The Righteous Clothing Thrift Store will hold a year-end auction on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Parkesburg United Methodist Church (UMC), 411 Main St., Parkesburg. A large variety of goods will be up for bid, including high-end items that have been available for sale in the store as well as holiday decor. Bidder registration will open at 9 a.m., followed by the auction at 10 a.m. The first-time event is being held to make room for additional merchandise to be displayed in the store, which is located at 317 Main St., Parkesburg. Because of the auction, the store will be closed on Dec. 16. “We have a very large quantity of donations that we get from the community, and we have a lot of higher-dollar items, so we thought this would be a great way to have some fun, make some money and get some of these items sold,” said Nicole Starner, who is the store’s lead volunteer along with Mae Taylor. “We (also) want everybody to hear about the store. A lot of people don’t know about us.” Several hundred items, varying in price, will be sold at the event. “It’s not just going to be expensive stuff,” noted Starner. Items on the auction block will include vintage glassware and toys, antiques, jewelry and sports memorabilia. The church’s United Methodists in Action (UMIA) group will auction off homemade baked goods. The auctioneer will be Ken Griest, who is volun-

IMPACT Church, 101 E. First Ave., Parkesburg, will present a live drivethrough Nativity that tells the story of Jesus’ life from His birth through His resurrection. The free event will take place on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. During the program, which will include live animals, music and costumed biblical characters, participants will be able stay in their cars to view the various tableaus. The program will be about 10 minutes in length, during which time attendees can listen to a narrative via a phone or computer tablet. “They will click on a link on our website that will open up a YouTube video with the audio,” explained Linda Wendling, administrative assistant at IMPACT Church. “There will be a sign at the entrance that tells them the website or a QR code they can scan. They will need a smart device.” There will be five scenes that will depict Jesus’ life, including Mary and Joseph traveling to the inn; Jesus’ birth in the manger, His life and ministry; and His death and resurrection. “Each car coming through will get a special gift from IMPACT Church and a chance to meet our pastor (Mike Bailey),” Wendling added. IMPACT Church is

also planning Christmas services. A Christmas celebration will be held during the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday, Dec. 17. The services will feature a special children’s presentation as well as a Christmas photo booth. On Sunday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, there will be a candle-lighting ceremony during the

morning gatherings, and the photo booth will be available as well. For more information about the church and any of the events listed, call 610-857-3887 or visit www .impactpachurch or www . faceb o o k . c o m / i m p a c t churchparkesburg. November observed as CO Awareness Month

YMCA from pg 4 Open Doors is a social meet-up for adults in the adaptive community, and Respite Recreation provides parents and caregivers an evening off while trained YMCA staff members care for people of all ages, including adults. Both programs provide an opportunity for connection among the adaptive community. In addition to expanding access to existing adaptive programs in January, the YGBW will further expand its catalog of adaptive programming in March by adding LEGO Club, SNAPshots Sports, a Bowling League and Small Group Training. The Y will also increase the number of locations that host Bumblebee Day Camp this summer. Bumblebee Day Camp is an adaptive summer camp that features a higher ratio of staff members to campers compared to traditional day camps, allowing camp counselors to provide focused attention and support to campers. Registration for summer camp will begin on Jan. 16. The YMCA offers a finan-

State Sen. Carolyn Comitta recently joined members of the Carly Imbierowicz Foundation to warn residents and families of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning during November, which is observed as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month. Carbon monoxide, more commonly referred to as CO, is a highly toxic gas, produced by devices that burn fuels like vehicles, furnaces, generators, grills and many others that are found in everyday life. According to the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association, it is responsible for 50,000 visits to the emergency room each year, and tragically, 1,200 deaths. One of those was 16-yearold Carly Marie Imbierowicz of Highland Township whose life was cut short by carbon monoxide poisoning on Nov. 22, 2014, along with that of her friend Daulton Pointek. PACHC is working with the Health Federation of Philadelphia (HFP) to provide technical support on the development of an SMBP program in these health centers for women who are within two years postpartum. This project will address barriers to care, such as transportation and child care, and re-engage postpar-

Ultimately, it will seek to address the issue of maternal mortality, which includes women dying in the postpartum period and disproportionately affects women of color across the commonwealth.
