Students Honored For Doing The Right Thing BY CATHY MOLITORIS

It’s always the right time to do the right thing. That’s the message Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care (EACTC) wants to promote to students in the Elizabethtown Area School District. EACTC honored 14 students in grades one through 12 this spring for acts of

kindness, positive attitudes and willingness to help others. Do the Right Thing recipients included Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) senior Dakota Long, who made bracelets to honor her late classmate, Colby Hall, and gave the money she raised to Colby’s parents. Both Bear Creek fourth-grader Harrison Hinton and Bear Creek

third-grader Isabelle Williams were honored for turning in money they found on the playground, while Bear Creek fourth-grader Mya Romos-Rosa was recognized for helping a community member at her bus stop who needed medical assistance. Many of the recipients were recognized for assisting their classmates with classwork or helping their classmates make friends. Other Do the Right Thing recipients were Bainbridge Elementary School students Gauge Akerberg, Elizabeth Waple and Liam Brake Bailey as well as Bear Creek students Kelly Moss, Anthony Wagner-Walstrum, Rylen Clugston and Maddex Lee. Elizabethtown Area Middle School stu-

dent Elaina Smith and EAHS students Makenzi MacFeaters and Alyssa Smith were also honored. “We are so pleased to recognize these amazing students,” said Allison Bridgeman, project director of EACTC. “Each of them helps make our schools and community a better place.” Do the Right Thing recipients were acknowledged at ceremonies held recently at their respective schools, where they received a certificate of recognition, a Do the Right Thing T-shirt and a gift certificate. Do the Right Thing is a national program that seeks to recognize students in the community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude or

“Come prepared to laugh, cry and be moved all in one night of entertainment,” said Reji Woods, who will direct “A Raisin in the Sun” at Susquehanna Stage this month. The play tells the story of a few weeks in the life of the Youngers, a black family living on Chicago’s South Side in the 1950s, Woods explained. “The Younger family struggles with poverty, racism and inner conflict as they strive for a better way of life,” he stated. Woods said he was drawn to directing the show because it’s not only a classic piece of theater, but it was also the first play in which he ever performed. “I feel that many of the show’s themes of loss, love, identity and family are all very universal, and this show is as relevant now as it was when Lorraine Hansberry wrote it,” he noted. “The lessons learned are ones still in need of being taught today.” See Susquehanna Stage pg 3
