Southern End moms stick together hen Aubrie Fry of Christiana was pregnant with her son, she attended a Lititz Stroller Gang meeting with her friend Becca Leboon. The group comprises mothers from across the county who regularly gather to go for a walk and exchange mother-tomother support. Fry loved the idea, but she realized there was no equivalent to the Lititz Stroller Gang in the Southern End. In the months following the birth of her son, Fry found herself struggling with postpartum challenges, and she decided it was time for the Southern End to have its own support group for mothers. Fry reached out to Leboon and a few other friends to help with the logistics of creating the group and setting up its Facebook page. Fry also reached out to the leader of the Lititz Stroller Gang for advice. “She told me that if it was something God led me to, then people would show up,” Fry said.

Fry and her friends held their first meeting last July, calling themselves the Southern End Strollers. The group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m., and the location the meetings alternates to include

The moms rotate through a list of parks that includes Daniel’s Den in Central Manor, Jaycee Park in Strasburg and Huffnagle Park in Quarryville. The location is coordinated by the Southern End Strollers’ members via the group’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Since its first meeting, the Southern End Strollers’ number of members has been steadily

increasing; the weekly walks are now attended by twice as many mothers as they were in July, and the Facebook group has grown to include more than 140 members. In addition to selecting the location, the Southern End Strollers’ social media features a member every week. The mom of the week is encouraged to share her story, favorite aspect of motherhood and her favorite Bible verse. “It’s important to have an outlet like this. It’s vital to have people in the same season of life as you for advice and encouragement and to know you’re not alone,” Fry said. Members of the group support each other through challenges such as miscarriages and infertility, offering words of encouragement and prayer to struggling mothers. The members also bounce ideas off one another on topics that include the best way to handle a toddler’s tantrum or successful methods of treating a child’s rash. In July 2022, Zac Bauermaster of Quarryville published a 40-day devotional and leadership guide, titled “Leading With a Humble Heart.” Although this was his first time publishing a book, Bauermaster is no stranger to filling leadership roles; for over a decade, the veteran educator has worked as a school administrator across Solanco, Warwick and Manheim Central school districts. In October 2023, Bauermaster published his second book: “Leading With PEOPLE: A Six Pillar Framework for

The opening details how to lay a foundation for successful leadership through Christian faith, followed by six chapters. Each chapter focuses on one of six concepts that Bauermaster defines as essential to leading others: prioritizing people, empathizing with them, observing their needs, praying for them, loving them and encouraging them. “(Each book) is similar in the sense that they contain lots of personal stories, some humor and my own struggles,” Bauermaster said. “I tie that in with Scripture, but ultimately I focus on how people can apply it to their lives.”

required Krueger to move it to a larger location, and it is now held at the Farm and Home Center annually. “Of course, you always have the folks who just want to support the shelters, both of which do a lot for the community,” Krueger said. “But people also come for a really good shopping experience. I pride myself on having a huge variety of vendors every year.” Furever Home is a no-kill, cage-free animal rescue located in East Petersburg. Although its facility can only house cats, the organization partners with local dog shelters to assist those who are looking to rehome their dogs. The Pet Pantry, located on Millersville Road in Lancaster, offers services such as emergency pet food assistance, spaying and neutering and accessible veterinary care. Since the Pet Pantry opened its doors over a decade ago, the organization has found homes in the community for more than 450

the fair’s participating vendors, local businesses and individuals throughout the community. Gift cards, gift baskets and pet-related goods will be among the prizes given out during the drawing. The shopping fair was started by Tina Krueger, who volunteers at both Furever Home and Pet Pantry. When Krueger initially became involved with Furever Home, the shelter did not have anyone to manage its fundraising operations. Due to the combination of Krueger’s professional background in marketing and her love for animals, she volunteered immediately and started to plan the first shopping fair. “I felt I had good resources and connections because of my background, plus it kept me out of the shelters so I didn’t take all the animals home,” Krueger said. At first, the fair was held at Four Seasons Golf Club. The event’s immediate success and sustained growth

Bauermaster began to work on “Leading With PEOPLE” before the ink had even dried on the pages of his authorial debut. Bauermaster said the idea for his six-pillar leadership framework came to him while he was on the couch with his family and watching TV; he grabbed a pen and the nearest writable surface - which happened to be a cardboard box - and jotted down his thoughts. He continued to refine the concept over the next year and completed the book this past summer. “I received a lot of great feedback from the first book, not even just from other educators but the local community as well. That really helped me work on the next one,” Bauermaster said. Bauermaster is a Quarryville native and a graduate of Solanco High School. He officially returned to the area last Decem-
