Take A Ride With The Rotary Club and community leaders. In fulfilling this mission, Rotary Clubs hope to see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in their communities, and in them. On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Rotary Club of Lancaster South will host its inaugural motorcycle ride and pancake breakfast fundraiser. The event will benefit affordable housing programs offered by Tenfold,

Chartered on June 20, 1987, with 35 members, the Rotary Club of Lancaster South is one of more than 35,000 Rotary Clubs scattered across the globe. Maintain An Attitude Of Gratitude At Outpour Kids

“There is a lot of research on music improving self-esteem and building confidence in kids,” said Katie Wieand, children’s ministry music director at Grace Community Church of Willow Street (GCCWS), 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street. “Music is just one of the many things that helps build kids up.” Katie has a master’s degree in music and teaches private vocal lessons. After seeing a need in her community for a musical outlet specifically for children, she started the Outpour Kids program at GCCWS. The mission of Outpour Kids is to encourage children “to create with passion, excellence, and purpose while growing in a knowledge of
and a love for Jesus,” Katie said. During the fall session, students will learn to sing in unison and simple parts; practice singing basics such as proper breathing, diction, and posture; develop choral disciplines like choir etiquette and watching the director; and gain an understanding of worship to God and service to the church. The upcoming fall session is open to all children in grades one through six, regardless of school district. This will be the second year of the Outpour Kids program, and Katie’s husband, Matt Wieand, will return as the devotional coach. “I’m looking forward to seeing how the returning students become leaders in the choir and help their peers because it’s not just the two directors of the program who can impact the participants,” stated

Katie. “I think seeing how the kids grow their faith and musical skills is one of the greatest blessings of this.” The theme of the fall session will be “Attitude of Gratitude,” and all the songs will draw from the book of Psalms. Participants will meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday for seven consecutive weeks between Thursday, Sept. 30, and Thursday, Nov. 11, with the last rehearsal on Friday, Nov. 19, before a final performance for the community at 7:30 p.m. “Everything was so organized and well planned,” said Quarryville resident Becky McGrath. Becky’s daughter Ella participated in a past session at Outpour Kids. “Ella got in the car and said it was the best time ever and that (Katie and Matt) treated all the kids like (their) own children.”
Firefighters have been saving American lives for more than three centuries. Although their techniques have changed throughout this time, firefighters are still saving thousands of lives each year. To respond to an emergency the best they possibly can, firefighters need special equipment, which is why the Strasburg Fire Company No. 1 will host its fifth annual golf tournament fundraiser.

Muddy Run Powwow 2021
Brace yourself for the “silver tsunami.” That’s a term used to describe the predicted dearth of workers in the future as the current workforce ages into retirement. Through an innovative initiative, the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC), is equipping students to prepare for their future. For more than 50 years, LCCTC has provided opportunities for high school and adult education, career training and workforce development. The Pathways to Careers and Higher Education program just launched for the 2021-22 school year and will build a bridge between secondary and postsecondary education. It serves as an umbrella over the various postsecondary opportunities available to students, said Amber Kreger, director of higher and continuing education.
Everyone is Welcome!
“This is a way to better serve our community of students by offering a pathway from what they are learning in high school directly into what they will learn in our adult program,” she explained. “The students are already in the same buildings as our adult learners. They cross paths often, so we thought, ‘Why not offer a program where the students can benefit from what we already do here?’” Under Pathways, students may earn Technical Institute in the High School credits, receive postsecondary credit transfers, participate in dual enrollment or earn credits through the state Students Occupationally and Academically Ready (SOAR) program. Pathways will allow students in senior-year programs the opportunity to accumulate credits that will follow them into higher education with partnering institutions. Higher learning partners include all community colleges
