Wiederseim To Sell Collection Of Ed And Carol Stoudt Of Stoudts’ Black Angus Brewery and Pub Sale To Take Place In Phoenixville On July 24
This is a vintage Wurlitzer juke box. Wiederseim Associates is pleased to offer the private collection of Carol and Ed Stoudt for auction on Saturday, July 24, at 9 a.m. The sale includes the contents of the legendary Stoudt’s Black Angus Restaurant and Brewery in Adamstown, Pa., as well as Ed and Carol’s private collection from their home. After over 30 years in business, Ed and Carol have sold the business and are seeking their next adventure.
The couple opened the Black Angus Antique Mall along with the restaurant and beer garden in the 1980s. Business was good. Why not open a brewery? Based on German beers brewed in the Reinheitsgebot tradition, the couple opened the brewery in 1987, with Carol becoming the first female brewmaster in the U.S. since Prohibition. Through the years, the couple traveled and collected extensively
for their business and home. They assembled items such as Black Forest carved furniture (including two tall case clocks), whimsical circus novelties, Art Nouveau brass chandeliers for the beer hall, carousel horses and an unusual carousel
running rooster, vintage posters, a large collection of German steins, a restored 1932 Auburn Convertible and a 1937 Ford Woody, partially restored, all of which will be in the July 24 sale. “If you’ve ever been to Stoudt’s, you’ll be very familiar with the items in this sale and won’t want to miss it. Their Oktoberfests were the best! Ed in his lederhosen leading the procession, the beer hall with great German food and the German band,” said Ted Wiederseim, auctioneer and owner of Wiederseim Associates Inc. “The Stoudt sale will be our first live sale in over a year, and we’re very excited about getting back to business as usual.” Bidding will be live/in-person as well as live online through Bidsquare, Invaluable and Liveauctioneers. A preview starts Monday, July 19, and runs through Friday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held at Wiederseim’s facility, located at 1041 W. Bridge St., Phoenixville, Pa. For additional information, call 610-827-1910 or visit www.wiederseim.com.
The massive Art Deco brass chandeliers are from Stoudt’s Bier Hall.
July Is Customer Appreciation Month At The Emporium The Historic Burlington Antiques and Art Emporium in Burlington City, N.J., will continue its year-long celebration of 20 years in business with Customer Appreciation Month all July. The Emporium will give away three gift certificates at the end of the month. Three lucky customers will have a chance to win a $50, $25, or $15 gift certificate to the multidealer shop. Each time a customer receives an invoice, they will receive a raffle ticket, thus the more a customer buys, the more chances they have of winning. Also, each month during the summer, the front sales display case will highlight dealer’s best or unusual items from their booth or case. The Emporium will be divided into three sections, starting with its dealers located on Route 130 and ending with the dealers on River Continued on page 5

Freimuth chooses the colors for the quilt tops from the many patterns in her room full of donated fabrics. The group accepts donations of cotton-weight fabric, and Freimuth visits a fabric outlet for backing material. “We tie quilts,” she explained. Freimuth creates the layout and pattern for a quilt for other group members to sew at home. When the group meets, members put the front and batting together, and another group member uses a sewing machine located at the church to sew the binding.
Freimuth estimates it takes about 10 hours to complete a quilt. In 2014, the group made 135 quilts. In comparison, for 2020, after not meeting due to COVID-19 restrictions, the group completed 43 quilts. In addition to Freimuth, members of the group who worked on those quilts were Kathy Ashcroft, Ralph Bitler, Jean Brown, Martha Cressman, Brenda Dagan, Andrea Dukeman, Peg Friday, Carol Hagan, Doris Hunsberger, Kathy Lindman, Nancy Middlekauff, Jean Tressler, Sharon Shaeffer,

Elaine Wright, and Theona Waxbom. In 2018, four members of the quilters visited the Cover Girls, a quilting group associated with Bay Shore Lutheran Church, located in Whitefish Bay, Wis. Several years before, the Cover Girls had been trying to revitalize their quilting group, and when they found a photo on the internet of the Trinity quilts displayed in the church, they noticed a similarity in the churches and used the photo to promote their group. They sent the Trinity Quilters a copy with a note in 2016, and a friendship was born. Freimuth reported that during the 2018 visit, the Trinity group enjoyed a luncheon and a show-and-tell of Bay Shore quilts. The two groups also discussed production methods. Because each box of quilts is barcoded, the group knows where the quilts have been shipped. “We know our quilts were in Beirut, Lebanon, when the port blew up (in August 2020),” said Freimuth, who noted that the group thought the quilts were lost. Instead, 25,000 quilts were found in the one concrete building left standing. “Our quilts were immediately used,” said Freimuth. More information about the work of Lutheran World Relief may be found at https://lwr.org. Information about Trinity Lutheran is available at www.trinity newholland.org.

It began when Barbara Caruana was assistant pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E. Main St., New Holland, in 2003. “She wanted quilts to give to those she visited who were ill,” recalled Karin Freimuth, who said that three quilters worked together to create the quilts Caruana requested. From that humble beginning, a group of about 15 quilters has now sent nearly 1,500 quilts through Lutheran World Relief to places as far away as Angola, Honduras, Pakistan, and Peru. The Trinity Lutheran Quilters meet each Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Until 2020, they averaged about 100 quilts per year. Each October, the completed quilts are hung over the church pews and blessed before being taken to Bergstrasse Lutheran Church in Ephrata to be trucked to New Windsor, Md., and shipped to locations around the world.

The girls, nicknamed “pageant sisters,” visited Hickory House on Dec. 5 to complete the community outreach project. “We dropped off cards for the senior citizens that were hand signed by each of the girls,” said Maille. “Then we decorated two trees outdoors and we did window painting with (images) of Christmas trees and stockings.” The girls met through a Facebook page created by Maille’s mother, Megan. Megan is also friends with Jennifer Dunbar, who works at Hickory House and arranged the visit. This is the second time that the pageant sisters have visited Hickory House to decorate for Christmas. Maille and a group of girls also distributed valentines and painted Valentine’s Day messages on the windows at the nursing home last February. On all of these occasions, the girls had to remain outside because of COVID-19 restrictions. “ We had one resident Margie - who we knew from the last time. She was watching us through the window, and we took a photo with her,” Maille pointed out. In addition to her efforts at Hickory House, Maille took

Readers learned about local residents who were color blind but were able to see color for the first time thanks to special glasses developed by EnChroma, a company based out of Berkeley, Calif., that produces eyewear for color blindness and low vision. The glasses were unveiled during a ceremony held at the Village Library of Morgantown on June 26. “Colors come up every day, so it’s an opportunity to communicate with people in a language you have never been able to speak,” said Randy Litwin, one of the recipients of the glasses. Lasagna Love, which matches people in need of a homecooked meal with a volunteer home cook, was highlighted in March of 2021. The effort provides

Community groups were also active in 2021, including the Honey Brook Food Pantry and the Twin Valley Food Pantry (TVFP), which provided food and necessities to people in need; the Rotary Club of Twin Valley, which held an Empty Bowls event to benefit the TVFP; the American Legion Riders from Post 626 in Birdsboro, who constructed an access ramp for a disabled veteran; and the Honey Brook Borough Police Department, which held its annual Christmas toy drive. Many celebrations that were canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic returned in full in 2021, including the Hay Creek
Festival, Apple Festival and Christmas at Joanna at Historic Joanna Furnace; Poole Forge Day held at Historic Poole Forge in Narvon; Christmas in Birdsboro; and the Honey Brook Borough Summer Concert Series. Twin Valley High School (TVHS) was able to hold an in-person graduation ceremony on June 5 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. During the event, TVHS principal William Clements listed the accomplishments of the Class of 2021, including awards and honors won by students in FFA and Technology Students of America, being able to present a school musical and other performances despite the pandemic and the achievements of student artists and student-athletes. He reported that the school Mini-THON collected more

People who were highlighted in 2021 include new Boone Area Library director Ashley Allen; Lionel McCulloch of Morgantown, a student at West Chester University (WCU) who earned an award for completing the WCU yearbook in 2021 despite the fact that WCU classes were held virtually; and firefighter Steve Dragon from the BirdsboroUnion Fire Department, who published his second children’s book, “Were You Born a Dragon Too?” The area’s three libraries Honey Brook Community Library, the Boone Area Library of Birdsboro and the Village Library of Morgantown - continued to offer programming in 2021 despite limitations caused by the pandemic.
Strategies To Disconnect From Devices

Devices are a big part of life in the 21st century. People may have access to tablets, laptops, and desktop computers, but people may be likely to spend more time on their smartphones. With a new year on the horizon, people may resolve to make better use of their time in the months ahead. Disconnecting from devices like smartphones can help individuals accomplish that goal. Individuals can employ various strategies as they aspire to spend less time on their
EAGLE SHOWS MORGANTOWN GUN SHOW
devices. Suggested strategies include closing some social media accounts, turning off notifications, and changing one’s reading habits. Social media can be a useful tool to stay connected with family, friends, and the local community, but those connections can be maintained through one or two social media platforms. Closing some social media accounts can reduce the temptation to pick up a device, ultimately paving the way to more time away from tablets, smartphones, and laptops. People may also be tempted to pick up their smartphone when they hear the sound of a notification. Turning off notifications makes it easier to disconnect from devices and potentially be more productive. E-reader enthusiasts may
have access to millions of books at their fingertips, but that access could come at a steep cost. Distractions abound when reading books on tablets, smartphones, and e-readers. The internet is only a swipe or two away when reading e-books, while print books provide no such access to the internet. For this reason, readers may consider sticking to print books. Tablets and e-readers employ the same notification system as smartphones, so readers who prefer the digital route can turn those notifications off before sitting down with a good book. Some people may aspire to disconnect from their devices more often in the new year. The success of such resolutions may depend on the approach individuals employ.

The store is operated by an all-volunteer resale shop committee comprising approximately 25 volunteers. “We are open for donations on Mondays, and during that time, we have a crew of volunteers that accepts the donations, unpacks them, prices them and shelves them,” said Guthrie. “We have a dedicated group of volunteers. In 2018, they won (Tel Hai’s) Volunteer of the Year award.” Since items sold at the store are all donated, all profits go to the Care Assurance Fund. “Our benevolent fund is there to help residents who have outlived their financial resources. It helps cover the cost of their services should they run out of money,” said Guthrie, noting that a resale shop has operated at Tel Hai since 1997. “It has contributed over a half million dollars to the fund to date. Prior to the pandemic, we had a record year of (earning) $48,000 in 2019. We are slowly getting back to that. The volunteers take pride in what we raise. They are responsible for that (money) going into the care fund.” Guthrie said the store is beneficial to Tel Hai residents, the community and the volunteers. “We are a service

PA residents scramble to get last Walking Liberty Rolls PENNSYLVANIA - Once Pennsylvania residents got wind that Pennsylvania State Restricted Bank Rolls filled with Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s were being handed over, there was a mad dash to get them. That’s because some of these U.S. Gov’t issued silver coins are already worth hundreds in collector value. “It’s like a run on the banks. The phones are ringing off the hook. That’s because everyone is trying to get them before they’re all gone,” according to officials at the National Mint and Treasury who say they can barely keep up with all the orders. In fact, they had to impose a strict limit of 4 Pennsylvania State Restricted Bank Rolls. So, if you get the chance to get your hands on these State Restricted Bank Rolls you better hurry because hundreds of Pennsylvania residents al-
ready have and you don’t want to miss out. You see, the U.S. Gov’t stopped minting these Silver Walking Liberties in 1947 and there can never be any more which makes them extremely collectible. And here’s the best part. The rolls are unsearched so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value. That’s why at just the $39 state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury it’s a deal too good to pass up. But you better hurry because these Pennsylvania State Restricted Bank Rolls are the only ones known to exist and Pennsylvania residents are grabbing them up as fast as they can. That’s because they make amazing gifts for children, grandchildren and loved ones. Just imagine the look on their face when you hand them one of the State Restricted Rolls — they’ll tell everyone they know what you did for them.
Q GOT ‘EM: Residents all across Pennsylvania who get their hands on these State Restricted Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls are definitely showing them off. That’s because they are the only ones known to exist. And here’s the best part, these Bank Rolls are loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty coins some dating back to the early 1900’s and worth up to 100 times their face value so everyone wants them.

HOW TO CLAIM THE LAST STATE RESTRICTED BANK ROLLS If you are a Pennsylvania State Resident read the important information below about claiming the State Silver Bank Rolls, then call the State Toll-Free Hotline at 8:30 am: 1-800-979-3771 EXT: RWB3511
Are these Silver Walking Liberties worth more than other half dollars:
Yes. These U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties were minted in the early 1900’s and will never be minted again. That makes them extremely collectible. The vast majority of half dollars minted after 1970 have no silver content at all and these Walking Liberties were one of the last silver coins minted for circulation. That’s why many of them now command hundreds in collector value so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.
How much are State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls worth:
It’s impossible to say, but some of these U.S Gov’t issued Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s are worth up to 100 times the face value and there are 15 in each Bank Roll so you better hurry if you want to get your hands on them. Collector values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees. But we do know they are the only Pennsylvania State Silver Bank Rolls known to exist and Walking Liberties are highly collectible so anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Silver Bank Rolls should hold onto them because there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.
Why are so many Pennsylvania residents claiming them:
Because they are the only State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls known to exist and everyone wants their share. Each Bank Roll contains a whopping 15 Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value. Best of all Pennsylvania residents are guaranteed to get them for the state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walking Liberty for the next two days.
How do I get the State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls:
Pennsylvania residents are authorized to claim up to the limit of 4 State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls by calling the State Toll Free Hotline at 1-800-979-3771 Ext. RWB3511 starting at precisely 8:30 am this morning. Everyone who does is getting the only State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls known to exist. That’s a full Bank Roll containing 15 Silver Walking Liberties from the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value for just the state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walking Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Rolls and that’s a real steal because non state residents are not permitted to call before 5 pm tomorrow and must pay $1,770 for each Pennsylvania State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Roll if any remain.

PENNSYLVANIA - “It’s a miracle these State Restricted Bank Rolls even exist. That’s why Hotline Operators are bracing for the flood of calls,” said Laura Lynne, U.S. Coin and Currency Director for the National Mint and Treasury. For the next 2 days the last remaining State of Pennsylvania Restricted Bank Rolls loaded with rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents who call the State Toll-Free Hotlines listed in today’s newspaper publication. “National Mint and Treasury recently spoke with its Chief Professional Numismatist who said ‘Very few people have ever actually saw one of these rarely seen Silver Walking Liberties issued by the U.S. Gov’t back in the early 1900’s. But to actually find them sealed away in State Restricted Bank Rolls is like finding buried treasure. So anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Bank Rolls had better hold on to them,’” Lynne said. “Now that the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Bank Rolls are being offered up we won’t be surprised if thousands of Pennsylvania residents claim the maximum limit allowed of 4 Bank Rolls per resident before they’re all gone,” said Lynne. “That’s because after the Bank Rolls were loaded with 15 rarely seen Silver Walking Liberties, each verified to meet a minimum collector grade of very good or above, the dates and mint marks of the U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars sealed away inside the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Bank Rolls have never been searched. But, we do know that some of these coins date clear back to the early 1900’s and are worth up to 100 times their face value, so there is no telling what Pennsylvania residents will find until they sort through all the coins,” Lynne went on to say. And here’s the best part. If you are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania you cover only the $39 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, that’s fifteen rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties worth up to 100 times their face value for just $585 which is a real steal because non state residents must pay $118 per coin which totals $1,770 if any coins remain after the 2-day deadline. The only thing Pennsylvania residents need to do is call the State Toll-Free Hotlines printed in today’s newspaper publication before the 2-day order deadline ends. “Rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued silver coins like these are highly sought after, but we’ve never seen anything like this before. According to The Official Red Book, a Guide Book of United States Coins many Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars are now worth $40 - $825 each in collector value,” Lynne said. “We’re guessing thousands of Pennsylvania residents will be taking the maximum limit of 4 Bank Rolls because they make such amazing gifts for any occasion for children, parents, grandparents, friends and loved ones,” Lynne continued. “We know the phones will be ringing off the hook. That’s why hundreds of Hotline Operators are standing by to answer the phones beginning at 8:30 am this morning. We’re going to do our best, but with just 2 days to answer all the calls it won’t be easy. So make sure to tell everyone to keep calling if all lines are busy. We’ll do our best to answer them all.” Lynne said. The only thing readers of today’s newspaper publication need to do is make sure they are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania and call the National Toll-Free Hotlines before the 2-day deadline ends midnight tomorrow. Brandywine YMCA Names New Executive Director BY FRANCINE FULTON
“ W hen I think of the YMCA as a wellness facility, there is so much more than coming to work out,” stated Jess Rigo, who was recently named the executive director of the Brandywine YMCA in Coatesville. “It’s about your mental health and physical well-being, being connected to community and having a safe place where kids can come after school. Wellness is that whole mind-bodyspiritual connection that we do so well that goes beyond coming in and walking on a treadmill.”
Rigo has served in numerous leadership roles across several YMCA associations and worked for 15 years in the mental health field. “My ultimate goal has been to return to the Brandywine Y, which I’ve always considered my home branch,” Rigo said, noting that the interview process began in August and her start day was in October. She worked at the Brandywine branch parttime from 2010 to 2015 and at the Lancaster Family YMCA, which is now the YMCA of the Roses. After that, she spent the last five years at the Spring Valley YMCA in Limerick.

Prevent Blindness, a nonprofit eye health and safety organization, has provided the public with information on the impact that diabetes can have on vision and offered tools and programs to help prevent significant vision loss from the disease. The group has created a variety of resources, including a dedicated webpage, providing detailed information on diabetes-related eye diseases, downloadable fact sheets in English and Spanish, and shareable social media graphics. Prevent Blindness has also developed the Diabetes & the Eyes Educational Toolkit with free materials on diabetes and the impact of this disease on eye health. The toolkit includes fact sheets, presentations, and shareable social media graphics in English and Spanish. These educational resources are intended for health care professionals, community health educators, and those in a caregiving or diabetes education role.
Complications associated with diabetes can include diabetes-related retinopathy (DR), which in turn can cause diabetic macular edema (DME). Vision loss can occur. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that early detection and treatment, when warranted, can prevent or delay blindness due to DR in many people with diabetes. However, people who do not get their eyes examined may be diagnosed too late for treatment to provide its maximum effectiveness. The longer someone has diabetes, the higher his or her risk for developing DR, including DME. To learn more about diabetesrelated eye disease, visit https:// preventblindness.org/diabetes-and -your-eyes/ or call Prevent Blindness at 800-331-2020.
