Vision Resources Starts Campaign for Franklin County. Now that the organization covered four counties, the name Tri-County did not fit. Also, following a name-change study by Leadership Harrisburg, it was identified that about half of all people who were referred by their doctors to the agency for eye examinations would not make the visit because of the word “blind” in the name. Hence, the board of directors and management team elected to change the name to Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania, dropping the word “blind” and more clearly describing the organization and its mission. Now the agency faces new challenges, and it is working to prepare itself for its next century of service. Over the next two years, Vision Resources aims to bring more public awareness to the expanded numbers of eyerelated diseases, the agency’s
programs and prevention services, and businesses the organization operates to generate income and offer employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Increased numbers of clients will require increases in financial support to meet the future demands. In response, Vision Resources has created the 2020 Vision Endowment Fund to establish a perpetually reliable and predictable source of income to the organization as it moves forward. The endowment will also serve as a means for donors to make a legacy gift to VROCP and sustain all that the organization provides for years to come. To learn more about Vision Resources, its 100th anniversary celebration, and the 2020 Vision Endowment Fund, readers may contact Paul Zavinsky at 717-238-2531 or pzavinsky@ vrocp.org.

In March, Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania (VROCP) was slated to start a two-year campaign to bring awareness to the services the agency provides the blind and visually impaired and attention to the increasing numbers of eye-related diseases. Vision Resources will celebrate its 100th anniversary in March 2021, and the agency wants everyone to join the organization in a successful launch of the next century of service to the region. Vision Resources began its history as a community benefit organization in Harrisburg in March 1921. Over the years the nonprofit grew and expanded its responsibilities to include Cumberland and Perry counties. The organization adopted the name Tri-County Association for the Blind at that time, which it used until the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind (PAB) asked if the agency would also take on responsibilities

AACA Purchases New Property On March 19, the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), based in Hershey, closed a real estate sale for its new headquarters and home for America’s Automotive Library. This culminates years of searching for a new home to house the club’s offices, antique car collection, and, most importantly, its library, which now houses more
than 2,000,000 items and has run out of space. The new facility covers over six acres, has 35,000 square feet, and is located next to the Hersheypark property. AACA will soon announce a major expansion of its library. The building will not only house the staff and the collections, but it will also be open to the public,

Each year, the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) grants several scholarships to students from across the country. The winners are announced and presented with their scholarships during the AACA Annual Convention in Philadelphia in February. This year, AACA awarded five scholarships totaling $7,500. Since the program’s inception in 1994, AACA has given away $145,250. The Louise Bianchi Chiotti Memorial Scholarship was given to Francis Abate. Team Meghan will hold the Cancer Warriors Photo Shoot on Saturday, May 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Gifford Pinchot State Park, located on Rosstown Road near Lewisberry. Individuals currently battling cancer, as well as cancer survivors, are invited to visit the park to have their pictures taken professionally. The event is an opportunity for those struggling with the impact of cancer to feel good about themselves and enjoy a spring day on the 2,000-plus acres of Gifford Pinchot State Park. This event is free and includes professional pictures, professional makeup application, and catering. Preregistration is requested and can be done at www.team meghan.org. Additional event details are also available on this website. Those who would like more information or representatives of businesses that would like to
be part of the event may contact Scott A. Johnson, president of the Meghan M. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund, at 717381-5645. The Meghan M. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Elizabethtown. It was created in the spring of 2018 with the mission to provide scholarships to high school seniors who intend to pursue higher education in the arts. The fund is named for Meghan Marie Johnson, a 2017 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School who died at the age of 18 on Nov. 21, 2017, after a two-year battle with Stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. Meghan had been active in her high school drama club and theater program, as well as several community theaters. The organization launched www.imdoinit.org in the fall of 2018, and through a fundraising
partnership with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, the website raises money for glioblastoma brain cancer research and awareness. All donations received by www.imdoinit.org go directly to the University of Pittsburgh. A new program, Camp Meghan, will launch at Lower Dauphin Middle School in Hummelstown in August. The oneday camp for eighth-grade boys and girls will feature a professional curriculum-based program that will focus on anxiety and depression in teenagers. The program will be provided in partnership with Lower Dauphin Communities That Care. Team Meghan is the fundraising division for the Meghan M. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund, imdoinit.org, and Camp Meghan. The Team Meghan 3K Walk/Run in Hershey, a community yard sale, and the Cancer
Team Meghan, founded in memory of Meghan M. Johnson (pictured), will hold a Cancer Warriors Photo Shoot on Saturday, May 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Gifford Pinchot State Park near Lewisberry. Warriors Photo Shoot are a few of Team Meghan’s events. Team Meghan is active on social media.
