Getting a “Clue” CVHS to present board game turned play

he game of Clue, first introduced in the U.S. by Parker Brothers in 1949, is a classic whodunit. In 1985, Paramount made a movie based on the board game, which told the tale employing comedy along with mystery. The movie takes audience members to a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests have assembled for an unusual dinner party mostly unaware that murder and blackmail are on the menu. “I wanted a comedy, but I wanted a murder mystery,” said Vince Whitman, director of the Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) production. “I wanted a small cast show.” “Clue,” which will be presented at CVHS, 2110 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m., satisfied all Whitman’s requirements. The Nov. 9 show at 6 p.m. will be for Conestoga

Valley-area senior citizens who present special cards. Senior citizens who wish to obtain cards may call 717-397-5231. In true murder-mystery form, when the host of the dinner turns up dead, all the guests become suspects. Along with Wadsworth the butler, played by Philip Le, the guests - Miss Scarlet, played by Avery Hehnly; Professor Plum, played by Evan Zimmerman; Mrs. White, played by Lauryn Sears; Ms. Green, played by Natalie Hopta; Mrs. Peacock, played by Reagan Bradley; and Colonel Mustard, played by Steelton White - race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Other cast members are Hannah Gensel as Yvette, Meghan Smith as the cook, Micah Sauder as the motorist, Amanda Stoltzfoos as the singing telegram employee, Isaiah Baughman as Mr. Boddy, Eve Stoltzfus as the unexpected cop, Paisley Stoltzfus as the newscaster, Hopta as the auxiliary Miss Scarlet, See CVHS pg 2

Lions to host first Veterans Expo It started with the idea to hold a fundraiser for veterans, possibly a dinner. When that project did not come to fruition, Ephrata Lions Club member Kendra Rhinier still had a number of fundraising ideas in her head. One of them was to bring together veterans who are also artisans for a type of craft show. That idea grew to include nonprofit organizations that support veterans and other types of veteran-owned and associated businesses to create the first

Veterans Expo to be held in the ballroom at the American Legion Post 429, 300 Cocalico St., Ephrata, on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rhinier has lined up more than 20 displays, including some featuring veterans who are artisans. Some create items using fractal burning and wood engraving. Patrioticthemed coasters and cutting boards will also be offered for sale. In addition, Semper Pie, a veteran-owned cheesecake company, will have a table, as will Team River Runner selling coffee. Nonprofit organizations that will See Ephrata Lions Club pg 6

CVHS from pg 1 Alana Shenigo as the auxiliary Colonel Mustard, Larissa Burkholder as the chief of police, and Kiley Andrew and Paula Wilson as backup cops. Le, a sophomore who cut his acting chops as Marcellus in the CVHS spring production of “The Music Man,” said he likes the show because of the humor

and physicality. “It packs a punch,” he said, noting that heavy line memorization is involved in learning his part. According to Le, the cast members have become a tight-knit group who are all looking forward to opening night. “We are all excited for show time,” he said, noting that rehearsals are

full of “good laughs” and that the students are anxious to share the funny show with audiences. While he pointed out there will be a few political jokes, he said the production is family-friendly and will probably be enjoyed most by those in the higher elementary grades and older. “I really hope audience

members have a good time with their families,” he said. “(Although) it’s a comedy, I hope they are immersed in the story (because it) really is interesting.” Tickets for all performances are available at www.showtix4u.com by searching for “Conestoga Valley High School.”

Prior to the first Crafter’s Bazaar, which was held in 2019, the church had held a holiday bazaar for more than 50 years. Jo Miller, one of the planners of the event, said that the baskets will include a variety of themes to appeal to many interests. “ We have pets, cooking, personal care, coffee, tea, game, and hair care products donated by a local salon,” said Jo, who added that a special basket is being designed for an individual with disabilities. Merchants in the community donated items for the baskets, which will also include some gift cards. Each basket will include a tag listing the items within.

Ephrata Lions Club from pg 1

Ephrata Lions Club member Kendra Rhinier is organizing the first Veterans Expo at the American Legion.

be represented at the expo include Patriotic Stitchers for Veterans, a group that makes quilts and blankets for veterans, and Triggered 22, an entity that promotes awareness of posttraumatic stress disorder with a goal of preventing suicide. Local author Larry Alexander will be present to sign and sell copies of his military-themed books. There is no admission charge to attend the show, but monetary donations and pairs of socks to be donated to the Stockings For Soldiers programs will be welcomed. Artisans and nonprofits will donate items for prizes and giveaways, and live music will be provided by Guitars 4 Vets from 1 to 3 p.m. “It’s really a way for the community - veterans and nonveterans - to be involved, educated, enlightened, and inspired to give back to those who have

given so much for all of us,” said Rhinier of the fundraiser. “There’s a little bit for everybody.” Readers who would like more information may search for “Ephrata Lions Club” on Facebook and click on “Events.” Individuals with questions may call 717-587-6563 or email kendrar@ptd.net. The Ephrata Lions Club meets at the Ephrata American Legion building on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 6 p.m. The group welcomes new members. scan this code for more local news townlively.com

Keystone Wood Specialties has an opening for a reliable part-time Delivery Driver with a clean driving record and a focus on safety. No CDL required. Responsibilities of this position include loading our products such as cabinet doors and drawer boxes into the delivery vehicles and efficiently delivering and off-loading those products at the customer’s site according to the daily schedule. Loading and off-loading of products is done by hand, not a fork truck. Delivery routes could include both rural and city locations. This is a part-time position with no additional benefits. Individuals would be responsible for deliveries 2-3 days a week; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The position requires the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. The workday typically begins at 7:00 A.M. depending on delivery needs.
