Donations Sought For New Addiction Treatment Facility By Dayna M. Reidenouer
“Lancaster County does not have a (drug addiction treatment) facility for disadvantaged people,” said Dave Cope, president/CEO of Recovery Works Inc., which is working to change this by building an 80-bed treatment facility. Recovery Works was incorporated in September 2018 and was granted nonprofit status in August 2019. A Lancaster-Lebanon SCORE mentor assisted in that process. If all goes well, the new facility could receive its state license and be open within 16 months. “It’s a very detailed process to get a license to provide drug and alcohol treatment … a major undertaking,” Cope remarked. “But what is motivating us is nearly 70,000 people (nationwide) die of overdoses (annually). Pennsylvania is near the top of the list. It doesn’t show any signs of lessening, and during COVID, it got worse.” The planned facility will be open to anyone, regardless of gender or ability to pay. Recovery Works will take Medicaid clients and those without insurance, and walk-ins will be welcome. “One of the largest deterrents of seeking help is (not having insurance),” Cope explained. “Rehab is a frightening, painful experience, so it’s hard to get (addicts) to go. Removing as many roadblocks as we can is important to get them into treatment.” The facade for the new Recovery Works drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility slated for See Recovery Works pg 2 construction in southern Lancaster County will be patterned off an old mill in York County.

postponed or delayed a funeral. I left it up to the families and accommodated (the circumstances) as best as we could.” Scheid credited the death of her father from a fall off his home’s roof on March 13 with changing her perspective. “It’s made me look at funerals completely differently than I did as a professional prior to that,” Scheid said. “It softened me a lot.” Scheid owns three funeral homes in Lancaster and Lebanon counties. In March, all of her staff members took continuing education classes on COVID-19 and embalming. The company’s first client who was positive for the coronavirus arrived during the last full week of March. “It was a completely different feel for me as a funeral director to have my first COVID patient,” Scheid recalled. “The husband was in quarantine, so we waited until he got out so we could have the funeral.” See Funeral Director pg 5
Contest Invites Sewists To “Make It With Wool” By Dayna M. Reidenouer
The majority of the bolts in a typical fabric store will be filled with natural fibers like cotton or manufactured fibers like polyester. However, there is usually at least one section dedicated to wool, and garments made from those fabrics are the focus of the annual Make It With Wool contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool Growers Association. The contest is designed to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics and yarns. “Wool is a wonderful fiber to work with,” said director Linda Siegel of Lebanon. “You can steam and mold it into shape.” She noted that wool fabric is not always derived from See Make It With Wool pg 2 Cara Weil of Lancaster placed second in adult division in the state Make It With Wool contest last year. The deadline to enter the 2020 event is Sept. 4.

sheep’s wool, and it can be used for more than heavy winter coats. “I enjoy finding lightweight wools I can wear year-round,” Linda said. “I made a light wool crepe black dress that I can wear with sandals in the summer and feel comfortable.” Linda entered the Make It With Wool contest for the first time as a 4-H member in 1972. She still has the suit made from fabric striped with acid blue, teal green, and cream. “There was a lot of competition,” she recalled. “A lot of people were sewing in the ’70s.” Home sewing has declined in popularity since then, but it is seeing a resurgence. Linda has been actively promoting sewing by serving as a 4-H leader for the past two decades. Additionally, she has encouraged the sewing passion of her daughter, Rachel. In about 2002 at age 13, Rachel won the state 4-H fashion revue with a Melton wool coat and subtly striped pants and then won the state Make It With Wool contest with the same outfit. That
made Rachel eligible to compete at the national Make It With Wool event. “She didn’t place there, but she learned,” Linda said. “From then on, she sewed with wool in 4-H and challenged herself.” Before she turned 25 and matriculated into the adult age division, Rachel competed at the national event seven times. As an adult, she has had one outfit win and two others place. “Rachel got to see a lot of the country that way,” Linda said. “Sometimes she knew who the judges were, like the year she was in the elevator with (television sewing instructor) Sandra Betzina and (couture sewing expert) Claire Shaeffer was a judge.” At least six of Linda’s 4-H students have competed nationally, and she has been a state winner twice. She accepted the position of state director this year after the previous director, Tammy Hemmerly, moved to Florida. “I enjoy organizing things (and) helping people learn new things. I hope I can get more people interested in
working with wool,” Linda commented, adding that she hopes to get more youths involved. “I encourage people to try it, even if it’s just a simple skirt or a knitted garment that makes them happy,” Linda commented. “Don’t choose (a pattern) beyond your skill level. Start with what you’ve made (before) and add a few new skills.” Linda recommended buying good-quality fabric that is more forgiving, such as flannel or a light or medium tweed, in colors that the sewist enjoys or complements their skin tone. Fasteners should be appropriate - e.g., an invisible zipper is most likely not appropriate for a heavier wool - and the seams should have some kind of finish. To avoid creating a shine on the fabric, always use a press cloth. Towels wrapped around rolled-up newspapers can be used in place of a sleeve roll when pressing curved portions of a garment. The contest is open to anyone age 8 and older. All participants must select, construct, and model their own garments unless

Recovery Works from pg 1 Recovery Works will offer a 90-day inpatient rehab program, which will include detox and medically assisted treatment, as well as a follow-up recovery house program, where clients can transition back into society. Cope said the organization hopes to start a job placement service for people in recovery and to provide job training through other local organizations. “It’s important to help them get back into the community,” he added. “We don’t want to serve just one part of the needs they have.” The program planning process has been led by Recovery Works vice president William Charles “Charlie” Folks, LCSW, who had a 47-year career at Eagleville Hospital, a 305-bed, independent, nonprofit addictions and behavioral health treatment and educational organization in Montgomery County. Folks is well connected in
the addiction and recovery community in Lancaster County. Other treatment agencies in the area have been consulted as well. “We get a lot of good affirmation from them,” Cope said. “That’s been very encouraging to have that support.” Before all that can happen, however, the facility needs to be built. Recovery Works has purchased a bucolic 7-acre property in Providence Township that has the necessary zoning. The preliminary work to begin construction is nearing completion. To break ground, Recovery Works needs to raise $3 million to cover the project’s cost. Cope noted that Community First Fund will lend the money, but it requires a 20% cash equity. The goal is to raise $600,000 within three months. “We’re hoping we can find 600 people who can write a $1,000 check,” he commented. Contributions of any size are

welcome, and investment opportunities are available as well. Income from the rental of a business on the property will be used to pay interest to investors, Cope said, adding, “We would love to fund everything by gifts, but we have to look at every opportunity to raise funds that we can.” While Recovery Works is not affiliated with any church group or religious organization, much of its philosophy is faith-based, and support from churches is welcome. Local couple Linda and Philip Malin has been photographing local furry and feathered family members for 30 years. However, the coronavirus pandemic challenged their business, which involved pet photography home visits and pet portrait events at local pet stores. They had to find a way to survive this crisis, so Linda came up with the idea to put pet photos on masks. During the COVID-19 shutdown, the Steinman Foundation wanted to respond to the needs of the community. One way the organization chose to do that was to focus on mental health, with a goal of making sure community residents felt supported in unprecedented times.
The foundation reached out to Mental Health America of Lancaster County (MHALC) to bring a Community Mental Health Assistance Plan (CMAP) to local workers. “They partnered with us because we had relationships with service providers and we’re able to support individuals beyond the project,” said Kim McDevitt, executive director of

Lancaster County residents who are in need of professional support may call MHALC at 717-397-7461 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for an intake form. “You will talk to one of our navigators who will help you identify a therapist,” said McDevitt. Thompson will recommend a therapist, and CMAP will provide three free confidential counseling sessions. The client will call the provider for an appointment, but MHALC will send out a resource packet to the client and follow up to provide additional support as needed. Thompson said that if the client wishes to continue after three sessions, she has a list of insurances the providers will accept. “If they don’t have insurance, we are partnering with Lancaster Osteopathic Health for their copay assistance program,” said Thompson. “That information is included in the resource packet I send out.” According to Thompson, more than 30% of people in the United States experience anxiety on a regular basis, ranging from fear of insects to extreme social anxiety. She noted that anxiety and depression are common responses to a pandemic, but isolation during a season when people are used to being outdoors with others compounds those issues. “We can’t function on a typical seasonal level,” Thompson said. “A lot of parents don’t know how to handle the financial aspect of going back to work and (supporting their children’s schooling). There are a lot of questions.” The partnership has set a goal of helping to alleviate these issues by providing professional support to those workers in need. “Having someone outside your family to talk to can help,” said Thompson. Readers who want to know more about the program may visit https://mhalancaster.org/our -programs/cmap-essential-workers.

MHALC. MHALC turned to Philhaven/WellSpan as a consultant. “ WellSpan runs an Employee Assistance Program (EAP),” explained McDevitt, who added that the organization provided a lot of guidance in the best way to execute the plan, especially emphasizing that less than a quarter of each patient’s session should be spent on paperwork. “We wanted it devoted to getting to the (patient’s) story,” said McDevitt. “We want people to feel comfortable and to walk away with some tools, skills, and ideas on how to move forward with the angst or fear that they have.” MHALC hired Caryn Thompson to be the project coordinator. In early May, she began researching the best way to implement the program, amassing a list of nearly 70 providers, which was reduced to 10 providers based on grant applications. The final list represents a variety, from groups to individuals, with providers that offer bilingual services, those who focus on seniors, one whose specialty is the Plain population, and more. “We wanted to make sure we (reached) everybody in the county,” Thompson said. By early June, Thompson was holding online training sessions for the providers to let them know what was expected and to explain the documentation they needed to complete so that MHALC will have the demographic information needed to continue the program. McDevitt explained that the program is designed as an approach to the increase in anxiety, depression, and other fearrelated behaviors associated with the shutdown. “We have seen an increase in police calls, and crisis outreach is starting to tick up now,” she said.

A myth claiming that anyone who dies with COVID-19 must be buried immediately or cremated has been popularized. “No, you don’t have to (rush),” Scheid said, noting that the process is generally the same but includes more precautions and greater quantities of disinfectant. To ensure attendees’ safety at funerary events, Scheid adopted an “invitation only” policy and did not publish service times. This allowed families to control the guest list. Additionally, rather than gathering attendees into a building for a memorial, services were held graveside, with guests socially distanced. Some families opted to livestream services to enable people to attend from the safety of their homes. Even with the move to the green phase of reopening, attendance has not rebounded. “If (someone was) just a casual friend, they aren’t coming as often,” Scheid said. In addition to decreased attendance, the traditional funeral home service has fallen out of vogue, and funeral lunches have been suspended. “They had nowhere to go (because restaurants were closed),” Scheid said. “Some people went back to the
house, and some were even afraid to do that. One family got creative and went to the pavilion at Millersville Park.” Scheid asserted that the funeral industry has been forever impacted by the coronavirusrelated shutdown, although it has always been a changing industry. Funeral directors have been personally affected, too. “We’re people-oriented. It was so hard not to hug people and get close to them,” she commented. “ One aspect of the funeral industry has bounced back. After pre-need planning took a backseat in March, the phones began to ring again in May. All funeral homes offer preplanning, Scheid said, but even if individuals do not do official preplanning with a funeral home, it is a good idea to write down their wishes. The average age for preplanning is 75, as it is often associated with going into a nursing home or spending down assets for Medicaid. The best time to prepay is between ages 50 and 60, as it provides the best return on the investment, she said. “It’s the only industry where you can pay for something in 2020 prices and not use it until
2040. There’s a benefit to prepaying. You’re not just handing out money,” Scheid said, adding, “It’s very important for people to understand, no matter who you preplan or prepay with, it’s always transferrable, even if you move to California.” Scheid remarked on a surprising quirk regarding preplanning. “It’s amazing how many people put off (planning for) the funeral, but they’re buying burial plots and picking out their headstones. Meanwhile, the funeral is more expensive than both of them,” she said. “The baby boomers should have done it or have thought about it by now.” Prepayment is backed by final death insurance and bonded by an insurance company. “Legally, the only person who can get money out (of the policy) is the funeral director who buries them,” Scheid explained. “If you outlive your funeral director, you can always take it to someone else.” To find a licensed professional funeral director and access consumer information, readers may visit www.pfda.org, the website for the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association.
The Junkluggers Opens For Business reusable waste from landfills by the year 2025. The Junkluggers of Berks, Chester and Lancaster is the second franchise located in Pennsylvania. Mochon decided to bring the business to his local area, as he has been a resident of Chester and Berks counties for the past 18 years. He said he believes the Junkluggers will bring a positive impact to the area as he develops relationships with local non-for-profit organizations that can benefit from gently used items that need a second home. The Junkluggers offers donation receipts and launched the Remix Market, a sister company to some of the Junkluggers franchishes, as a

Outdoor exercise is encouraged during COVID-19 restrictions as a way to stay healthy and positive and maybe even increase defenses against disease. Benefits of exercise may include lower cholesterol and blood pressure, while improving strength, balance, and coordination. Social distancing is usually easier when exercising outside, as well. Kristen Holloway, founder of the Facebook page “Day Hikes of Lancaster County PA,” has always been a hiker. During the pandemic, she has been trying to hike at least weekly alone and with family members. “When I lived in San Diego, I found this book of day hikes of San Diego County,” said Holloway, who set herself a goal of visiting all the trails in the book while she lived there. After returning to her native Lancaster County, Holloway decided a Facebook page could offer other avid hikers the same kind of information she had found in the book - trails that offer beautiful scenery along

with varying degrees of difficulty. “I knew there were all these great hikes, but I knew there were some I didn’t know about,” said Holloway. “I was looking for one place that had all the good hikes, so I wanted to put something together so that people would know what’s out there.” Trails that are good for a variety of activities include the Enola Low Grade Trail, which can be accessed from a number of points in the county - the Turkey Hill Trail Head in Manor Township, Sigman Road in Pequea Township, and Fairview Road in Strasburg Township. The trail has a crushed stone surface and is a favorite of walkers. The White Cliffs of Conoy in Marietta are located along the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail, which can be accessed from Columbia, Marietta, or Bainbridge. Holloway said it is a paved trail often used for running and biking in addition to hiking. The trail, which runs along the Susquehanna River, features some abandoned buildings and the cliffs, actually remnants of a limestone quarry.

LUMINA Ministries provided the monies for this giveaway. As each car was loaded with a 40-pound box of free food, an Optimist member asked if there were children in the family. If so, the family was given a bag of activities for each child. Plans are underway to provide another group of activity bags in August.

many have put social distancing measures in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Still, it is good practice to take one’s own precautions to help keep oneself and others nearby safe. People can have fun and stay healthy with three essential travel tips from Bernadette Judge, R.N. First, it is important to plan ahead. Second, everyone should

beware of high-touch surfaces. Third, vacationers should take it slow and stay safe. If traveling by car, vacationers can reduce their risk for exposure by planning ahead. The route can be mapped out in advance to avoid any unnecessary stops. Lodging should be secured before leaving to avoid getting to a city that has not fully reopened and therefore may not offer many places to stay. Runs to the store should be avoided as much as possible by stocking up on essentials like water, nonperishable foods, medicine, hand sanitizer, and disinfecting supplies. People should always travel with a mask as many establishments require them. Whether staying in an economy hotel or luxury resort, anyone can be asymptomatic and unknowingly contaminate hightraffic areas. Frequently handled surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, sinks, faucets, and toilets should be touched as little as
possible. These carry a greater risk of contamination. When at a restaurant, hands should be washed before and after eating and sanitized after touching any surface. Also, common areas like pools and gyms should be disinfected whenever possible. As much as people want to hit the road and make up for months of staying at home, it is important to take it slow. Taking on too much can wear bodies down and compromise immune systems. It is important to listen to one’s body and get plenty of rest. Additionally, while having fun, people should not get too comfortable and forget to stay safe. Good hygiene and social distancing should always be practiced. Hands should be washed frequently, masks should be worn when appropriate, and people should try to stay at least six feet apart whenever possible. Above all, people should never travel if they or anyone in their family is sick.
Local Counties Recognized For Generosity

in Lancaster city on June 30. The club supports these four shelters throughout the year. Recipients included the Transitional Living Center (TLC), Clare House and Milagro House. The activity bags were the result of many weeks of work by the local club members and friends. Each bag contained a book, arts and craft items and physical activity items. Many groups provided items for inclusion in the bags. Art of Recycle in Ephrata,
Financial technology company SmartAsset recently released the results of a study it conducted to identify the Pennsylvania counties where residents are donating the most. To find the most generous places, the study measured how much money people in each county donated as a percentage of their income, as well as the proportion of people in a given county making charitable donations. Chester, Lancaster, and York counties were among those included in the resulting list of the most generous counties in Pennsylvania. Chester County took the top spot, with Lancaster County taking fifth and York County placing 10th. To determine the amount of money that people donate as a percentage of their income, SmartAsset first calculated the total net income of all people in each county. To do this, the company used tax return data and
accounted for federal, state, and local taxes paid. Researchers also accounted for deductible entries, including mortgage interest, mortgage points, and mortgage insurance payments. They then divided each county’s total charitable donations by its total net income to see how much county residents are donating relative to their income. Next, SmartAsset divided the total number of tax returns with charitable contributions by the number of total tax returns for each county. This step gave researchers the proportion of people in each county who make charitable donations. The two factors were then indexed and equally weighted to yield the most charitable places index. For more information on the study and methodology, readers may visit https://smartadvisor match.com/data/most-generous -counties-2019/pennsylvania.

“It’s a pretty overlook with the white cliffs, and you’re walking along the railroad tracks, which is kind of cool,” said Holloway. For short hikes, Holloway recommends Ray’s Woods, 44 Laurel Drive, Holtwood, and the Farmingdale Trail in Noel Dorwart Memorial Park, 408 Parklawn Court, Lancaster. For more moderately challenging hikes, Holloway recommends the loop at Steinman Run Nature Preserve, 215 Stump Road, Pequea, and combining trails at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, 100 Museum Road, Stevens, where she has spent up to three hours hiking. Because Holloway lives in Penn Manor School District, many of the trails she has discussed on the page are in that area. For a good workout, she heads to Kelly’s Run Nature Preserve, reporting that that the trail is a loop of nearly 4 miles with hilly terrain. Kelly’s Run can be found at 199 Street Road, T397, Holtwood. Holloway said that hiking has been a family tradition. “My parents took us hiking a lot as kids,” she shared. “It’s fun, but it’s a good way to get exercise.” W hen Holloway hikes with her children, she likes to visit the Lancaster Conservancy Trout Run Nature Preserve, 215 Stump Road, Pequea (Holtwood). “Trout Run is great for those who like to play in the water,” she said. For green and shady hikes, Holloway recommends Lancaster Conservancy’s Climbers Run Nature Preserve, located off Frogtown Road, Pequea. Other scenic trails on Holloway’s list include Shenk’s Ferry Wildflower Preserve, 857 Green Hill Road South, Conestoga, in Martic Township and House Rock Nature Preserve, 370 House Rock Road, Pequea. Holloway appreciates the beauty of the outdoors during solitary ventures. “I like to hike by myself,” she said. “It’s meditative, so it’s time to be in my thoughts and be in nature. You take more in when you’re by yourself.” The Facebook page Holloway founded allows her to combine her interests in hiking and photography. “I have a list of 25 more hikes to investigate that aren’t on the page (yet),” she noted. For those who are averse to the summer heat and crowded trails, she recommends hiking in the early mornings before the sun is high and the parking lots fill up.

Friends In Action (FIA) International, a nonprofit organization located in Middletown, recently partnered with pastors in Bolivia to provide COVID-19 relief to indigenous people groups. Aid has included medical care, medical supplies and food. FIA uses infrastructure projects as a platform to share the Gospel with unreached indigenous people groups. Recent projects aided residents of the hundreds of tiny villages along the coasts of the Amazon River, which are especially vulnerable to COVID-19. For most of the villagers, their town hospital has only 35 beds and one ventilator and is a multiple-day journey by boat and on foot. Additionally, some villagers travel two days from their remote locations to find medicines such as acetaminophen. FIA’s field leaders, Donna and Gary Ferch, reported that close to 90% of FIA’s co-workers in the area have contracted the virus. One of the pastors participating in the relief efforts was pastor Saul. Wearing his mask and gloves, Saul began knocking on doors and distributing food and medical supplies funded in part by FIA donors. Going door-to-door to indigenous populations in the small towns and villages near Guayaramerin, Saul shared the Gospel and prayed with many villagers who already had COVID-19 and others who were afraid of catching it. Saul later contracted COVID-19 and experienced complications from the virus and diabetes. Among FIA’s efforts in Bolivia is El Misionero, a riverboat used to take medical personnel and the Gospel into unreached villages accessible only by the Amazon River. FIA began building the boat more
than a decade ago, and each year, doctors, nurses, and dentists volunteer to treat more than 1,100 villagers for dewormings, prenatal care, minor surgeries, and vision and dental needs using the boat. One helper who worked on the boat was Medardo Rodriguez Dorado. Dorado championed the medical ministry for years by removing rotten wood, milling new timbers, and repairing the boat so it could be sailed it farther into the Amazon jungle to reach additional villagers. Dorado was well-known by other villagers for being proficient with a chainsaw. He and his wife contracted COVID-19, and Medardo died from the disease in early June. FIA sent funds to help to provide food and medical care for Medardo’s widow and other widows. El Misionero’s first captain, pastor Manuel Bravo, also contracted COVID-19. Bravo is a national pioneer missionary who has also served as ministry outreach director partnering with FIA and an organization of seven evangelical Bible churches in Guayaramerin. Though in a high-risk category, he began moving toward recovery as a result of treatments provided by a team of volunteer doctors and nurses from El Misionero using medicines and intravenous therapy funded by donors to FIA. As the need is great, several churches and individuals have agreed to provide matching funds for donations up to $7,500. To donate before Saturday, Aug. 15, readers may visit www.fiaintl.org and select Bolivia Where Needed Most. Gifts will be used to provide intraveous therapy, breathing treatments, and medicine for those who are sick, as well as rice and beans for grieving families.

Harper Chase was the state runner-up in her age group.
Library Friends Plan Big Book Sale The Friends of the Lancaster Public Library will host their 65th annual Big Book Sale from Monday to Wednesday, Aug. 10 to 12, at the former Bon Ton site at Park City Center, 600 Park City Center, Lancaster. The book sale will be open on Aug. 10 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Aug. 12, items will be half-price. Payment with a credit card is available, parking is free, and the mall offers various on-site eating options. The sale will be in a new location this year, but the prices and the large inventory will remain the same. Customers will find more than 250,000 used books plus thousands of other items including vinyl records, sheet music, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs. Individually priced books, including collectible and current fiction and nonfiction, will be for sale. The health and safety of
customers and volunteers are of highest importance; therefore, the Friends are following Pennsylvania mandates. Face masks or face shields must be worn at all times, and social distancing will be in effect. Public restrooms and drinking fountains will not be available in the former Bon Ton site, but customers will find comfort facilities a few steps away inside the mall. Customers are asked to postpone their shopping trip if they are feeling unwell or if they have recently traveled to any states on the Pennsylvania travel quarantine list. Volunteers are sought for the sale. On Sunday, Aug. 9, between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., volunteers are needed to set up tables, put up signs, and unpack boxes of books. Volunteers should enter via the doors on the east side of the building, near TGI Friday’s. In addition, volunteers are needed on Aug. 12 beginning at 6 p.m. to help with cleanup. The
Friends and volunteers must remove everything from the facility, including unsold books, tables, and signs. Volunteers must be over the age of 14. Volunteers do not need to sign up for a date and time. They may simply arrive when they are able to help. For more information and to express interest in volunteering, readers may call 717-898-1560 or email redrosebooks@aol.com. Masks or face shields are required for all volunteers. Mary Armstrong is again the chair of the book sale. Sixty-five years ago, the first Friends of Lancaster Public Library book sale raised $154. The Friends now raise nearly $200,000 annually by holding book sales, hosting fundraisers, and operating two used book stores. Proceeds from the Friends’ efforts directly benefit Lancaster Public Library and its patrons. For more information, readers may visit www.lancaster publiclibrary.org/library-friends.

Virtual Garden Tour To Feature Local Inns Inns, bed-and-breakfasts and boutique hotels across the country have recently launched an “Inn to Inn” virtual garden tour. Forty-two inns have pulled together to create a set of e-books that can be downloaded for free inspiration, a virtual pick-me-up or an in-person discount. Arranged as a trio and dividing the participating inns into three regions, each book tells the story of the various gardens with hundreds of links to visuals and discounts. The regions include Northeast; Southern; and West, Midwest and Abroad, which includes Canada and Italy. A list local of properties participating in the Inn to Inn garden tour in the Northeast region are Wild Wisteria Bed and Breakfast, Chadds Ford; Historic Smithton Inn, Ephrata; Twin Pine Manor B&B, Ephrata; Carriage Corner Bed & Breakfast, Intercourse; King’s Cottage Bed and Breakfast, Lancaster; Brownstone Colonial Inn, Reinholds; and The Artist’s Inn and Gallery, Terre Hill. All of the participating properties are part of Still Inn Business, a preparedness campaign that launched this spring to help innkeepers stay visible in travel media and sustain industry optimism. The pro bono campaign has more than 300 members. For complete details, readers may visit www.prlog.org and search for “Inns Across the U.S. and Beyond Launch Virtual Garden Tour With Offline Discounts to Lure Travelers.”
