Hummelstown resident Leah Layman recently joined Hershey Real Estate Group, located at 226 W. Chocolate Ave., Hershey.
Layman has a love of houses, history and art. She enjoys painting birdhouses as a hobby and presents them as a welcome gift to new buyers. Her hobby complements her real estate business as she hand paints birdhouses to replicate buyers’ new homes. This practice has led her to be a vendor at the Market-onChocolate, the Garden Faire, Fort Hunter Day and various other outdoor markets in the spring and summer.
She also decorates the tree on West Main Street, most recently with heartshaped Valentine’s Day decorations and miniature birdhouses. The project lasts all year, and the tree will change for St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.

The Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) released the 2023 edition of the “Pennsylvania Campground Directory” in January. This free, fourcolor glossy magazine lists 215 campgrounds and RV resorts in Pennsylvania. In addition to RV and tent sites, over half the Pennsylvania campgrounds also have cabin, cottage, or trailer rentals.
The annual PCOA Directory divides the state into eight geographic regions with maps, color-coding, and detailed facility listings for PCOA member campgrounds within each region. Each member of the association is listed, with the name, mailing address, phone numbers, website address, access directions, and number of sites, as well as a listing of facilities
available. Eight detailed maps are included.
The directory can be found at campgrounds, RV dealerships, chambers of commerce, visitors’ bureaus, and Pennsylvania information centers. A large number are distributed at 35 RV shows across the northeastern United States. RV and camping enthusiasts can order the 68-page booklet directly by visiting www.pacamping.com or call the association office at 610-767-5026.
PCOA is an association of private campground owners dedicated to the advancement of family camping. The group is an affiliate of the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, which represents 3,000 commercial parks throughout the United States.

Open Stage, 25 N. Court St., Harrisburg, will provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for several performances this winter and spring through a grantfunded accessibility program.
Open Stage’s accessibility program enables the theater to add ASL interpreters to select performances of its shows. The goal of the program is to make the theater’s productions and programs available for anyone who wants to experience them. Open Stage’s first ASL-interpreted performances occurred in 2022 for its production of “Treasure Island” and holiday performances “A Christmas Carol” and “Who’s Holiday.”
ASL interpretation will be provided at five shows, all of which will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“Into the Woods” will be presented on Thursday, March 2, on the Capital Blue Cross Main Stage. “Into the Woods” is a story about family, redemption, growth, loss and what happens after “happily ever after.”
“Tiny Beautiful Things” will be performed in the Studio Theater on Friday, April 28, Based on the book by Cheryl Strayed, “Tiny Beautiful Things” follows the relationships between an anonymous advice columnist named Sugar and the many real-life readers who pour out their hearts to her.
“Poirot Investigates!” is
planned for Thursday, June 1, on the Capital Blue Cross Main Stage. In this farcical adaptation, Agatha Christie’s famous sleuth Hercule Poirot brings all of his wits to bear to solve the mystery of the Western Star, a rare gem with dark and dangerous origins, and to protect its unsuspecting movie-star owner along the way.
Individuals who would like to attend the ASL-interpretated performances, and who need the ASL service, are asked to contact Open Stage’s box office at boxoffice@ openstagehbg.com for the best seating.

Penn State Extension will offer a live webinar titled “Finding Solutions to TreeSidewalk Conflicts” on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The webinar will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Removing large, healthy trees when sidewalks are lifted is not always the solution that provides the community with the most benefits. Tree and stump removals are expensive, as is sidewalk repair. During the webinar, participants will learn techniques to safely repair and retrofit
sidewalks without removing trees, which provide communities with shade, stormwater reduction, energy conservation, and other benefits.
The webinar is designed for public tree, landscape, and environmental board members; municipal managers, foresters, and arborists; and others interested in urban and community forestry. Participants will see the impacts that many sidewalk repair measures have on trees, learn to weigh the benefits and costs that trees bring to hard-
scapes, and find ways to resolve tree/hardscape conflicts with materials and space management.
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. There is no fee for general attendance. There is a cost for a certificate of attendance and for Society of American Foresters CFE credits.
For details and registration, visit www.extension.psu.edu and search for “Finding Solutions to Tree-Sidewalk Conflicts.” Registrants will also receive access to the webinar recording.

Many people have great demands on their time, so it is a good idea to develop strategies for managing time effectively. It can be especially important for students to improve their time management skills early in their academic careers. They may consider using the following strategies.
It is important to establish a daily schedule. Staying the course may require guidelines detailing how one will spend his or her time. A large portion of the day may be taken up by classes and assignments, but students should
also plan the other parts of the day. Specific times should be blocked off for exercise, meals, school, study, and any other responsibilities. Students may consider using time blocking, a technique in which one organizes his or her activities by the hour or another set amount of time.
Another strategy is to figure out where time is being lost. People need to know how they are currently spending their time before they can improve their time management skills. Making a time log over the course of a few days
may help to determine if a person is working efficiently.
Time for breaks should be included in order to avoid burnout. Breaks allow students to socialize, rest or engage in other activities unrelated to school. According to sleep researcher
Nathaniel Kleitman, people’s minds naturally crave breaks after 90 minutes of intense work. Each individual may need breaks at different intervals. People should learn to read their body’s cues.
Many students avoid projects that seem like huge tasks. Breaking down a larger job into smaller ones can help students stay focused and measure their progress. For example, if a student needs to
write a 50-page research paper, he or she might first find and read source material, then select facts and quotes to incorporate into the paper, and then resolve to write a set number of pages per day.
Scheduling classes wisely is another strategy. Some people are night owls while others thrive in the morning, so students should try to schedule their classes at a time when are usually very productive. This strategy may not be possible for high school students, but college students may have more flexibility in scheduling.
Time management is an important skill for students to develop. It can help in the classroom and later when entering the workforce.
