Amazing Archer To Speak At Sportsman Dinner BY ANN MEAD ASH
aime Santiago, executive director and founder of Restart Training Center Ministry (RTCM), first heard of Matt Stutzman from Matt’s cousin, Steve Stutzman. “(Steve) said, ‘Maybe you should have my cousin who is a professional archer (speak at your sportsman banquet). He was born without arms.’” Santiago was stunned. “I was like, ‘ What?’” recalled Santiago. Now, having heard Matt speak at a previous RTCM banquet, Santiago has invited the award-winning archer back for the 2021 events. Matt, who is a Guinness World Record holder, Team USA Paralympian, and Paralympic Silver medalist, will speak at the RTCM sportsman banquets at the PA Auction Center, 1141 Wea Wit St., East Earl, on Tuesday, March 23, and Wednesday, March 24. Each night, doors will open at 5 p.m., and the buffet-style meal, which will be catered by Shady Maple,
prizes and auction items will include a Ten Point Vapor RS470 Crossbow, a Ravin R29X crossbow, a muzzle loader, and a 6-foot-by-6-foot tower blind. Now in its sixth year of ministry, RTCM strives to help men who have been traumatized and who have turned to abusing chemicals or developed other kinds of addictions. The organization currently serves nine students with classes in life, social, and spiritual development. Christian and clinical counseling, weekly Bible studies, and Celebrate Recovery meetings are part of the structured and consistent environment the program provides. “We take (students) out for vocational training,” said Santiago. The training teaches the student a skill and gives him a reference or an opportunity to become a full-time employee. Santiago reported that two students are currently earning their high school equivalency certificates, and two more are studying ministry at Lancaster Bible College.
Like food banks across the nation, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has been challenged during the coronavirus pandemic. However, thanks to donations from local businesses, help from governmental programs, the generosity of the community and the services of volunteers, the food bank remains committed to fulfill its mission, “fighting hunger, improving lives, strengthening communities.”

will begin at 5:30 p.m. Matt’s birth parents were overwhelmed by his disability, but adoptive parents Leon and Jean Stutzman embraced those challenges, guiding him to overcome obstacles with a “can do” attitude that encouraged Matt to try anything he wanted to do. His interest in archery was sparked by his desire to hunt with his father, not knowing the sport would become his life’s passion. Matt went on to win a medal at the 2012 Paralympics in London and to take part in the 2016 games as well as the 2017 U.S. Outdoor Target Nationals against an able-bodied field of competitors. In addition to Matt’s talk, the event will include auction items going up for bids, and a Chinese auction will also be held. According to Santiago, up to $20,000 worth of door prizes will be given away, and there will be grand prizes for both adults and children each evening. Grand prizes will be Mathews bows and children’s Wicked Ridge Rampage 360 crossbows. Other

Vintage Revival Spring Fever Market Planned BY ANN MEAD ASH
Debbie Luther, market facilitator for the Vintage Revival Market, recently recalled the origins of the gathering. “A group of ladies used to meet in a Walmart parking lot to share vintage items found at yard sales and auctions,” said Luther,
adding that she thinks those meetups began around 2012. Eventually the group began holding markets at an Akron church, and the event was held at that location for some time. Eventually, the group members became too busy to continue to run the market. Luther, who had been a

One food vendor will have beers, wines, and ciders. Food trucks will include those selling tacos, soft pretzels, breakfast sandwiches, chicken wings, and french fries. Luther noted that antiques and vintage items are differentiated by age. “Antiques are older than vintage,” said Luther. Rather than being 100 years old, vintage items are 30 or more years old. “I am not an expert on vintage, but it’s (mostly) from the 50s, 60’s, 70s,” said Luther. Coming off a close 30-26 victory over Octorara back on February 3, the Braves downed another nonleague opponent, winning 37-15 at York Vo-Tech the following night. The Braves squad, which is filled with experienced wrestlers this year, went on to defeat Columbia and Hanover in matches that had a slew of forfeits each. In the York Vo-Tech match, seniors Jace Beegle and Dustin Huber each registered a pin in the 126-pound and 152-pound weight classes, respectively. Collin Rohrer pinned Benjamin Elick in the 138pound bout while Carter Rohrer earned an 8-0 major decision at 132. Earning three points for his team was Pequea sophomore Zach Hollenbaugh with a 9-3 decision. In the Octorara meet, Huber and senior heavyweight Nate Miller each worked a pin. Huber’s came at the 160-pound bout. Beegle earned a 12-7 decision and Liam McGinley (106) won by a 12-4 count. In defeating Hanover by a slim 44-42 margin, the Braves simply had fewer forfeits. Wins included McGinley’s 4-3 decision, a pin by Luke Brown while Huber earned a technical fall, 23-5. BOYS’ BASKETBALL The Pequea boys’ team played its first game in more than two weeks on Monday night, February 8. In the Section Five contest, the Braves fell short to the Cougars in a game at Lancaster Country Day, 59-36. Pequea fell to 1-4 (1-3 league). head coach, stated. “As the game went on, we picked up the pace against them. They don’t like playing fast. We created a lot of turnovers and our defense led to our offense.” Sarah Arment was an offensive force that could not be contained. She scored 16 for Pequea and led all scorers. She also grabbed eight rebounds. “Most of her scoring came in the second half after we had picked up the pace,” said McDonald. Shaina Stoltzfus came through with nine points, including a threepoint bucket. She also had five assists. Rebecca Cox put up eight points and hauled in five rebounds. One night earlier, the Braves faced the Columbia Crimson Tide in a Section Five game on the road.

Food Bank from pg 6
“Back in March, we knew it would be big, and we started sending out (donation) letters and we received immediate response,” Arthur stated. “Our appeals for extra help have (resulted in) a lot of generosity. It has been inspiring - the response we have received from people, foundations and businesses that are doing OK.” The community is invited to continue to help the food bank through donations or by volunteering to help sort and pack food. Since in-person food drives are currently suspended, people may take part in a virtual food drive by visiting www.centralpafood bank.org/ways-to-give/give -funds/virtual-food-drive. Arthur said that area residents should also support their local food banks in the next few months, when the need is especially strong. “We call it the ‘heat or eat’ season - when people decide whether to buy food or pay their heating bill,” he added.
