A Chance To Play n 2021, Melissa Warmiak’s two sons - ages 11 and 8 - expressed interest in playing football. There was just one problem. Melissa’s family lives in the Pequea Valley School District (PVSD), and PVSD did not have a football program. “They could play for another school, but I wanted them to play for their school,” said Melissa, who started contacting PVSD staff about the problem in the fall of 2021. Soon Melissa had distributed a flyer to gauge interest and had connected with another couple, Nicole and Jeff O’Hara, whose son was also interested in playing. Now, the O’Haras, along with Melissa, are on a board that oversees Pequea Valley Youth Football Association (PVYFA), a program that teaches football skills and sportsmanship to boys and girls ages 7 to 13 in PVSD. Melissa, who serves as PVYFA president, reported that more than 65 youths are

Youth Football Returns To PVSD interested in taking part. Jeff serves as football director, assisted by Melissa’s husband, Gary. Linzi Arbutina is cheer director, and Modesty Hofmann is assistant cheer director. Adrienne Kilby is fundraising committee chair. Until about 2018, PVSD had a youth football program, which Melissa believes had been active since the 1990s. Unfortunately, equipment from that program is now considered outdated and illegal, and it will be expensive to replace. To raise funds, PVYFA will hold a dodgeball tournament for teams of six. The tournament for middle school and high school students will be held on Friday, March 18, beginning at 6 p.m. at Pequea Valley High School (PVHS), 4022 E. Newport Road, Kinzers. A tournament for elementary students and adults will be held at PVHS on Saturday, March 19, beginning at 10 a.m. Those wishing to take part may Organizers of the Pequea Valley Youth Football Association include (from left) Modesty Hofmann, register at www.pvyfa.com. Adam Nagle (left) and Mike Lewis are working to facilitate improved communication between employers and employees.

Mike Lewis, who is the first workforce advocate for The Factory Ministries, is making connections in the greater Paradise area. “We have been talking to area businesses and finding out what their needs are,” said Lewis. “One of the things that stood out was employee retention, so we have wrestled with how bringing advocacy into the workplace could help with retention.”

Jen West, program director for Girls on the Run (GOTR), is exuberant about the programming the 2022 Camp GOTR will offer to area girls entering third, fourth, or fifth grades by fall. “It opens possibilities for new careers for girls … where they can see past elementary school to what will be available for them (in the future),” said West.

GOTR has partnered with Thaddeus Stevens, UPMC, and Penn Cinema to make these field trips possible. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for girls to experience GOTR curriculum while also exposing them to (future) careers they might not have considered,” said Katie Sandoe, GOTR exec-

Factory from pg 1 Nagle, who has experience in employee training and retention, said that building such a program for frontline employees and employers has been under discussion. “We didn’t just want to add more programming,” noted Nagle. “We want it to be sustainable and fit the needs of our community.” The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic was a catalyst toward launching the program, according to Nagle. By the fall of 2021, The Factory had identified ways to step into the void. “(We wanted to answer the question) ‘How do we help employees maximize what they have?’” said Nagle, noting that The Factory advocates specialize in helping those in need to benefit from available resources for medical health, mental health, and other needs. Another goal is to help employers better understand employees. “There’s a gap between employees and the executives, and judgment can form on both sides,” said

Nagle. “Mike will be on-site to build relationships with people. We are looking to form a strong relationship to serve our for-profit friends and neighbors.” Lewis noted that helping employees to learn creative ways to maximize what they earn will be one of his missions. “A big part of the program is the idea of new learning,” Lewis said. “(Wherever there is a) lack … to get more of that resource, you have to learn something new,” he explained. “That is one of the foundational principles we bring … to walk with somebody and (teach them something), so now they have tools they didn’t have before.” Employers and employees who would like to connect with Lewis may call 717-256-1643. In his new position, Lewis will be working to connect employees in a variety of local enterprises, including hospitality, transportation, food service, plumbing, electrical, and retail, with resources and services that are available to them. At the same time, he will work with employers using the Bridges Out of Poverty program to encourage communication between workers and employers to improve workforce retention. “The more effective the communication, the better the work environment, and the more likely someone will stay in that place of business,” said Lewis, who is currently transitioning from working as an adult advocate at The Factory. Lewis first connected with The Factory through executive director Adam Nagle when Lewis was completing his Master of Divinity at Liberty University in early 2021. Nagle, who was developing the workforce advocacy program at the time, saw Lewis as a possible fit for the position.

The Pequea Valley boys’ basketball team hung tough in two of its last three games, including a close one at Oley Valley in non-league weekend action. Coming off a loss to a very strong Columbia team back on February 1, the Braves played host to Camp Hill in a nonleague game two days later. The Lions and Braves played a seemingly conservative game in terms of scoring until the fourth quarter where Camp Hill outscored Pequea 28-14, finishing off a 55-28 win. Breagin Buxton had the lion’s share of the scoring. He scored 16 for Camp Hill and led all scorers on the day. Nevin Stoltzfus and Cam Beiler each scored six for the Braves. Samuel Arena and Colbee Davies each put up four points. Pequea played another nonleague game on Saturday, February 5 at Oley Valley. “That was probably the best game our guys played,” head coach Thad Rittenhouse said of the 56-44 setback. “ We were actually winning in the second half against a good team. I was very pleased with how hard we played.” The Braves, who fell to 4-15 following the loss, were trailing by only six points at the half.

Their short-lived lead in the third quarter ended up taking them into the final period still trailing by only six. “They didn’t press us much, so we were able to get into our offense,” Rittenhouse explained. Nevin Stoltzfus, who led Pequea with 12 points, and Arena (7 points) each made a pair of three-point buckets. Davies had a three-pointer as well and finished with seven while Beiler Hugh Johnson and Dylan Knott (two treys) each scored six. “We’ve been down in numbers, so everyone shared the scoring in that game,” Rittenhouse said, referring to the Braves’ active roster. “The guys came out with a lot of energy,” Rittenhouse added. “That’s something we had struggled with - starting out with some energy on the court. The season is coming to an end, so they brought it on Saturday.” Monday night’s 62-30 loss at home to Lancaster Country Day dropped the Braves’ Lancaster-Lebanon League record 2-6 and to 4-16 overall. The Cougars went on a 26-8 run in the third quarter to pull away in this one. “We hung tough with them in the first quarter,” said Rittenhouse, referring to the 12-7 margin after the opening peri-

od had ended. “Their half-court zone was very difficult for our boys. They put a lot of pressure on us. Their defense was tough, and our guys couldn’t get good looks at the basket.” Grant Landis was a oneman wrecking crew on offense, scoring 42 of the Cougars’ 62 points, including six three-point baskets. Jackson Neff led Pequea in scoring with nine points. He and Arena (8 points) each made a pair of three-pointers. Nevin Stoltzfus finished with five while Beiler and Davis each tallied four points. The Braves wrapped up their busy stretch of four games in seven days by facing Kutztown on the road Wednesday night, February 9. Despite a strong second quarter that cut Kutztown’s lead to only six at halftime, the K-town Cougars regained momentum and went on to win 51-38, holding off a late Pequea rally. Kutztown’s Xavier Goodman had the top figure in points with 15 on the night. Nevin Stoltzfus came through with 14 points, making three treys in the process. Neff also hit from three-point range three times and tallied 11 points while Arena finished with five. Rittenhouse looks ahead to a promising future next season, given that the under-

classmen gained a great deal of varsity experience this year as well as the fact that the PV junior varsity squad had an 11-6 mark this year. “We have a lot of sophomores and juniors,” he explained. “And our junior varsity team did very well this year. The few games that they lost were only by a few points.” GIRLS’ BASKETBALL Despite a defeat at the hands of Section Five champ Columbia, the Pequea Valley girls’ basketball team finds itself in a rather favorable position for the District Three Class AAA seedings. The Braves sit as the third-seeded team behind Brandywine Heights (17-4) and Trinity (15-6) Pequea Valley fell to 7-3 in the L-L League (12-10 overall) following a 63-27 loss at Columbia on Tuesday, February 8. The Crimson Tide (10-0 league) had already claimed the section trophy. The Tide’s Brie Droege scored a game-high 24 points while MacKenzie Burke scored 16. owner and is in the process of selling a painting of Lititz Moravian Church to a Lititz resident. Although he admits he has slowed down a bit with his painting, he is still finding local inspiration. He’s currently working on a painting of Steinman Park in downtown Lancaster. And he can’t imagine giving up what he loves anytime soon. “I must have something with my brain and my eye, because when I see certain colors or patterns, I’m happy,” he said. “I’ve been blessed in my life. Anything I liked, I’ve painted, and I’ve been able to do what I wanted to do.” For more information on Hermansader’s work, visit w w w. h e r m a n s a d e r s a r t gallery.com, email him at tfhermansader@comcast.net or call him at 717-684-7899.

as an artist, Hermansader kept painting, finding inspiration all over the county and beyond. He spends about 300 hours working on each painting, paying painstaking attention to detail from multiple photos he takes at the site. “Every brick, every stone in each building is exact,” he stated. “Nothing is estimated. I may be off by one, but I kind of doubt it.” In his painting of the Strasburg Rail Road, for example, he remembers counting 169 fence posts. His painting of the Veterans Memorial Bridge is exact down to the bridge’s bolts. His attention to detail and his focus on local landmarks has earned Hermansader an award from the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County. Subjects of Hermansader’s work include Donegal Presbyterian Church, Wheatland, the Fulton Theatre, the Hans Herr House and Linden Hall. He recently sold an original of the Conestoga House to its new

If you’ve ever admired a Lancaster County landmark, chances are, Tom Hermansader has painted it. For more than 40 years, Hermansader has been making his mark on the art world, creating paintings of churches, houses, bridges, schools and more. Now 71, he’s selling his originals and hoping to find buyers in the area so the works can remain close to home. “I’d like my paintings to go to the places they feature,” he stated. “It’s a recorded piece of history.” Hermansader started dabbling in art as a child. “My dad was a painter, and ever since I was about 5 years old, I’ve been drawn to it,” he recalled. “It was almost like watching a magic show. He’d start with white paper, put a few strokes down and the next thing you know, it’s the beginning of a painting.” He first pursued art school, attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, but soon realized it would not be easy to make a living as an artist. He transferred to Kutztown University and earned a degree in art education before moving to Columbia and teaching art at Columbia High School from 1973 to 1989. Although he enjoyed teaching, he still had a passion to paint, and he created his first painting of a local site Wright’s Ferry Mansion in Columbia - in 1981. “I put the print on display at the market house in Columbia to see if I could sell it, but I wasn’t sure how it would be received,” he said. “I ended up taking orders for 54 prints in the first two days.” Encouraged that perhaps he could eventually make a living

Last State Silver Bank Rolls up for grabs Fortune of old Silver Coins issued by the U.S. Gov’t sealed away in the only State Restricted Bank Rolls known to exist are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents STATE RESTRICTION: Only residents of PA get the $19 state minimum - non state residents must pay $57 per coin PENNSYLVANIA - “We’re bracing for the flood of calls,” said Laura Lynne, U.S. Coin and Currency Director for the National Mint and Treasury. That’s because the next 2 days the last remaining State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls loaded with rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents who call the National Toll-Free Hotlines listed in today’s newspaper publication. And here’s the best part. If you are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania you cover only the $19 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, that’s twenty rarely seen Silver clad Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars worth up to 60 times their face value for just $380 which is a real steal because non state residents must pay $57 per coin which totals $1,140 if any coins remain after the 2-day deadline. “National Mint and Treasury recently spoke with its Chief Professional Numismatist who said ‘Very few people have ever actually saw one of these rarely seen Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars minted over 50 years ago. But to actually find them sealed away in State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls is like finding buried treasure. So anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Bank Rolls had better hold on to them,’” Lynne said. “Now that the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls are being offered up we won’t be surprised if thousands of Pennsylvania residents claim the maximum limit al-

lowed of 6 Kennedy Presidential Silver Bank Rolls per resident before they’re all gone,” said Lynne. “That’s because the dates and mint marks of the U.S. Gov’t issued Silver clad Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars sealed away inside the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls have never been searched. But, we do know that these coins date back tot he mid 1900’s and some may be worth up to 60 times their face value, so there is no telling what Pennsylvania residents will find until they sort through all the coins,” Lynne went on to say. “Rarely seen silver coins like these are highly sought after, but we’ve never seen anything like this before. According to The Official Red Book, a Guide Book of United States Coins many Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars have nearly doubled in collector value in just the last several years,” Lynne said. “We’re guessing thousands of Pennsylvania residents will be taking the maximum limit of 6 Bank Rolls because you can only get them rolled this way directly from the National Mint and Treasury and they are the only State Restricted Bank Rolls known to exist,” Lynne continued. “We know the phones will be ringing off the hook. So make sure to tell everyone to keep calling if all lines are busy. We’ll do our best to answer them all,” Lynne said. The only thing readers of today’s newspaper publication need to do is make sure they are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania and call the National Toll-Free Hotlines before the 2-day deadline ends midnight tomorrow. Q IMPORTANT FACTS: The dates and mint marks of the rarely seen Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars sealed away inside the State of Pennsylvania Restricted Silver Bank Rolls have never been searched. Coin values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees, but any rare, scarce or highly collectible coins, regardless of their value that state residents may find inside the sealed Bank Rolls are theirs to keep.

Q FLYING OUT THE DOOR: Calls are pouring in from state residents who are trying to get their hands on the last State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls known to exist sealed away in the secured packages pictured above before the deadline ends. That’s because residents who beat the 2-day deadline printed in today’s publication by calling 1-800-233-5658 Ext. JFR1627 are cashing in on the lowest ever state minimum price set by the National Mint and Treasury.

Answering Your Questions Q: How to claim the last State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls A: If you are a Pennsylvania resident read the important information below about claiming the State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls, then call the State Toll-Free Hotline at: 1-800-233-5658 EXT: JFR1627 beginning at precisely 8:30 A.M. this morning. Q: Are these Silver Kennedy Half Dollars worth more than other Half Dollars? A: Yes. These rarely seen Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars were minted in the mid 1900’s. That makes these silver coins extremely collectible. The vast majority of half dollars minted after 1970 have no silver content at all. In fact, these Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars were the last silver coins minted for circulation. That’s why many of them now command collector values of many times their face value so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday. Q: How much are the State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls worth? A: It’s impossible to say, but these Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars date back to the mid 1900’s and some are worth up to 60 times the face value and there are 20 in each Bank Roll so you better hurry if you want to get your hands on them. Collector values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees. But we do know they are the only Pennsylvania State Silver Bank Rolls known to exist and Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars are highly collectible so anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls should hold onto them because there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.

Q: How do I get the State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls? A: The only thing Pennsylvania residents need to do is call the State Toll Free Hotline at 1-800-233-5658 Ext. JFR1627 before the deadline ends. Everyone who does is getting the only State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls known to exist. That’s a full Bank Roll of 20 Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars for just the $19 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, which totals just $380 for the full Bank Roll. That’s a real steal because non state residents are not permitted to call before 5 pm tomorrow and must pay $1,140 for each Pennsylvania State Restricted Silver Bank Roll if any remain.

R080511

Q: Why are so many Pennsylvania residents calling to get them? A: Because they are the only State Restricted Silver Bank Rolls known to exist and everyone wants their share. These are not ordinary bank rolls. These are full Bank Rolls containing 20 Silver Kennedy Presidential Half Dollars dating clear back to the mid 1900’s some worth up to 60 times their face value. Remember this. Only Pennsylvania residents are guaranteed to get them for just the $19 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury for the next two days. Non state residents must pay $57 per coin.
