Welcome Dear Theatregoers, The Epstein is proud to announce its new Season of entertainment for September - December 2016. We have a wide variety of wonderful offerings and treats for the whole family to enjoy! We start the season with one of our best line ups ever, the monstrously entertaining Dinosaur Zoo brings prehistoric beasts to life on stage in a way never seen before followed straight up by the triumphant return of Lennon Through a Glass Onion which celebrates the life, music and genius of John Lennon. Looking for a more traditional tribute act? Not to worry as we have some of the world’s best coming up in the next few months, Purple Rain a moving tribute that faithfully captures the on-stage magic of the late, great Prince closely followed by the world’s No.1 Fleetwood Mac tribute act Fleetwood Bac and this is all before October has even started! We keep the momentum up over the next three months with a wide variety of acts for the whole family to enjoy, from the hilarious stand-up veteran Jason Byrne to a set of all the classics from pop-rock pioneer Lloyd Cole, from the beloved children’s classic The Little Mermaid to the riotous new comedy drama Ruby Slippers we’re sure you’ll find something to grab your attention in the pages to come. And if you thought the season opened with a flourish then just wait until you see how it closes with Liver Birdsong, the Liverpool blitz musical receiving its world premiere in what is sure to be the first step on its journey to becoming a beloved classic. This of course leads us in to our favourite time of the year, Panto season! LHK productions have established a reputation for creating side splitting family pantos that offer a fresh and unique take on the panto classics and this year they’ve managed to outdo themselves yet again with Aladdin, the beloved story of a Chinese street urchin, sure to take you on a magic carpet ride of excitement. The team & I are confident we will be welcoming you back once more to this delightful theatre in the heart of Liverpool. We thank you for the ongoing support in regards to our restoration levy which has allowed us to keep improving the theatre to make your visit here all the more enjoyable. Be sure to check out Brian’s Bar which has received a stunning makeover whilst the Epstein as a whole just keeps going from strength to strength. Best wishes. His quirky-blue-collar image is often believed to be a major influence on the public persona of many British musicians, most notably Elvis Costello, Paul Weller and Joe Jackson. LIVER BIRDSONG: THE LIVERPOOL BLITZ MUSICAL
Tuesday 29th November – Saturday 3rd December 2016 Starts: 7.30pm 2.30pm Matinee Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday Tickets from £15.50 - £24.50 Four ‘Liver birds’, full of frolics and fun, leave work at the Kirkby Munitions Factory, for a night on the town in wartime Liverpool. It is November 28th, 1940. The events of that night will change their own lives, the life of the city and the impact of the War on Britain, forever. ‘Liver birds’ Maggs, Carla, Daisy Mae and Lil each follow a different path over the course of this night. Will they be able to overcome the Nazi bombing during the Blitz, as well as their own jealousies and fears? Everybody is touched by the battles and heroics that they are caught-up in. Each ‘Liver bird’ has a song to sing and every one is uniquely their own. In this new British musical, by Tony Bradley (book & lyrics) and Rebecca Myers (music & orchestration) - containing eighteen newly composed songs and several traditional classics - we remember Liverpool in Wartime, as well as the glamour-amidst-austerity of 1940. An incredibly talented cast of twelve professional Musical Theatre performers, directed by Jodie Marshall, with Alan Moore (Musical Director) and Natalie Dignam (Choreographer) provide a magical performance within a stunning new set. Sultry burlesque mixes with jazz and big band numbers, haunting ballads and rousing marches, the chants of Liverpool and the intense vocals of American soul. These musical styles fuse together with the events of that momentous night, so that no-one is left untouched as the miracle in their devastated city is uncovered. By the time the curtain falls, through this heart-warming musical, the audience will leave with a spring in their step, a tear in their eye, a smile on their face and, above all, hope in their heart.
