IT’S ADVENTURE TIME Having spent the last 21 years dedicating their time to providing families with a memorable day out, Kidzworld looks forward to 2017 and another year of family fun.

I

t’s a cold and wintery day outside and for some reason the children don’t fancy an exhilarating walk along the Cornish coast. So what to do? There must be a way of getting them out of the house and doing something engaging and active! Get them away from the screens, into the car and take them to the award-winning Kidzworld, the perfect place for children of all ages to spend a day getting stuck into a myriad of fun and exciting activities! They can plunge into the mega ball pool, test their driving skills on the dodgems, climb to their hearts’ content on the SkyTrail and take aim in LaserTag. Or if these don’t take their fancy they can try out some rollerskating, the sensory room and the cannon ball arena. Honestly, with so many choices one day might not be enough! For the younger participants, there is also an under fours area, complete with sofas so you can sit back and relax in comfort as you watch your little ones have the time of their lives. As impressive as these facilities are, it doesn’t seem to be enough for the team over at Kidzworld as they are planning some spectacular new additions for 2017. The

under fours area will be updated with a specially designed toddler and baby play area, to ensure that any age is completely catered for during your fun day out. And speaking of catering for, to save you valuable enjoyment time a new coffee and snack bar is going to be built to help keep those busy queues to a minimum! And finally, they are planning to add some bounce to their selection with trampolines and a bouncy obstacle course, an idea that certainly has me jumping for joy! This any-weather day out is simply a must and should be the first thing on your family’s 2017 to-do list. So, invite friends, family and even your neighbours to this endlessly entertaining Cornish day out.

Shufflebum trousers work hard so your little ones can play harder! After watching her son shuffle his way from A to B, dragging his leg as he traversed from one place to the next, Tara decided something had to be done to halt the seemingly endless stream of ruined clothes. Rather than wrapping him up like it was winter, Tara began to scour parent support groups and toddler groups in search of a solution, at which point it became abundantly clear that there was a serious gap in the market for something hardwearing, comfortable and protective of delicate skin. “So I got my thinking cap on. If I couldn’t buy it, I’d have to make it.” And so Shufflebum was born! Blending her knowledge of fabric technology with experience in the motorcycle industry, Tara was able to create a range of clothing that, simply put, lets children be children. By donning a pair of Shufflebums, kids can learn to negotiate their surroundings comfortably and, most importantly, in their own way. Of course, that these clothes look great is a welcome bonus and their long-lasting, easycare benefits speak for themselves!

GAME ON!

As the demand for live game experiences grows, Eden Project has once again kept pace; introducing Eden Escape: Alien Rescue.

E

den Escape is a fantastic new example of the increasingly popular ‘escape room’ game-type. Originating in Japan, there are now 3000 escape rooms around the world, each allowing participants to play alongside real actors, solving puzzles and working as part of a team in order, as you might have guessed, to escape the room! Hailing this new, immersive experience as one of the most exciting game concepts to date, the team behind London’s Time Run – Ben Mason and Dean Rodgers – have supported production company, The Tom Sawyer Effect, in bringing the Alien Rescue dream to life. Running on dates from Saturday 14th January to Friday 10th February, Eden Escape will lock players in an ‘alien quarantine zone’, allowing them only a limited time to solve and overcome a variety of problem solving activities and obstacles. The aim: to build an immune system for the alien, saving it from attack by planet Earth’s pathogens. Being set in the Eden Project’s famously educational landscape, Ben Mason says: “whether you succeed or fail in the game, you will have some interaction with the alien and

be applying the wonders of science to try and save both it and, potentially, its species. “It’s been a fantastic opportunity to have worked on Eden Escape. We are delighted with the concept we came up with and really excited to be bringing it to the public.” Eden’s Programme Producer, Kate Francis, says: “It’s going to test your logic and teamwork and really get your adrenaline going, as well as being educational and lots of fun!” Whether you’re taking part with a family or simply a fan of escape rooms, Eden Escape promises to entertain. And, sponsored by the Wellcome Trust – a charity devoted to the bettering of worldwide health – Alien Rescue proves once again the Eden Project’s devotion to transformational social and environmental projects, the world over. Tickets cost between £15 and £20, giving valid day entry to Eden on the day of the game.

Time to hunker down with a good book Find a cosy corner, grab your favourite drink and discover a new adventure amongst the pages of one of these fantastic books! SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS

Arthur Ransome

Recently re-imagined in an enchanting remake, this classic tale of childhood adventure follows four young children and their summer spent sailing in the Lake District. The book is a charming tale in which the Walker siblings discover a whole new world upon the still waters of the lake and their island campsite. Within the pages you can enjoy sailing, fishing, exploration and even piracy as the story includes references to other classic books such as Treasure Island and Robinson Crusoe. This really is a must-read; a timeless classic amongst all generations.

THE GREAT CREAM ROBBERY

James Medd and Victoria Sawden

Set in Cornwall and featuring a wonderful map of the local area at the start, this charming tale is purrfect for any who love cats, Cornwall or cream tea! Featuring the antics of Merryn Malone, the ‘cleverest cat criminal in Cornwall’, the story offers a brilliant plot, superbly characterful illustrations and a group of cows that rival even Merryn’s cleverness! The book was created by Rodda’s of Cornwall, so while digging into the tale why not enjoy a scone with some of their delicious clotted cream; you’ll soon understand why Merryn went to all that trouble!

THE MERMAID OF ZENNOR

Charles Causley and Michael Coleman

The Mermaid of Zennor takes an already wellknown legend and turns it into a beautifully illustrated and wellwritten story for all to enjoy. The tale centres on the coastal village of Zennor and following a villager who captured the heart of a mysterious and beautiful stranger from the sea! When you’ve finished the book, make sure to visit Zennor as you will find, hidden inside the church, a fantastic carving of the very mermaid in the story while the coastline holds the emerald waters she lived in; it’s a truly magical day out!
