Ho capito perchè ho scelto architettura in questi giorni. During these days I began to understand why I’ve choosen architecture school. For the same reason why I breathe, the others. I love people and my life concerns them. In the subway it’s great giving a smile to unknown people and see how much they appreciate it, smiling in return and turning, simply embarassed, but with happiness in their eyes. I want to create spaces where people can live, interact, share, without loosing the real meaning of word “life”.

project description A discontinuity point. Such is the role of the city block santiago between calle la marcedes, one of the busiestcalle street rodriguez of the Colonial City, and calle santiago rodriguez. The original urban grid ends in the middle of the block and starts again in the following northern block. Because post modernist interventions made impossibile to recreate calle santiago the old path unshapping rodriguezthe “manzana, the project’s choice is to emphasize these characteristics turning them into advantages. The crack prototype explores the opportunity of the available space despite its complexity calle santiago rodriguez and limited size. Through digging, more space is created underground wherease the use of a flexible structure, made of horizontal beams, will avoid the collapse of the core, and add a provisional nature to it: eventually in ten years time the gap could be completely filled in order to answer the demand of a different contemporaneity. The architecture inside the crack is a system of ramps calle la mercedes hosting public spaces but also car storage making their coexistence possible. The public plaza ideally reproduces the urban grid through a loop movement taking people throughout a cinema, an arena, an open-air art gallery, a cafeteria and several shops. The cars instead have a different accessibility system that crosses the block in the opposite way (W-E) that develops below until 12 meters under the public plaza.

project description The workshop concentrated on 9 characteristic block conditions within the Colonial City. Through a series of plan 9 architectural interventions within this area the students attempted to develop architecture that positions itself between autonomy and locality. The complexity of the location, strongly affected by geography, climate, history, economy, politics and power challenged students to define a suitable architectural language. The goal of the workshop was to come up with a series of critical prototypes for various contemporary programs architecturally articulated through to be able to position themselves within the dense context of Santo Domingo. section

project description The 3R-house works on three aspects of human relationships: friendship, family relation and private. every floor is thought in order to satisfy the relation requests. The first floor is comprised of a self standing apartment, that can also be used as a studio. Going up, from external stairs, there is a main appartment, with shared space for the family, from living room to kitchen, organised as open space. last floor, accessible only from interior stairs, there is the most private area, the bed rooms and the zen garden. it represents the heart of the project. Furniture is all arranged following feng-shui rules.

project description The Darsena area is a filter between the city center and the suburbs to the south. There are different discontinuity points, as confirmed by the analysis results. The strategy choosen is “the connection, realized parallel with four cycle-pedonal circuits, three green bands and three bridges, that work as physical connectors between the two areas. In this way the area is divided into smaller zones, each of which is strongly characterized by a specific function. The idea to create single attractive points seems to be the most appropriate. All the single points are so well characterized to be completely self-standing.

Kekedala Masterplan PROAP - arquitectura paisagista kekedala - china - november 2013

Lighting is a fundamental process both for assuring optimal safety levels and to enhance scenic beauty and the quality of experiencing the reality. lighting is also a powerful referential tool, providing excellent information complements. The overall proposal is based on a light-on-demand concept both in terms of referring movement and intensity of use - movement of people walking or running or cycling is noticed and accompanied by light, in different intensity according to the numbers of users and the speed they move. This process produces a spectacle on its own: it adds a flow of light. The hierarchy of pathways are referenced by intensity and tone of light. At the entrances and the plazas a LED system is applied so that intensity and colors are controlled actively or, again, by a light-on-demand programming. Built and open-air areas close to the water are marked as very bright spots in order to emphasize their own role in the paths, attraction points. Paths and bridges on the water, and the water itself, are also referred as fundamental features at night, through colors, intensity, reflection effects.

0m

The moon landmark, with the circular water fountain where it is set, is the main light point. It reproduced the moon phases through the use of a LED system placed in the inner arc. In addition the water fountains are lighted by small spots organized in an apparent random design, but that follow the geometry of the steps.
