Santa Caravan Is Coming Through Town! BY DAYNA M. REIDENOUER
ove over Cookies With Santa and make way for the Santa Caravan! Instead of inviting community members to visit the firehouse to spend time with the jolly old elf, Mountville Fire Company will reverse the process. “We had looked into doing (the cookie event) other ways, but the best thing we could think of was to bring Santa to the folks,” said fire company public information officer Peter Taraborelli. On Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., caravans of fire trucks and vehicles driven by fire company and Mountville Lions Club members will drive to various locations within the Mountville area. The groups will park at each site for about 25 minutes. “We tried to include a mix of spots that had a lot of parking and others in the heart of a
M
neighborhood,” Taraborelli said. Santa Claus will ride on a fire truck and talk with guests from his perch, but as the event has been planned to abide by CDC social distancing guidelines, he will not be available to pose for pictures or interact closely with anyone. Lions will share prepackaged treats with those who visit the stops, and fire company members will accept children’s letters to Santa. “Santa will take the letters back to the North Pole and read them there,” Taraborelli explained. The schedule of stops, a map, and a coloring page for letter writers may be downloaded at www.mountvillefire.com/santa. Taraborelli noted that two caravans will operate simultaneously on Dec. 12, with one taking the Red Route and the other taking the Green Route. There is no cost to visit with the Santa Caravan; however, the Mountville Fire Company is funded entirely by grants and donations, so contributions are always welcome.

“My heart is going out to all the people who are addicted and really struggling during the pandemic. There’s such a need for places like the Potter’s House of Ruth, especially for women. There are more recovery houses for men than for women,” Vicki commented. “The thing I love about the Potter’s House of Ruth is that it’s a longterm program. They need something long-term to stabilize.” The four-phase residential program can last for a year, during which women recover from their addictions, receive counseling, become involved with church communities, and develop life and employment skills. There is a monthly cost to participate, but no one is excluded due to financial need. Sales of art and crafts made by program residents helps to offset participation costs. For more information about Potter’s House of
Ruth, readers may visit https://the pottershouselancaster.com. Vicki estimated that the concert will last about an hour. The Young Testament Band will perform a variety of Christmas, worship, and praise music, including several songs by the late Keith Green. The Young Testament Band has been together for two years, and its members range in age from 12 to 15. Riley Hornberger plays bass and Vicki’s granddaughters, Hosanna and Sophia Schoonover, perform the vocals. Vicki’s husband, Albie, who has been mentoring the group, will provide support on guitar during the concert. The band has lost several members as a result of the shutdown and is looking for a guitarist and a drummer. Youths interested in joining the band, as well as anyone with questions about the concert, may email Vicki at evergreenwords@yahoo.com.

Are you having trouble sleeping in 2020? If so, please... Take This Reader’s Quiz: 1. Do you snore at night, or sleep with someone who does? 2. Do you wake up with pain in your back or neck? 3. Do you share a bed with someone who wants a firmer or softer mattress than you? 4. Do you wish you could wake up more refreshed and full of energy? If you answered “Yes” twice or more, this story is for you.
Introducing “Less Snore, More Cuddle™” Sleep Systems
Did you know that astronauts don’t snore in space? Snoring is made worse by gravity’s effect on the throat, which narrows the airway. For this reason, snoring can be cured by sleeping in zero gravity -- or on an adjustable Cuddle Zone sleep system to elevate you head.
Stop Compromising Your Sleep
Back and Neck Pain, Gone Sleeping without pain requires body support and spinal alignment. Unlike “firm or soft” mattresses, Cuddle Zone systems support the spine and neck with 2 to 4 comfort layers.

Why visit a local store when you can shop online? Because we don’t sell budget beds. We offer sleep systems, combining mattress, adjustable base and pillow. Each fitted to your needs. You can even experience any sleep system in our Dream Room. No website does that.
And those “unbiased” mattress review websites? They’re often owned by huge, private equity firms. But we’re not a faceless company. We’re locally owned in Lancaster. When you shop here, you support the community.
Now Explore Your Options At Gardner’s Mattress & More, we’ve curated over 24 Cuddle Zone sleep systems for you to see in person, 7 days a week. Private appointments are available. People enjoy our shopping experience, in part because there’s no sales pressure ever. And we have over 200 verified stories of customer delight for your review. Christmas”; “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”; “Arabian” from “The Nutcracker”; “Hip Hop Holidays”; and “Jingle Bell Rock.” In addition, the film will feature a video from Make-A-Wish about a Wish Child in Philadelphia who received his wish, and there will be clips of local Wish Family members who spoke at past presentations. Lisa has also promised a number of surprises throughout the event. “The emphasis is on following guidelines and being safe,” said Lisa. “It may look a little different this year, but the love behind it is the same. It’s going to be amazing.” Past shows have raised more than $30,000, but this year, Lisa will be happy if the event raises enough to grant one child’s wish. “I told the (dance students) they should feel so good about any amount that comes in,” said Lisa. To help reach that goal, an online fundraising page can be found by searching Facebook for “CoJoMotion Dance Company” or “Lititz Academy of Dance.” Readers who wish to attend this year’s “A Season for Wishes” may visit www.penncinema.com and click on “Special Events” at the bottom of the page or purchase tickets at www.fandango.com or at the theater.

Representatives of the cinema said they were interested and were prepared to follow all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for social distancing. “They have all those measures in place,” said Lisa. Lisa quickly mustered 27 dancers to record the show in a large studio at Aurora Films at Rock Lititz. As a result, the 16th annual “A Season for Wishes” presentation will be a pre-recorded film shown at Penn Cinema on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 9:45 a.m. While social distancing guidelines made it impossible to rehearse or perform certain dance numbers, Lisa adjusted choreography for some dances. Styles for the 15 numbers will range from tap, jazz, and ballet to modern and hip-hop. Many of the Rockette-style kicklines were not possible, but Lisa noted that on one number she spaced the dancers apart with their hands on their hips so they could still do the kicks. Familiar dance numbers that will be featured this year include “Santa Baby”; “Do You Hear What I Hear?”; “The Little Drummer Boy”; “Hot Chocolate”; “Where Are You, Christmas?”; “We Need a Little
