Lampeter-Strasburg High School (LSHS), 1600 Book Road, Lancaster, will present its fall play at 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 7 to 9, in the school’s performing arts center. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door or online in advance, and students and seniors will receive a discounted rate.
This year’s show, “Rumors,” is a farcical play written by Neil Simon that involves a small cast of 10 characters. This is the second of Simon’s plays that the school’s theater department has performed; in 2021, LSHS students offered two renditions of Simon’s comedy “The Odd Couple.” Susan Rettew, the theater director at LSHS, said that Simon’s plays offer challenging

yet fun shows for her students.
“I’m a big fan of (Neil Simon),” Rettew added. “The dialogue is quick and witty, and students have to have excellent chemistry.”
Due to the small size of the cast and fast-paced dialogue, students have been rehearsing nearly every day to learn the script and foster friendships both on and off stage.
“The dialogue is quick and witty, and students have to have excellent chemistry.”
“Rumors” takes place at a dinner party held in honor of Charley Brock, the deputy mayor of New York City. The evening gradually unfolds into chaos after a comical series of mishaps, interpersonal bickering, an absent kitchen staff and more than one accidental gunshot.
Amara Russell, who will play the character Claire Ganz, said the show has been a new experience for her, as she has previously acted in larger-scale productions.
“Having such a small cast has its pros and cons, but seeing each other every day has helped us build chemistry,” Russell added. “We’ve all really enjoyed getting to know one another as people as well as how we’re playing the characters.”
For cast members such as Clara Mecouch, who will play the character Chris Gorman, rehearsing for “Rumors” has served as an opportunity to don a persona entirely opposite of her own.
“Chris is a smoker, and she has a whole thing where she gets really drunk,” Mecouch said. “It’s really fun getting to flop around on the couch, and it’s fun making everyone laugh.”

There exists a specific group of people who frequent museums merely to satisfy their curiosity. They don’t go to intentionally learn, but the learning happens organically, naturally.
Perhaps it’s not important to know exactly what type of learning goes on at the North Museum, only that the place simply promotes learning.
“It’s the joy of discovery, and it draws you in,” said Scott Downs, the North Museum’s director of
development and strategic partnerships. “That’s what happens at a museum. As you wander around the museum, you discover things. You stumble into things. Who knows what you’ll find? You don’t know what to expect. It’s a fascinating place.”
For the curious of all ages, there is plenty to find and discover at the North Museum of Nature and Science, which is located at 400 College Ave., Lancaster. The North Museum is three floors of exhibits, informational displays, stories and

“Without learning, I don’t think any of us survive,” said Downs. “Humans have been learning since we first populated the Earth. The North Museum prides itself as a leader in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The natural sciences are important. We’re really proponents of curiosity. It’s terribly important to foster that interest.”
An independent, nonprofit regional facility once associated with Franklin & Marshall College, the North Museum of Nature and Science is
home to all sorts of interesting exhibits, like a live animal room, a dinosaur hall, rock and mineral collections, a planetarium, a nature gallery, an art gallery and an ornithology collection. It’s a wonderful space to uncover things you didn’t know.
“The North Museum is committed to the community,” said Downs. “We are committed to being an educational resource for everyone in the community. Science is ever changing. We’re not constrained to a fixed number of topics. It can be anything and everything. It’s living.”
The North Museum hosts more
than 35,000 visitors annually, the majority of whom come from within a 100-mile radius of Lancaster. The North Museum has become a popular destination for field trips and bus trips alike.

part-timers. The facility is funded through donations, sponsorships, government grants, admission fees and paid programming.
“It’s genuinely inquisitive people,” said Downs. “They are people who are passionate about the museum because we have been doing it for so long. When parents bring kids to the museum, it’s an opportunity to explore together. It’s not just mom and dad bringing kids and letting them roam around the museum.”
“For me, the best thing is when I hear the noise of the kids,” Downs continued. “I hear kids teaching each other, discovering things and having a great time. It reminds me of why I do it. I’m with an organization that preserves the past, looks to the future, and we sell education and fun.”
The North Museum, which was established in 1953, employs nine full-time staffers and 12
“I like to call us the Little Museum Who Could,” said Downs. “There is no shortage of big ideas and big accomplishments here. We continue to change and evolve. There’s always something new and fresh to see with us. We partner with so many different organizations throughout the community. We also help bridge the gap between education and industry.”
“We really try to create access for everybody and create opportunities for everyone,” added Downs. “That’s a big part of our mission too.”

“Baggage Claim” is a modern-day parable about the D’Baquel family and their vacation gone awry. Smith, who has actively been involved with the Promise Players as an actor and director for about 12 years, said the theater group performed “Baggage Claim” several years ago. The first show was well received by audiences, and Smith was a member of the cast. “I’ve really enjoyed both being on and off stage over the years,” Smith added. “It’s a really friendly and loving atmo -

Dear Brother or Sister in Christ, In the United States, 40% of Christians do not vote.
If God did not want us to have an active role in His plans, He would not have called us to action repeatedly throughout Scripture. Again and again, from Genesis to Revelation, He calls on His people to act, to stand against evil, and to stand up for the needy and vulnerable (Isaiah 6:8, Matthew 28:18-20, Ephesians 5:11, Proverbs 29:2, Proverbs 31:8-9). If we sit on the sidelines while every good thing our nation stands for is destroyed, we will have violated far more Scripture than the handful of passages that may be misused to justify inaction.
Christians oftentimes ignore getting involved in the voting process for several reasons: (1) they don’t believe their vote counts, (2) they have been misinformed, or (3) they have never done it; therefore, it’s hard to break the ice. We encourage you to pray and ask God to help you break free from these fears. We are all called upon to do the right thing.
Many Christians do not vote because of pressure from their church and community. It is time to fully reverse that habit. We are all called upon to do the right thing. The hard part is finding the courage to stand up, to stand in the gap. Initially, you may be judged for doing so. But standing in the gap for good is the only way to stop this storm.
Here’s what you can do today to save the country:
1. You can vote early by mail, or in-person. Call us and we’ll help you better understand the options Pennsylvania offers: 717-403-7041.
2. Talk to everyone about why you are voting and why they should too.
3. Pray for our nation and our nation’s leaders. Please act. You don’t want to wake-up the day after the 2024 election wishing you had done more to save your community and your country.
Sincerely,
Amishman from Wayne County, Ohio
The vendors scheduled to participate include award-winning artist Carol Dale, who will showcase her paintings and prints; Tom Beaulieu, selling his rustic birdhouses; and Patricia Burkhart, with holiday and floral wreaths. Other crafts will include laser-cut, hand-painted décor; charcuterie boards; paper crafts; handmade jewelry; wooden games; floral arrangements; and all-natural herbal products.
The items up for bids in the silent auction will include tickets to Dutch Wonderland, the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, the Strasburg Rail Road and Magic & Wonder Dinner Theater. Each vendor will also donate an item for the auction.
Food and baked goods will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the church’s children’s ministry and mission teams.
Church to host former Major League Baseball player
Paradise Bible Fellowship Church, 3092 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, will host a meetand-greet with Lancaster County native Jeff Bianchi on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 9 a.m.
While baseball has played a large role in Bianchi’s life, his ultimate identity is not in a sport; rather,
A graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, he was on the 2005 state championship team and played for 12 seasons in professional baseball, including two and a half years at the Major League level with the Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox. He is also a silver medalist for Team USA.
his identity and purpose come from his relationship with Jesus. He believes that there is nothing more important than knowing and following Jesus.
Bianchi still lives locally. He founded Bianchi Baseball Academy and serves as the hitting coordinator for the Lancaster Stormers in the Atlantic League of Professional
Baseball.
Jeff and his wife, Nicole, have three children.
Autographs will be available at the event. Admission is free. Space is limited, and reservations are required by emailing office @paradisebfc.org.

Paradise Bible Fellowship Church is hosting a MEET & GREET with Lancaster Co. Native & Former MLB Player
JEFF BIANCHI
Saturday, Nov. 9 at 9:00 a.m.
A graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg, he was on the 2005 state championship team, and played 12 successful seasons in professional baseball, including 2-1/2 years at the Major League level with the Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox. He is also a silver medalist for Team USA.
While baseball has played a large role in Jeff’s life, his ultimate identity is not in a sport; rather his identity and purpose come from a relationship with Jesus. His journey reflects his belief that there is nothing more important than knowing and following Jesus.
Jeff still lives locally and founded Bianchi Baseball Academy and is serving as the hitting coordinator for the Lancaster Stormers in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
Jeff is married to his high school sweetheart, Nicole, and has 3 beautiful kids. In his free time, he likes spending quality time with his family.
Please join us at Paradise Bible Fellowship Church, 3092 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, on Nov. 9th at 9:00 a.m. Autographs will be available by Jeff. This exciting opportunity is free to the public and open to all ages. Space will be limited so RSVPs required via email to Office@paradisebfc.org

point for all of history. The story traces the Gospel from Jesus to the Apostle Paul and onward. Guests briefly learn about the impact of historical figures and events like King John and the signing of the Magna Carta, John Wycliffe translating the Bible into English, and Martin Luther and his 95 Theses. The tour moves on to the Reformation and Elizabeth I and James I, when persecution began for reformers in England, setting the stage for the rise of the Separatists. Guests then move through six stations that highlight God’s hand in establishing the Plymouth Colony in New England. It tells the Pilgrim story from the Pilgrims’ beginnings in Scrooby, England, through their escape to Holland and their voyage to the New World. Thanksgiving Exposed enables guests to witness how the seeds of Christian self-government were planted and later gave rise to the United States of America.
