A Jazz Story Time will be presented at libraries by reading specialist Lisa Schmittle. The story times will feature the picture book “Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band” by Kwame Alexander. Schmittle will combine the story with foundational art and math concepts related to the Libraries Rock! theme. She will model teaching techniques adults may use at home with their children. Schmittle is a graduate of Shippensburg University with a Master of Education as a reading specialist and spent 12 years educating in schools. She has been designing and implementing early childhood educational programming as York County Libraries youth services manager since 2005. The story time is geared to families with children ages 4 to 12. It is free, and no registration is required. The dates, times, and locations are as follows: Wednesday, July 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Collinsville Community Library; Thursday, July 12, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Glatfelter Memorial Library; July 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at MasonDixon Public Library; July 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock; and July 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Kreutz Creek Library. Addresses and contact phone numbers are as previously mentioned. SummerQuest is a program that provides opportunities for children and teens to stay active and keep learning during the summer break. The “Libraries Rock!” theme reflects a focus on music.
