Donaukanal It is the ancient path of Donau river, diverted at the beginning of 20th century.
Donau river It is the main city river, surrounded by a green ring, and the highway, city centre new development.

This is the center of Wien, enclosed by the Ring after the demolition of urban ancient walls in 1857
strong defining element, moving through a series of famous Wien landmarks.
Project Area This is a neglected area, very close to downtown on Wien river, and shared by four different districts.
Wien Flughafen This is Wien International Airport, the main gate to the city.
Network
The phenomenon of visible and invisible connections through which communication takes place, and the movement between different sets of individuals and objects generates a complex point-articulated system.
THE PLOT SEEMS REALLY MESSED UP... NO CONNECTION WITH THE CITY! MAYBE WE COULD WEAVE AGAIN A WEB HERE...
invisible network layer has the main goal in reconnecting this banned area up with the city, creating an urban infrastructure that improves social life and enables crossings throughout the area.

once the guidelines are planned, begins the process of simplification of analysis; because of area’s great complexity and presence of massive infrastructures which tear off the area from the city [Wien river, Margareten and Gaudenzdorfer Gürtel, two metro lines and one light-train line]. the entire area is divided in four compartments to better analyse and solve urban matters.

WHY DONT WE USE ARCHITECTURE TO REDIRECT AND ORGANIZE THE PLOT ???
Flux knot diagram bring congestion to a single point solving it through tilted paths around the major public building.
All internal fluxes and entries in the area are now focusing on one single point, location of a public building with community purposes; like with a gordian knot, our proposal is to solve this task with one strong gesture which should bring together architecture and movement. Community centre becomes a huge urban system with flux displacement characteristics, able to connect project area with outer parts of the city.
QUITE LIKE A GORDIAN KNOT HERE FLOWS ARE REALLY HARD TO DECIPHER

Housing lighting system
Housing lighting follows the principle of changing of architectural perception; while during the day the most dominant element is the wooden shell, during the night balconies gain new relevance, due to the fact they are the only enlighted element apart light coming from inside the houses. Color becomes a nightly architectural composition.

External lighting system
External lighting is based on the idea of light shaping in time: enabling strong changes in illumination in the whole project area creates new architectural conditions and perception shifting. Light system is fundamentally divided in two typologies: long corten poles, provided with LEDs for a more diffusive enlightment (with also the possibility of changing colors for environmental light) and linear neon lights, for stronger illumination of the paths in early hours. Two other lighting system are installed in dark concrete benches; one for below diffusive enlightment, and another made by light cuts in the concrete structure, which provides a mild signal of the presence of the bench.

Gürtel bridge lighting system
Gürtel Bridge is a new light pedestrian-cycle bridge over the Gürtel; this naturally puts it in competition with Wagner bridge. To solve this problem, the new infrastructure is designed in a simple linear way and characterized with mild light coming directly from structural steel elements, very similar to the external lamps: this provides an enlightment that doesn’t disturb the presence of Wagner bridge.

L.E.D. inner enlightment of steel beams perception of silhouettes
Bridge lighting is thought to make this massive infrastructure gain more dominance within the whole project; the entire area is in fact designed not to overcome the bridge, nor to harm its great perceptive power. The brigde is thus enlighted only in the steel beams, from the inside: by night can be seen bridge’s entire silhouette.
