This cover shot screams confidence and beauty. As soon as we laid eyes on this shot, taken by our friend Allie Silvernale of Silvernale Photography, we knew we had our Issue 14 cover. This shoot came together as a result of our longtime friendship with Mary Ellen of Timberview Flower Farm on the Northwest side of Evansville. We knew we wanted to create an inspiration shoot that showed couples how beautiful an outdoor or backyard wedding could look using only locally sourced flowers from our local flower farms. With buckets and buckets of floral ready for us to place and a gorgeous painted counter to display them on, we knew we had created a perfect spot for our cake tablescape. The rest was up to our model Destiny Gunn and photographer Allie who together created this stunning shot that shows exactly what it takes to be a superb photographer – composition, lighting and model coordination. When you have the photographer experience and artistic eye, you can create powerful shots that evoke emotions.

Bobbi Hammonds

Julia Baker

Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief JoElle Knight has been in the event and wedding business for over 15 years. Whether it is coordinating and creating community events for area non-profits, creating beauty for weddings and many of the styled shoots you see on these pages, or getting giddy over new wedding venues, she always has an eye for quality, design and new trends. Obsessed with décor, DIY projects and home renovations, she loves to overhaul houses and bring personality into her surroundings. When she is not writing, creating or designing, she is with her 3 kids and husband dreaming of new projects, summer yard sales and epic books. You can follow her on Instagram at @sycamorelifestyle

Web & Graphic Designer Bobbi has been our website guru since ENGAGED debuted, and she now handles the layout of each issue. Bobbi began her graphic career over 10 years ago, specializing in design and hand illustration. Her artistry can also be found in many of our photoshoots showcasing her 5 Pink Peonies LLC, custom stationery. A woman of many talents, she has written a children’s book, magazine articles and assisted many local businesses with their branding and marketing. Her greatest work, though, comes at home as the mother of 5 girls, one of which has special needs. She has become an advocate for local families dealing with children with special needs, and her handicap parking campaign has been featured on multiple local news sources. Bobbi’s idea of fun are home renovation projects, whimsical drawings, being with her family, and going to Disney World, her happiest place on earth. Follow her on Instagram @my_5_girls

Co-founder and Managing Editor Nikki Davis has been a leader in the local wedding industry for almost 20 years. She began her wedding career as a photographer then moved into producing local wedding shows. In 2007, she founded the Evansville Wedding Networking Group to connect local wedding vendors and create friendships. Her passion for giving back has led her to be a driving force behind many local non-profit agencies and initiatives. Nikki is the organizational mind behind ENGAGED, where she uses her networking and writing skills to provide information and inspiration to local brides and connecting them to the local vendors that can bring their wedding to life. She lives in the Historic Boehne House in Evansville, where she, her husband and 2 kids take care of a menagerie of pets. Check out more about Nikki and her family's many adopted pets on Instagram at @1000milemom

Accounts Manager Just call her Mama Bear. Julia is not only our accounts manager, she is also Editor-inChief, JoElle Knight’s mother. With a career in sales, education and small business management, she was the perfect fit for representing ENGAGED! For years, she witnessed the passion and hard work put into the creation of the magazine and we couldn’t be happier to have her at the helm of our partner accounts. You will find no one else who champions the ENGAGED! brand more. When she is not building relationships in our local wedding industry, she is loving on her grandchildren, traveling or doing home-reno projects.

DESTINATIONS & HONEYMOONS

Our World Has Changed

2020 is a year that not many of us will ever forget. COVID 19 changed our world and many things within it. The pandemic has created many disappointments for those who had planned weddings, honeymoons, family vacations or any form of travel, just to name a few. How do we move forward in terms of travel? This is a very personal decision and circumstance for each of us. It is suggested to follow the guidance of the CDC and the guidelines of the destination you wish to visit. Be aware of new protocols that may be enforced. Many destinations are requiring that you be quarantined upon arrival for 14 days or provide a negative COVID19 test within 48-72 hours of arrival. When you are ready to fly, you will be asked to wear a mask in the airport, boarding and deboarding the plane and while flying. You may be asked to complete a health assessment form upon check-in. Some airlines are blocking middle seats to help with social distancing and most likely will not be coming down the aisle to serve beverages and snacks. ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY

Cruising will have the cleanest ships in history. Many new safety measurements will be in effect. Temperatures or thermal   scans may be taken every time you get on or off the ship, no self-serve buffets and limitations on the amount of people in entertainment areas. Hotel and resorts may have similar new protocols. Know that travel will look different. My advice, if you choose to travel, is to stay informed, know the cancellation policies, purchase travel insurance and take advantage of your local travel agency. By supporting local you get an expert that is able to leverage their industry experience and relationships with suppliers to secure a more favorable

resolution ~ in terms of rebooking and refunds than you could achieve on your own and with far less aggravation. Travel advisors have your back before, during and after your travels. No one has a crystal ball on how this pandemic will continue, but remember in terms of travel, be patient, be prepared for the new protocols and travel when you feel most comfortable. The world is waiting, and I personally can’t wait to get back out there. Tina Brunck Travel Smart

SKINCARE

Airbrush Makeup What is airbrush makeup? Airbrush makeup artistry is a patented makeup application technique that utilizes compressed air to spray on a fine mist of makeup. It is a preferred technique for digital photography, high definition TV, and bridal work. Airbrushing makeup provides a camera ready texture that lays on the skin in an even, misted pattern, creating the most natural finish to the naked eye that’s virtually invisible on the digital screen. How does it feel? Airbrush makeup is exceptionally lightweight. Most clients say they feel as if they aren’t even wearing makeup. What are the benefits of airbrush makeup? Airbrush makeup provides flawless coverage by minimizing skin imperfections while giving skin a beautifully natural finished looking result. It is water resistant and will last for up to fifteen hours or more. Is airbrush makeup right for everyone? Airbrush makeup is suitable for people of all ages and every skin condition. The makeup is hypoallergenic and fragrance free.

Locked in Love

JESSICA AND RYAN Jessica and Ryan met while working together as confinement officers. She   always thinks it is funny to tell people who ask, that they met in jail! Ryan is a self-described nerdy, comic book loving, jock while Jessica is an outgoing, animal loving, free spirit. While they loved being around each other and became friends, it still took Ryan 3 years to get the nerve up to ask Jessica out on a date. Their first date included dinner, drinks and four-wheeling to a railroad bridge that overlooked his family home. After a year and a half of dating, there was no other place more perfect for Ryan to pop the question than at that special place where their journey to love started. When they became married they joke that they became a blended family, having both adopted rescue animals for years. Their wedding day was a beautiful occasion held at Kokies Echo Valley with its rolling grounds, huge trees and lovely pond. Jessica had spent a year gathering ideas from Pinterest to create all her own beautiful decorations and sourced her flowers from local gem, Timberview Flower Farm. They were so happy to get married at a venue that could accommodate all their family and friends as they celebrated the love and union of their families, pets and all!

TAYLOR AND TYLER Tyler and Taylor always knew of each other as they had mutual friends in high school but they really did not get to know each other until they happened to work at the same place. They hit it off, but it was shortlived as Taylor moved away for school and they lost touch. Taylor says she honestly thought they had missed their chance at love. Luckily, Taylor eventually moved back and soon reconnected with Tyler. They were quickly swept up in a whirlwind romance and Tyler began planning his proposal. He waited until they went on vacation with his family to Daytona, Florida. Taking Taylor to a lighthouse, he waited until everyone else had left the top and asked her to be his wife. He was so nervous he almost dropped the ring off of the lighthouse! They planned their wedding ceremony to be a lovely outdoor event held at a family friend’s property in the country overlooking a pond. To go with the fall time, Taylor chose colors of burgundy, navy blue, rose gold and blush with lots of wild greenery. It was a chilly but beautiful fall day which had always been a dream of Taylor’s.

EMMA & RYAN

Emma and Ryan met after Emma’s roommate and her boyfriend invited Ryan over to surprise Emma. Luckily for the would-be matchmakers, Emma and Ryan immediately felt a spark. Soon they were moving in together, getting two dogs and eventually became engaged! When it came time to plan their wedding they wanted it to be a fun affair filled with games. Both of them are game people and made sure and had plenty of activities for their guests to enjoy between the ceremony and dinner, including cornhole, giant Jenga, a word search and a crossword puzzle. Incorporating their dogs a.k.a. puppers, Piper and Ginger was also very important to them. They even made the cake topper be of their fur babies! Another special part of their ceremony was having Emma’s stepdad officiate as he had seen their relationship grow and the love they had for one another. Having the wedding at Tanglewood was the perfect fit with its rustic elegance, outdoor options and tons of space. They couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to say their vows in front of their family and friends.

JENNAH AND STEVEN Steven and Jennah first met in high school chemistry class. However, they were in different friend groups and didn’t
really know each other at the time. In college, Steven showed interest, but it wasn’t until after college that they officially began dating. For his proposal, Steven organized a private, behind-the-scenes tour at Mesker Park Zoo to see the otters, one of Jennah’s favorite animals. Jennah’s boss was even in on it and helped plan her day off as a delayed birthday present. Steven popped the question to Jennah right in front of the otters! They planned to get married on March 28th with a beautiful brunch reception — mimosas, waffles, made-to-order omelets and more. Every detail was nailed d o w n . Th e n COV I D h a p p e n e d . Limitations became strict, changing daily, across the country. On Sunday night, March 15th, Jennah looked at Steven and said “There's too much uncertainty, let's get just married Tuesday.” After all, what matters the most at the end of the day, is the marriage, love and commitment, not the ceremony details or reception. Jennah took off work Monday to re-plan the ceremony and coordinate all the vendors. They were able to pull together a romantic and intimate Tuesday ceremony with a small group of family and friends. The two loved the idea that they were two redheads, getting married on St. Patrick’s Day, with the wedding color of green! While there was no reception, no cake, and no perfectly arranged table decor, the two did make sure to do their special first dance, before heading out to take sunset photos. The pandemic continued to shake things up, causing a cancelled honeymoon but they were finally able to get away in July for a couple days to celebrate as Mr. & Mrs. ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY

KHRISTIAN AND TYLER It took Tyler some work to find out who the beautiful woman on the UE Basketball
was. After seeing Khristian’s team poster picture featured there and then again in the local paper, he just knew he had to meet her and found her and messaged her on Twitter. Amazingly, she gave him her phone number and they began texting back and forth for several days. After feeling they knew each other better they decided to go on a date. Both of them realized fairly quickly that they had found the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. So sure were they in their relationship, they both agreed to start coaching girl’s basketball together at North High School! It was in December after a basketball practice that Tyler proposed. They both knew they wanted their wedding date to symbolize something special and decided on September 1st since Tyler wore the #9 while playing college baseball, and Khristian wore the #1 while playing college basketball. Tyler even surprised Khristian by writing on the bottom of her wedding sneakers, “I’ll be with you every step of the way.” They were married at Cambridge Golf Course with its sweeping views and classic wedding hall. Khristian made sure that she did not one, but two, fatherdaughter first looks. One with her father and the other with Tyler’s father. The reception was decorated in navy with blush accents and accessorized with floral centerpieces and candles. The day was so much fun. Laughter, dancing and love... everything they wanted for their wedding day. ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY

Emily is able to play indoors or outdoors, which makes it a great instrument to select for your wedding, especially with a lot of weddings moving outdoors during the pandemic. Emily shares, “With the modern bride opting for non-traditional wedding sites, the harp is able to be setup and played outside or in a newly popular wedding and event barn. Most harpists only require and request that they not be asked to play in the rain, though shade is greatly appreciated on a very hot day. Another great option, especially if the wedding and cocktail hour are at the same place is to hire the harpist to play at both the wedding and then the cocktail hour of the wedding. It's fairly easy to move the harp from one place to another if the wedding ceremony and cocktail hour are in the same general location. A harpist does not require amplification or electricity,

EMALINE AND BRADEN College newbies Braden and Emaline definitely weren’t looking for love when they met
in their very first class in August of 2015. After having multiple classes together, they kept crossing paths and eventually started doing homework together. In March of 2016, they began dating and have been inseparable since! Living the busy college life, they were both getting their degrees and working. However, Braden still managed to surprise Emaline in April of 2018! “I got home from work, and Braden had the room set up with rose petals from the door all the way to a hand painted sign that said “Will You Marry Me?” It was perfect!” They went through different options of venues and eventually fell in love with The Roofless Church. It was everything they were looking for in a venue; with its unique design and was the perfect size to fit all their guests. For their reception, they chose the Ribeyre Center. “It was so airy and the perfect canvas for our vision, plus Braden liked to tell people the gym was from a scene in the ‘A League of their own!' Their wedding decor was filled with romantic white and soft pink roses that matched the bridesmaid dresses, eucalyptus, and gold accents. The wedding glowed with personal touches, like the couple's favorite cookies made by their families. When asked about some special details, Emaline said: “Filling the Ribeyre Center with fresh flowers and greenery was really a dream come true; it surpassed all of our wildest dreams for that day. It was the hottest day of the year thus far but there was no rain in sight! It was perfect, and we could not have done it without both of our families!”

Forever Friends

SUMMER AND JOSH Beautiful bride Summer met her future husband in high school. Looking back, she would’ve laughed at the thought of her future and called you crazy! He would randomly message her, and they grew to be the best of friends. “Something about marrying your high school sweetheart is one of the best feelings in the world. You transform into adults together, you experience so many of life's 'first’s' together, you go through so many things and understand each other in ways that no one else can.” Their boho wedding was the perfect, laid back fit for the couple. The main goal was for their loved ones to be comfortable and relaxed! There were some hiccups though! Like losing the rings! Both sides of the family and friends came together to help look for them and luckily found them 30 mins later. “During those 30 minutes we didn't move, held hands and just smiled at each other knowing this is a moment we will always cherish and told each other we loved each other.” The reception couldn’t have fallen into place better! The couples’ first dance was romantic and felt like it was just the two of them. Memories were made that will be cherished in their hearts forever! Summer speaks fondly of her perfect day, “If I could relive that day all over again, I would in a heartbeat and not change a thing about it! The boy who gave me those butterflies in my stomach when I was 14 years old, still gives them to me now as my husband. I am living happily ever after with my high school sweetheart and forever best friend!”
