American Home Life International (AHLI) is seeking Christian families willing to host students from China or Spain in July. Chinese youths are ages 11 to 13 and will visit the local area for four to five days. Spanish students are ages 13 to 16 and will visit for one month. Host families will have opportunities to develop cross-cultural friendships, share the love of Jesus, and learn a little Mandarin or Spanish. They will receive a daily stipend for expenses, so there is no need to raise support. Families also do not need to prepare foods outside their usual diets. Families are responsible for providing a safe and secure Christian environment, three meals per day, and transportation to local facilities as needed. They must fill out an AHLI application, which includes a background check and a child safety video. To sign up as hosts by Monday, April 15, families may contact Linda Fisher, short-term director for AHLI, at lindaf@amhomelife.org. Pictured on front:

David and Karin Holder, hosts of “Raised Hunting,” which has been broadcast on the Discovery and Outdoor channels, will be the speakers at the Hunting With Purpose Outdoor Expo. “The Holders have a family that they have ‘raised’ hunting,” explained Brandon Fisher, lead pastor with Keystone Church, which is sponsoring the event. “Their faith in Jesus Christ has been an important cornerstone to their family and their view of the outdoors.” The Holders will be one facet of the church’s first Outdoor Expo, scheduled to be held at the Keystone Church Worship Center, 20 Harristown Road, Paradise, on Friday, March 22. Doors to the expo will open at 6 p.m. The Holders are slated to speak at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments, as well as barbecue, will be served, and a variety of door prizes associated with hunting and other outdoor activities will be given away. The Holders, who hail from Winterset, Iowa, have two sons.

David and Karin state that they are Christian outdoorsmen who use hunting as a platform to teach their family ethics and values. Their goal is to spread their love for Jesus to their community through their love of the outdoors. Up to 10 area vendors and manufacturers of outdoor equipment will be featured at the expo. They will include those selling archery equipment suitable for hunting, deer feed suppliers, taxidermists, fishing and waterfowl guides, and those selling other outdoor gear and supplies. According to Fisher, the expo is the brainchild of church members Harold Bare and Wil Esbenshade. “(Bare and Esbenshade) have a desire to see the Gospel shared with everyone in our community,” explained Fisher, who added that the pair discussed areas where that they felt there was common ground between the church and the community. “The outdoors is one of those places,” said Fisher. “They personally have a love of the outdoors and a

Funds raised by the event support scholarships for girls who need financial assistance to participate in the GOTR program. More than 6,000 girls have received this assistance from the Lancaster-Lebanon program. The atmosphere prior to a GOTR 5K is always unique because it includes

Girls On The Run from pg 7 lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. In addition, those teams completed 972 community impact projects. Currently, there is a team in every school district in Lancaster and Lebanon, and more than 90 teams will take part in the current session. But for Johnson, the impact goes beyond mere numbers. As the local organization celebrates its milestone anniversary, the staff is focused on a growth mindset that is about forging stronger bonds, not only with the girls who take part in the program, but also with their families, coaches, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and anyone involved with GOTR. “We want to deepen those relationships so that (all participants) are asking, ‘How can I be more involved? How can I be part of this mission?’” explained Johnson. GOTR of Lancaster-Lebanon has already reaped fruit from employing this mindset. In early 2019, the council was informed that the group had been chosen from more than 200 other GOTR locations as the recipient of the GOTR PaceSetters Award. The award was given in the Game-Changing Relationships category based on a number of examples of ways GOTR of Lancaster-Lebanon has built partnerships with community members and organizations. Among these are a two-year program involving nine Elizabethtown College students who have completed a service project with the program, and the production of the GOTR documentary “Run With Your Heart,” which was created in 2018. The program also worked with a local author on a book that is used to supplement the organization’s curriculum and has partnered with Penn Medicine/LG Health to showcase the GOTR participants in various presentations. The curriculum and training session culminates in the GOTR spring 5K, when the participants complete a local course with a buddy. This year’s run will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Sponaugle-Williamson Field, Franklin & Marshall College, 415 Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster. “We encourage the community to join us,” said Johnson of the run, which is open to the public and offers a fairly flat course in Lancaster city. The run will start on College Avenue and turn left on West James Street and then right on North Water Street. Runners will then turn right on West Lemon Street, which becomes Buchanan Avenue. Participants will proceed right onto State Street and go right again on West James Street. The course will turn left on Race Avenue before taking a left on West Clay Street. Runners will then turn left on State Street and left again on West Frederick

men of distinct ages and sizes will participate in the show. Tyson praised one woman in her 80s for her ongoing support of New Hope and her flair as a model. “She’s a real showstopper,” Tyson commented. Tickets are required for admission to the fashion show, and they must be purchased by Monday, April 1. Folks may call New Hope at 717-786-2802 to order tickets. Uniacke noted that while he plans to attend the fashion show, he will be there as a New Hope supporter, not as an employee. Beginning April 1, Uniacke will be working as a bereavement counselor with Hospice & Community Care in York County. He has led New Hope for seven-and-a-half years. The board of directors is accepting applications for Uniacke’s successor. For more information about New Hope and the Community Closet, readers may visit www.newhopeministry.info.

One young lady has already claimed one for her own wedding, but it will still appear in the fashion show. Practically everything that will be worn in the show has been donated to the thrift store. Tyson would like to borrow one very specific item, however. “I’m looking for a pair of indigo blue cowboy boots around a size 8,” she said. “We have a bit of a cowgirl flavor (for at least one outfit).” Close to 15 models appeared in the show last year, and Tyson anticipates approximately that many this year. New Hope counselor and board member Elaine Campbell will reprise her role on the runway. Other women and
