When Susquehanna Stage presents “James and the Giant Peach Jr.” on Friday, Sept. 16 to Sunday, Sept. 18, audiences can expect to see a lot of creativity on stage, from the costumes to the characters, said Tori Elliott, who portrays Aunt Spiker in the show. “It’s very funny and it’s very weird, but most of all, it’s a lot of fun,” she stated. “It’s a show that’s full of energy.”

On Friday, Sept. 16, a plaque will presented prior to the Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) football game in memory of Mike Ebersole. Mike graduated from EAHS in 1974 and was known as the enthusiastic public address announcer for EAHS football games.

Money donated to the Elizabeth-

town Area Education Foundation in memory of Ebersole helped facilitate the process of upgrading the sound system at the stadium. The plaque honoring Ebersole will be placed on the press box.

The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the high school field, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown.

The move will not dampen the event’s spirit or its focus on history, Snow said. “Even though we are separated from the furnace ruins, Rivertownes will provide a display of the furnace area along with historic photos from old Marietta,” he stated. “The Vesta building and the ruins will be open for tours throughout the day, and visitors are encouraged to visit the ruins.”

When you attend the Pig Iron Fest & Car Show, not only will you enjoy a day of family fun, but you’ll also be giving a nod to the region’s history.“Many may not know, but ‘pig iron’ refers to the cast-iron ingots produced by the Marietta iron furnaces in the 19th century,” explained Marcus Snow, president of the Donegal Area Rotary Club, which is hosting the event. “Molten iron was poured into ingot molds, which branched off of a central vein of iron. Speaker Samuel Slaymaker will share about Edward Hand. Hand was born on Dec. 31, 1744, in Clyduff, King’s County (now County Offaly), Ireland. Following medical training at Trinity College in Dublin, he enlisted as a surgeon’s mate with the 18th Royal Irish Regiment of Foot and was sent to Fort Pitt in Pennsylvania. He held the roles of soldier, doctor, farmer, and politician, in addition to being an immigrant, a husband, and a father. His journey eventually led him to Lancaster County.

Ruhl’s Church will hold a free Carnival Night for families.

Reservations are recommended for the Carnival Night to ensure there are enough supplies for everyone, but they are not required. To make a reservation, call the church at 717665-3400 and leave a message with your last name and the number of people who will be attending. “People can reserve up until the day before the event,” Gray said, “but if they decide on the day of the event that they want to come, that’s OK, too. We want everyone to come.”

Faith lessons that will be shared at each station will correspond to the station’s theme. For example, Gray said, church members running the fishing station may discuss how Jesus taught the disciples to be fishers of men.
