Church to host VBS camp
First Church of God, 245 W. High St., Middletown, will present a vacation Bible school (VBS) day camp on Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. VBS camp will include Bible lessons, crafts, games, snacks, lunch and afternoon activities.
Middletown
This year’s theme is “The Battle Belongs to the Lord.” Attendees will learn how God was faithful to His people through different battles. Some examples are Joshua and the battle of Jericho, David and Goliath and Gideon from Judges chapter 7, as well as Christ, who overcame death through His resurrection. Children will also learn how they can equip themselves to live in the world by using the “Armor of God” - truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the spirit of God and prayer.
A carnival will be held on July 10, featuring carnival games and activities. Water Day will take place on Tuesday, July 11. There will be a water slide available, and youngsters will enjoy tie-dyeing, games and ice cream sundaes.
A field trip to Conoy Park East in Bainbridge is planned for Wednesday, July 12. There will be a picnic lunch, an opportunity for youngsters to visit the playground and nature activities.
On July 13, VBS camp will include time for swimming at the Middletown Swim Club, 1100 N. Union St., Middletown. Parents will be asked to drop off their children at the pool, and the group will then walk back to the church.

Geyers UMC plans “Monumental” VBS
Geyers United Methodist Church (UMC), 1605 S. Geyers Church Road, Middletown, will host “Monumental - Celebrating God’s Greatness” vacation Bible school (VBS) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday, July 16 through 20. Children 3 years old through teenagers are invited to participate.
Children age 3 through first grade will have a designated area, where they will enjoy stories, songs, games, crafts, and more. Second-graders through teens will travel in small crews and take part in science activities, outdoor games, Bible stories
and songs, activities in the kitchen, and tie-dying. Each evening will end with refreshments. Hands-on, messy activities are planned, so children should wear appropriate play clothes and sturdy shoes.
Preregistration is not required, but parents must fill out a registration form on the first night that their child attends. Parents should also accompany their children into and out of the building each evening to sign the children in and out.

Support group will meet
The Penn State Cancer Institute’s bladder cancer support group will hold a meeting on Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. The meeting will take place in the Tree House Cafe at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, 500 University Drive, Hershey. Attendees should use the main entrance.

Fair to include contests
The Elizabethtown Fair will run from Monday, Aug. 21, to Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, High Street, Elizabethtown. The fair will feature a variety of contests, including a Baby Photo Contest and a Pet Photo Contest. This year, a new event has been added - the Rebar Metalwork Contest.
The Baby Photo Contest, featuring photos of children age 2 or younger, has an entry deadline of noon on Saturday, Aug. 19. Photos may be dropped at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or arrangements can be made by contacting Joyce Hardman at 717-367-0119. Photos will also be accepted in the Fair Office from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 19.
Any 5-by-7-inch or 8-by-10-inch photographs are acceptable for entry; however, organizers recommend that vertical 8-by-10-inch photographs be submitted for display purposes. Photocopies will be accepted. Parents’ names, the child’s name, and the family’s address and phone number must be on the back of the photo.
Photos will be displayed throughout fair week. It is recommended that
photos be picked up Aug. 26 in the Fair Office following the announcement of winners at approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 26. Any photos not picked up at this time will be available for pickup at the GEARS Community Center. All photos must be claimed by Friday, Sept. 8. For voting purposes during Fair Week, one cent equals one vote. The top three winners will receive cash prizes. Proceeds from the contest will benefit the GEARS Community Center and the Elizabethtown Fair. For more information, call Hardman at the previously mentioned number.
The 27th annual Pet Photo Contest is open to all pets. To submit photos, email Gail Peters at silverdl9@aol.com or deliver the photos to the Fair Office on Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. The deadline for entry is Aug. 19.
Photos must be 5 by 7 inches or 8 by 10 inches. To ensure good visibility, vertical 8-by-10-inch photographs are recommended. Photos must fit in an 8-by-10-inch space. If more than one photo of the same pet is submitted, both photos must fit in the 8-by-10inch space. Photos may be cut to fit and stapled or taped to the display.

VBS
The annual VBS talent show will be held on July 14. All children are welcome to participate. A closing program will be held for parents at 2:30 p.m. Children will sing songs and recap what they learned during VBS. An ice cream social will follow the program.
