I am even beginning to see the third generation joining the race now,” Gregory stated. “We also saw many new runners this year.” Chip timing for the day was provided by Second Wind Race Timing. “We chipped both the 5K race¬†and the 1-mile children’s fun run again this year,” said Gregory. “Our turkey mascot was here again, and the kids enjoyed taking photos with him. Santa Claus also made an appearance this year decked out in his red coat
and running shorts.” Gregory noted that more than 20 local businesses and individuals sponsored or donated to the race, and 45 volunteers worked at the event. The top overall male winner was Noah Taylor, 20, of Mohnton with a time of 17 minutes, 37 seconds. The top overall female winner was Aubrey Ressler, 15, of New Holland with a time of 20:53. “This was (Taylor’s) third year in a row to take the top spot, his fourth time (in) total. This was (Ressler’s) second year in a row to take the top spot for females,” Gregory said. Gregory reported that there were 493 finishers in the 5K race and 111

Participants in the Turkey Bowl held on Thanksgiving morning at Tel Hai Camp and Retreat have run through stormy weather, rain, fog and even snow flurries, but this year’s weather on Nov. 23 was ideal. “We had a beautiful morning for our 32nd annual Turkey Bowl race. The weather was beautiful this year, probably the best I’ve ever seen, which helped to encourage more runners to sign up,” said Bruce Gregory, camp director. “We had (more than 600) participants this year - up quite a bit from last year’s 480.” He noted that those who attended the event, which

their services. While the holiday season is a time of celebration for many, the cold weather and additional expenses that accompany this time of year can prove challenging for others. To combat this seasonal challenge, Water Street Mission launched its annual food drive on Nov. 1, and the organization is once again calling on Lancaster County residents to band together in support of their neighbors. “We already started to see an increase in demand for our programs in September, and we’re expecting another influx as the months get colder,” said Matt Clement, director of marketing for Water Street Mission. “We didn’t quite meet our goal last year, but we’re thankful that we got close. It really helped us make it through the winter.” The goal of this year’s drive is 110,000 pounds of food. Until Friday, Dec. 22, donations of nonperishable food items may be dropped off directly at Water Street Mission’s facility, which is located at 210 S. Prince St., Lancaster. Donors can bring items to the building’s loading dock during its regular hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Donations may also be taken to any of the 30 drop-off locations that have been established through partnerships with businesses and organizations across the county. To view the list of requested items and drop-off locations or to host a drop-off location, visit https://tinyurl.com/ wsmdrive2023. In addition to helping Water Street Mission to See Neighbors pg 6

This year, the self-guided tours will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; and Friday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. During each tour, guests are invited to explore the halls of Rock Ford’s historic mansion, which belonged to Revolutionary War general Edward Hand. The home will be transformed into a historically accurate re-creation of how it likely appeared when Hand dwelled there. Volunteers who are dressed in period-accurate clothing will be located throughout the rooms to answer guests’ questions, and meals that were popular in Colonial times will be prepared in the kitchen. In the hallways, performers
