Summer is upon us and the children will soon be breaking up for the holidays. So, we’re back with more fabulous ideas to keep them all suitably entertained and worn out over the weeks ahead. We’ve packed so much into this issue… life behind bars, joining the circus, roller discos, boutique festivals, horse rides on the beach, yoga retreats, pirate fun runs, and going down the mines – you name it, we’ve covered it! Formerly known as Cornwall’s Crealy, Camel Creek Adventure Park really is a fantastic place to take the children over the break, with exhilarating rides, attractions, cute animals and also a large, all-weather indoor play centre for the toddlers. We take a look at some of the rides and upcoming events. We also pay a visit to Indoor Active, home to Clip ‘n Climb and Soft Play. Conveniently located on the A30 at Cornwall Services, it’s the perfect antidote for a rainy day, or the ideal location for your children’s birthday parties. And the Maritime Museum is always popular too!

Last but not least, we finish things off with another tasty recipe courtesy of Lizzie at Little Kitchen Magicians – a scrummy granola breakfast treat.

Let them run wild Want something to tire out those little balls of energy? With 1700 square feet of fun, including challenging climbs, a rope bridge, crafty crawl tubes, peekaboo bubble windows and the astra-glide slide, Jungle Jack’s is just the place. There’s something for everyone at Jack’s, including a dedicated baby and toddler safe-play area, ample seating for the grown ups, a well-stocked café as well as free WiFi, so you can kick back with a sandwich and a brew while the kids get stuck in. What’s more, the team at Jungle Jack’s recognise that not all little ones thrive in the hustle and bustle of a busy play area which is why the centre provides quieter sessions, focussed on kids with different needs. Running once a month from 5pm to 6.30pm, these sessions ensure that all kids can have a blast, let off some steam and stick to their bedtime!

Discover your heritage at Poldark Mine Keep the children entertained with a visit to Poldark Mine. A great day out for all the family, Cornwall’s only complete underground tin mine, just outside of Helston, really is unique. An exceptionally well-preserved piece of Cornwall heritage, a visit to Poldark Mine is a chance to discover more about your history – fun and educational in equal measure. Explore the underground labyrinths and caverns, learn about tin production,
marvel at the mighty mid-19th century beam engine, explore the museum and open air exhibits. As you may well have guessed, the ine was use for un ergroun fil ing for the BBC’s Poldark series in 2014. The mine is set in four acres of riverside woodland and gardens on the River Cober valley. The underground tours are considered to be “one of the two most atmospheric mine tours in Europe” in the words of the former chairman of English Heritage. Poldark Mine can probably also lay claim to being one of the most unique wedding venues in Cornwall, deep underground. Look out for upcoming events and exhibitions at this jewel in the crown of Cornish mining.

et’s be honest, no one wants to do time under lock and key – that is, unless they are paying a visit to Bodmin Jail, a fascinating visitor attraction packed with scary displays and intriguing insights. A visit to the historic county jail this summer makes for an exciting and educational family day out with a difference. Have your children been learning about the Victorians or acting as detectives to solve crimes in school? They’ll discover more about past crimes that have been committed and why people were locked up, with direct links to The National and Inspire Curriculums. While there, why not sample some of the great food on offer from the jail’s kitchen? The 18th century lock up is well known for its spooky ghost tours, gruesome exhibitions, and enthralling educational activities. It may not, howe er, be the first place that springs to mind if you’re looking to eat out. But, with the appointment of new Head Chef Paul Scott, you can expect some truly delicious
prison food! Paul has cooked for personalities including David Bowie, Nancy Sinatra, Prince Charles and Israel’s former Prime Minister. Delicious dishes cooked up by Paul include Cornish Hake loin steak served with Cornish asparagus and lemon cream sauce and creamed mash potato. A new seasonal menu is soon to be announced and we’re really excited to see what Paul comes up with. With captivating fresh exhibits, including the UK’s only fully-functioning execution pit, it’s not just for the little ones either. Bodmin Jail is guaranteed to inspire, inform and enlighten all in full or part time education; whether learning about design and spatial planning, creati e writing or fil a ing, this is a must-visit venue for all!

THINGS Timeless and elegant, we take a look at the new I I onverti le.
A
s the summer draws upon us and we start dreaming of open-air thrill rides on the winding, sun-baked roads of the south west, we’re brought swiftly back to reality as we consider our unforgiving bankrolls. Owning an open-top car in which to take a sunny Sunday cruise, as you leave the kids with the in-laws, must surely cost a fortune, and yet… Once again changing the game, MINI's new soft-top promises to convert your dreams into a reality. Never failing to turn heads, the MINI Cooper has, for decades, been on our radar as one of the all-time great, iconic British cars. As the years have gone by, the name has rolled with the times and to this day is still produced, in all its modern glory, blessing our roads with the same unique style and minute attention to detail that we’ve become accustomed to. So what is it, exactly, that makes this the ultimate open-top alternative to breaking the bank? This MINI is packed with innovations and an array of features that you simply won t fin in any other car taying ahea of the weather with the ‘Rain Warner’ feature, for instance, gives you a timely heads up to roll up the roof, rather than fin ing yourself
compromised in a summery shower as other soft-tops would have you do. What’s more, the interior really packs a punch: as you mount your new steed, you’re called to action with the projected MINI logo, greeting you as you enter the car. As the roof rolls back, you’ll be sure to set the ‘Always Open Timer’ to zero before you set off, making sure you measure every breezy moment spent cruising, al fresco. The electrical hood itself allows the roof to come down in a mere 20 silent seconds, also providing a comfortable middle ground where the gentlest breeze will su ce the sunroof feature. Available in an impressive 13 colours, this car is unique down to the last detail and in fact, it s har to fin a reason not to lo e it The MINI Convertible, the latest in a long line of truly iconic cars, yet again bears testament to the fact that good things really do come in small packages. eeping up with the kids and their endless store of energy isn’t always easy, especially with summer upon us and our minor counterparts about to break the reins of school. Fortunately, nestled in the heart of Cornwall, ready and waiting, is Camel Creek – the county’s greatest adventure park. Situated near Wadebridge, it’s so much more than the perfect family day out and what’s more, you can even make a stay of it with the par s fi e star self catering holi ay cottages, or pitch up on the campsite. Reasons to get excited include the 5D Super i heatre an up, own, si e to si e experience that ensures exhilaration. Guests are put through their paces as they embark on an extraordinary journey, from escaping sea serpents and battling pirates, to steering well clear of the mystical mermaids’ wrath – get your 3D glasses on and hold on tight! On exiting the theatre, adrenaline junkies can hit the rides, enjoying views over the par whilst spinning on the nine etre tall ying carousel, a e i er u ing explorers can make a splash on the Raging
Rivers and Thunder Falls before plummeting to earth on a ri e ustly title he east There is also 40,000 square feet of heated, indoor play area, should the weather take a turn, making Camel Creek an all round, whate er the weather ay out It’s not all thrills and spills though; a meerkat enclosure, reptile house, bug wall and stunning shire horses – to name but a few a e for an en oyably infor ati e safari for the little ones. For an extra special day, Camel Creek now provides Junior Keeper Experiences for children over the age of 8, so they can get up close and personal with the park’s favourite, furry friends. Camel Creek is a sterling day out, at any time of the year, but as summer arrives and the kids break out of school, Cornwall’s greatest adventure park really earns its reputation.
