The commitment to nurturing new opera talent is a vital part of our work. ENO Harewood Artists provides training and support for singers at the beginning of their professional careers, giving them an opportunity to develop and learn as they take on roles. The carefully-structured programme of training includes vocal and language coaching, work with distinguished exponents of their repertoire and access to a performance psychologist. The programme forges long-term links between the artists and ENO, and previous members have gone on to develop international careers while remaining in close contact with the company.

Production support
Supported by the English Opera Group and a special production support syndicate. Devised and directed by Director in Residence Peter Sellars, the rich and transcendent score of Purcell’s final unfinished opera is reworked for a new co-production with Perm State Opera and Teatro Real, Madrid. The new retelling recounts the initial confrontation between Europeans and the Mayans of the New World through a personal account from the female perspective, which Sellars has based on The Lost Chronicles of Terra Firma by Nicaraguan author Rosario Aguilar. Led by baroque specialist Laurence Cummings this new production is set to the stunning backdrop of set designs from LA-based graffiti artist, Gronk and stars exceptional young soprano Julia Bullock, for whom Sellars created the role, and leading British lyric soprano Lucy Crowe.
