Come To A Strawberry Social BY CATHY MOLITORIS
IV-ETown will serve up some old-fashioned fun at the second annual Strawberry Social. The event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, at Elizabethtown Borough Park, 201 S. Mount Joy St. “The Strawberry Social was LIV’s first event, a give-back to the community as a way of saying thank you for the love and support our downtown and its businesses have received in the past year and (over the) years,” explained Tony Gibble, co-owner of The Tatted Toy Guys and one of the organizers of the event. He explained that the Strawberry Social will be set up like a community picnic in the park, with games, food trucks and more. Most of the activities will be free, including a pie-eating contest, a kids’ cupcake-eating contest, a candy and toy toss, a candy buffet
Teams Invited To Basketball Tournament
“It’s going to be an exciting time to be a part of the community” picnic items such as a blanket, table, chairs, whatever you choose or just bring yourselves,” said Clint Gibble, co-owner of The Tatted Toy Guys. “A number of picnic tables will also be pre-decorated and available. Food and drink can be brought with you or bought at the various food
vendors and trucks.” He noted that the event will wrap up with the ultimate summer fun activity. “The event ends with a water gun battle to cool off after the hot summer day,” he stated. “Some water guns and sprayers will be provided, but feel free to come with your own.” Abby Huber, owner of Charlamay’s Trinkets and Treasures, noted that a special sticker celebrating the Strawberry Social will be available for the “My Town, E-Town Sticker Book,” as well as a special sticker from the Elizabethtown Police Department. The event is a way to bring people together to relax, have fun and celebrate the start of summer, said Amy McEvoy, a LIV-Etown member. “It’s going to be an exciting time to be a part of the community,” she remarked. For more information on the Strawberry Social, search for “LIV_Etown” on Facebook or Instagram.
In the parking lot of Calvary Bible Church in Mount Joy, a community space is calling. The church, located at 629 Union School Road, is home to basketball courts used regularly by local youths. Now, thanks to Bill Osborne, those courts will be the site of a three-onthree men’s basketball tournament, which will be held on Saturday, June 25, beginning at 9 a.m.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a concert by tenor Timothy Bentch and his daughter, Emma, on Sunday, June 26. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in front of the newly renovated schoolhouse across the street from Crossings Community Church, 8 S. Erisman Road, Manheim. “The primary goal of the evening is to have people in the community come together for a nice night to enjoy the music and worship together,” said pastor Rich Nolt. The concert is also a benefit for Global Disciples, a Lancaster-based organization that promotes Christian-led initiatives around the world. “It will be an opportunity for people to hear about
what’s happening with Global Disciples and have the opportunity to support them financially as well,” Nolt stated. The concert will feature spirituals, Broadway tunes, contemporary Christian music and worship songs. Timothy began his singing experience in his local Mennonite church, singing with the gospel group The Bentch Brothers. He went on to perform with opera houses and symphonic orchestras in Europe, Asia and the United States. For 10 years, he was the leading soloist with the Hungarian State Opera. He also enjoys performing pop concerts with Emma. Along with the concert, the evening will include stories from Galen Burkholder and Brother Tefera of Global Disciples. They will sign
R084652
copies of their new book, “Ordinary Disciples, Extraordinary Influence: Stories to Fuel a Life of Unshakable Faith.” Burkholder is the CEO of the organization, and Tefera is an Ethiopian-born Christian leader. Nolt explained that the idea for the concert arose after Timothy came to the church to speak about Global Disciples. “About two or three months ago, I proposed the idea of doing an open-air worship night in our schoolhouse yard,” he recalled. “I wanted to do something to bring the community together.” In October of 2021, Erisman Mennonite Church was restarted as Crossings Community Church. The concert will take place by the Lincoln School, which dates to 1884 and was recently restored by church members. In the event of rain, the concert will move inside to the church sanctuary. For more information, visit www.crossingscc.org.
