Basic Pizza Dough Recipe • • • • • • •
Ingredients: 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F or 45°C) 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Instructions: 1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir & form soft dough. 3. Flour a clean surface and transfer the dough onto it. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour, but avoid adding too much as it can make the dough tough. 4. First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat all sides with oil. Cover the bowl with a damp kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until it doubles. 5. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air bubbles. 6. Divide and Shape: Divide the dough into desired portions. On a floured surface, shape each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a round disc. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough into your desired thickness 7. Final Rise (Optional): If you prefer a thicker, chewier crust, you can let the rolledout dough rest for an additional 20-30 minutes before adding toppings. 8. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to the highest setting, around 450°F-500°F. 9. Add Toppings and Bake: Add your favorite pizza toppings over the rolled-out dough. Transfer the pizza to a preheated pizza stone or a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are cooked.
