The Blues Band was formed in 1979, by ex Manfred Mann group members, Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness, originally to play a few pub gigs on Paul Jones’ nights off from his then full time career as an actor in London’s West end. The blues had always been their first love, indeed Manfred Mann for a short time backed Sonny Boy Williamson. Tom’s first band – The Roostersalso included a young Eric Clapton. RESTORATION LEVY As the Epstein Theatre we pride ourselves on our prestigious venue and constantly aim to enhance audience experience. We aim to deliver a high level of service and want to restore and improve Liverpool’s hidden gem of a theatre. As a non-funded organisation a restoration levy is now in place to enable us to carry out the continuous work needed on our 102 year old space. The charge of 50p per ticket, has been implemented to protect the theatre’s future. Orginally opened as Cranes Music Hall in 1913, later renamed Cranes Theatre before becoming the popular Neptune Theatre in 1967, open until 2005. After undergoing a £1million refurbishment in 2011 The Epstein Theatre, in honour of former Beatles Manager Brian Epstein, the theatre is now one of Liverpool’s favourite venue, right in the heart of the City Centre. 2013 saw the theatre celebrate its centenary birthday, as we look forward to the next 100 years we want to maintain the exceptional features you have come to love from the theatre in the sky!
