CELEBRATING 52 YEARS OF SERVING THE CHURCH AND COMMUNITY
Uniquely Designed: A Letter to Uncle Dave By Kimberley Blair Pleasant Dear Uncle Dave,
In my life I have met some extraordinary men. One in particular is you Uncle Dave. When I think of what a man is supposed to be and what they are supposed to do Uncle Dave you are who I envision. The 33 years I have known you, you have been a constant reminder of what hard work, loyalty, love, laughter, giggles, and fun is. To see you care for your children was unlike other men. Now I’m not saying men don’t do this everyday, but to see you Uncle Dave in this capacity was so beautiful. How you would come home from a long day work go to Morgan, “B”, and Kevin’s rooms and lay across their beds to ask them about their day. The way you would hurry up and clean up the kitchen so Morgan, “B”, and Kevin wouldn’t have to. You see you knew if it didn’t get done Terri would be highly ticked off that her house was not in order.
The way you washed all the clothes in the house and folded them up, to the ironing of everyone’s clothes for three weeks to make sure they were prepared for the week when
you had to go to Chicago for training one year. You would talk to me, Candy, and Jamie about the importance of school. And, when
it was time to get out and be an adult you and Terri helped get jobs so we could be independent. Uncle you had the patience of Job, because Aunt Terri is so strong minded that she could possibly dominate you if you weren’t careful. But the personality you had you were able to be cool about it and say, “Ok Terri or Alright Terri”, and still be so loving in the process. I know God made you especially for her. Not only did you show us love but when we started to have children your love See Uncle Dave, on page 8

FOUNDING THOUGHTS
By William “Bill Blair Elite News Founder
Another loss in the family It was about ten days ago when the news reached me that there had been another loss in the Blair family. My son-in-law, David Lynch, had passed away, stricken with the same dreaded disease that took my son, Randy. The news seemed so unfair. David was a marvelous spouse to my daughter, Terri, and their three children, my grands. David was a wonderful young man. He was short to anger and in command of excellence. He lived his life with a divine purpose. It was rare to see him brooding. I was very pleased that he married my daughter. Now, I must travel to Houston, where they live, to participate in the service that will celebrate his life. I will also have to comfort his wife and their children. This journey called life can sometimes be mysterious. It was beyond my wildest dreams that I would bury two of my sons and now, a beloved son-inlaw before they had reached their 60s. If you had told me I would have laughed.

Ultimately, I must bring myself to accept the will of God. It was his decision to take these young, and to take my eldest son, his wife and children way before their time on earth had been made. One day, as certain as the sun will rise in the morning, it will be my time and I will hear the trumpets blow. For now, I am praying for Terri and her family. They had experienced another loss. May God continue to richly bless them? September 7, 2012

the crab meat and soaked it in The Whole Sha Bang seasoning OMG what a treat. My soul was so happy and so was my stomach. Never mind the messy hands there are plenty of paper towels at each table to deal with that. Never mind it is brought to you in a plastic bag, yes a plastic bag and in a pail. Never mind that everyone gets their own bag placed in front of them. Sit back, dig in, sop up the seasoning with your meat and enjoy your meal. Now when I got to the last leg and the last of the crab meat I was disappointed I did not order more. I am grateful this restaurant is not closer to me because I would visit way too many times. CELEBRATING 52 YEARS OF SERVING THE CHURCH AND COMMUNITY
NFL Predictions By Aaron Nagler Special to the Elite News With all of those meaningless games out of the way, I thought now would be as good a time as any to present to you, dear readers, my picks for the 2012 NFL season. I look forward to your level-headed comments and reasoned debates in the comments section. 2012 Final Standings NFC East 1. New York Giants 2. Philadelphia Eagles 3. Dallas Cowboys 4. Washington Redskins These teams always end up beating each other up, and this year will be no different. The Giants have the best quarterback and head coach, which are probably the two most significant components for winning in today's NFL. The Eagles edge out the Cowboys for the wild card, only because I have an unexplainable belief that they will get to the quarterback more often than the Cowboys. The Redskins have an exciting young quarterback and an underrated defense that will keep them in games. NFC North 1. Green Bay Packers 2. Chicago Bears 3. Detroit Lions 4. Minnesota Vikings The Packers almost went undefeated with one of the worst passing defenses in NFL history. They look to have added just enough pass rush to take the pressure off of their evolving secondary. The Bears have enough talent to push the Packers, especially on offense. The Lions can score with anyone, but that secondary will give up as many points, if not more. As for the Vikings, they'll be a tough out on every team's schedule, especially at home, but they're at least a year away from seriously competing. NFC South 1. New Orleans Saints 2. Atlanta Falcons 3. Carolina Panthers 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head coaches? We don't need no stinking head coaches. So say the Saints, whose offense shouldn't skip a beat under coordinator Pete Carmichael and quarterback Drew Brees. The Falcons have the playmakers on offense, but I worry about their ability to keep Matt Ryan upright. The Panthers should have the Rookie Defensive Player of the Year in Luke Kuechly, but the defense is still a big question mark. I really like what new Bucs head coach Greg Page 6
Schiano has done in building his first NFL roster, but they are still a year away.
Who's In Charge AFTER You Die? Dr. Timothy J. Brown
NFC West
Visit our website for our Free e-book filled with answers to the most common questions about estate planning in Texas.
1. Seattle Seahawks 2. San Francisco 49ers 3. St. Louis Rams 4. Arizona Cardinals I tend to think the "49ers and everyone else" mentality when it comes to the NFC West has gotten a little out of control. The Niners are immensely talented, but they had a lot break right for them last season. The Seahawks have made up the gap and should be an equally tough out this year. The Rams have a good quarterback, a very good running back and a decent collection of talent up front on defense (Michael Brockers injury notwithstanding). The Cardinals should continue the improved play we saw on the defensive side of the ball last year, but their quarterbacks will sink them. AFC East 1. New England Patriots 2. Buffalo Bills 3. New York Jets 4. Miami Dolphins The Patriots should have an improved pass rush, which in turn should improve what was a pretty porous secondary last year. Brady and company look to be as potent as ever. The Bills spent a bunch of money because they think they're on the cusp of being a contender. I tend to agree. The Jets will showcase an excellent defense and a suspect offense. I just don't see how they'll score points. The Dolphins are serious contenders for the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

I have to admit, I'm still not 100 percent on board with the Ravens' use of the no-huddle, but they looked good doing it in preseason. Of course, that's preseason. Every year, everyone writes the Steelers off, and every year they win 10 to 12 games. I think they'll be as good as ever. The Bengals have to start beating the better teams on their schedule. If and when they can do that consistently, I'll take them seriously as contenders. The Browns—oh, the Browns. They have a decent defense and a rookie quarterback who will be going through major growing pains in 2012. www.dfwelitenews.com

CELEBRATING 52 YEARS OF SERVING THE CHURCH AND COMMUNITY
ROLLIN WITH A BROTHA By Kevan Browning Welcome to the weekend, Baaaby! The best thing about a long holiday weekend is that it leads to a 4 day work week! Congrats to former Channel 8 News Anchor Debbie Denmon on her new gig as "Director Of Communications" for the Dallas County DA's office! Look for more from the talented Ms. Denmon in the coming months on local TV! The Democratic National Convention simply rocked this week from Charlotte, North Carolina! If you are awake now, wake someone else up! If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, waz up?! Get the whole voting scoop at http:// votetexas.gov/faq/ and cast your ballot! Hope Debbie Denmon you had a chance over the last 2 weeks to sit down with your kids and watch the RNC and DNC. Just the audience make ups would have identified who the "peoples" party is! The secret to 4 more years of an Obama Administration is for you to get out and vote! The Republican party is praying that you don't, as a low voter turnout gives them a greater chance of putting Rich "Mitt" in The White House! Now that would be a tragedy. Finally on politics, Nicki Minaj says she was just joking about being a Republican and voting for Romney in one of her songs... Nicki, your outfits are whacky, your political senses are out of whack and anyone that would be influenced by Nicki's politics is right there at the edge of silly!! I'm sure Minaj is feeling the heat, as many are lighting her up on this! Sad news this week that Michael Clark Duncan passed. Duncan, a Chicago native, who was engaged to reality star Omarosa, had a heart attack on July 31st and never fully recovered. Ever wanted to tell that mother of the out of control kid just what to do and where to go??? Well, Patti Labelle did just that, reportedly cursing and slinging a bottle of water when dealing with a mom and her unruly 18 month old youth, lol... Cost of the water 1 dollar...Cost of the cursing and water bottle toss? $100,000 dollars. The principal business of Tee L. Mayfield is the production of tee-shirts. She can get them for clients, whether they are for a family reunion or high school pep rally, at a better price and in a better condition that most people in the business. Yet, the highlight of dealing with Ms. Mayfield, who lives in Addison with her three children, is her enormous spirit and dedication to customer satisfaction that has been a part of her business she was opened it in 2008. “I love people and I love doing business with them,” said Mayfield, who was raised in the city of Houston, Texas and employee three people. “I believe in outstanding customer service and in making people feel happy about their business relationship with me.” A single parent who attends Texas Woman’s University, Mayfield said that one of her ultimate goals is the creation of a service center for small businesses, organizations, churches and individuals. “It is something that God has laid on my heart to do and I am going to see it accomplished.”
“I have always been driven by the pursuit of excellence,” said Mayfield who landed in the tee-shirt business after assisting a former friend who had attempted to mold a successful company. “It was not something that I had planned to do. It was something that God laid on my heart and I knew that I had to obey.” A member of the Junior League of Dallas, Mayfield volunteers extensively with Tee L. Mayfield charitable groups. “I believe that we have to give to others if we are going to e successful,” she said. “God honors those who serve others. God does not bestow plenty on those who are selfish. I believe that abundance will come to me and my company only if I give in abundance.” Mayfield works with customers, helping them crate their own designs. She employs a team of artists that design the images requested by clients. A perfectionist, she does not believe in giving people second rate work. When the committee that helped state Rep. Helen Giddings with a recent golf
tournament sought a tee-shirt vendor, they were led to Mayfield. “After speaking with a number of vendors and speaking with Ms. Mayfield we knew that we had found the person who could help us with our vision,” said a committee member. “She gave us the best price, she had the best attitude and demeanor and her level of customer service and education surpassed any of the other vendors.” “I want to reach out to potential customers in a loving way,” said Mayfield, who can be reached at tee@maydogpromos.com or by calling 214-564-4379

CELEBRATING 52 YEARS OF SERVING THE CHURCH AND COMMUNITY
A Pastor Born to Serve By Joseph Green-Bishop Elite News
Many years ago, before there was cable television or phones that took photographs, God gave birth to a young man in West Dallas and mandated that his life be one of service to others with little thought of self. And such has been the life of Reverend Charles Lightner, the pastor of the New Comforter Church of God in Christ, whose mother, Callie Burks, raised four sons in government housing while suffering from a disability. After graduating from Sequoyah Junior High School, Charles found whatever jobs he could to help support his mother and three brothers. He worked as a golf caddy and washed dishes to bring income into their home. “My pastor at the Vineyard Church of God In Christ, Reverend W. E. Searuggs, made a tremendous impact on my life, he said. “I was called to
Our sincerest apologies
the ministry when I was 16 years old. While a member of the ministerial staff at his church, Reverend Lightner was charged with taking senior citizens home after service. He listened to their histories and their woes as he drove them in his 1951 Ford Convertible. “Many of them were treated so badly by their relatives that they did not want to get out of my car when we arrived at their homes, said Pastor Lightner, whose church, under his leadership, and with the financial support of his members, built twenty-four apartments for people who were having difficulty finding suitable housing. “It took our church two decades to save up for the down payment and it cost $1.3 million to build, but we opened the Cedar Oaks Retirement Center because it was something that God wanted us to do, said Pastor Lightner, whose wife, Margie, assists him in his
ministry. For 10 years Pastor Lightner, the father of three sons, was the maintenance man for the housing units. Residents, who must be sixtyfive years of age or older or disabled, pay thirty percent of their income towards the rental of their units. The remainder is paid by a program administered by the city of Dallas. “Recently working with Prosperity Bank and its president, Perry J. Johnson, we were able to refinance the units, Pastor Johnson said. “Larry Taylor from the Cochran Firm and Ricky Terrell are assisting us in providing renter’s insurance to the residents. In the near future Pastor Lightner hopes to begin a computer learning center for the residents of Cedar Oaks, as well as a nutrition program. “Our pastor was sent by God to serve people, said Mrs. Dorothy Daily, one of Pastor Lightner’s 300 members. “He is a wonderful human being.

Reaping and Sowing By Geraldine DavidsonHooker
"...For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap." (v: 7).
In God’s Word, we see the affects of sowing to the flesh and sowing to the spirit. If we are sowing to the spirit, we will reap eternal life. If we are sowing to our flesh, we will reap from the flesh, decay and ruin. If we are sowing anger, bitterness, jealousy, resentment, hateful feelings, lust, sexual immorality, filthy talk and joking etc., we will reap those things in our lives. We need to refuse to allow ourselves to dwell on these things. All of these will eventually take root and become part of who we are. Once we get roots in our lives, it is hard work to up-root it. The way to not let it take root is to nip-it-in-the-bud (so

to speak). As soon as we start having these thoughts, we need to recognize it and refuse to think on it. We have to be on guard and be listening to God when He points it out to us, for quite often we may not even realize the thoughts we're entertaining are wrong. Sometimes we may even think it's justifiable. Let us keep on sowing to the Spirit. It says in V: 9, "And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint." Even though we are diligently doing what the Lord requires and being obedient to the Lord's promptings, it can seem that nothing much is happening - and it's not making a difference. But don't give up - for we shall reap at the appointed time if we do not faint. Let's just keep on doing what God would have us do - being a blessing and sharing with others, especially our brothers and sisters in the faith, and God will take care of the rest. Just remember, we will reap that which we sow!
