COMEDY MUSIC THEATRE LOCAL THEATRE FAMILY DANCE ENTERTAINMENT FILM

Dear Theatregoers up to the highlight of our season, the Easter The Epstein Theatre is proud to announce its new season of entertainment for January – April 2017. We have a wide variety of wonderful shows for the whole family to enjoy! We start the season with two shows guaranteed to help you shake off the winter blues. The self-described Aldi Bubble, David O’Doherty will entertain you with a night of story and song played on a vintage keyboard from 1986. Hot on David’s heels is The Northern Comedy Theatre with their adaptation of Michael Frayn’s hilarious farce, Noises Off, to cheer us up during a dreary January. The comedy line up continues throughout the season with the likes of the disgruntled, razor sharp news anchor, Jonathan Pie, in February, Richard Herring, the king of Edinburgh Fringe in March and to wrap up our season is the brilliant Sara Pascoe on 28th April with her show Animal. If music is more your thing, then you’re in luck as we really do have something for everyone. The Johnny Cash Roadshow at the start of March is the only Johnny Cash tribute to have the blessing of the great man’s estate and is renowned for being able to replicate the experience of being at an actual Cash show. We have another equally flawless tribute at the end of March, At Last – The Etta James Story, a moving look at the songs and life of an icon. If original music is more your bag, then we also have the ethereal and enchanting psychedelic folk musician Elfin Bow launching her debut album here on Saturday 18th March. There’s a brilliant line up to keep our little Epsteinies entertained with the likes of Superbooty, Monstersaurus and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and that’s just in February. In March, we are expecting a visit from a cheeky tea guzzling feline in The Tiger Who Came to Tea. This all leads

pantomime! After sweeping audiences away on a magic carpet ride of adventure and earning 5 star reviews with their Christmas show Aladdin, LHK Productions are back with the enchanting tale of Sleeping Beauty this Easter. Be sure to come on down and see what all the egg-citement is about! And as if this wasn’t enough, we have dozens of other shows lined up from all imaginable genres. Whether it’s the Now Festival in February encouraging young people to talk about mental health through art, or the red hot Dreamboys in March, we guarantee that we will have something to pique your interest. And last but certainly not least is a very exciting piece of news… The Epstein will be hosting its first ever full Shakespeare production this April, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, starring Liverpool’s own Daniel Taylor of Blood Brothers and Lennon Through a Glass Onion fame who will lead an incredibly talented and versatile cast in bringing Shakespeare’s funniest play to life. The team and I are confident we will be welcoming you back once more to this delightful theatre in the heart of Liverpool. We thank you for the ongoing support in regards to our restoration levy which has allowed us to keep improving the theatre to make your visit here all the more enjoyable. Be sure to check out Brian’s Bar which has received a stunning makeover whilst the Epstein as a whole just keeps going from strength to strength. Best wishes Rebekah Pichilingi & The Epstein Team

ELFIN BOW Sat March 18, Doors: 7pm, Starts: 8pm Adults: £15, Concessions: £12 Elfin Bow’s music has been described as a fairy tale experience for grown ups; pastoral psych-folk with an undercurrent of electronic ambience. A truly 21st Century folk artist she is a storyteller of the finest kind, with one foot rooted in tradition and the other venturing into the future. A songwriter, musician, artist and teacher from Liverpool, she is a jack-of-all-trades, and master of them all, and turned her back on a career in teaching to pursue her creative dreams. The result of which is a brave new album of original songs, brought together by a diverse team of musicians and producers, most notably Tom Kitching (fiddle, Pilgrims Way, Interloper), Jamie Francis (banjo, The Sam Kelly trio), Saydyko Fedorova (traditional Sakha nature vocalisations), Gary Lloyd (production mix and mastering) and Gary Edward Jones (co-producer with Elfin Bow.)

With imagery that blends her twin passions of music and art, Elfin Bow’s songs and stage presence exude colour, charisma and a gentle charm. Dreamy songs like ‘The First Red Leaf of Autumn’ and ‘Daffadilly Down,’ firmly place this album in the genre of pastoral, psych-folk, whilst the pulsing ‘Grimshaw and the Fingerclaw’ and whistful ‘Edith’s Song’ play out the story of ‘The Witch of Melling,’ a character inspired by Elfin’s childhood. ‘Holler in the Hollows’ is a beautiful, yet dark, single chord lament whilst ‘The Wisdom’ is quietly uplifting, urging us to find our own voice and learn to trust our own inner wisdom.

Sara’s vast amount of TV credits include: Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You? QI, Taskmaster, 8 out of 10 Cats and a load of other programmes that can’t be listed due to word count restrictions.
