“It’s ‘Clue’ high school edition, and it’s based very closely on the board game,” said Alicia Trescavage, director of the Pequea Valley High School (PVHS) fall play. Trescavage added that she and assistant director Mindy Lapp had been considering doing a murder mystery and that they felt the timing was right. “A lot of students (auditioned) because they know of Clue,” said Trescavage. “Even if they haven’t seen the movie, they have played the game.” “Clue” will be presented at PVHS, 4033 E. Newport Road, Kinzers, on Thursday, Nov. 4, and Friday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 and 7 p.m. Audience members are required to wear masks as per state and school guidelines.

Salisbury Students from pg 1 students in the district to participate in the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association (PSHA) contest held in May. To increase understanding of speech and language concerns, Lefever opens the competition to the whole school. “I open it up to everybody because the concept is to advocate about speech and language to the public,” noted Lefever, who added that some elementary school teachers ask her to visit their classes to explain the slogan and what how those who choose to participate in the contest should proceed. “I feel it’s helpful for all the kids to have the idea of what better hearing and speech (means),” said Lefever. The slogan for 2021 was “Blast off to better speech, language and hearing!” Over the years, individual PVSD students have placed in the contest at various time. In 2021, however, three Salisbury Elementary School learners received places and
prizes. Emma Gielenz won first place in the coloring contest, which is open to students in kindergarten through third grade. Shyann Metzler won second place in the drawing contest, which is open to third- through sixthgraders, and Addy Slaymaker won third place in the essay contest, which is open to fourth- through sixthgraders. Addy is now a student at Pequea Valley Intermediate School. All three students were honored at a PVSD meeting on Oct. 14. Lefever sent up to 100 entries to the statewide competition in mid-May. She heard back from PSHA around the beginning of the school year. Winning students received a certificate and a gift card in the mail. “They were all very excited (to win),” noted Lefever, who said that it was unusual to have three winners in the district and one winner in each category. “That was cool,” said Lefever, who added, “It’s great because
this year (more) kids will be interested in competing.” Readers who would like to know more about the district may visit www.pequeavalley.org.

Both the Central boys and the L-S girls were the second-place team in their respective section standings. “It was neat because the boys also won their section - both teams got to play at home,” said Steve Morris, the Pequea girls’ coach. “We got to both host the first round of the playoffs,” said boys’ head coach Peter Bennett, referring to his squad as well as the girls’ team. “It was a good occasion. We were just hoping for better results.” The results of the matches were not favorable for the Braves, however. In the boys’ game, Manheim Central scored early and forced Pequea to play catch-up, eventually defeating the Braves 4-1. Pequea fell to 135-1 on the year. Gabe Redcary scored two of Central’s four goals. Dylan Ratjavong scored Pequea Valley’s goal off an assist by Devin Stoltzfus. “I think the biggest thing to recognize is that speed of play increases as the competition gets better,” Bennett remarked. “Manheim CenPhoto by Cheri Sine tral was moving the ball quickly, Dylan Ratjavong takes control of the ball in front of Manheim especially in front of our goal. “We need to get off to a good Central’s Luke Redcay during Pequea Valley’s 4-1 L-L League start,” he added. playoff loss to the visiting Barons on October 16. squads play on Saturday, October 16 as the Lancaster-Lebanon League playoffs got underway in Soccer fans at Pequea Valley girls’ and boys’ soccer. The Braves look forward to starting the District Three Class 2A playoffs, a postseason stage that likely will begin with a match at third-seeded Boiling Springs on Saturday, October 30. “They are an attackminded team,” Bennett said. “We’ve struggled against fast teams. We might need to move some pieces around, so we don’t end up playing on our heels that much.” Having everyone back healthy will be crucial to the Braves’ success. “ We had a couple injuries toward the end of the season,” Bennett pointed out. students have been having fun with their roles, receiving their colorful costumes, and laughing at the jokes in the show. “They are just having a really good time with the material and coming up with different expressions for their characters and making their characters their own,” said Trescavage, who noted she enjoys seeing the camaraderie developing between cast members. “I am super proud of the job they do and the people that they are,” she said. The play features Wadsworth, played by Colton Mann; Yvette, played by Olivia Ross and Annika Hofstetter; Miss Scarlett, played by Olivia Ammon and Tori Beiler; Professor Plum, played by Caleb Waters and Nick Ammon; Mrs. White, played by Julia Shaubach and Maddie Heverin; Mr. Green, played by Jared Knepp; Mrs. Peacock, played by Celeste Huyard and Maddy Clark; and Colonel Mustard, played by Peter Brumbach. The show is based on the classic board game, where everyone becomes a suspect while simultaneously scrambling to figure out who did it.
