Cruisers To Hold Annual Car Show BY MARCELLA PEYRE-FERRY
ancaster County Cruisers will hold its 22nd annual car show on Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at the Willow Street Fire Company grounds, 2901 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are all welcome, including those that are not running. “We get a combination of just about everything,” club member Jack Parke said, noting that some entrants use trailers to bring vehicles that are in the midst of the restoration process. “I encourage (vehicle owners) to bring them. This shows people what can be done.” He noted that the show offers old cars, which hold a fascination for some who remember a family car from their childhood or who own one themselves, as well as newer show cars with the latest extras and fine detailing. In a typical year, more than 250 cars are on display, and the show goes rain or shine. “We take our chances,” Parke said. Vehicle owners will be asked to pay a registration cost per vehicle. Dash plaques will go to the first 150 registrants. Numerous trophies, door prizes and cash prizes will be presented
L
throughout the day. Cars owned by members of the Lancaster County Cruisers are not eligible for trophies or prizes. Trophies are donated by local businesses and sponsors, who personally select the winners. While the cars are an attraction for automotive enthusiasts, family members can also find something to enjoy. Live music will be provided all day by DJ Jeff Grimaldi. Vendor booths will also be on the grounds with a wide variety of merchandise to peruse. Food, beverages and ice cream will be available to purchase, and there will be a sale of baked goods. There is no admission fee for the public, and plenty of parking will be available. Visitors are asked to bring nonperishable food items to support the Solanco Neighborhood Ministries food bank. Proceeds from this year’s event will also go to the food bank. Lancaster County Cruisers was founded in 1994 and welcomes any car, truck or motorcycle enthusiast. The club holds monthly meetings and other events in addition to the annual car show. For more information about the club or the car show, contact Richard Lanham at 410-920-6467 or Ed Caskey at 717-808-8606.
Lancaster County Cruisers members (from left) Linda Groff with a 2012 Corvette, Fred Fidler with a 1962 Chevrolet and Mike Holland with a 1956 Chevrolet are preparing for this year’s car show.
Team Places Promise Players To Return To The Stage Third In STEM Design After a two-year absence because of the pandemic, Promise Players, a Challenge community Christian theater group, will once again present a live performance, which will take place at a new venue. “Smoke on the Mountain,” a musical comedy, will be performed by Promise Players on Friday, July 8, through Sunday, July 10, and on Thursday, July 14, through Sunday, July 17. Performance times will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and at 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday matinees. The play will be staged rain or shine
A team of Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) students won the bronze award in this year’s Lincoln IU12 Fourth- and FifthGrade STEM Design Challenge. The L-S Castaways - consisting of fifthgraders Madison Adams, Esther Brubaker, Madison Carpenter, and Emma Stiles - ran with their teacher Eric Balak’s suggestion to enter the competition to “improve or redesign the future of transportation.” The students designed a floating car both protected by and powered by magnets. at the covered outdoor theater space at Rawlinsville Camp Meeting, 475 Clearfield Road, Holtwood. According to cast member Tim Strawser, who is also the director, the play was scheduled to be performed two years ago but was shut down in 2020 four days before opening night. “After a twoyear wait due to COVID-19 precautions, we are pleased to be able to offer this longanticipated show,” he stated. The play, set in June 1938 in North Carolina, tells the story of the singing Sanders family, which, after a fiveyear hiatus, is set to perform its traditional and bluegrass gospel songs at a Saturday Night Gospel Sing at the local
Baptist church. Because the family is running late, the pastor stalls the best he can. Finally, the family members arrive, and they begin their first musical number. The audience is introduced to the various family members. who share testimonies about their beliefs, which leads to some funny stories. Typically, Promise Players, which was formed in 1995 by church member Doreen Creighton, performs at its home theater at Lampeter Church of the Brethren. “The church location was not ready for the crowds we get for the performances,” Strawser said. “Rawlinsville Camp Meeting came to mind, which has an open-air tabernacle.”
Make It With Wool Contest Announced Registration for the 2022 Pennsylvania Make It With Wool Contest is open. Youths and adults who create with wool are encouraged to enter the state contest. Any youth or adult who sews, knits, or crochets garments with wool or other animal fibers is eligible to enter. All fabrics or yarns used in the body of the garment must be 60% or more animal fiber. Interfacings, linings, and trims do not need to be wool. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, Sept. 6. Several categories are available,
Christ-centered community Compassionate, highly trained caregivers Personal care, skilled nursing care & memory support
including preteens ages 8 to 12, juniors ages 13 to 16, seniors ages 17 to 24, and made for others, wherein both the model and contestant may be any age. Judging will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the PA Preferred Banquet Hall at the Farm Show Complex, 2300 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. Expert judges will handle the garments and meet with the contestants. Judging will be based on several criteria, including the appropriateness of the garment to the contestant’s lifestyle, the garment’s fit and overall appearance, coordination of fabric/yarn with garment style and design, the contestant’s presentation, construction quality, creativity in design and use of wool, and how well the garment conveys/promotes the beauty, comfort, and versatility of wool. See Wool pg 11
Each year, he noted, a local charity benefits from the Promise Players’ performances. This year’s beneficiary will be Rawlinsville Camp Meeting. More information about the facility is available at www.rawlinsvillecamp.com. Strawser noted that the theater board chooses the play. “We look at family-type plays and musicals. ‘Smoke on the Mountain’ was off-Broadway for a few years back in the 1990s, so its rights are more expensive,” said Strawser. “One of our audience members came to Doreen a few years ago and (suggested) the play and ... the benefactor has paid for the rights - an anonymous donor.” A suggested minimum donation will be payable at the door.
Children age 12 and under may bring a canned good or pay a nominal fee. The food items will be donated to the Blessings Pantry at Lampeter United Methodist Church. There will be no child care available at the performances. Reservations are encouraged, although seating is general admission on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a seat, visit www.eventbrite.com and search for “Promise Players present the comedy musical ‘Smoke on the Mountain’ 2022.” A link to order tickets is also available at http://lamp cob.com/promise-players. For more information, call the church office on Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 717-464-2050.
STEM Design from pg 1
Trooper Austen Barnett (far left) and teacher Eric Balak (far right) congratulate (from second from left) Emma Stiles, Madison Adams, Madison Carpenter, and Esther Brubaker on their award-winning car design.
“We were looking at circuits and realized that they used magnets to repel,” said Balak. “That is when the idea was born.” The team researched, ideated, prototyped, and eventually settled on a car that uses magnetic levitation to reduce the need for fossil fuels and magnetic bumpers to repel objects and thereby soften the impact of collisions. To gather additional feedback, the team enlisted the help of a crash expert. The
girls called on Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Austen Barnett, a longtime friend of Balak’s. “It’s very impressive that these students are thinking at such a high level,” said Barnett. “I think we may be seeing some future engineers.” The L-S Castaways team submitted a prototype for its Maglev Car and came in third place out of the 30 teams from various schools. The students received medals from IU12.

Meals on Wheels held a ribbon cutting event on May 18 in celebration of its new location at 1411 Columbia Ave., Lancaster. Operations moved to Columbia Avenue from the organization’s previous location on Manheim Pike in October 2021. The new location is a retrofit restaurant with a kitchen originally designed for food production. Nearly every piece of equipment was replaced with new equipment for higher efficiency of production and cost. The square footage of the Columbia Avenue location is more than double the space on Manheim Pike, from approximately 2,500 square feet to over 5,600 square feet. With increased storage, office, and kitchen prep spaces, Meals on Wheels has already been able to see more than a 10% increase in services provided. Fulton Foundation Supports Education Program The Fulton Forward Foundation, an independent, nonprofit private foundation funded by Fulton Bank, recently announced a $125,000 commitment to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), a global educational nonprofit focused on bringing the power of entrepreneurship to youths in low-income communities. The funds, which will be provided to the organization over a four-year period, will be used to support NFTE’s Aspiring Entrepreneurs Program. DMVA Earns Recognition
Provided as a community service by this civic minded publication and the Association of Community Publishers R081004
Gov. Tom Wolf recently presented 12 members of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) with Governor’s Awards for Excellence for their work to improve the lives of Pennsylvania’s nearly 800,000 veterans. The awards recognize commonwealth employees for exemplary job performance or service that reflects initiative, leadership, innovation, and increased efficiency. Ten of the award recipients are members of the Veteran Outreach Team. Local members of this team recognized for their dedicated advocacy and networking across Pennsylvania are Erica Lynn Moore of Harrisburg and James Stafford of Lancaster.
Veterans and their family members face a wide variety of needs after their service, from reintegration to civilian life to aging-related concerns. There are many programs and support services that can be leveraged to address these needs. The DMVA’s Veteran Outreach Team has removed barriers to these services by uncovering, raising awareness of, and streamlining connection to resources across the Commonwealth. The team has done this primarily through PA VETConnect, an outreach program allowing the DMVA to concentrate on delivering services from within the communities where veterans live. It also allows the DMVA to utilize community-based providers

PA residents scramble to get State Silver Bank Rolls PENNSYLVANIA - Once Pennsylvania residents got wind that Pennsylvania State Bank Rolls filled with Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s were being handed over, there was a mad dash to get them. That’s because they are the only Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. “The phones will be ringing off the hook. That’s because everyone will be trying to get them while they still can,” according to officials at the National Mint and Treasury who say they can barely keep up with all the orders. In fact, they had to impose a strict limit of 4 Pennsylvania
State Bank Rolls. So, if you get the chance to get your hands on these State Bank Rolls you better hurry because hundreds of Pennsylvania residents already have and you don’t want to miss out. You see, the U.S. Gov’t stopped minting these Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars in 1947 and there can never be any more which moves them into the collectible coin status. And here’s the best part. The rolls are unsearched so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value. That’s why the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walk-
ing Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Roll is a deal too good to pass up. But you better hurry because these Pennsylvania State Bank Rolls themselves have been marked State Restricted by price which means the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury is restricted to Pennsylvania residents and non-state residents must pay full price if any remain. That’s because they make amazing gifts for children, grandchildren and loved ones. Just imagine the look on their face when you hand them one of the State Bank Rolls — they’ll tell everyone they know what you did for them.
Q GOT ‘EM: These are the only Walking Liberty Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. Each Bank Roll is loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars some dating back to the early 1900’s so everyone who wants them better hurry.
Only State Restricted Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls go to Pennsylvania residents Pennsylvania residents get first dibs on Sealed Bank Rolls loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value starting at 7:30 am today and Treasury,” Lynne explained. “Now that the State of Pennsylvania Sealed Bank Rolls are being offered up we won’t be surprised if thousands of Pennsylvania residents claim the maximum limit allowed of 4 Bank Rolls per resident while they still can,” said Lynne. “That’s because after the Bank Rolls were loaded with 15 U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties, each verified to meet a minimum collector grade of very good or above, the dates and mint marks of the Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars found inside the Bank Rolls have never been searched. But, we do know that some of these coins date clear back to the early 1900’s and are 90% pure silver so Pennsylvania residents who get their hands on them will be glad they did,” Lynne went on to say. And here’s the best part. If you are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania you cover only the $39 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, that’s 15 U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars worth up to 100 times their face value for just $585 which is a real steal because state residents who miss the deadline and non state residents must pay $118 per coin which totals $1,770 if any coins remain after the 2-day deadline. “U.S. Gov’t issued coins like these are 90% pure silver and a favorite of dealers, collectors and the like,” Lynne said. “We know the phones will be ringing off the hook. So the only thing readers need to do is make sure they are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania and call the State Toll-Free Hotlines printed in today’s publication,” Lynne said. Q
SILVER: One of the last Silver coins minted for circulation
LAST MINTED: in Philadelphia, Denver & San Francisco
STATE MINIMUM: Of just $39 per coin set by National Mint and Treasury
ENLARGED: Year varies 1916-1947
RARELY SEEN: Minted by the U.S. mint in the early 1900’s
TO CLAIM THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE BANK ROLLS CALL: 1-800-260-7945 EXT. WHH1004 Are these Silver Walking Liberties worth more than other half dollars:
Yes. These U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties were minted in the early 1900’s and will never be minted again. That makes them collectible. The vast majority of half dollars minted after 1970 have no silver content at all and these Walking Liberty Half Dollars were one of the last silver coins minted for circulation. So there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.
How much are State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls worth:
It’s impossible to say, but some of these U.S Gov’t issued Walking Liberty Half Dollars date back to the early 1900’s and there are 15 in each Bank Roll so you better hurry if you want to get your hands on them. Collector values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees. But we do know Walking Liberties are collectible so anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Silver Bank Rolls should hold onto them because there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.
How do I get the State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls:
Pennsylvania residents are authorized to claim up to the limit of 4 Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls by calling the State Toll Free Hotline at 1-800-260-7945 Ext. WHH1004 starting at precisely 8:30 am this morning. Everyone who does is getting the only Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. That’s a full Bank Roll containing 15 Silver Walking Liberties from the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value for just the state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walking Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Rolls and that’s a real steal because non state residents must pay $1,770 for each Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Roll if any remain.

PENNSYLVANIA - “Pennsylvania residents get first dibs. That’s why Hotline Operators are bracing for the flood of calls,” said Laura Lynne, U.S. Coin and Currency Director for the National Mint and Treasury. Beginning at precisely 7:30 am this morning State of Pennsylvania Sealed Bank Rolls loaded with rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents who call the State Toll-Free Hotlines listed in today’s newspaper publication. “National Mint and Treasury recently spoke with its Chief Professional Numismatist who said ‘Very few people have ever actually saw one of these rarely seen Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars issued by the U.S. Gov’t back in the early 1900’s. But to actually find them sealed away in State Bank Rolls is like finding buried treasure. So anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Bank Rolls had better hold on to them,’” Lynne said. “But here’s the good news. The Bank Rolls themselves have been marked State Restricted by price which means the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury is restricted to Pennsylvania residents only and non-state residents must pay full price if any Bank Rolls remain,” Lynne confirmed This is important to note. “These are the only Pennsylvania State Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls known to exist. You can’t get them at banks or credit unions or the Government since they do not produce State Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls. In fact, you can only get them bearing the exclusive State Restricted Design and rolled this way directly from National Mint
