Our employees can quickly use this meter to check for early mastitis,” says Zach Meck. Brothers Zach and Jeremy started Meck Bros. Dairy near Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania in 2008. Today, they farm 700 acres, milk 170 cows, and raise their own heifers.
“Quarters giving a bad reading get our protocol of Udder Comfort,TM then we monitor them with the Mas-D-Tec. By catching things early, we have less need for antibiotics. Another proactive step is Udder Comfort on every fresh udder. “We put it on every fresh animal after each milking for several days after calving,” Jeremy says. “We see far less risk of infection.”
They use the Mas-D-Tec routinely to monitor fresh cows on Day 3 after calving and check milk conductivity at dry-off, indicating subclinical mastitis. Their SCC levels improved at 150,000. “It is so easy and convenient: Just strip a little milk in the cup and it lights up with the reading. No mess, no guess, just results,” Zach explains. “We also use it to check quarters on cows we are suspicious of.
