Church Sets Fish Fry, Chocolate Egg Sale even Sorrows Catholic Church in Middletown has announced its fish fry and its chocolate egg sale. The chocolate eggs will be sold through Easter Sunday, April 17, or as long as supplies last. Customers may purchase peanut butter, coconut, or butter cream eggs coated in either milk chocolate or dark chocolate. The hand-dipped eggs will be sold for a fee per egg. The 2.8-ounce eggs have received regional recognition through various media outlets. In 2019, nearly 81,000 eggs were sold through businesses, through direct orders, and at Seven Sorrows Parish. Roughly 6,000 pounds of peanut butter, 870 pounds of butter/margarine, and 4,320 pounds of chocolate were used. This year, 100 volunteers will prepare and distribute the eggs. Orders may be placed by visiting http://bit.ly/7SorrowsEggs. All eggs will be sold on a first-come, firstserved basis while quantities last.

year Barry attended second grade in a one-room school on the hill behind Doc’s Rolling Rink. Five years ago, Barry and George noticed they were both attending sporting events regularly, so they struck a deal. George became the driver and Barry took on the role of navigator. Later, when they started running into Dave at basketball games, the duo became a trio. Through their Gold Card Senior Passes, the trio is able to fill its social calendar during the school year. One or more of the group’s members can be found in the front row at almost every athletic event in the sports of football, basketball, softball, volleyball, base-

ball, track and field, and tennis. They can be found at Middletown Area Middle School at every junior high girls’ and boys’ event and at Middletown Area High School for every junior varsity and varsity girls’ and boys’ game. “If there’s a game scheduled, we’re there,” said Barry. He and George even travel to away games. And if that isn’t enough, “When it doesn’t interfere with a game here,” Barry stated, “George and I go see Katie Fitzpatrick (Class of 2020) play (basketball) at Lebanon Valley College. We’ve been to five of her games this year.” Their perfect attendance does not go unnoticed. The athletes know the faithful trio
well, and prior to a game, players greet Barry, George and Dave with hugs and highfives. During games, the trio offers coaching tips or shouts of encouragement. The support even extended beyond the walls of the gymnasium when Barry and George treated the varsity girls’ basketball team to pizza after one of its practices. To spot them at a game, simply look for the colorful Converse sneakers. Barry owns 27 pairs of Converse kicks in a variety of colors. Sometimes, he can be seen in a mismatched pair of blue and gold sneakers, and he’ll tell fellow attendees, “I have a matching pair at home.”

Dave Husser believes in helping others. “I have a motto: Life’s about giving, not getting,” said the president of Manheim Lions Club. He supports the Lions Club’s mission of serving the community, and he invites the public to help give back by participating in a golf tournament to benefit both the Manheim and Palmyra Area Lions clubs. The event will be held on Saturday, June 4, at Iron Valley Golf Club, 201 Iron Valley Drive, Lebanon. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The entry fee will include green fees, the use of a cart, prizes, a pig roast lunch and drinks. Husser got the idea to organize the event as a joint project of the two clubs after having a conversation with Traci Petrino, president of the Palmyra Lions. “We realized that both of our clubs were small, so we thought, ‘Let’s get together and do something,’” he recalled. A golf tournament seemed like a natural fit, since Husser works at Iron Valley Golf Club. Proceeds from the event
will benefit local projects in both Manheim and Palmyra as well as Beacon Lodge, located in Mount Union. The lodge provides all-expenses-paid camps for special needs children and adults and their families. “All money we raise as Lions goes back into the community,” Husser noted. “One hundred percent of it goes back, and each club can decide what the needs are in their community.” In Manheim, the Lions support a Cub Scout troop and a baseball team, collect eyeglasses and provide funding for other projects as needed. “We want to help our community in any way that we can,” Husser stated. Prizes will be awarded at the golf tournament for the top four teams, along with closest to the pin, men’s longest drive, women’s longest drive, longest putt and more. Giveaways and gift baskets will also be featured. A discount will be offered per person for each group of four if registration is received by Thursday, March 31. Sponsorship opportunities are available for a variety of levels as well. “The golf tournament will

be a fun event for a good cause,” Husser said. “And it’s a great way to learn more about the Lions. We’re always looking for new members. The Lions are a fun-filled group of people to be involved with, and it’s a great way to get to
know your community and to give back to your community.” For more information on the golf tournament or to register, contact Husser at 717-9409629 or davehusser@gmail.com or Petrino at 717-838-1920 or italiangal75@gmail.com.
Virtual Fundraiser from pg 1 “Corks and Composers,” paired wine and cheese and featured music from around the world. “The Hershey Symphony Orchestra traditionally has done a springtime fundraising event, which for 25-plus years was an in-person gala,” explained Cort. “During the pandemic, we decided to host a wine and cheese virtual event because it wasn’t safe for everyone to be gathering. Many people missed being together and enjoying the music. No one had been traveling, so we wanted to do a virtual trip.”

“We had gone so long without seeing each other and hearing music, so there was real need to come together,” Cort added. “That virtual event was a way for us to do that. This year, we wanted to build on that (success).” During the program on March 20, attendees will not only be educated about how chocolate is paired with wine, but they will learn about the different countries of the world. “The wine will be matched with music from a (particular) country,” said Cort. “(For) an Italian opera, the wine will be from Italy.”
She noted that people may enjoy the virtual event on their own or invite a few friends to enjoy a viewing party. “Everyone can bring their wine and chocolate boxes with them. It could be a fun thing to do at home,” Cort added. For more information about the fundraiser and to purchase tickets, visit https://hersheysymphony.org /portfolio/guilty-pleasures.
