public. Tuesday-Thursday, 45pm. On practice field, south end of soccer field. This has come about through the vision of an administration that believed it was possible. President Dr. Robert Sloan and Athletic Director Steve Moniaci, first overcoming the move back to NCAA Div 1 level. Then finding a conference closer to this region, which would accept them now. Then allow HBU time to establish a football program. Sharp Gym still displays their NCAA Div 1 banners. It’s interesting now that the seeing is

get you wins. You check and measure your program by who play outside of conference. You are defined by your conference. And Rice having a better record doesn’t bode well those restless alums.

WHAT’S GOI G O WITH UH A D RICE FOOTBALL

Yes Rice is 1-3. But you can see Rice’s issue is there defense needs to find themselves. Yes they are riddled with defensive injuries. But back-ups need to step up. Rice is probably the favorite this week for the Bayou Bucket.

0-3 is 0-3. An open date, the Bayou Bucket game is staring you in the face when return playing. And not only that, it’s a conference game. Is UH a big cat or what? Used to be you wouldn’t have to ask that question. But it’s also been so long when UH started any sport 0-3. We are wandering what’s going on. Big cat would be an answer! And Rice is probably looking at this game a, “what’s ailing you.” Medicinal answer, “UH.” A bird looking to eat the cat instead of the other way around, bird does not fear the cat this time. Yeah, graduation happens, injuries happen, at some point players play and except no excuses. Breaks, finishing plays are factors that will

Rice also opened C-USA play this past weekend at home. Losing to Marshall 54-51, in 2OT’s. Even with this past weekend’s lost. Rice is looking forward to the challenge. For both teams everything is still in play. West Division and a bowl bid. Yes looks and reads funny. But it’s true. The loser this weekend will have a lot to ponder the road. But it’s not impossible. They are both searching for answers. Hopefully during the open week UH found theirs.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK-ZELT “PEANUT” MINOR-LAMAR By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As time rolls on we are now into our 30th season of covering high school sports. Our kids are getting better and better as the years go by. One such player is Zelt Minor a senior defensive lineman from Lamar High School. Why it seem just like only yesterday in 2005 when the Studewood Cobras won the varsity Super Bowl championship. Minor, a two-way lineman on the team had just arrived at Jones Coward Stadium and their opponents had the scale waiting for him to check his weight. Keep in mind Zelt was a little big for his age and the other teams in the league wanted to make sure he was within the weight limits. Low and behold he was just about 2 pounds overweight but he asked to work out and run off the extra pound so he could play in the Super Bowl. “My father had worked me into shape and told me what to eat to control my diet and really I had made the weight limit at the weigh-in but the others teams wanted me to face the scales each time before a game”. They were all waiting and asking the question where’s that number 60 kid? “I couldn’t believe the entire league had people at the weigh in and that’s when I realized I was going to have a chance to be a special player”. Special indeed is a good word to describe the four-time Super Bowl winner who went on to dominate play at Hamilton Middle School wining the zone championship in the 8th grade.

other Cobras as the only players to have their jersey retired and never to be used again. Yes Zelt “Peanut” Minor number 60 will never be used again by the Cobras. “When I was invited to the banquet it was an honor because the Cobras had taught me a great deal about growing up and taking responsibility, not just football, but for life as well”. But Peanut says he was totally shocked when they called his name and gave him a 60 jersey in a glass and told him no one will ever wear that jersey again. “To have your number retired in Little League, man that’s unheard of, but I was so honored by it I will always love Coach Walter Penrice and all the others who worked with me when I was with the Cobras”. He added it was hard to break away from the Cobras and it’s been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do growing up because they are so much of the reason I’m doing well today”. Minor went onto to say Lamar has a couple of Cobras on the team with him and couple of guys who played against them in little league as well. “We are a big family and we care about one another just like it was with the Cobras and our freshman class went unbeaten and we feel we can do the same thing in high school this year”. Hard work is the key and Minor went on to say he truly feels having already signed a letter of intent with the University of Houston he doesn’t have to worry about

playing hard for scouts to see him. “In talking with my parents I always wanted to sign before my senior year so I don’t have to worry about being seen; all I have to do is help my team win state”. At 6 feet 3 and onehalf inches tall and at 265 pounds Minor is a good catch for the Cougars program and we know he’ll do well when his time comes. “After visiting the campus and going to a couple of home games it was easy for me to accept their offer, because many schools have talked about offering me a scholarship but the UH backed up their talk with a real offer and I accepted it”. These days he is the starting defensive tackle at Lamar High School and they are off to a big 4-0 start. We are looking forward to seeing him in district action and what is certain to be a banner playoff year for the Redskins. Zelt now wears jersey number 92 and plays defense, but the results are still the same. He simply tosses blockers out of his way until he fines the guy with ball then it’s his turn to hit the turf. “We are a good team that plays well together and that’s the key to our 4-0 start”. In closing Zelt added he is looking at business management or sports management as a college major at UH. We are looking forward for a great senior year from Minor and he certainly has made the Cobras proud!

A RISING STAR CLAYTON MOORE JACKSON STATE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Jackson State University Tigers went against the Tigers of Texas Southern University in the BBVA Compass Stadium before a crowd of over 14,000 fans and won a thrilling 45-35 victory. Mainly due the play of junior college graduate Clayton Moore who was the trigger man on the Tigers spread offense. Moore came from Louisville, Mississippi played in Akron Ohio Junior College and thrust into action. Moore completed 18 of 36 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 101 yards and scored three more times on the ground. Moore’s efforts are clearly one of the best performances in any college game this weekend and perhaps one of the best performances of all times for first on the field players in the NCAA history. In talking with Moore we learned he was told by Coach Rick Comegy on Saturday morning he would be the starter. “I didn’t know until this morning but I was ready when my team needed me because all through high school and junior

college I had been a starter”. Making light of his big day Moore credited wide receiver Rico Richardson with his success. “When you have a guy like Rico who can go and get the ball the way he did (8 catches for 235 yards and three touchdowns) you feel good back there in the shot gun”. As we talked more with Moore he couldn’t help but think out a loud as to why TSU never came out of their single coverage. “After we burned them a few times you would have thought they would go with zone coverage but they (TSU) never did and Rico and I just kept hooking up on the fade route and that helped us win the game”. Spreading the love around Moore added he thought the Tigers defense led by Joseph LeBeau did a fine job on TSU all night long and their running game with Tommy Gooden helped keep their attack balanced all during the night. Listed at 6 feet 2 inches and 215 pounds Moore has all the tools to play on the next level and look to hear from this guy again!

It was then he first met some of the coaches from Lamar who wanted him to play for them. “It was great to be wanted and coaches were telling me they wanted me to go to their school”. He went over to the campus at Lamar and truly felt at home and had a lot of respect for the way Tom Nolen and his staff ran the program. On the offensive line he would simply pull the running backs up behind him and knock the defenders out of way until they got out in the open and they could run on their own. Then on defense he simply knocked over the guy in front of him and tossed the ball carriers to the ground most of which were for losses. Clearly one of the most outstanding performances of all times so much so he joined two

The Way I See It By BIG John Chandler I readily admit that no football game this season excited me more that TSU’s opener at against long time rival Jackson State at Compass BVAA Stadium across from downtown Houston. I admit this game had been circled on my wall calendar at home for nearly a year. No it wasn’t really about the game but about how the new stadium would excite the alumni of TSU. As the KING SIZE VIEW staff (King Arthur, Jerry Woodley and yours truly pulled into our media parking spot it

did feel different. Walking into the stadium felt different just as taking our seats where the media sits. TSU had talked about a stadium issues for years. I remember my late father, a great football player for TSU in the late ‘50s, tell me that “I’ll be dead and gone and the I45 South to Galveston will be completed and TSU still will be talking about a football stadium”. We would get a laugh out of his statement but underneath all of that was a sorrow he felt in his heart for his school. He loved TSU but

OPEN EDITORIAL: A PROBLEM CHILDREN HAVE BECAUSE ADULTS GOT INVOLVED My beloved late mother would always tell me that problems always result when too many cooks are in the kitchen. I never thought that sports belonged on the front page of the newspaper, but some how some way it always does. This issue in Kountze Texas just outside of Beaumont has become an international news story and it just doesn’t make sense to many of us. The Kountze High School Cheerleaders with no interference from school administrators, parents, community leaders or students decided to place Christian words of encouragement on the painted signs for the 2012 football season. They were meant to witness love to their friends, family and those who had no affiliation with any religion. This was something they decided to do. The painted signs caught on like a wildfire. The students of Kountze thought it w a cool idea. Parents stood up at games and cheered their children for taking a public stand for their beliefs. But as you probably figured, not everyone was thrilled with the idea. The American Civil Liberties Union warned of legal issues for Kountze ISD due to separation of church and state. They claimed this was issue of Muslim, Hindu and other faiths including atheists. What a bunch

of baloney! First the Supreme Court had ruled in another Texas case involving school prayer that if its student initiated and led, students have the legal right to pray at athletic events. Didn’t I mention earlier that the cheerleaders, not the school administrators, parents, community leaders or the actual student body of Kountze, decided to do this. Secondly other faiths have the same right to express their beliefs as long as they themselves (students) do it. I’m so sick and tired of adults trying to relive their lives thru their children. The students have a right to express their belief in a peaceful legal way; and guess what; they did exactly that. A state judge lifted the ban for several weeks until this case goes to court. Make no mistake about it; this case is headed to the Supreme Court. I loved what one cheerleader stated about those that oppose the bible verses-just don’t look at it if you disagree but the signs are still going to be there each week so get used to it. My mother was right again. Too many adults make a mess when the get involved into something they have no business being into!

WILL NEW STADIUM CHANGE ATTITUDE TOWARDS TEXAS SOUTHERN ATHLETICS?

wouldn’t show that love to the outside world. He kept inside and only those very close to him including my beloved late mother knew of his pain and agony for his school. Fast forward over fifty plus years and there we were Saturday September 15, 2012 in a stadium TSU could call its own. This made me think of all the bad things that the university had experienced in my lifetime. The disappointing seasons, bad coaching, lack of support much less love for the athletic department and the alleged support TSU received from student, elected officials and community at large. Don’t get me wrong; TSU has been at fault for

many of the problems that exist today. They seem to always take two steps forward and ten backward. The biggest question as I watched the fans enjoy a great game and of course the performance of TSU’s famed Ocean Of Soul Marching Band, I sat in my seat with the same thought I had since the day began: will this stadium change the attitude towards Texas Southern University Athletics. The crowd was okay (15,000 plus) but should have been sold out. The crowd enjoyed themselves. I did also but my feelings were still not fully on the win side for TSU. I mean I felt good to be there, to see this historic black

THIS YOU NEED TO KNOW By Paris Eley THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT AN ELECTION

I have heard both President Barack Obama, and the candidate who aspires to unseat him, Willard Mitt Romney, invoke the consequential nature of the upcoming election as the most important election of our time. It was during the first presidential election to engage my attention that I was introduced to the phrase. The contest was a highly charged nail biter between Republican veteran Richard Millhouse Nixon and the rising young Massachusetts Democrat Senator, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. President Kennedy won that election by a mere hundred thousand or so votes out of the 68 million cast to become the nation’s first president who was a member of the Catholic religion. It was my first practical introduction to American politics. As a 14 year old, I was mesmerized by the intensity of the battles between the campaigns, their use of the press to further their political objectives and, most impressively, the role of television in debates. It fixed in my mind the realization that at six, two, and four year intervals voters in our country choose senatorial, congressional, vice presidential and presidential candidates, respectively; in addition to any number of special and off year elections

in our municipalities for referenda, propositions, and local officials. There were critical issues involved, to be sure; simply put, Russia and America were in a fevered race to dominate much of the world it seemed and divide it into communist and non communist nations. Cuba, Germany, South America, and Asian nations were all territorial parts of the gamesmanship playing out against a dangerous nuclear backdrop. Foreign policy was a tinder box, but domestic policy was even more contentious. Civil rights, voting rights and education for blacks here at home promised to make it one of the largest turnouts for an American election about issues that went back to the founding of this republic. That 1960 campaign was billed by those on both sides as the most important election of that generation. Of course, I was not one of the 68 million eligible to cast a vote, but still, the framing of the election in such stark terms stayed with me. 50 years later, I have heard many elections cast in similar or exact terms with varying degrees of accuracy (or inaccuracy) by candidates, commentators, and voters. Some issues have receded, while others have worsened, but I there is one issue that supersedes all oth-

college finally have a football stadium of their own, but wondering will the community support them unconditionally like Grambling, Southern, Florida A&M Norfolk State and other black colleges around the nation? I will say this; the stadium design and comfort level for the athletes and fans is simply great. The Houston Dynamo should be congratulated for job well done. As for TSU, it’s all in their hands. They must sell themselves to a public that has seen and heard their song and dance routine before. This may be TSU’s last chance. That’s just the way I see it!

ers during any election year for those of voting age. Are you registered to vote? If the answer to that question is no then all of the handwringing and speechifying are to little avail. Over at the Daily Kos blog, the writer Meteor Blades notes… “Some people who should know better treat the right to vote and voting itself as no big deal. They say all politicians are the same, that big money demolishes the impact of an individual’s vote and that after election day, from the mayor’s office to the Oval Office, nothing will change no matter how they cast their ballot. This is balderdash. But, worse than that, it’s an insult to the men and women who lost their blood and sometimes their lives in the struggle to ensure citizens’ fundamental right to choose their own leaders…Every reform in U.S. history has started outside the legislatures and executive branches of the state and federal governments. But all that succeeded were also confirmed by elected representatives of the people… It’s a good time to take stock of your personal situation. Are you registered?” The most important issue in an election year is that if you are eligible, you are registered. Get registered, get moving. peley1946@yahoo.com

TIME FLIES...OR DOES IT? Hey Lovers, is it my imagination or is this year moving by pretty fast. Have you ever said that about your relationship, your marriage? Is this a good or bad thing? A lot of times when things are rocking and reeling, and going good, nines time out of ten it means that everything is OK or there are no major problems, time just flies by when you are having fun, I know you have heard that. On the other hand if things are not quite right, boring, difficult, it might make

time drag on. It could be a class, a movie, or your relationship...Oops did I say that. I've heard people say ‘I've been married for fifteen years, but last five seem like a lifetime. .’ This means the last five years were not the best, and instead of on an incline it was going in the wrong direction which seems to make it drag on and on. Can we fix this? When it comes to our relationships, our marriage, they are fixable if either we haven't waited too long, which causes us

NFL Hall of Fame.” He becomes eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. After 15 years in the NFL, ‘Strahan, the man’ retired in 2008. He retired with more impressive statistics:

Quite an academician, Strahan played TSU football under then head coach Walter Highsmith from 1989 to 1992 and graduated in 1993. Highsmith recalled that Strahan was introduced to him through an acquaintance with his uncle, Art Strahan of the old Continental Football League. Michael signed on with Texas Southern at about 212 lbs. and had played tight end in high school. He was switched to defensive back and the rest is history. “Strahan, the man!,” exclaimed a jubilant Coach Highsmith. Reflecting on Strahan, he had nothing but accolades for the TSU graduate. “He was a super young man. He was very, very, very quiet. He was a good leader. He worked hard and never had a discipline problem.” The proud coach continued, “He was the type of kid, you knew was going places. He had the perfect personality and charisma.” The fortuitous coach concluded, “He’s 40 years old now and peaking. He’s done a lot . . . college ball, the NFL, a national sports show co-host, a sitcom and now a national talk show co-host. The only thing left is his impending induction into the

to look at greener pastures knowing if we just cut the grass on our side of the fence everything might be ok, or if we can admit to one another that there is a problem, and we are not the problem. Sometimes we point fingers when we should be looking in the mirror when we do the pointing. Yes I said it! One lady asked me “Stevie T is love enough?” That's a good question which I'll try and answer next month. All I'm going to say is that it is definitely the foundation, without a foundation the house will eventually sink. Catch my drift. A relationship is like buying a new car you know there is going be some depreciation when you drive it off the lot, but once you get it paid for that depreciation turns to appreciation and you love it even more. On a recent episode of In The Lover Corner which airs on Wednesday nights a caller said

she’s one of the main reasons her marriage failed because her husband didn't work and she had to be the breadwinner and she was so out done, but when she came home she said everything was order the kids were taken care of and dinner was on the table. What does that sound like to you, yes a stay at home mom. Well men have dealt with this forever. It's that old double standard that what applies for women should apply for men. Who writes these rule books? I know I don't. Would you understand if your spouse had problems finding a good job, not because he was lazy, and we have some of those out there, but because of the job market? Would that be enough to kill your marriage or would that foundation you built, the love, be enough to help you through the rough times....Excuse me did you ever hear for better or

The 6 ft 5 in. Strahan is the son of Gene and Louise Strahan. His dad was a major in the U.S. Army and at a young age, Strahan moved to an army base in Mannheim, Germany. Wikipedia states that although Strahan did not begin to play

high school football until his senior year in high school, he did play organized football at school in Mannheim, Germany, playing linebacker for the Mannheim Redskins in 1985. The summer before Strahan's senior year of high school, his father sent him to live with his Uncle Art in Houston so he could attend Westbury High School. Strahan played one season of football, which was enough for him to get a scholarship offer from Texas Southern University. He then flew back for the spring term to Germany, where he graduated from Mannheim Christian Academy. Michael has four children from two prior marriages and is reportedly engaged to Nicole Murphy, the former wife of comedian Eddie Murphy.

ew talk show co-host on “LIVE” Michael Strahan is pictured in an episode of the shortlived sitcom “Brothers” on FOX worse, for richer or poorer. Where's the love my friends. Make sure you join me for In The Love Corner on Wednesday nights with my co-host EZ and special guest. The top love songs of this month are 1. Neither One of Us Gladys Knight 2. Practice What You Preach Barry White 3. One in a Million Larry Graham 4. Reasons Earth Wind and Fire 5 Free Denise Williams. Don't forget a very important election is coming up and every vote counts and that's an understatement. If you know someone that hasn't registered and needs a ride to make it happen; well, make it happen... So until next time keep a little love in your heart, the look of love in your eyes, and don't let a day go by without telling someone you love them even if that someone is You.
