The Maryland and Pennsylvania (Ma & Pa) Railroad Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks will hold its second early American automobile event on Sunday, July 15, during the regular operating hours of 1 to 5 p.m. Expected to be on hand will be over a dozen 1915 period cars courtesy of the Susquehanna Valley Region Chapter of the Horseless Carriage Club of America (HCCA). The goal of the club is to recreate what the village may have looked like in the 1915 timeframe, using its brass era vehicles. Visitors can expect to see a wide range of cars and trucks and possibly a York Motor Car Company-built 1915 Pullman Junior. Vehicles will be staged in several groups around the village near the store and mill complex. Owners, many dressed in period clothing, will be on hand to show their cars and answer questions. Bradley Kline, a member of both the local HCCA chapter and the national organization, explained that the HCCA defines the brass (car) era as any vehicle manufactured prior to Jan. 1, 1916, noting that most manufacturers had largely phased out using brass for the various components toward the end of that period. The HCCA is a group of

In Celebration Of Tomatoes

The support group of Blue Rock Fire Rescue will host the annual Washington Boro Tomato Festival on the evenings of July 14 and 21.

Annual Festival To Take would appeal to a broader segPlace In Washington Boro ment of the population. Schock By Dayna M. Reidenouer

A tradition spanning six decades will continue when the Washington Boro Tomato Festival takes place on Saturdays, July 14 and 21. The event will be held at the Washington Boro Park, which is located at the intersection of Penn Street (Route 999) and Water Street (Route 441). On both nights, food will be available beginning at 4 p.m., and the fun will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Country band Borderline will perform on July 14, and Stu Huggens and the Black Hats will play at the festival on July 21. Event co-chair Dick Schock noted that the latter band’s repertoire contains a mix of country, oldies, and a little bit of everything else. He expressed the hope that the variety of music

continues to be on the lookout for quality bands that fit within the event’s budget. “I would love to get a bluegrass group in here,” he remarked. Affordability is important, as the Tomato Festival is the only fundraiser held by the support group of Blue Rock Fire Rescue. While the fire department is funded by Manor Township and Millersville borough, the support group occasionally assists with purchasing additional equipment, and it hosts an annual banquet for volunteers. Recently, the support group provided money for the acquisition of a new squad vehicle that transports volunteers and water rescue gear and pulls a trailer with a boat when the watercraft is needed. At the festival, the support group will profit from games and the sale of food. Games will

She did not indicate whether parents like it. The food options will include hot dogs and sauerkraut, burgers, beef barbecue, sausage sandwiches, and soft-serve ice cream. York Habitat Outlines Plan York Habitat for Humanity will begin hosting information sessions for potential new homeowners. Recently, the number of York County families looking for home applications has increased six-fold, so York Habitat has developed a new way to assist families as quickly as possible. To achieve this goal, York Habitat for Humanity will hold three information sessions each month. The sessions, which will host several families at one time, will be varied time-wise with one each in the morning, afternoon, and evening. This will help to accommodate a

South Eastern Intermediate School held its fourth Patriot Program in the spring. The purpose of the program is to expand on what is taught in the classroom by promoting knowledge and pride in American history, recognizing past and present patriots, encouraging the responsibilities of good citizenship, and fostering a deepening sense of patriotism. Requirements for students who chose to participate included singing or playing a patriotic song; understanding flag etiquette; learning about local, state, and federal government officials; researching U.S. landmarks; and sharing the meaning of patriotism. Participating students received T-shirts. Students led Patriot Assemblies for the school and visitors, at which time they shared their accomplishments.
