eu VI na PAISAGEM uma VIAGEM num PAIS onde as pessoas AGEM “Paisviagem - unstable landscapes” comes from an analysis at multiple levels of the Paranà state coast, in southern Brazil, paying more attention to the Bay of Paranaguà. Through a comparative analysis of all the factors characterizing the territory, we have come to define a new economic, tourist, historical and natural hub with different vocation than those already existing: Guaraqueçaba and its landscapes. The analysis of the individual cases highlighted the lack of organization, management, promotion of the city and surrounding areas in the north bay, whose tourism potential is still unexplored. Guaraqueçaba becomes the center, place of landing and departure of a new infrastructural network, in order to discover the natural wonders and pristine the northern bay. The coastline becomes the main theme of the project reflection. The coast is considered as a harmonious interaction which constantly changes in a visual, material, functional, interactive, dynamic and sustainable point of view, modifying also the relationship between human action on the territory, that of the sea with its tides, and finally, the land with its vegetation. The re-connection of the city to the rest of the region is realized through the integration of the existing infrastructural network and the re-definition project of the city and, specifically, of its waterfront, aiming to turn it into a tourist niche hub, with concentration of ecological paths throughout the area of the town hall. And then, to re-connect the surrounding area, the installation of micro-architectures facilitates the territory discover and ìvisit. These small architectural interventions, structures made of local materials and traditional techniques, are designed to create a connection with the sorrounding territory, creating a new landscape of the existing landscape.

‘20 - ‘80 The region became one of the most important production and exportation spot for rise, sugar, mandioca, banana, coffee, beans. The first “fazendas” were built with the slave trade coming from Africa.
before 1500 The Paranà State was populated by native ethnic group as tupi-guaranis, cainganguanes and xoclengues.

BRAZIL INDEPENDENCE
‘30 - ‘40 European immigrants, mainly Swiss, built an agricultural colony on the Superagui island. At the same time is built the Graciosa road (Curitiba – Antonina) and the railway (Curitiba – Paranaguá), favoring the transportation. Because of that maritime and waterway transportation became very expensive. Native groups moved to north.
XXI ‘70 From the 70s , the population starts moving toward Paranaguá: farmers sell their land for very low prices and abandon farming. Many are forced off their land, because becomes very hard to compete to large companies that settled the region.

PARTECIPATION Partecipation is the key word for a contemporary project. Interacting with people, listening their opinion, understanding the hidden mechanisms is the base to immerse themselves in the context and modulate the intervention in the best way. Here are the results of the survey done in Guaraqueçaba.
The first step of an urban analisys is the direct knowlegde of the area. Exploration let the user be in touch with the place and its nature, identify personal sensations and formulate opinions.

CONNECTION AS MAIN STRATEGY LANDSCAPE AS LINKING INSTRUMENT
The project strategy is the connection between natural elements, through the architecture instruments that aim to diminish the level differences. Those different levels cause, nowadays, a clear fence sea-land.
GRADUAL SLOPE THE MAIN PROJECT INSTRUMENT
The harmony created by the gradual slope let the different natural elements meet more easily. The design instrument is therefore an inclinated platform that changes materials in order to define different functions.

Diving in the bay to watch the coast from another perspective. The first micro-architecture is designed to allow tourists to observe the rare species of dolphins Sotalia Guianensis in direct contact with their habitat, which in summer is easy to spot. Dragging on a canoe up the floating platform fixed let the tourists live in a new perspective the coast, surrounded by water 360 °. In this way it is easier for humans to come in contact with this animal specie that have elected this area in their home.

Rising above the coastline in order to observe the changing nature, this is the meaning of the second strucutre. The tower for birdwatching offers a chance to see closer the specie of red head parrotsliving in the bay, but also a new point of view to see how the sea and land interact and start to draw a new coastline. Thought as fully open, the tower allows a 360 ° view across the landscape. In the various phase of the tidal cycle, the route to reach will appear in a different way, emerging from the water or leaning directly on the ground.

Cross the coastline is the third action, passing several times from the element water to the land, alternating the sight of one and then the other to find the synthesis in the mediation. The visitors cross physically the thickness of the coastline, making their way through red mangroves, a species found only in this part of Brazil and in Florida. The mangrove is the perfect rappresentation of the mutability of the coast, sometimes submerged, sometimes it seems to walk on water. The concentration of plains tide is high.

Protecting the landscape, preserving the natural design of the coastline, preserving the traces of history. The Sambaquis are deposits of organic material and limestone. For the native tribes, they were a sanctuary. Today, those archaeological finds are to sea erosion and wind, threatening to disappear if not protected. In Ilha das Peças there are the oldest Sambaquis of southern Brazil. The importance of these archaeological monuments is related to the possibility to affirm for example, the human presence in the area for thousands of years.
